JACOB'S POV
The urgency of our kisses exceeds any measure of possible withdraw; there simply is no turning back. As I lay her down on the cool satin sheets and gaze into her eyes, I know that it will always and forever be this way. Longing for one another until we eventually find ourselves in these moments. An inferno of passion; burning wildly out of control.
Nessie reaches up, pressing her palm against my face. I lean into her touch, lovingly, allowing her to permeate my mind with her desires; expressing her yearning for my love.
"Yes, my queen," I whisper, turning my face towards her touch and kiss her delicate palm.
From beneath a canopy of satin sheets, I pleasure her. Entranced by her rhythmic panting and soft moans, I take my time and I am persistent. I draw out the experience as long as possible until I finally feel my lover quiver and quake beneath me. I remain persistent, indulging her until the wave of pleasure finally subsides and she is still before I join her above the blankets. I admire my work; her satisfied eyes, rosy cheeks and swollen lips. I take her hand in mine and kiss her knuckles.
"That was… everything," she grins, turning on her side to look at me, the sheets clinging to her naked form.
"Yeah?..." I smile. I'm out of breath, "good," I let go of her hand and look down to the floor where my jacket and t-shirt have been discarded in a pile; my phone resting on top. It's flashing. "I have a voicemail," I say and lean down, grabbing it. I input in the code and hold the device to my ear to make sure everything is okay with River.
Nessie's patience appears to be wearing thin because while I am waiting for the message to begin her hand wanders over and starts to unfasten my belt. I grin at her eagerness.
An automated message begins and informs me that the truck has been impounded. "Fuck," I grumble, getting out of bed.
"What?" Nessie asks, looking concerned.
"The truck was impounded," I roll my eyes, buckling my belt back up and then pull my t-shirt over my head.
"You're going? But we're not done yet," Nessie says, sitting up, holding the covers to her chest.
"It's fine, baby… we can just make tonight about you," I reply, shrugging my jacket on.
"Wow…" Nessie looks impressed, "you've become a generous lover."
"Are you saying I was selfish before?" I chuckle, looking up the address of the impound lot on my phone. I glance back up at Nessie's amused face.
"Not selfish… but you were never shy about looking out for your own best interests," she teases, "no matter what was going on in the background."
"Before all the responsibilities..." I reply, remembering the good ol' days before kids, failed businesses, pregnant one-night-stands and impounded vehicles in cities which I do not live in.
"You're coming back, right?" Nessie asks, her expression giving away her insecurity.
"Yes. Of course. But I have to get back home. River has no one else to take him to school tomorrow... But I'll come back so we can talk logistics," I reply and lean down, kissing her sweetly.
"Logistics?" she asks.
"How this is all going to work… seeing each other," I explain.
"Right… yeah, I'm kinda locked into this lease and I just accepted a new job here in Seattle," Nessie replies.
"Exactly," I sit on the foot of the bed, putting my shoes back on. I look back to Nessie as she shrinks down into the covers. Her eyes display hurt, "what's wrong?" I ask softly, concerned for my love. She was so happy just a moment ago.
Nessie looks away and for a second I don't think she is going to answer me, "Jacob… why'd you give her my ring?"
My stomach sinks, "how'd you-?"
"I saw her wearing it… the night at The Switchyard," she says, looking down, "do you love her?"
"What? No, of course not. No, Nessie. I only love you," I reply, "she found it and thought I got it for her… I kinda snapped at her beforehand so I didn't want to make a big deal out of it," I say with regret. I would have never let her have it if I had known that I would end up here, reuniting with Nessie.
"Oh…" Nessie says, softly, "what are you going to say to her? … about us?"
"I have no idea," I reply honestly, "I kind of made some promises to her that I can't keep. It's not really her that I'm scared of… it's Berta," I exhale. The thought of how this is going to go down is already stressing me out. Berta has a lot of influence over Brielle. I really think I can convince Brielle that we can raise this baby together without being together. Berta will never allow Brielle to believe that.
"Whose Berta?" Nessie asks.
I finish putting on my shoes and stand, looking at Nessie laying there wrapped in a satin sheet. I smile at her, "nevermind. I'll take care of it," I reply. I don't want to waste my last few moments with Nessie before I head back talking about the crazy mother of the girl I got pregnant.
"Do you want a ride to the impound lot?" Nessie asks.
I kneel down next to the bed and kiss her, "don't get up," I smile.
"Will you call me when you get back to La Push?" she asks, reaching out and running her hands through some stray hair that has fallen out of my ponytail.
"It'll be late. I'll text you," I reply and kiss her again.
"Don't say 'goodbye'," Nessie says, longingly.
"I won't" I mumble against her lips before I stand again and walk to the door, "love you," I smile at her from the doorway.
"I love you too," she says with a beautiful smile on her face.
As I descend the stairs I can't believe how today has ended. It started with me rage-driving to Seattle to kill Embry and has ended with me and Nessie getting bath together. Not just random sex. Not just impulsive kisses. Concrete declarations. She is mine. I am her's.
As I make it to the ground floor, Embry is sitting in the living room by himself. I sigh. His face looks awful. Goddamn, I really fucked him up.
"Hey," I walk towards him.
Embry immediately stands, taking a defensive step back.
"I came to apologize," I admit, "look… I made an assumption. I let a stupid rumour get in my head and turn me into a jealous idiot. I'm sorry."
"Yeah?" Embry still looks nervous.
"The first rule of res life, 'believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see'."
"Yeah… that's a good one," Embry chuckles but then inhales deeply as though gathering up courage, "look, man… This is going to eventually come out anyway… The reason we... uh... look, Nessie and I went to my place with the intention to… you know."
My jaw tightens, "...what?"
"I know. We were drunk and lonely and then we didn't… nothing happened because we knew it was a bad idea. I just thought you should know," he admits.
"Okay… fine," I pinch the bridge of my nose and look at his beaten and bruised face, "I think you've been punished enough… I don't like it but I'll forgive it."
"Really?" Embry looks shocked.
"I mean… it's not like I have to worry about you coming after Nessie now," I reply… Although it is strange that he made out with his imprint's mom… I remember Bella; history has a comical way of repeating itself… When Edward finds out about this, he is gonna get a huge laugh.
The front door opens and closes. Shit... It's Fox. I can't handle this, I need to go.
"What the fuck is this?" he says when he sees me, "why is our house crawling with wolves now?" he asks in an irritated gruff, "Nessie!" he shouts up the stairs, "...whole house smells like dog," he grumbles and pours some dark liquor into a whiskey glass. "Ness!" he shouts up the stairs again but she doesn't answer, "Emma!"
"What?" the small blonde hybrid comes in from a different room, holding a bag of ice in her hands. She glances over to me and then looks down at my bruised fists then looks back to Embry, "Oh, is this the knuckle-dragging neanderthal that did this to your face?" she asks.
"Emma, please. It's fine… it was a misunderstanding," Embry attempts to defuse the situation.
"A misunderstanding?" Emma laughs harshly looking back to me, "This is how you settle disputes? Are you emotionally stunted or is your frontal cortex just really, really tiny?"
Fox snorts and laughs and takes a sip of his whisky, watching Emma tear into me.
I bite my tongue to keep from lashing out to the hellspawn about how she nearly killed her brother and took his sight. I don't. Nessie would never forgive me. The kids don't even know each other exist.
"Nothing to say?" Emma crosses her arms. All 5'0" of her looking ready to attack.
"Keep her away from me," I warn Embry, I'm unsure if I'll be able to restrain myself.
Embry takes Emma but the arm and pulls her towards him.
Nessie hurries down the stairs in a robe, "what's going on?"
Fox looks Nessie up and down and then looks at me and then back to her, "Christ, this house is turning into a petting zoo."
"Oh no… really? Mom? This guy?" Emma's face crumples, obviously putting two and two together.
I open my mouth to call her hellspawn but Nessie jumps in.
"Not another word out of anyone," she warns and takes my hand, walking me to the door.
"Bye!" Emma yells after me, flashing her big smile; two sets of teeth on display. Just like a shark. Just like Fox.
I contain myself from growling.
"Okay!" Nessie warns her daughter as we get to the door, "well… that was tense."
"Nessie, I swear… if Polly Pocket even-"
"Polly Pocket?" Nessie makes a strange face and then laughs, "oh, I get it… cause she's so small. That's cute."
"Nessie!"
"Jacob, you're going to have to deal with whatever resentment you have towards Emma… I don't blame her for lashing out at you. You kinda broke her boyfriend's face," Nessie says, adjusting her robe.
"Fine," I grumble, "I'll let you know when I get home," I whisper and give Nessie one last kiss before retrieving the truck. It cost $190 to get it out of the lot. Wonderful.
I was about halfway back on my way to La Push when I had to pick up coffee. I needed it to make it the rest of the way but by the time I got home I was wired. It's really late so I'm not sure why all of the lights are still on. I smile to myself because I am so overcome with joy that Nessie and I are together again. Though, now, things have become rather complicated. I kill the engine and go inside.
"Hello?" I look around. Lights all on like I'm made of fucking money. Fuck, I sound like Billy Black. I shake my head and start turning off all the lights. I look in River's bedroom. He's not in bed. "River?" I call down the hallway.
"Yeah?" I hear my son's groggy voice.
"What are you doing in here?" I ask. He's sitting on the floor of the bathroom, leaning against the tub. He looks exhausted. Brielle is asleep on the bathroom floor with her head resting on some folded towels.
"She wanted to sleep here," River said, feeling around on the floor, locating Brielle's ankle.
"Okay. Go to bed, River. I've got this," I reply, helping him up and watch him stumble back to his room in an exhausted haze. Getting him up for school in a few hours is going to be hell.
"Hey," I whisper and kneel down next to her. She's still wearing her blue waitress uniform from her shift earlier today.
"I think I threw the baby up," Brielle groans.
"I don't think that's not how it works," I whisper and pull her up into my arms, carrying her to the bed. As soon as I put her down she is out again. I sit on the foot of the bed and take her shoes off for her.
Tomorrow. I'll talk to her tomorrow.
Next chapter on its way.
