Prompt from Guest: Can you do a belle x Shang story ?
….
Honestly, Belle should have seen this coming.
She couldn't have expected Adam to simply change overnight.
After the first time he raised his voice to her, fists clenched in rage, Belle was out of there, moving back to the small village.
And once again, the villagers all thought she was crazy for leaving a prince and a life in a castle.
The only consolation was that Gaston wasn't around to harass her.
The downside was that a small number of the villagers blamed her for the death of their most successful hunter.
It was during one of these… meetings, that she met Shang.
"Hey!"
The sudden shout had caught both her and the villagers' attention, as the foreign looking man stormed over to them, grabbing the villager who had been harassing her and practically throwing him to one side.
"What gives you the right to say such things!" The obvious solider bellowed, "It's clear no-one in this village is starving, and from I've heard, you should all be glad at the chance to be rid of this… Gaston!"
"This is a village affair! You're the one who has no right to- "
The man straightened up, one hand slowly moving to his sword as the villager mumbled something about 'needing to get home', before making a hasty retreat.
"That was- Thank you." Belle sighed in relief, "I don't know if I can ever thank you enough for that."
"I'll settle for having your name?"
Belle was stunned for a moment, before hearing a loud bang coming from her home.
"Dad!" Her Father had been remarkably loyal, coming back with her to the village despite having a good life back at the castle.
She ran back home as fast as she could, not noticing how the soldier reached out to try and stop her.
…..
Thankfully, it was only a small explosion and soon her Father was back to work, leaving Belle to her own devices in the main area of the home.
It was odd being back in this small room again, that small bookshelf lining the wall.
It all seemed so… mundane.
Shaking her head, Belle tried to focus on her writing again… until she heard a knocking at the door.
Peering through her Dad's invention, Belle smiled at the sight of the stranger who saved her earlier, slowly opening the door as he quickly bowed.
"My apologies for disturbing you so late." The man stated, "I just wanted make sure that you were alright."
Belle raised an eyebrow slightly…. Surely he didn't need to check right away. "You had better come in." She sighed, moving to one side as the man entered.
"I-I never got your name?"
Belle flushed in embarrassment, "I'm so sorry… my name is Belle."
"Belle." The soldier bowed, "I am General Li Shang."
"A pleasure to meet you General Shang."
The pair stared at each other for a few moments, before looking away, almost identical flushes on their cheeks.
"I'm actually surprised you haven't heard my name before." Belle stated, moving to put her book away, "What, with how quickly gossip spreads in this village."
"I try not to listen to gossip." He gently took her hand, forcing her to look him in the eyes, "May I… have the pleasure of dining with you some time?"
Belle thought about it for a few moments, before nodding.
What could go wrong?
…..
Over the next two weeks, the pair got closer, often spending the majority of their days together when Shang wasn't on duty.
It was a surprise this hadn't happened sooner.
"Belle!"
BANG BANG BANG
Belle flinched as a familiar voice called her name from outside, Adam pounding on her door as hard as he could.
Shang frowned, "Do you need me to- "
"- I'll deal with him." Belle sighed, "It sounds like Lumiere got the good wine out."
Slowly, she headed over to the door and opened it just a fraction, yelping as Adam forced his way inside, stopping at the sight of Shang sitting at the table.
"Who's he?!"
"Adam, this is General Shang." Belle moved to stand in between them, "Shang, this is- "
"- Prince Adam." Shang got to his feet and bowed, although it was plain to see that he wasn't happy about it, "It's an honour to- " He was cut off as a fist flew at his face, sending him crashing to the ground, breaking Belle's table in half and sending food everywhere.
"Adam!" Belle screamed, pulling the Prince away, "Shang, maybe you should- maybe you should leave."
"Belle- "
"- Please."
Shang stared at her for a few moments, before nodding slowly, allowing himself to be pushed out the door.
He needed to sort this problem out once and for all.
Once he was home, he started to pen out a letter.
…
Mulan was there in less than six months, knocking on Shang's door and forcing her way inside like they'd never been separated.
"I was surprised to get your letter." She frowned, "Especially after… last time."
Ah yes… last time.
Shang cleared his throat. "I need your help with something."
….
Belle was shocked to hear of Adam leaving the country… and without even a goodbye.
"Belle?"
She glanced over at Shang, giving him a reassuring smile.
"Are you alright?"
"… I will be."
