January 27

After breakfast this morning, I went outside to see if I could find the cat. It would come to the house sporadically and I would put out food for it. It had been a few days since I'd seen him though and I was starting to get concerned about its well-being.

Just when I started to think it wouldn't show up again today I heard a little meow and it appeared from around the corner.

"There you are!" I said excitedly. I bent down and held out my hand to him. He had come to trust me a lot since the first time I saw him. When he approached me I ran my hand across his head and back and he purred.

I noticed he was a bit thinner than he was the last time I had seen him. It made me worried. Clearly, he didn't have a family and he was such a little guy struggling to survive on his own. With all the big predators and demons out there, I was terrified that something awful would happen to him. I started to think that maybe I could convince Inuyasha to consider taking him in.

"There you are," Inuyasha said as he came outside. "So this is the reason you keep coming outside every morning," he said when he noticed the cat.

"Yes. I first saw him out here a few weeks ago. I've been giving him food."

Inuyasha bent down next to me and rubbed the cat's head. "He was out here while I was fixing the shed. Kept me company until I finished up."

"Inuyasha, he doesn't have a family," I said as I continued to scratch his ears. "He's just a kitten and he's out here all by himself. He could get hurt out here. Do you think we could…?"

"You want to keep him?"

I blushed and looked down at the cute little ball of black and white fur. "If you don't mind…"

Inuyasha watched for a moment as the cat crawled into his lap with its tail swishing back and forth. It started to purr again and a smile melted onto Inuyasha's face. "Fine, we can keep him."

"Yay! Thank you, Yasha!" I said, throwing my arms around him in a tight hug.

"What should we name him?"

"Hmm...Nico."

"Nico?"

"He looks like a Nico," I said as I rubbed under our new kitten's chin.

Inuyasha laughed a bit. "Nico it is then."

I picked Nico up and carried him into the house with Inuyasha close behind me. "You're going to love it here. We're going to take such good care of you."

Once we were inside, I made Nico some food while Inuyasha created a bed for him out of some blankets and an extra pillow and put it in our room.

We've spent practically the entire day playing with Nico. Now he's sitting here on my lap while I write. He's such a cutie. It's like we have a little family now.
