February 5
This morning I was at the shrine. A lot of people were there today. I greeted them as they came in the way I usually do and did the ritual just the way Kaede and I went over it.
The strangest thing happened in the middle of it. As I knelt at the front of the shrine an image flashed through my mind. It was so vivid, it was as if I was having a vision.
In it, I saw Inuyasha. His tetsusaiga was in his hands and he swung it back and forth at an enemy that I couldn't see. I couldn't tell where he was but he seemed to be in a dark room. All of a sudden, whatever enemy he was fighting hit him and he was thrown backward.
Just as quickly as it appeared, the vision was gone. I was frozen for a moment as I thought about what I had just seen. Something like this had never happened before. I had no idea if what I was seeing was real or if I was just imagining things. Either way, it was frightening.
"Kagome, are you okay?" Kaede whispered from next to me.
I snapped out of my thoughts and nodded. "Yes, sorry."
As if that weren't enough, I began to sense something else. This time it was a demonic aura that was starting to cloud over the shrine. Just as I was about to start questioning what was happening, someone screamed.
I turned around and found that a demon was hovering above the people in the shrine. It was black and snake-like with red eyes that looked ready to devour the souls of the villagers.
The commotion began and people started to panic. The demon went for Takero's wife and I thought fast. I stood up, raised my hand, and said one of the purification incantations that Anana had taught me.
The demon was enveloped by a bright light. It screamed until the demon began to dissolve and then the sound faded into nothingness.
People were still worried but the demonic aura was gone and everything was safe now.
"Calm down," Kaede said. She could sense that there was no more demonic aura as well. "The demon is gone. Relax."
People started to calm down and everything was normal until the ritual was over. Afterward I was at the door saying goodbye to people as they were leaving but I was only half paying attention. I was extremely distracted by the vision of Inuyasha.
"Kagome, that was incredible what you did back there," Ayana said to me as she and Takero walked by. "I don't know what would have happened to me if you hadn't thought so quickly. Thank you so much!"
"You're welcome, Ayana. I'm glad I could help."
"Take care, Kagome," Takero said. "We'll see you soon."
As I went home I continued to think about that vision. I didn't know what it was at first but I realized that it might have had to do with the demon. Maybe it was trying to distract me by putting images in my mind so it could come in and steal the souls of the people in the shrine. Whatever it was, I'm glad it passed quickly and I was able to jump in and save everyone.
