Peacemaker
"How hard is it to put these in the sink?" Cassie shook her head, collecting a plate and a mug from the kitchen table, walking over to the sink and dumping them in, "And to close the doors?" She asked herself, closing over the cupboard doors in the kitchen.
"That was daddy." Chase told her, sitting at the kitchen table having his dinner.
"I know it was, baby." Cassie nodded, clearing the kitchen up around her three year old son who sat watching her.
"Is daddy messy?" Chase asked.
"Very." Cassie nodded.
"Does it make you sad?" Chase asked.
"It makes mommy tired." Cassie told him, "How's dinner going down?" She asked him, brushing her hand over his hair whilst putting some groceries in the fridge.
"It's fine." Chase shrugged as Cassie nodded, "Does daddy work again?" He asked her.
"Yeah, now his shoulder is all better, and the doctor fixed it all, he can go to work again." Cassie nodded to him.
"Did he… did he get medicine?" Chase asked, trying to scoop up his alphabet spaghetti.
"He did. And he got his arm all strong again." Cassie nodded.
"Mommy, why aren't you having dinner?" Chase questioned.
"I'm not hungry just now." Cassie told him, "I'll have some later." She assured him with a smile as he nodded.
"Mommy." Chase said.
"What, baby?" Cassie asked.
"Can I have some ice-cream?" Chase asked her.
"If you finish all your dinner you can." Cassie nodded, "Veggies too." She made clear as Chase huffed a little.
"Why can't they taste better?" Chase asked her as Cassie laughed a little.
"They make you all healthy and strong." Cassie said, "If you wanna be big and strong like daddy one day, that's what you gotta eat." She nodded as Chase looked over at her, huffing a little before sticking his fork in the piece of broccoli.
Cassie carried on tidying the kitchen before Theo got home, making his way to the kitchen where he said hello to his wife and son.
"Hey, how are you?" Cassie asked him, giving him a quick kiss.
"Good. Feeling good to be back at work again, that's for sure." Theo nodded as Cassie smiled, "How are you?"
"I'm ok." Cassie smiled to him.
"I'm ok too." Chase interrupted them as they turned to him with a smile.
"That's good, buddy." Theo smiled, "What did mama make you for dinner?" He walked over.
"Spaghetti." Chase said, "And I had veggies too. I ate them quickly to get rid of them." He explained as Theo laughed a little.
"That's what I do too." Theo nodded as Chase smiled.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?" Cassie asked Theo who nodded, walking out of the kitchen with him and into the living room.
"What's up?" Theo asked her.
"So Jude is in town and her and Thea had a fight so I gotta go talk to Thea." Cassie said.
"Seriously? You realise that's not your problem, right?" Theo nodded to her.
"They kinda are my problem." Cassie rolled her eyes.
"It's not your job to resolve their issues, though." Theo said, "I say let them figure it out themselves."
"I would too but they're both really stubborn. I do think Thea is overreacting and she's took what Jude said to heart. She can do that sometimes." Cassie shook her head.
"I know, I'm familiar with your family." Theo nodded.
"Can you just get Chase in the bath and put him to bed whilst I go sort this shit out?" Cassie nodded to him.
"Yeah of course I can." Theo said, "I just… don't want you to feel like you're stuck in the middle. You're the little one and you're always fixing things for them."
"That's not true. They're there for me when I need them." Cassie said.
"Is this why you've been sort of out of it lately?" Theo asked as Cassie looked up at him.
"Uh… yeah, yeah it's been on my mind." Cassie nodded along, "I just don't want them to be fighting with each other at this lame Halloween party." She said as Theo nodded.
"Ok, well if you can go knock some sense into them then I won't stop you." Theo said.
"How was work? What did you get up to?" Cassie asked him, wrapping her arms around his neck as he placed his hands on her hips.
"Two call outs for a fire alarm." Theo raised his eyebrows.
"Exciting." Cassie laughed a little.
"Helped with a couple of warrant searches which made me realise how glad I was to be back." He nodded to her.
"Were you all happy?" She smiled as he nodded, "I'm glad you're back, and you're healthy." She said as he smiled.
"Me too." He nodded, "Are you going to your sister's just now?" He asked.
"Yeah." Cassie nodded, "When I come back can I have lots of hugs and kisses?" She frowned as he nodded.
"You don't even have to ask." He smiled, leaning down and kissing her softly as she kissed back.
Cassie headed to Thea's house, knocking on the door and waiting for her to let her in. Over the years she'd played peacemaker between her sisters several times so she wasn't unfamiliar with what she was up against.
"God, I've already had it from one sister tonight, I don't need it from the other." Thea opened up the door as Cassie smiled.
"Nice to see you too, T. How you doing?" Cassie nodded sarcastically, walking into the house as Thea rolled her eyes.
"Now, isn't really a great time, actually." Thea admitted.
"Thea, we gotta talk about this." Dominic walked downstairs, noticing Cassie was there, "Hey, Cassie." He nodded to her.
"Hi." Cassie smiled, "Sorry, I… I don't wanna interrupt but I would like to talk to you." Cassie pointed to Thea, "Now preferably."
"I sure am popular today." Thea nodded, turning to Dominic, "We can… talk later." She nodded to him as he just nodded along.
"I'll get the kids to bed." Dominic said as Thea nodded, watching him walk back upstairs.
"What's going on with you two?" Cassie asked, walking through to the kitchen with her.
"Oh… nothing." Thea shook her head, "Look, if you're here just to play peacemaker between me and Jude then-"
"That's exactly why I'm here." Cassie nodded, "Because you two are both incapable of just letting things go. You gotta drag it out. I mean… don't you get bored eventually?" She shook her head.
"How are you not mad about what she said? Don't make me feel like an idiot for… for being pissed off." Thea said.
"I'm not mad because she's my sister and I know she meant no harm." Cassie said, "If anything, she was just giving us some advice. Some help." Cassie shrugged, "That's nothing to get pissed off at."
"She was grilling us for not being there for dad. You know she was." Thea said.
"She wasn't. If that's what you took from what she said then maybe that's… maybe that's in your head, and that's how you feel." Cassie said.
"Oh, of course." Thea laughed a little, "It's all in my head." She nodded.
"It might be. Sometimes we interpret things differently from each other. But this is where I step in and tell you that what she said wasn't bad and was certainly nothing to be pissed with-"
"That's because you just don't care, Cassie. Things just go over your head." Thea shook her head.
"No, I just don't sit and analyse everything like you and Jude. I heard what she said, I understood where she was coming from, I moved on. Why can't you?" Cassie shook her head, "This is pointless. Your punishing her for nothing."
"Let me feel how I want to feel." Thea shook her head.
"No, not if you're being unreasonable. I'll call you out on it." Cassie said as Thea looked at her, "Now all three of us have had our fair share of fights. We get through them. Life is too short to be petty over ridiculous things." She shook her head, "So can you just let this go? So we can have fun this week? All three of us?" Cassie folded her arms as Thea looked across at her.
"Well… it's not like I would ever cause a scene." Thea said as Cassie raised a brow.
"Yes you would." Cassie shook her head with confusion.
"Well… not a big one." Thea corrected.
"No. You're not causing any scene. She's your little sister and she loves you. She'd never want to hurt you." Cassie reminded her as Thea looked over at her, "You should apologise."
"Me? I should apologise?" Thea questioned.
"Yes because she didn't do anything wrong and you took it to heart, ignored her messages and I assume you were mean to her when she came by earlier." Cassie said.
"And she was mean to me." Thea said.
"Then both of you can apologise. And just grow up. Jesus." Cassie shook her head with frustration as Thea looked over at her.
"And who made you the boss?" Thea scoffed as Cassie smiled a little.
"I've always been the boss." Cassie nodded, "Speak to her in the morning?" She looked at Thea who didn't say anything, "Thea?"
"Yes. Yes ok." Thea shook her head as Cassie smiled.
"She means well. You know she does." Cassie said as Thea sighed to herself.
"I guess maybe… maybe that's what I thought of myself." Thea nodded.
"What do you mean?" Cassie asked.
"Well she's always had such a good relationship with dad. For… all her life. Sometimes it makes you feel like you don't do enough. I don't know. It's stupid at my big age to think stuff like that but-"
"You know dad doesn't separate that aside, though." Cassie nodded, "Jude is there for him in ways that we aren't. That's true. But you're there for him in ways that Jude never could be, too." She said as Thea nodded.
"Yeah, I know. It's stupid." Thea said.
"It's not." Cassie understood as she smiled to Cassie, "So what's going on with you and Dominic? You can tell me." Cassie nodded as Thea looked across at her.
"I uh… I just found out I'm pregnant." Thea nodded as Cassie gasped a little, her mouth making an O shape.
"Shut up." Cassie raised her brows as Thea nodded, "Seriously?"
"Yeah." Thea nodded.
"Oh my God. That's great." Cassie smiled.
"Literally just found out. Like ten minutes before you came." Thea said.
"This is exciting. Oh, you're gonna be a mom of three." Cassie smiled as Thea nodded.
"Please that's terrifying." Thea laughed a little.
"I'm so happy for you." Cassie nodded, walking over and giving her sister a hug.
"Thanks. I'm still trying to process it. Wasn't exactly… planned." Thea admitted.
"It'll sink in." Cassie nodded.
"Yeah, just don't tell anyone yet until-"
"Of course, yeah." Cassie said, "It's just… it's nice to hear good things instead of… not so good." She nodded.
"Yeah, it is." Thea understood the reference, "Ok, you've came here, you got what you wanted, you can go now." Thea teased as Cassie smiled to her.
