Alex, Diana, and Amanda had one more full day left in the hospital. Time for two last rounds of eager visitors.

First up were Trevor and Maisie. The couple was particularly eager to come say hello.

Alex's heart skipped a beat when she saw them in her doorway. "Hi! Please come in!"

The Langans did, and greeted the new mothers. Both also set aside gifts they were carrying. Time would come for them. But not just yet.

"The babies are beautiful." said Trevor.

Olivia scooped on up one of her daughters as she walked over to him. "Trevor, this is Diana Pearl. Would you like to hold her?"

"I would love to." Trevor said sincerely.

Diana briefly made eye contact with her new friend before settling in for a snooze. Being held was her favorite thing.

Olivia picked up the second child and called out to the other Langan. "Maisie?"

"Yes?" the woman drew her gaze away from watching the other two.

"I would love for you to meet our sweet surprise." Olivia said kindly. "This is our Amanda Sapphire."

Maisie's heart fluttered when Amanda was in her arms. "What a precious name."

"Thank you." Olivia said happily. "Just this morning, our little lamb was giggling up a storm."

"Why?" the Langans asked in unison.

"Hell if we know." said the Cabots together.

Maisie cleared her throat. "It seems Diana likes napping. Look at her."

Pleased by Maisie's comforting hold, baby Amanda was cooing at them and trying, with all she had to follow the adults' conversation. It was almost like a game to her.

But then she sneezed.

Maisie was quick to swoop in the second the baby's face crinkled up in fright.

"Don't cry now." she told Amanda in a sing-song way. "It was a sneeze. Only a sneeze."

Maisie lovingly rocked Amanda Sapphire in her arms in a continuing effort to distract her.

"You're okay. All is well."

Trevor also leaned over to work on soothing the baby. "Just a sneeze. Don't worry, little friend."

Amanda had become so distracted by the Langans' tones that she had completely forgotten her fright in the first place. Now she was back to cooing and giggling.

Maisie noticed the Cabots both reacting in surprise and spoke to her husband. "Babe, I think our friends are learning new things about you."

Trevor playfully rolled his eyes. "Yes, you two: I promise I'm human. Totally not a pod person. I swear."

Alex arched an eyebrow. "But that's just what a pod person would say."

Olivia steered things in a different direction. "Where are Langans three and four? Are we ever going to meet them?"

"One day. We hope." Trevor chuckled. "Our kids are four and two now. They also love running everywhere. Making them sit still in a hospital would be torture."

"For them and us." added Maisie. "We're in this neck of the woods because we have a long list of errands to run. Visiting the Cabots definitely falls under 'play' instead of work. The kids are partying hard at Tuesday's house."

Alex politely asked, "Who is Tuesday?"

Trevor didn't miss a beat. "My twin sister. I'm five minutes older than she is."

"You're a twin?"

Maisie spoke cheerfully with Alex. "He is. Tuesday even fixed me up with him on a blind date. I'll share that story another time. Right now... I want to share something before we go on."

"Yes?" Alex returned.

"We recently found out that Eloise and Arjan are going to getting a sibling."

Alex's heart did a surprised cartwheel. "Oh, wow—that's amazing to hear!"

Maisie beamed. "Thanks! Trevor told Olivia when they were out, and Tuesday, Harper, and Sophia also know. Putting you on the short list was also on today's agenda. I'm actually due on the one-year anniversary of Sophia crossing your path."

"Wow." Alex echoed in a daze.

"And... We're going to name the little one Atticus Rose if it's a girl. For Harper and Sophia. We love them." Maisie nodded towards the presents they'd brought. "We have some treasures now for your sweet angels. I wanted to have some fun. Like Trev did."

Olivia held up the trio of parcels. Two were long, thing flat, slightly lumpy rectangles, and the other was a very smooth cube shape. Everything was wrapped in matching unicorn-themed paper.

"What do I open first?" the sergeant asked.

"Do the longer ones." Maisie responded. "It doesn't matter which."

Olivia sat with Alex on her bed and handed her one parcel.

They were unwrapped to reveal name puzzles. Diana. Amanda. Each letter sat in a flat baseboard, and painted in bright colors. Fat white pegs protruded from each letter, making them easy for small hands to maneuver. These gifts would be useful in a few years' time.

"Maisie," Alex told her friend. "These are perfect for the babies' nurseries. I love them. What thoughtful gifts."

Olivia nodded. "We'll keep them on display until the girls are old enough to use them."

"Excellent." Maisie pointed to the remaining parcel. "Open that one. Please."

Alex found the box to contain two swaddle blankets and headband bows. Each twin had her own blanket, differentiated by their name embroidered on in bright thread. But there was one last item that sent Alex's heart for an actual surprised loop.

Olivia understood and pressed a kiss to her wife's temple. "It's okay. Just breathe."

Alex did.

Both swaddle blankets and headbands were decorated in a rainbow pattern.

Maisie said with caution, "Is there something wrong?"

Alex shook her head and her tone was very soft. "Uh... These are my first two babies after a loss. Olivia and I now have two rainbows."

Maisie returned the twins to Alex. "We understand. Truly. Atticus is our sweet rainbow."

Alex gave Maisie a watery smile of gratitude.

Olivia spoke swiftly to Alex when it looked like she could cry. "How about we put Diana and Amanda in their new things?"

"Okay." Alex decided. "I like that idea."

She and Olivia deftly swaddled their daughter in their new blankets. Neither little one protested. They also seemed to like their headbands. Both let their mothers know by making happy sounds. Content was the word about the babies' moods just then.

Olivia leaned forward and kissed her wife. Alex held both of her new children. Everything about this moment was all so surreal.

And another chapter of their lives had been completed. The baby—or babies now—that Olivia had learned of during a miserable rainy night in October were finally here. Now her family was complete. At last.

Maisie snapped a picture of the moment. She'd send it to Olivia later on.

"I think," Maisie said as she and Trevor both rose to their feet. "That it's time for us to get moving. We are so happy that we got to stop by."

Trevor nodded. "Yes, and we are very pleased to be able to see your new miracles. Congratulations again."

Alex looked down to Diana and Amanda. "What do you think? Were you happy to meet your Uncle Trevor and Aunt Maisie? Both of them are excited that you two are in the world."

Diana began to snore. Amanda, too. Both were mesmerized by the coziness of their new blankets.

"The queens have spoken." joked Olivia. "Your blankets are a hit, Maisie."

"Outstanding. Little ones need comfort items. I'm very glad that Trevor and I could help in that department."

Maisie hugged her friends. Trevor did, too.

"Good-bye." Trevor told the Cabots. "We'll see you around."

They departed.

Olivia turned to Alex. "How are you?"

Alex answered around a happy sigh, "I'm on top of the world."

"So am I." Olivia gave her another kiss. "Absolutely nothing about our lives together have ever been close to normal, but… I wouldn't have it any other way."

"Same here. Our lives are perfect now."

And Olivia found herself agreeing.

Their lives weren't 'by the book,' but… this was their kind of perfect.

And they were more than happy to have it.
