March 30
The spring festival was today. It's a tradition every year to celebrate the start of spring. The village has been preparing for it for over a week.
I've really been looking forward to it. I love going to new places and events in this era. It makes me feel even more at home here.
This afternoon I put on the new kimono that Inuyasha got me. It was an absolutely gorgeous kimono with blue and yellow flowers and a red belt. I did my hair, pulling it into a half-up, half-down style, and pinned it back with a red flower clip. I also wore the bracelet Inuyasha got me for Christmas. When I looked in the mirror after getting ready, I loved the look and I was so excited for Inuyasha to see me like this.
He was in the main room waiting impatiently for me; he thinks I take way too long to get ready for things. But when he saw me he looked amazed.
"What do you think?" I asked.
"You look gorgeous, Kagome," he said. He came over and kissed me. "Ready to go?"
"Of course."
We could hear the music and commotion of the festival as soon as we left the house. When we got there it was already crowded with not only people from our village but from all over. Everything was beautifully decorated with bright colors and fresh flowers.
The first people we saw were Shippo and Rin who handed us rice balls.
"You've got to try these, you guys. They're so good!" Shippo said.
Sure enough, they were pretty good.
"These are delicious!" Inuyasha said. "Where did you get them? I want more."
We went over to get more and just as we did, we found Miroku and Sango who had their children in tow.
"Hey you guys," Miroku said.
"I love your kimono, Kagome," Sango said. "Is this the one Inuyasha got you?"
"It is. Isn't he sweet?" I said. I gave Inuyasha a hug and it made him blush.
"Well, he's certainly got good taste in clothes," Miroku laughed.
"Shut up, monk," Inuyasha replied.
We spent the afternoon with our friends eating snacks, playing games, and saying hello to the other people from the village. At one point I noticed Rin looking a little down. I went over and sat next to her.
"Hey Rin, you look a little sad. Aren't you having fun?"
"I am, Kagome," she replied, although she sounded down. "I guess I just wish Lord Sesshomaru had come."
I gave her a hug to make her feel better. "I understand. But you know how Sesshomaru is, he doesn't usually come to places with a lot of humans around. You'll see Sesshomaru soon and you two can have fun then. But don't let it get you down for now. How about you come play the corn hole game with me again?"
A smile touched her face. "Sure, let's go."
We went to play the game and soon the rest of our friends joined us. We took turns playing the game and while I was watching I spotted Akitoki Hojo.
"Hi Kagome!" he said when he came over to me. There was a girl with him; she had long black hair and freckles and wore a sky blue kimono.
"I didn't expect to see you again so soon," I said happily. "Who's your friend?"
"I'm Susaku, I go by Kagome though," she said. "Akitoki has told me a lot about you. It's nice to finally meet you in person."
"It's nice to meet you too," I said. So this was the Kagome that was on Hojo's family tree back in my era. The mystery was finally solved. "Do you want to play with us?"
"Sure!"
They joined in on the game and we all played a few rounds. Afterward, Inuyasha went with Shippo to get more rice balls and Susaku Kagome was talking with Sango leaving me with Akitoki.
"How did you two end up together?" I asked him.
"We've known each other for years," he replied. "My parents have been pushing me to date her for a while and we have on and off but...I guess my mind was always elsewhere."
"She seems like a really sweet girl," I said. "Do you like her, Akitoki?" I was curious to know the status of their relationship.
"I do," he replied. Then he blushed and said, "I mean, you're wonderful too, Kagome! I'd never think any less of you…"
I giggled. "It's okay. You're a good guy, Akitoki. I want you to be happy."
"You're the best, Kagome. I'm lucky to have you as a friend."
"Same here."
The day went on and we continued to enjoy the rest of the Festival. The band was playing some really good songs and a lot of people had gathered to dance. I turned to Inuyasha at the notice of it and he seemed to have the same idea as me.
"Wanna dance?" he asked.
"Of course, love."
We went over to the dance floor and jumped in. I thought of our first date last year where Inuyasha was so hesitant to dance. We danced together all the time since then. There didn't even need to be music, sometimes we'd just randomly dance around the house to have a good time.
We danced for a few songs and then went back over to our friends.
"You two are so cute!" Rin gushed.
"Since when do you dance?" Shippo said to Inuyasha.
"Shut up," Inuyasha said, crossing his arms. "I dance when I want to dance."
I laughed a bit. Inuyasha was stubborn but he wasn't fooling anyone. Everyone could tell that he loved to dance with me.
