Chapter One Hundred and Thirteen

**Meagan's Point of View**

I slowly stretched upon waking from my nap. After we finished reading stories with Sasha, Obi-Wan started playing a few games with her and I managed to watch for a few minutes before falling asleep. I pushed myself up and looked around the room, finding my husband sleeping. Smiling slightly, not wanting to disturb him, I started searching for Sasha.

I could not see her, but heard giggling coming from outside the room, followed by a voice that sounded like Ahsoka. Feeling relieved that she did not sound troubled and more like her normal self, lifted a weight from me, though I still only had an idea of what happened.

I turned back to my sleeping husband, really wanting to know everything but yet did not want to disturb him. While trying to decide what to do, a rather insistent jab made me realize of a growing need. Thankfully within the last hour or so, I was unhooked from everything as I was soon to be released and able to get out of bed. So I pushed back the covers and rose shakily to my feet and slowly made my way to the refresher in the back of the room.

Once I was done, I headed back to bed, knowing the Healers wanted me off my feet. While I was certainly not looking forward to being even more curtailed, I knew I needed to do as ordered so I could protect the child I carried. Holding back the sigh, I carefully climbed back into the bed and picked up one of the books Bant brought over earlier. I only read for a few minutes before I put it down. Not that the book was uninteresting but I really wanted to know exactly what happened but my husband had been rather reluctant in telling me. Trying to distract myself, I looked around the room and saw some food and drink sitting on a counter. I debated for a long moment before getting up, it wasn't that long of a trip.

"Meagan, what are you doing out of bed?" I was about halfway there, only a handful of steps really when I heard Obi-Wan.

"Getting something to eat." I could hear how defensive I sounded.

He was beside me in a moment, gently leading me back to bed. "Why did you not wake me if you needed something?"

"I didn't want to disturb your rest." I answered as he helped me back into bed.

He opened his mouth as to scold me but thought better of it and closed it again. He leaned down and gently kissed me before asking. "Now, what did you want?"

He brought us something to drink and eat and once I was done with my snack I decided I was no longer going to take no for an answer.

"Obi-Wan what happened yesterday?"

"I am not sure this is the best time or place to discuss that." He said, rather calmly as he took my plate and set it on the bedside table.

I crossed my arms against my chest and did my best to glare at him. "Obi-Wan you will tell me."

"Mind tricks only work on the weak minded." His lips twitched upwards as if he found this funny. But I did not.

"Why are you refusing to tell me?" I took a last drink of the glass of water before he took it and set it besides the plate. "Don't you think I deserve to know?"

He gave a long sigh before slipping an arm around me and tugged me gently to him. "Of course you do. However, I would rather you and the baby be completely out of danger before adding anything more to your stress."

"Obi-Wan, while I appreciate the thought, I would rather know." I reached across our bodies, taking his free hand in mine, lacing our fingers together. "Besides you should not have to carry the burden alone, we are in this together, we are stronger together."

He watched me for long moments before speaking. "When we get home I promise I will. Master Jessie said she would be by soon to make sure you are going to be okay to leave."

I eyed him for a moment, not quite sure if this was another tactic to put it off, but when the Healer came in several minutes later, I admitted he was right. Thankfully everything went well and I was able to go back to our quarters though I needed to stay off my feet as much as possible. "I will come check on you in a couple days and if you feel the slightest change, com us immediately."

After a few more instructions I was able to leave the Healer's wing, even if I was taking a hover chair home.

After Sasha was bathed and put to bed, Obi-Wan settled us into our room. "You are out of excuses Obi-Wan. If you are thinking I would forget, you can think again."

"Of course not." He said simply before sighing. "How are you feeling? Is the baby okay?"

"We are fine." I waved him off, glaring at him. "I won't be if you don't tell me what happened to my daughter."

He reached over and took my hand in his. "The bomb was a diversion, Anakin and I believe, for the real plan of kidnapping Sasha." He went onto explain how Sasha and two of her clan mates got separated and then shortly after the bomb went off, were accosted, Sasha fighting him off until help arrived. "He is in custody and will be questioned thoroughly soon."

"So this man is not the master mind?"

"I do not believe he is, I think he is only hired help. We will know more soon."

I stared at my husband for long moments while trying to process this latest threat to our daughter, despite the fact we would still be learning more about this. "Is the Sith behind this?"

He gave a long sigh before answering. "I think it will trace back to him whether we can prove that or not or if the person who executed this plan is aware of it or not."

After long moments of silence I asked. "What are we going to do about this?"

"We are not doing anything." Obi-Wan motioned between the two of us. "You are not doing anything but staying in this bed."

"You can't expect me to sit here and do nothing while my daughter's life is once again in danger." I protested vehemently.

"Yes I do." He looked extremely stern, but soon relaxed. "Meagan, I know this is going to be extremely difficult but you have to trust Anakin and I to protect Sasha, while you take care of this one." He gently laid a hand on my middle and somehow knowing Daddy was near, the baby kicked at his hand.

I knew he was right. "I know but this kid here has awful timing."

Obi-Wan gave me a rather twisted smile. "It is hardly at fault, especially when considering how you seduced me."

"Very funny."

Obi-Wan leaned over and kissed me gently. "It's getting late and you should get some rest."

"It's not that late." I protested as Obi-Wan pulled back the covers. "I still have plenty of questions."

I protested as he settled me into the bed, speaking quietly. "I know but many of which do not have answers yet and the others can wait to later. You need more rest than you think you need right now."

I once again started to protest but began yawning as Obi-Wan pulled the blankets up. His look was very closely feeling like an I told you so look.

"Good night sweetheart." He gently kissed me as he lowered the lights. "I'm going to meditate but will be back in shortly."

I really wanted to go after him as I watched him leave the room before the lights went off completely but soon found I could barely keep my eyes open any longer.

At some point during the night I jolted awake, my body absolutely shaking from Sasha's screams as the man dragged her from the Temple. I was gasping for breath as I felt the baby squirming anxiously within.

"Meagan, it was just a dream." I felt Obi-Wan gently put a hand on my back, rubbing it gently. "Take deep even breathes."

"He took our baby." I managed between gulping in air.

"Sasha is fine, she is asleep in her room." Obi-Wan's voice was calm and quiet. "It was just a dream. Just take a deep breath."

"She was screaming." I started sobbing now, the dream so real in my mind.

"Sasha is safe, nothing happened to her." He paused as I felt his fingers gently running through my hair.

I felt his words beginning to sink in, starting to make more sense but the tears were still combing down my face. He was sitting up next to me now and I turned, burrowing my head into his chest.

"Meagan, it's okay." Obi-Wan was holding me close now. "Sasha is safe." He was rocking me gently, I felt him reaching for me, feeling my emotions start to calm. "It's okay."

I didn't fight my husband, letting him use the Force to help calm me. It was some moments later when he spoke. "Feeling better?"

I nodded, still nestled against him.

He was rubbing my middle, the baby settling as well. "Do you want me to help you sleep?"

I shook my head. "I should be okay."

He settled us back into our bed, pulling the covers around us.

We laid there together quietly for some moments before I spoke. "Obi-Wan, I'm scared."

"I know." He kissed me gently. "So am I, but together we will get through this."

I felt his confidence despite the fear, seeping into me. I felt my body relax into his, the warmth and strength he radiated further calming me.

"Try to get some rest." He gently kissed me, a couple fingers gently soothing my curls.

I briefly thought of trying to discuss recent events but the pull of sleep was too much and felt myself nodding off.

"I love you." I felt him press a kiss to my temple, his mere presence comforting.

Somehow the following morning I was able to sleep in, the needs of my pregnant body finally jarring me awake. I was beginning to feel back to normal but still felt rather tired and I really didn't want to admit that my husband was right, that I did need a lot of rest. I settled back into bed, wondering where Obi-Wan was when the door slid open and he stepped into the room.

"Ah, you are awake." He greeted me with a smile. "How are you feeling?"

"Still tired but we are fine." I said, about to ask where Sasha was when he moved into the room, our daughter following him.

"Mummy." Sasha was about a step away from bounding onto the bed when Obi-Wan scooped her up.

"Gently, Sasha, remember be gentle." He told her setting her onto the bed.

As I cuddled her close, Obi-Wan spoke. "Let me get you some breakfast."

I was getting hungry and appreciated his care. "Thank you."

While he was gone, I pushed the curls off my daughter's face. "Are you doing okay this morning?"

Sasha nodded. "Sasha's okay. There were scary dreams but Daddy made them go away and he says I only have to go to my classes if I want to."

I ran a hand through her hair, combing gently through the curls I cursed her with. "Do you want to go?"

"Not today." She sounded a bit unsure but seemed to be doing alright considering everything.

"Then I am sure we can find something fun to do."

She pulled slightly away, looking confused. "But Daddy said you couldn't play right now."

Not wanting to contradict what my husband told Sasha, I took a moment to think about it. "Well yes, that is true but I think we can play some quiet games and we can work on your letters and numbers." That would at least keep her occupied for a part of the day. The other part Obi-Wan would have to figure out.

"Okay." I felt sure she was about to ask about a game when Obi-Wan came back in.

He set the tray on the table besides the bed where I could reach it. "Come on Sasha, let's let Mummy eat in peace and you need to get dressed and brush your teeth."

"Even if I'm not going to classes today?" She asked with a bit of a grin.

"Yes." He held out his hand. "Come on."

She allowed him to pull her off the bed but turned back at the door. "Then can we play shoots and lifts?"

"Yes we can." I told her before they left the room.

Thankfully I was able to eat my breakfast in peace before the two came back in. Through most of the morning we played some games and helped Sasha with her classwork. The day went as smooth as it could with everything going on. I took several naps throughout the day so I wasn't exactly sure how Obi-Wan managed to keep not only our daughter busy but quiet as well. Thankfully the following morning she went back to her clan, saying she wanted to see her friends but stated she would always keep her Master in sight. The healer stopped by and said the baby and I were doing alright but still wanted me to keep off my feet as much as possible, at least for another couple of days.

"It's for the best." Obi-Wan assured me after Master Jessie left. "I know it's frustrating."

"You are not stuck in bed." I glared at him.

"Why don't we watch a holomovie?" Obi-Wan asked obviously trying to distract me.

We found something interesting to watch as the only recorded ones we had were for children. At some point I took another long nap, only waking when the baby decided to start jumping on my internal organs. Thankfully the rest of the day passed peacefully enough and the dinner my husband brought home when he picked up Sasha was decent. She eagerly told us about her day, that her friends were okay and what else she learned. Despite the investigation beginning and my being off my feet, Sasha's routine had returned to normal. Thankfully quicker than I thought.

**Obi-Wan's Point of View**

The following morning, I got up with Sasha as Meagan was still sleeping. Not wanting to disturb my wife, we went through the normal morning routine with no problems except when I was putting on my daughter's shoes.

Sasha began scowling as I laced her shoes. "Daddy, you didn't sing the bunny sung."

"The what song?" I asked her, tying her other shoe.

"Mummy sings a song so I can learn to tie my shoes."

So that explained it. "I am sorry Sasha but daddy doesn't know the song and we are not going to wake your mother for it."

She scowled again but went to get her things when I asked, though grumbling the whole way, while I went to check on Meagan. She just woken up and assured me she was fine and could get her own breakfast. I agreed with the stipulation that she get off her feet as soon as she did so. I kissed her gently before taking Sasha and leaving our quarters.

We were nearly to the crèche when Anakin caught us.

"Uncle Anakin!" He scooped her up and held her close.

"How are you?" He asked her.

"Daddy didn't sing the bunny song." Sasha told him, obviously still not pleased with it.

Anakin glanced over the top of her head, shaking his own head with barely concealed laughter. "Shame on him."

"Anakin." I scolded him. "Did you come down here to make fun of me or is there another reason?"

"I thought you might want to listen to an interview." I at once grew interested.

"Let me drop her off and we can be on our way." I told him, motioning him toward the crèche.

We soon saw Sasha off with both of us getting hugs before heading toward the integration rooms.

"How's Meagan?" Anakin asked as soon as the crèche door closed behind Sasha.

"Restless at being off her feet but doing well as she can." I answered before asking him. "Any updates? I haven't talked to the Masters much recently."

"Unfortunately not much. They have to stabilize the structure in that area before anyone can spend any long periods of time there investigating. I think they have discovered some things but hopefully soon a full scale operation can start. So Masters Windu and Koon are going to go ahead and interview our kidnapper."

We arrived just as Master Windu settled him into the room and Anakin and I joined a couple other Masters in the observation room.

"Who hired you?" Master Windu asked calmly, starting off the questioning.

The man, not surprisingly, did not answer.

"Come now, all we need is a name. It's not you we will ultimately take down." Master Koon added, sounding almost conversational. "If you corroborate we can recommended a lighter sentence."

There was some long moments of silence before he finally spoke, the Jedi Masters giving the kidnapper time to think it through. "She never gave me a name."

"How did she hire you?" Was the next logical question Master Windu asked.

He shrugged lightly with a bit of a grin. "Where else but a bar? I heard someone was looking for help with a job to steal a kid from the Jedi Temple. We only spoke through messages, the person sounded female, but that of course really does not mean anything. She was always hooded so I can't tell you much more than that."

"Did she say she was working alone or did another name come up?" Asked Plo Koon.

"She implied she was working solo, mentioning she planned to sell the bounty to the highest bidder and I would get most of my pay from that."

I held back the growl at hearing my daughter being mentioned as a bounty but besides me Anakin growled nearly loudly.

"Why didn't she go after the youngling herself and use you as the diversion?" Windu asked next, trying to find out the most we could.

The man shrugged again, grinning as if he knew something we didn't. "She didn't tell me, just gave me access into the Temple. I took my credits and didn't ask any more questions."

The Masters looked back to us, looking grim. This must have been an inside job or connected to someone within.

"Do you happen to have any information on the bomb?"

"No idea. I was only told to take the Kenobi kid." His grin soon turned to a grimace. "I didn't think the brat would put up such a fight."

Even though he called Sasha a brat I could not help but grin at the fact my daughter could defend herself so adequately.

"Do you still have their contact information?"

He nodded. "When I did not show up, I am sure she would have gotten rid of the link. At least I would."

He was probably right as we exchanged glances but maybe it would be worth a shot.

Anakin and I soon left. I went home to find Meagan still doing fine and off her feet with Dede and Jema visiting with her. Knowing she was in good hands, I decided to take Anakin up on his offer and we soon met in an empty training room. I still wasn't quite sure if sparing would help but was soon drawn into the fight. We crossed back and forth across the room several times before our sabers locked together, sizzling against each other.

"That's all you got?" Anakin goaded me but he spoke it with a wide grin.

"Anakin." I grounded out over the hum of our weapons.

"What?" He said with another teasing grin before beginning his attack again.

I tried to protest, thinking I should be doing something else about the attack or taking care of my wife but Anakin's saber swung toward my face, drawing me back in. I soon began to realize what Anakin was doing, distracting me from what was going on, giving me a chance to focus on something else, to work through my emotions.

At one point Anakin sent my saber flying across the room. I drew in a deep breath, feeling the emotions I'd been pushing back come to the surface. "I could have lost them, all of them." My voice was barely above a whisper but my former Padawan still heard the words.

"But you didn't." Anakin pointed out as he disengaged his saber. "They are strong and we will protect them." He spoke confidently and as he continued I could feel it seeping into me. "You are not in this alone. Ahsoka and I will get to the bottom of this so you can take care of your family. We will get through this together."

It was some moments before I could speak again. "Thank you Anakin, I do not…"

He held up a hand, smiling. "You would do the same if it were Padme and I."

"Yes we would." I agreed, calling my lightsaber to my hand.

"Another round?" My friend asked with a grin.

I somehow managed to smile back before we took off again. Once we were done and leaving the room, I realized how much better I felt, more centered and ready to face whatever lie ahead.
