April 27
This evening we were at Miroku and Sango's house for dinner. As Sango was finishing up with the cooking, I was sitting with the girls because they wanted to show me their dolls. They had been obsessed with flowers lately. They had wrapped them all in flowers and were calling them flower princesses.
"And this one is the flower queen," Mieko said, holding up one to show me.
"Why is she the queen?" I asked.
"Because her flower is bigger," Midori explained.
"I see. And it's very beautiful too. I like her the best."
Then Shinichi wandered over to me with his teddy bear. "You want to show me your toys too?" I said. I pulled him into my lap and he giggled.
"That's Shinichi's favorite, Auntie Kagome," Mieko said.
"We put flowers on Shinichi's teddy but he took them off," Mieko said.
"That's okay. Shinichi's teddy bear can be an honorary flower princess."
"This one time he lost his teddy and he cried for a million years," Midori added.
"A million years? Wow, that's a long time. I'm glad he found it," I replied. I kissed Shinichi's forehead and tickled his stomach. He laughed a lot and it made me laugh too. He's such a cute baby.
"Dinner is ready, everyone," Sango said.
"Come on, little ones," I said. "Let's go get something good to eat."
That got them excited and the three of them ran over to their mom. I stood up and Inuyasha put his arm around me.
"Did you have fun?" he said with a smirk.
"Inuyasha likes watching you play with the kids," Miroku said to me. "He thinks it's hot."
"Oh really?" I glanced at Inuyasha who was looking away trying to hide how much he was blushing. Clearly, this was something he didn't intend for Miroku to tell me. But I thought the same about him playing with the kids.
We sat around the table for dinner. Maybe it was the pregnancy but I was starving. "This looks great, Sango. I'm so hungry."
Sango laughed a bit. "I'm sure. Enjoy."
We started to fill our plates.
"Have the cravings started yet, Kagome?" Miroku asked.
"Not quite," I replied.
"They're coming, though," Sango said.
"Sango really craved pickles when we had the girls. It was ridiculous," Miroku said.
"With Shinichi she really wanted oranges," Inuyasha added. "And then we were like 'where the hell are we supposed to find oranges in the middle of December?'"
Sango laughed a bit. "Sorry guys."
"When a pregnant woman is hungry, you've got to get her food or else," Miroku said.
Whether I had cravings or not, all I knew was that I was really hungry right now. I had finished my food so I reached over and took a piece of fish off Inuyasha's plate.
"Hey!"
"Just one," I said innocently. "Is that why you locked up the hiraikotsu?" I asked, returning back to the conversation.
"Partly," Miroku said. "I truly feared for my life sometimes."
"You're so dramatic, dear," Sango said, rolling her eyes.
"I don't know, Sango. He's not that far from the truth," Inuyasha said.
I couldn't resist. I took another piece of fish off of his plate again.
"Kagome!"
"Sorry."
"You try being eight months pregnant with twins and we'll see how you act," Sango said to him.
"The struggle of pregnancy is something we'll never truly understand," Miroku said. "Which is why we'll always be grateful to you women for giving us the most precious gifts in our lives."
Sango blushed a bit. "Aww, Miroku," she said before kissing him.
While they were being romantic, I took another piece of Inuyasha's fish to which he glared at me.
"That was the last one," I said knowing it most likely wasn't the last one.
After a moment Inuyasha sighed and pushed his food toward me. "You can have it."
"Yay!" I quickly started to dig in.
"Clearly I should have made more food," Sango said.
"Inuyasha won't be able to appreciate the precious gift until months from now when Kagome is less hungry," Miroku said with amusement.
After dinner, we were about to head home. Inuyasha had the girls in his arms and was trying to convince them to let him put them down.
"But we're gonna miss you, doggie uncle," Mieko said.
He kissed each of them. "I know. We'll be back soon."
"Come on girls," Miroku said, taking them into his arms. "It's almost time for your bath anyway."
"What are you going to name your baby?" Midori asked us.
"We don't know yet," I replied.
Then she turned to her mom and dad.
"Mommy, daddy, where do babies come from?"
A look of panic crossed their faces and they exchanged a look of desperation as neither of them knew how to explain this to a three-year-old.
"Um, well…"
Inuyasha and I laughed both wondering how they were ever going to explain this.
"Good luck with that," I said to them as we started to leave.
"Let us know how that conversation goes," Inuyasha added.
We left the house and started to head home. "It's a little bit early to be having the birds and the bees conversation," Inuyasha said, still amused by the situation our friends found themselves in.
"Knowing Miroku, he'll try to tell them. Then Sango will shut him up and come up with something more creative."
