June 4

Inuyasha left the village early this morning for a demon extermination.

Miroku was going to go with him but Shinichi had a bad allergic reaction to something last night and was sick so he didn't want to leave Sango to deal with it alone. I would have gone with him as well but my morning sickness was bad today and we decided it would be better if I stayed home to rest. Luckily, Inuyasha didn't need to go far and he assured me that he would be back by the evening.

By the time the evening came around, I was hanging out at Miroku and Sango's house. By now Shinichi had recovered and was less cranky. Me and Sango were eating a bowl of strawberries, Miroku was sitting next to her holding Shinichi, and the twins were playing.

As we were talking, I spotted Inuyasha in the distance. "He's back," I said excitedly. "Inuyasha!"

He glanced at us and we waved him over. However, he just continued to walk past the house and there was a scowl on his face.

"That was weird," Sango said. Miroku and I were also surprised. "What do you think is up with him?"

"Something probably happened while he was out," Miroku said.

"I'll go talk to him," I said, standing up.

I followed in the direction he went in and soon found him sitting in a tree. That angry look was still on his face and he looked deep in thought.

"Inuyasha?"

He looked down at me, then jumped out of the tree. He picked me up and then jumped back onto the tree branch for me to sit with him.

I kissed his cheek. "What's wrong?"

"Why is it that everywhere I go, there's always someone who hates me because I'm a half-demon?" The anger and frustration were evident in his voice. "They never look past it and see me for who I am. It's not fair."

I was surprised, I hadn't heard Inuyasha talk like this for a while. I held his hand comfortingly. "Did something happen while you were out?"

"On my way home these bastards went bat shit because they saw I was a half-demon and tried to kill me." He sighed. "I've always had to fight for my place in life. After all this time, I still haven't found one."

"Inuyasha, you do have a place in life. You have friends that care about you. And the people in this village gladly let you live here. You have a wife that loves you so much." I then took his hand and placed it on my stomach. "And soon you'll have a baby. Don't let any of those people get you down."

Inuyasha smiled and kissed my lips passionately. "You always know how to make me feel better, Kagome." He rubbed my stomach and I sighed at the warm, comforting effect it had on me. "I worry about our baby."

"Why?" I asked.

"It's just…I don't want it to have the same life I had. It's going to be less of a demon than I am but not fully human. I don't want it to be shunned the way I was."

I knew this was only one of his worries. I remembered our conversation a few weeks ago about how risky it is to give birth in this era. It touched my heart that Inuyasha cared and worried about me and the baby so much but I also wanted him to feel more at ease.

I gave him a tight hug. "It won't be."

"How do you know?" he said, hugging me back.

"I know because the baby has a father that will make sure it'll be protected and taken care of. Just like he takes care of his wife."

The smile that formed on his face warmed my heart. It truly makes me so happy when Inuyasha smiles. "You always know just what to say, Kagome."

He gave me a deep, passionate kiss and I leaned into him happily. "Never worry about a thing, Inuyasha. Our baby will be so loved by so many people. There is no way it would ever be alone in the world."

"You're right. I'm really looking forward to that." He circled his hand on my stomach as he spoke. "I'm going to do everything I can to make sure our baby is safe and loved."
