June 8

As I was out gathering herbs this afternoon, I caught a glimpse of Sesshomaru hovering over the village. He wasn't moving and he wasn't saying anything. Jaken wasn't even with him. He just seemed to be deep in thought.

I followed his gaze and then immediately realized he was watching Rin across the village. She was oblivious to the fact that he was there and he didn't give her any indication of his presence. It confirmed my suspicions of what I told Rin a couple of weeks ago.

I knew Rin was sad because she hadn't seen him since April and I felt like Sesshomaru should at least know how she felt so I grabbed my basket and went over to him.

"Sesshomaru," I called to him.

He glanced down at me and then drifted to the ground until he landed on his feet in front of me. "Yes, Kagome?"

"You should go visit Rin," I said. "She really misses you."

Sesshomaru actually looked pained. "I can't do that."

"I know you're still thinking about the whole kidnapping thing and you're worried about her. But she misses you so much."

"I can't continue to see her," Sesshomaru said. "I've already decided. I have too many enemies, I can't risk something like that happening again. Next time I might be too late. She needs to be away from me and live her life as a normal human."

I had never heard Sesshomaru sound so broken before and I felt terrible for him. Again, it reminded me of when Inuyasha was afraid for my safety and tried to convince me to leave.

"Sesshomaru, don't you think she deserves to have an explanation?"

Sesshomaru sighed. "If I go speak to her, it will just be that much harder for her. She'll eventually forget about me and move on."

"I hope you'll at least consider seeing her again. She was very upset the last time I spoke to her."

Sesshomaru hesitated for a moment. "I'll think about it, but I won't make any promises."

I guess I had to take what I could get. "I'm sure she would really appreciate it."

"You smell different, Kagome," he said after a moment's silence.

A smile touched my face. "I'm two months pregnant."

To my surprise, Sesshomaru smiled as well. "Congratulations. I look forward to meeting the baby."

We parted after that and I made my way home. I really hope Sesshomaru takes into consideration what I said about Rin. I don't want either of them to be so sad like this any longer.
