Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooooooo
He had a bot set up whose sole purpose was to track any news that mentioned Temperance Brennan or Seeley Booth. He didn't necessarily like reading about their successes, but ever since Brennan had evaded his trap and had not been arrested for the death of Ethan Sawyer he needed to know what she was up to.
His plan had been fool proof or so he had thought. He hadn't counted on the loyalty of Jack Hodgins towards his co-worker. It had been a mistake to kidnap Hodgins, he could admit that now. If he had left the man alone chances are Dr. Brennan would be in prison waiting to be tried for murder. It was a mistake he would not repeat.
Pitt Meadows had appeared in the same news item as Temperance Brennan and now Pelant's blood was running cold. The journalist had mentioned that the FBI had received a tip from an anonymous source about a possible murder in Pitt Meadows that had happened thirteen years ago. Since cold cases were the specialty of Dr. Brennan and her partner, Special Agent in Charge Seeley Booth, they had been called in to look into the situation. The reporter was standing several feet from a roped off area and in the distance the viewers could see that Dr. Brennan, Dr. Clark Edison and Dr. Camille Saroyan were actively digging in the ground while Dr. Jack Hodgins was sifting through the soil that was set aside where the pit was being dug.
Feeling sweat running down his back, Pelant knew that his plans were crumbling before his eyes. If they found Carole Morrisey's body then it was possible her murder might be traced back to him. It infuriated him that someone had called in a tip, but that left the big question as to who that might have been. One of Carole's relatives? They hadn't forgot about her disappearance so it was possible it was one of them or perhaps one of his classmates? He didn't know what was going on so he didn't know if this was about him or about Carole, but at this point it didn't matter. Her blood was on his hands and he had no intention of being arrested and tried for her murder. It was time to start his backup plan. All would not be lost if he didn't panic and he prided himself on his coolness under pressure.
Oooooooooooooooo
They had found Carole Morrisey's body and it was determined that she had been murdered. It appeared that she had been attacked from behind causing her to fall and hit her head on a rock. Her throat had been cut and she was hung upside down, gutted and bled like a deer. Whoever had killed her had treated her as if she were prey and not a human being.
Hodgins had swabbed every cut and break in the bones he could find and found traces of Japanese steel in the throat wound.
"A Japanese sword?" Clark found that bizarre since Carole had been killed in a rural area of Virginia.
While Clark and Hodgins worked on finding the possible murder weapon, Sweets decided to see if he could help Angela. She was still trying to convert Ethan Sawyers' message he had written on the wall of his room before he died. The psychologist wasn't a computer expert, but he was pretty good when it came to abnormal psychology and he felt that he understood Ethan. Not completely of course, but he thought Angela needed to understand how Ethan saw Pelant. Ethan had been a genius and a match for Pelant and that was why the serial killer had killed Ethan. Angela just needed that insight to connect with the writings of a man who suffered from delusions but a man who when he was lucid, was brilliant.
It didn't take Angela long after that to convert Ethan's symbols into a program and she was able to prove how the video recorded at the institute had been manipulated. She let Booth know, but he needed more than that. He wanted to arrest Pelant for murder and get him off the street as soon as possible. Manipulating the video was a crime, but it was insignificant compared to the brutal murders he had committed.
Studying Pelant's background, Hodgins discovered that one of Pelant's grandfathers had served in the Pacific during World War II and that it was possible that the soldier had brought back a souvenir in the form of a Japanese sword. With that in mind, Caroline got a warrant for Booth to search Pelant's grandfather's house and he found the sword hanging on the living room wall in plain sight.
Once the blade was tested, they knew they had the murder weapon that had killed Carol Morrisey. Determined not to waste time, Booth and Agent Harris drove over to Pelant's house to arrest him for murder but found the house unoccupied. The furniture was still there, but Pelant's clothes and other personal items were missing. "Damn it!" Furious, Booth stood in the living room and he knew that the serial killer had fled. "Somehow, he knew we found Carol Morrisey's bones and he knew we were on to him."
Harris had searched the house thoroughly and shouted for Booth to come to the back of the house. "The walk in closet is full of computer gear, television parts, radio parts. It's like a mini electronics store in here. I thought he wasn't supposed to have any computers or electronic equipment in this house?"
"The ban was a joke to him." Disgusted, Booth knew that they had been played all along. "It was all a damn joke . . . Get the techs down here, tell them to take everything back to the Hoover. I don't want one piece of this crap left behind. I want it all catalogued and once that's done, I plan to pay a visit to the company that was supposed to be monitoring this guy. I'm going to make sure they lose their license."
"Got it." Harris sighed. "I might get Angela to look at the stuff and see what she makes of it." Shaking his head, the agent knew that Pelant wasn't coming back to his house. "He didn't take this junk with him, so he thinks it's useless to us. Angela might surprise him."
Staring at the shelves of electronics, Booth knew that Pelant didn't need a computer when he could build one anytime he wanted one. "He didn't just put this stuff here in the last week. He's been accumulating this stuff for years. Right under the nose of the monitoring company."
Ooooooooooooooo
With Pelant on the run, Booth put out an APB for the serial killer's arrest. Working on a hunch, he checked to see if Pelant had a passport and if it had been used recently. Much to his disgust, it had.
Entering the Lab, Booth spied Brennan and Hodgins on the platform working on something. Once he was up on the platform, he discovered that they were boxing up Carole Morrisey's bones. "Pelant used a passport and left the country the day after we found Carole's grave. He knew what was coming and he left."
Disappointed, Brennan continued to box up Carole's remains. "He's been one step ahead of us from the beginning."
"Yeah." Booth sat down on the chair near the computer station. "I've contacted Interpol, but he's had time to disappear. He flew to France and from there he flew to Egypt. Our embassy has contacted the Egyptian National Police and they said they'll see what they can do, but I won't hold my breath. He might have left the country by now, who knows?"
Hodgins had listened to Booth's news and knew that Pelant was still a danger to them. "I may still keep the detective agency I hired for now. Who knows what that manic will do next . . . If he ever hurts Angela . . . I'll kill him. I'm telling you that right now."
"Hodgins, just . . . just do what you've been doing and be careful." There wasn't much they could do for now. "You can't live your life in fear."
"You weren't kidnapped." Angry, Hodgins picked up the now packed box of remains and carried it over to the stairs. "You don't know what it's like to be at the mercy of someone like Pelant."
Once the entomologist was gone, Booth stood up. "Yeah, I wouldn't know anything about it."
"Booth, Hodgins doesn't know you were a prisoner of war and that you were tortured." Brennan moved over to where her mate was standing. "I've never told him."
"Yeah." Booth pulled Brennan into his embrace. "How about a guy hug? I could use one of those right now."
Her arms around Booth, Brennan knew that Booth was having a rough time if he didn't mind a public display of affection. "He'll be back, Booth. He'll be back and when he does come back, we will capture him and he will be tried for murder."
"Yeah." His eyes closed, Booth felt a calmness wash over him. "Yeah, we will." Feeling a little better, he moved back and released his partner. "We found a bunch of electronic stuff at Pelant's house. Harris asked Angela to look it over. We want her to tell us what he had and what he could do with it . . . then I'm going after the monitoring company. They didn't do their job and I don't think Caroline will let the DOJ use them again for any Federal cases. Because of their failure to make sure Pelant was at home, Ezra Krane, Inger Johannsen and Ethan Sawyer were murdered. Someone needs to answer for that."
