July 13
I wasn't sure how long I was passed out at the time but when I woke up I found myself in a fairly nice room that seemed to be a part of some kind of palace. I tried to move forward but I realized that I was trapped within some kind of barrier and my bow and arrows had been taken.
"So you're finally awake." The voice was coming from the demon we fought who was standing in the doorway.
"What have you done with Inuyasha?!"
I noticed his large wings were compressed along his back while he walked towards me. He stopped a few feet in front of me. His arms were crossed and there was a hungry look in his eyes. The worst thing I noticed was that the gemstone was around his neck!
"I understand that you're that half-demons mate. You're also carrying his child."
I glared at him even more. "Let him go!"
"I'll let him go...when he dies."
Anger came over me and I tried to jump at him but I was stopped by the barrier. The demon laughed.
"Who are you?" I said. "What do you want with the gem?"
"My name is Fujikai, I'm the leader of a tribe of crow demons. I heard of the gem many years ago. At the time it was in possession of the great dog demon Lord Toga. But when I went to take it, he no longer had it and would not reveal to me where it was. I've been searching for many years until yesterday when I sensed an unmistakable aura. I hadn't felt that aura is so long, I knew it had to be the gem. When I saw that it was being handled by a mere half-demon and a human, I knew it was my chance."
"You're not worthy enough to use the gem!"
Fujikai laughed. "Not worthy? I am the most powerful demon in the land and no one can stop me!"
Sure enough, he was glowing with red energy. There was an incredibly strong demonic aura emanating from him. He was indeed extremely powerful.
"What are you going to do to us?"
"I used my miasma to knock you out and you and your mate have been here for three days. The half-demon must be awake now too. I like to take my time with my victims before I kill them, a slow and painful torture if you will. I think I'll kill him first so you can hear his screams of pain before you die."
As he started to make his way to the door, I was panicking. "No! Leave Inuyasha alone!"
"Too late." He left the room and closed the door behind him.
Once he was gone I started to cry. This situation seemed hopeless. I thought of our baby who would never get to see the world and it made me cry even harder. As the minutes wore on, the more I wished we had stayed home.
But then I started to pull myself together and realized I had to get out of here somehow. I noticed my arrows on a shelf across the room. If I could break this barrier on my own, I could get out of here and save Inuyasha.
I remembered what I was taught by Anana months ago about channeling my powers without an external object. I focused, trying to harness the pillars of spiritual energy asking them to give me their power. I could feel it pulsing around me and then shot it out.
The barrier collapsed and I was free but I fell to my knees afterward. That had used a lot of energy. I felt a sudden urge to sleep but I knew I couldn't. I forced myself to get up and ran across the room to grab my bow and arrows.
Then I took a deep breath and put my hand on the small bump in my stomach to comfort the baby. "You're okay," I said. "We're both okay. Now let's go find daddy."
I left the room and followed the strong demonic aura of Fujikai to lead me to my husband.
"You leave Kagome alone you bastard!" Inuyasha shouted from behind the door on my right. When I went in I saw that he was being kept in a similar barrier to the one I was in. Fujikai was in front of him holding a very frightening sword. Inuyasha's tetsusaiga was on a shelf near the door.
Fujikai chuckled. "You'll never be able to save that woman. She and your unborn child will die."
That seemed to make Inuyasha even angrier. He tried to break through the barrier but no matter how much he hit and kicked at it, he couldn't get through it. "You can have the fucking gem, I don't care! Just let Kagome go!"
"Not a chance!" Fujikai said.
He was poised to attack Inuyasha but not if I could help it. Silently I pulled out an arrow and shot it at the barrier. It was dissolved and Inuyasha was freed. But of course, Fujikai noticed what I did and when he turned around he was furious.
"You were supposed to stay locked up! I will destroy you!" He came for me but Inuyasha lunged at him, attacking him with his claws.
"Don't touch her!"
Fujikai was soon covered in blood and scratches until he managed to throw Inuyasha off him. I took advantage of the distraction and grabbed the tetsusaiga off the shelf. I tried to bring it to Inuyasha but Fujikai stood between us pointing his sword at me. "I'm going to stab you right in that pregnant stomach of yours!"
I thought fast and threw the tetsusaiga. "Inuyasha!"
Sure enough, he caught it and charged at Fujikai with his sword. "No one threatens my wife and gets away with it!"
He jumped in front of me and his sword collided with Fujikai's. "Stay behind me, baby! I'll protect you!"
The fight between the two went on but it became clear that with the gem, Fujikai was very powerful. So powerful that even Inuyasha was getting worn down from fighting him. He even split into two, three, and four parts to overwhelm him even more. I thought there had to be something I could do. If it went on much longer, Fujikai would win and kill both of us.
Even though there were four Fujikai's now, I knew which one was the real one because it contained the gem. When I caught a glimpse of the gem around Fujikai's neck, I noticed that instead of the bright red it had glowed when Bokuseno gave it to us, it was now tainted black. It was a long shot, but I thought if I could purify it, Fujikai wouldn't be able to use the gem anymore.
I aimed my arrow. They were moving so much, it was hard to aim at the gem. "Fujikai!" I risked shouting to get his attention.
When he saw me holding up my bow and arrow, all four parts of him looked at me furiously. "How dare you?!"
His moment of stillness was just what I needed. I shot the arrow and I hit my mark. The gem was immediately purified and was now glowing red again. It also seemed to separate from the chain Fujikai had it on and flew across the room.
"No!" the Fujikai's shouted.
"Inuyasha, get him!"
Each Fujikai made a grab for the gem, it being much more important to them than fighting Inuyasha but it was their fatal mistake. They couldn't escape Inuyasha's wind scar.
I ran over to my husband and jumped into his arms. "I'm so glad you're okay!" I exclaimed.
He pressed a deep kiss to my lips. "How did you know to purify the gem?"
I shrugged. "It was a hunch."
We went over to the gem and Inuyasha put it back in his robe. "Let's go, baby. I want to get rid of this damn gem. It's more trouble than it's worth."
We continued to travel for a bit longer and then decided to camp out in a cave for the night. As we were making fish over the fire, I noticed the look of anger on Inuyasha's face.
"Honey, don't let everything that happened with Fujikai get you down," I said. "The most important thing is that we made it out alive."
He sighed. "I just can't stop thinking about if things had gone differently. If he had gotten you, if I had been too late, I…"
I silenced him with a kiss. "I know. When he told me he was holding you hostage too and said he was going to kill you, I thought it was all over for us." I watched for a moment as the flames danced around our fish. "This wasn't supposed to be a dangerous trip."
"That damn Myoga," Inuyasha said in annoyance. "And my stupid father. Why did he want me to do this so badly? He should have taken care of it himself."
"I guess he thought you would be better equipped to handle it. That counts for something right?"
"Keh," was all he said.
I could tell there were other things bothering him, likely having to do with his father, but I decided not to press it.
"I don't care what my father would have thought," he said after a few minutes. "He was never there for me anyway, so why should I?"
"I'm sure he wanted to be."
"Yeah, well instead he had to go getting himself killed. People always go on about what an amazing guy he was and he was the 'great demon lord of the west' and expect me to lose my shit over it too. I don't care. I don't even know what he looked like. What he would have said or thought makes no difference to me."
I just put my arms around him in a warm hug. I could tell that what my husband needed right now was comfort more than advice. "I understand."
He leaned into me and kissed the top of my head. "Let's just forget about it. I just want to get rid of this damn gem and get home so we can focus on the baby."
