Harry Does Different CCCDIII

More Voldemort Less Pureblood

"Did you know…" the question in Harry's mind didn't quite form. He had a difficult time squaring the almost cute boy with the monster he had been fighting ever since his return to the Wizarding World.

The Leader of the Light completed the thought grimly "That I had met one of the most evil wizards of our history? No. That first meeting, Tom displayed some concerning behavior, but I thought a change of environment would- - -"

"It only made him worse." Harry interrupted.

Dumbledore continued his thought "I had high hopes for Tom. Having never had children, I thought him a son."

"You know what's funny about this, Professor?" the teen's face showed little humor "The great leader of the Pureblood cause may as well have been Muggleborn. Again. Like me."

The school headmaster mask dropped into place "No more will I show you tonight, Harry. Curfew is approaching and I would not want to see you in detention."

"You almost didn't make it back last night, mate." Said Ron as soon as their friend arrived at breakfast "And you were harder to wake up than even Ginny."

From a redhead not too far away came a shout of "Git! My sleeping habits aren't for the public!"

"I'm interested, cutie." Dean Thomas flirted outrageously.

It took some effort for Harry to ignore that, even with what was on his mind. He spoke quietly with his two closest friends "Dumbledore showed me his early memories of Voldemort as a kid last night. It's funny but he was a cute little boy, but creepy too. Hard to think of them as the same person."

"I don't think anyone is born evil, Harry." Said Hermione after a moment's consideration "I mean, they say even Darth Vader was nice once."

Ron gave a confused grunt as his friends shared a laugh "Who?"

"Star Wars? Star Trek? Starblazers? Dune?" Hermione queried with mounting disappointment, and finally shrugged it off "Ronald, when we have time I will explain science fiction. Moving on, did you learn anything really useful?"

Harry laughed, even if he didn't know all she was talking about "I think so. At least one thing last night. Did you know he isn't even a Pureblood? Don't know what good it does."

"NO way! That's his biggest thing, mate. Magic for magicals only. Kick out the… well… I don't use that word. But you know what they say." Ron rambled a bit.

Hermione waved off the apology kindly but then "That just CANT be right Harry. Can you imagine someone like Malfoy, with his attitude- - -"

"Maybe we should just ask him. I mean, I bet he knows every Pureblood family in the country. Just walk up and ask what he knows about the Riddles." He was half talking to his friends. Meanwhile, none of them noticed Ginny shiver uncontrollably. "In fact, I'll be right back."

The-Boy-Who-Lived entering Slytherin territory turned some heads. By the time he stopped at his goal, his nemesis was quite prepared for a confrontation. Glaring his worst and palming his wand Draco demanded "You want something Potter?"

"Nothing too important. Really." Harry gave no indication he was in any way afraid of being surrounded "Bit of a society question, trivia if you will. And any of you can answer, I guess. What do you know about the Riddle family?"

The Slytherins all shook their heads. Even the most knowledgeable and thoughtful of the Purebloods. Draco answered with his usual tact "Mudbloods don't interest us, Potter." He spat the last word.

"None of you?" he looked around, noting all the faces from coldly uninterested to a few obviously curious "Well, thanks." There was no confrontation of interest to people, so only a few noted his travel to the Ravenclaw table, where he had a lengthy discussion with Luna Lovegood.

A week later an edition of The Quibbler appeared at Hogwarts. About a dozen copies or so. The headline fairly smote the reader's eyes.

Not being a subscriber, the Headmaster leaned over and requested "Minerva, I wonder if you could tell me what this story has to say."

"How odd, Albus" replied the Deputy "I can read all the story, naturally, but I find myself quite unable to relate any of the details."

Filius looked out from over the page and chortled "His classmates always called him Odd, but never after they encountered his spellwork. Nicely done young Lovegood. Remarkable reading."
