July 20
This afternoon I was sitting by the river with Shippo and Miroku. They were having a contest to see how far they could skip rocks into the water. I wasn't very good at skipping rocks so I was the designated judge.
On the next round, Shippo's skipped three times and Miroku's skipped four. It was the third time Miroku had won.
"Aw come on, Kagome. That one definitely skipped three times. It was a tie," Shippo complained.
"Nope, it was a small one but it was definitely a skip," I replied.
"My best friend Kagome is always on my side," Miroku said triumphantly.
"I thought I was your best friend, Kagome," Shippo said with a pout.
I giggled. "You are. Can't I have more than one best friend?"
We heard voices behind us and when we turned around, there were three wolf demons coming towards us.
"Hey, guys!" Hakakku called to us.
"Hi!" I said to them.
"Long time no see," Miroku said to them.
"Things have been a little hectic back home but we figured it was about time we came by to see how everyone is doing," Koga said as they approached us.
I stood up and gave him a hug. "I'm glad you're here."
"Kagome…" Koga said, obviously surprised to see me like this. Four months in, it's pretty obvious that I'm pregnant.
"Surprise, surprise," I said happily.
"Wow, you're pregnant!" Ginta exclaimed.
"How far along are you?"
"About four months," I replied.
"That's so awesome," Ginta said, giving me a hug.
"Congratulations!" Hakakku added.
"Thanks, you guys."
"I don't believe this," Koga said.
"What?" I said in surprise at his tone.
"I'm gone for a few months and the mutt has already knocked you up!"
"Uh oh," Shippo said to Miroku.
"This is not going to go well," Miroku replied.
"Koga and his big mouth," Ginta said as he and Hakakku facepalmed.
"It was bound to happen sooner or later…" I said, my voice trembling.
"I just can't believe you're about to have a baby with that dog."
I was really surprised to hear Koga sound so mad. I sniffed as tears started to form in my eyes. Everyone else had been really excited about the baby, I guess I had hoped he would be too. "I-I thought you would have been happy too, Koga…" I put my face in my hands and started to cry.
Koga wasn't expecting me to start crying and he started to panic. "Kagome...Kagome, don't cry. I didn't mean it that way…"
He was cut off by Inuyasha coming up behind him and smacking him in the back of the head. "What the hell are you doing here and why are you making Kagome cry?!"
"I didn't mean to make Kagome cry! It was an accident!"
"This just went from bad to worse," Shippo said.
"You've got that right," Miroku said, nodding in agreement.
"Definitely," Ginta and Hakakku agreed.
Then Inuyasha punched Koga in the face and Koga hit him back and they started going back and forth.
"Who the hell do you think you are coming around here making Kagome upset?!" Inuyasha said as he and Koga fought.
"You didn't even give me a chance to explain myself to her! What kind of husband are you?!"
"The type of husband that doesn't let mangy wolves like you get away with making her cry! All of that stress isn't good for her or the baby. I'll fucking kill you, you…!"
All of their fighting wasn't making me feel any better. Ginta and Hakakku were trying to comfort me but I was still very upset. I was upset that Koga was mad about the pregnancy. I also felt bad that Inuyasha was now beating him up. And I felt bad that Inuyasha had to exert energy to beat up Koga for me. I was starting to feel like all of this was my fault.
"Inuyasha, stop!" I cried.
He was about to hit Koga again, but immediately stopped when he heard my voice. Then he came over to me and pulled me into his embrace while I cried into his chest. "Shh, don't cry, love. I didn't mean to make you upset."
"It's okay," I said, letting him wipe my tears away.
"You're such an idiot for making your wife cry even more," Koga said.
Inuyasha glared at him. "I swear I will fucking end you if you don't shut up!" He turned back to me with a softened expression and placed a kiss on my lips. "Are you okay, sweetheart? Do you want to go home and rest?"
I nodded, figuring less excitement would make me feel better. He picked me up bridal style and dashed off to our house.
Once we were there he put me on the couch and I dried the rest of my tears. I felt better, so much so that I wondered to myself why I had cried so much in the first place. Those stupid mood swings must have been part of it.
Inuyasha hugged me and kissed me. "Are you okay now?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you for taking care of me."
"You're welcome. I just can't believe that stupid wolf made you cry. I'd kill him if it weren't going to make you even more upset."
"It's fine, Yasha. It's not even that big of a deal."
"What did he even say to you?"
I knew if I told him exactly what Koga said it would make him angrier so I gave him an abridged version. "He saw that I'm pregnant and just seemed a little unhappy about it."
"Keh, jealous bastard."
"I feel bad. Maybe I should go talk to him."
He stopped me before I could get up. "Hold on, love. That's just going to make you more upset. You can go talk to him later, or he might even come here. Just rest for a while."
I realized he was right. The stress really isn't good for the baby. So I leaned into him and allowed myself to relax as he held me close to him.
