Chapter 157: Unknown Factor

In the chopper in his usual seat returning home from Africa after finally completing Operation Cursed Legacy, Big Boss was looking out of his side door and at the massive base of Outer Heaven. Now with a total of twenty seven platforms they were now a force to be reckoned with, however Big Boss had something else on his mind.

After Faultoning the last container full of Code Talker's research Big Boss encountered an attack chopper which belonged to Cipher, at that moment Big Boss was ready to go toe to toe with it but in one strange act the chopper turned and left the area of operations instead of attacking to collect what Cipher was after and they allowed Big Boss to take the container.

Big Boss knew it wasnt some accident or even a possibility of Big Boss being a threat to Cipher, there was something going on and he knew this wasnt the last time he would encounter Cipher.

After a few moments Big Boss's chopper finally dropped off the last container to the Research Platform and then reached the helipad of the main Command Platform, as he slowly descended to the helipad he suddenly looked out of his side door to see Code Talker on his own and he could see he was mumbling to himself and it got Big Boss's attention as he never saw the old man do anything like this before.

Slowly stepping off the chopper Big Boss cautiously made his way over to the old man and could hear him whisper some kind of native language, the flesh on the hand of Code Talker faded from flesh to skin over and over again and the legendary soldier could see black markings around the old man's face.

Big Boss finally approached Code Talker and he finally understood what the old dine was saying.

"The number one leg joint is loose...hmph, Borcscht again today." Code Talker's body jolted which alerted Big Boss abit as he came around to him and he just saw the old man look to the distance.

"Secret meeting between the containers, in broad daylight...the Ocelot's aim is off today" Code Talker continued to speak in Navajo and thats when Big Boss placed his hand on his shoulder snapping out of his trance.

"Hey.." Big Boss called out and Code Talker looked up to him only to soon look back towards the second platform of the Command Center. "Eyes on Kazuhira".

Big Boss could only frown as he took his hand off the Old Dine. "What are you talking about?".

"A message from the parasites..." Code Talker looked back up to Big Boss and then turned his wheelchair and slowly went about his buisness leaving a confused Big Boss all one on the helipad.

"Secret meeting between the containers..in broad daylight?" Big Boss whispered to himself and looked to the second platform Code Talker was looking at and thats when he saw alot of containers there. "Eyes on Kazuhira?...". All he could do was look on now with alot more questions than what he originally had.

-Main Combat Platform, Training Center-

Standing in from of twenty five recruits all spread out in six rows was Drill Sargent Wolf, the recruits were wearing black training trousers and white vests and they were standing to attention with sweat falling off their bodies and Wolf was just looking at them.

"How you guys doing?" Wolf questioned the recruits but none of them said a word as they were now intimidated by the man training them and it was only their second day and it felt like they went to hell and back.

"Hands up and be honest, who is sore?" Wolf asked again looking at the recruits and some raised their hands and he slowly nodded.

"Yeah?" Wolf stated as he slowly walked down the rows looking at the men and women in front of him. "Been hard so far..".

As Wolf slowly made his way to one end he tagged one big guy right at the back. "Big man at the back, training hard enough for you?".

"Yes Sir" The recruit responded professionally.

"You hurt?" Wolf asked as he came to a stop never taking his eyes off him.

The Recruit took a deep breath. "A little Sir".

"Big fucking deal" Wolf calmly stated but his voice was heavy on the shoulders of the recruits.

"Everyone in the center of the mats behind me, pair up" Wolf ordered turning around to the mats and the recruits wasted no time pairing up waiting for the next order from their Drill Sargent.

After a few moments Wolf looked to one pair of recruits and pointed to one of them. "Counter your partner's attack and throw him then switch".

Wolf and the rest of the recruits watched on as the two chosen soldiers displayed what they learnt, one recruit went for a swing and his partner blocked the attack by grabbing the man's wrist then quickly turning and launching him over his shoulder and to the ground.

All Wolf did was slowly nod as he stood there with his arms crossed as they switched and the recruit that was defending now attacked and the new defended blocked by knocking his arm away followed by a bear hug and throwing him to the ground hard, Wolf was not impressed as they stood up.

"You bear hug him like that whats gonna happen?" Wolf questioned the defender and the recruit had no answer so Wolf looked to the man that the defender threw. "What was the mistake?".

"My arms were free, I could have pulled out a knife as he lifted me" The recruit stated and Wolf nodded then looked to the defender. "Never leave your enemy the chance to attack, if he had a knife as you threw him like that he could have killed you. Never give your enemy a chance to attack". His voice was stern and the recruit nodded.

At that point Wolf turned to a fellow Drill Instructor and waved him over as he looked back to the recruits. "This is how you should do it".

The fellow instructor didn't need to be told when to attack so he went for Wolf and the recruits watched as Wolf blocked his fellow instructor's attack followed by a bear hug but unlike how the recruit did it they saw Wolf pin his attacker's arm by his during the bear hug and then launched and threw him over his shoulder and to the ground hard with lightining speed and the sound of a body slamming to the ground echoed on the area, Wolf slowly stood up and looked to the recruits.

"Restrict your enemies movements and end it fast, never give your enemy a chance to think either" Wolf advised and looked to the recruits one by one as they just looked at him waiting for the order.

"Before you start I want to get to know a few of you" Wolf stated and his eyes went to one recruit he met the other day and it was the short woman. "You, what made you want to be a mercenary?".

"I got fed up of government law getting in the way and stopping us from doing whats right, so I left my country behind" The woman revealed.

"You think it was right leaving your country behind?" Wolf questioned. "The friends you had that possibly died for the same country? Would they think you were doing the right thing?".

The woman had now answer and she just lowered her head and Wolf looked to a young man to his left. "What about you?".

"A chance to see the world and like Panther said, to do whats right when Governments are too afraid to do it...plus I want to make a name for myself" The recruit revealed and Wolf was not impressed with the last part.

"Make a name for yourself? the fame, the glory..the chance of getting laid?" Wolf simply stated and if there was one thing he hated was soldiers just looking for fame and not being part of a band of brothers, however the man in front of him had potential so he decided to let him off.

"Well the way I see it is..." Wolf spoke again crossing his arms looking to all the recruits. "In this business there is no fame, no glory no right or wrong. Tomorrow we could be heroes, the next day terrorists, its just a matter of perspective".

"Every day we do things that you would never see in government armies, the wars we rage and the decisions we make hit us all as a unit and we carry the burdens of what we do with us until the day we die".

Wolf then looked down to his red cybernetic arm taking a deep breath. "I'm gonna tell you some home truths..." He then slowly looked up to the men and women in front of him.

"Our time here is short, they are fast and there is no such thing as the ultimate soldier. I'm not the nastiest soldier in this Unit because there is actually someone tougher than me and thats your Commander Big Boss, the way I see it no matter how tough and fast you are there will always be someone better than you".

"Years ago when I was climbing the ranks I thought I was gonna be the best, but last year I lost something more then my left arm. Because I underestimated an enemy who was better than me at the time...it was at that moment I lost someone I loved, that was a mistake I refuse to make again".

"Never underestimate whats out there, you gotta respect everything that you face even if its an enemy or even this Mercenary Group you have joined. I respect this group, I love this group and I put my life on the line everyday and I will glady do it until I can do it no longer" Wolf's voice now grew heavy as his loyalty to Outer Heaven spoke volume amoung the recruits.

Soon Wolf slowly walked to the center of the mats and slowly looked around to the recruits and they just continued to watch and listen to his every word.

"You guys have it easy right now, you have to earn respect in this world and its not given to you, you earn it".

"What ever you did before coming here, your records none of that means shit to us, not to me and not to the man you fight for. You pay your dues and as of right now what I have taught you in these past few days has now put you a mile ahead of where you should normally be".

"Each of you are fighting for the same world we are, a world where soldiers can be free" Wolf then slowly stopped looking at a random recruit.

"Do not fuck it up" Wolf's voice became stern as he then looked to another recruit. "Do not throw it away because if you do...you piss on every single man and woman who has come before you fighting for that world".

Wolf then looked to another few recruits. "Every single soldier that has paid their dues, every single person that has busted their ass, every single person who has given their life for what all of us has been fighting for you piss on them.".

He then looked to one more recruit. "Every single person like Flaming Buffalo who was the one woman I lost, the one that was caring my child. A child that never got a chance at life..you piss on them".

The statement shook a few recruits as some looked to each other but soon stood to attention again as Wolf finally moved from the center of the mats looking at all the recruits. "You either fight for a world where soldiers can be free or you dont".

"And if you dont want it, dont waste our fucking time" Wolf firmly stated and suddenly his idroid went off.

"Howling Wolf, please report to Big Boss" The Idriod stated and Wolf continued to look at the men and women. "After today, no excuses. If you dont shape up, I'll give you a lesson you wont forget".

He then looked to his fellow instructor and nodded and thats when he turned and left leaving the other instructor to take over as he went to report to Big Boss.

-Command Platform, Big Boss's Office-

Sitting in his chair with a cigar in on hand, Big Boss was looking down at the report he filed over Operation Cursed Legacy and for the first time in his life he was actually lost. He constantly questioned why Cipher suddenly pulled away from the mission area when their target was right in their sights, was it because they wanted to avoid war with Outer Heaven or was it because they had other plans.

Putting his cigar to his mouth he inhaled with his eyes still looking down at the file and after a few seconds his door opened and he looked up to see Howling Wolf coming in.

"You wanted to see me Boss?" Wolf asked as he came to the middle of the room and thats when Big Boss closed his file and leaned back in his chair taking his cigar out of his mouth.

"Wolf, hows your new position going?" Big Boss asked casually.

"Its more than enough Boss, the recruits are sometimes a pain but its nothing I cant handle" Wolf stated.

"Good, anyway back to the reason I brought you here" Big Boss responded then slowly got up out of his chair and made his way to the window near his desk and just looked out of it. "Theres something going on and its honestly not good".

Wolf could only frown. "What do you mean?".

Big Boss sighed and turned around to Wolf. "I not long got back from Africa but something happened during the operation". Big Boss then walked to the front of his desk taking another inhale of his cigar as he turned back to Wolf.

"Before I left the field I encountered a chopper owned by Cipher, their mission was to take the remains of Code Talker's research. They were unaware of our presence there but when I faultoned the last container it came into view of me and it just faced me".

"They attacked you?" Wolf guessed and Big Boss slowly shook his head. "Thats the thing Wolf, it didnt and instead it turned and left the area without even trying to take the last container...it just allowed me to take it".

Wolf then crossed his arms clearly confused. "Why?".

"I'm not sure, but I plan to find out. There is also something else, something regarding Miller"

"Whats he done now?" Wolf asked.

"Nothing I didnt see, but when I came back I saw Code Talker alone on near this platforms Helipad in some kind of trance. I never saw him do anything like that before but when he came back around he said something that caught my attention" Big Boss revealed.

"Eyes of Kazuhira, a message from the Parasites. I overheard Code Talker saying something about a meeting by some containers here, I dont know what exactly but the fact that the chopper belonging to Cipher decided to let me take the container and then finding out about this meeting...the timing is just to perfect"

"You mean to tell me there could be a spy here?" Wolf was shocked by the thought of a spy.

"I dont know, but only you and Adam know the situation and it will only be you two" Big Boss then raised his finger to Wolf. "I dont even want Stefanie knowing about this Wolf, its not that I dont trust her but the more people know about this the more danger there will be for us".

"I understand Boss, so is there anything you want me to do?" Wolf offered.

"I want you to keep an eye on your recruits, not saying anything but if there is a spy we cant discount the possibility of it being one of the new recruits, we are monitoring all communications going from inside and outside this place but if there is anything suspicious out there I want you to report it asap" Big Boss ordered and Wolf gave a nod.

"I will let you know if anything turns up, what about the research left from Code Talker?" Wolf question.

"Not much, but we hope to have something out of it soon. Right now just continue on as normal and if I need you for anything I will contact you".

Wolf nodded and then saluted. "Will do Boss".

With that Wolf turned and left the room leaving Big Boss alone in his office, taking one more inhale of his cigar Big Boss then moved back around his desk and sat back down in his seat just looking over his report just trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

Was there indeed a spy here at Outer Heaven, or was Cipher up to something when they ordered their chopper to allow Big Boss to leave with the research. Either way he was going to find out no matter what.

-R&D Platform-

It was the dead on night and standing on the top of the main platform looking up at the dormant being of Metal Gear Sahlenthropus was non other then Eli, ever since he came here he wanted something that could destroy his father and everything he loved and the answer was standing right in front of him.

The top of the platform was mostly deserted thanks to the new gaurd routine that Huey fabricated by hacking into the main servers of Outer Heaven and all Eli could do was smirk knowing his plan will soon become reality, as he stood looking up at the massive machine he then heard the familer and slow breathing from a mask.

Slowly turning around he saw the Floating Boy reappear after being in hiding during the conflict with Outer Heaven and the US, now the dust was settling and he had come out of hiding.

"Good to see you, are you ready to begin?" Eli questioned with authority and without saying a word the Floating Boy gave a slow nod as his breathing echoed on the platform.

Eli gave a little chuckle. "Good...".

"There may be a spy at Outer Heaven and Eli is determined to put his plans in motion and he plans to use the Floating Boy to help him, Wolf must now keep an eye on things when Big Boss is away and it is something he cant even tell Silent Butterfly. Even when there is Peace there is still trouble in the center of home. Get ready guys and girls next chapter will be centered around Wolf, Silent Butterfly and Cub so I hope you look forward to that!
