Summary: Bella knew it was wrong. She thought she had it in the bag. Nobody, especially Sam, would notice. She forgets that she doesn't live a normal human life and that Sam Uley isn't 100% human.

Pairing: Bella/Sam

Bella never knew why she waited for him. She sometimes thought that it was her subconscious mind telling her to be thankful. After all, he did save her life. Twice now. That cold night out in the woods. The stormy day out on the cliffs. But she waited on his porch every evening, and he, for some reason never objected.

When she asked about it, he just said he liked to keep an eye on her. For what reasons, Bella didn't know, and Sam didn't elaborate. Bella wasn't an idiot, and learning the secret wasn't hard. She remembered the legends Jacob told those months ago on the beach.

When she figured it out, she didn't confront Sam. Who would? Standing at over 6ft tall, piercing brown eyes, and an expression set in stone, Bella would either piss herself or stand there blubbering like an idiot.

No, it was Sam who came to her. He had a vampire problem, and it was no secret she knew about Cold Ones. At least not to Sam. He wanted any information she knew. He could learn. Bella tried playing it off, acting as if she didn't know, but Sam wasn't having it. After giving her a hard stare-down, he pulled her along deep into the woods, almost scaring the poor girl to death.

"I'm not going to hurt you," He rumbled, his voice was deep and stirred something to life within the teen. Before Bella's eyes, the man stripped, and Bella couldn't advert her eyes even if she wanted to. She stammered and blushed, looked at him like he was crazy. After throwing her a smirk, he seemed to explode into this ball of fur, towering over her with a grace she didn't think a man or animal could possess.

She didn't know what to expect at that point but what he did wasn't it. He stood tall and glanced at her as if he understood everything going on around him. He circled her once, then twice, before stopping to stand in front of her. He then stepped forward, and Bella had to incline her head to even look at him. He bent his head and literally stared her down, and she wasn't terrified, more surprised than anything. Her heart was racing in excitement. He sniffed her. That's all he did, before morphing back into the 6ft man he was.

Bella spilled the beans. Told him everything he wanted to know, and once Bella understood who he was talking about, she was always in LaPush. She wouldn't say that she and Sam were friends, not close friends anyway. Respect maybe? Knowing that underneath the man was a beast that could tear her to shreds, made things different.

Her cliff dive changed things. She had never seen anyone so calm. So composed, and she could feel the anger seeping from him. He didn't yell, scream, but he gave her one look. One look that made her internally drool and wary of him. He said four words to her, simple words, and it wasn't what he said, it was how he said it. The way his voice deepened, the sureness of it. "Don't. Do. That. Again." It made her pant in need. Internally of course.

There was a threat in there somewhere. Would he let her drown? Would he drown her himself because of her own stupidity? Bella sometimes thought the only reason he kept her around was her smart mouth. He told her once that she made him laugh, and that she looked like an angry kitten trying to imitate a tiger. She told him he never laughed. He did then, and it sent tingles down her spine.

On the cliff, she told him he couldn't boss her around, while shaking and shivering from the blistering cold, ruining her moment. He just wrapped an arm around her shoulders, leading her back to his place. Sam wasn't a man of many words, and when he spoke, you could only help but listen. She could listen all day.

It was just him, her, and two boys she barely knew. They didn't know her purpose being around, but if the alpha was okay with it, they could care less. She learned after a while that Jacob was destined for this life, and while worried for her friend, she thought it was interesting.

Sam advised her to keep her distance, and while Bella didn't listen at first, she found he was right. Jacob had invited himself over one afternoon, and while Bella was in the kitchen, a knock on the door sounded, and Jacob took it upon himself and answered the door.

Jacob didn't understand, didn't like the way Sam stared at him, nor the way he invited himself into Bella's home without so much of a hello. Jacob just followed behind Sam in shock, as he weaved his way through the home as if he'd been there a thousand times.

His surprise and shock grew more when Bella and Sam caught eyes, the two having some mental conversation. When Bella stated she had to go, that resulted in an argument, and Jacob just didn't understand what she would be doing hanging around someone like Sam. His enemy.

They moved into the living room; what Jacob thought was out of Sam's sight.

"Sam, really?" Jacob had stepped in her face, glaring down at her. "You're not my only friend you know," Bella responded, looking in the direction of the kitchen. It was like he appeared out of nowhere, heat seeping from his body. He was like water, gliding between them so effortlessly.

"I need her for a while," Sam flashed Jacob a toothy grin, looking like the predator he was. Jacob pushed against Sam with force and grew frustrated when he barely moved. After spouting some obscenities, he left, unaware of the grin that immediately dropped from Sam's face.

"Was that necessary?" Bella had to ask, and Sam just glanced down at her. "No," He responded. Bella could feel his eyes on her like a hawk and it made her body burn. he just rubbed against her with his shoulder, and Bella felt instantly soothed.

That was almost a month ago.

Bella was snapped from her thoughts by his presence. He was crouched in front of her, an emotion on his face she almost didn't recognize. He looked concerned. Bella just blinked, tilting her head a bit. "Where'd you go?" He asked, eyes roaming her face. "Just thinking," She murmured. She couldn't think with him so close. He made her heart accelerate. He made her palms sweat. He made her shiver with desire every time his dark brown eyes pierced hers.

She knew it was wrong. To be attracted to him. He was beautiful. She was sure he didn't feel the same, and that was okay. "Thinking pretty hard," He murmured, standing up. He grabbed her hand, pulling her up with him.

He turned her hands over, glancing down at her. "Let me ask you something Bella," He rumbled. Bella hummed, brows furrowing as he caressed her cheek. She swallowed heavily, her heart beating erratically. Sam never, ever, touched her in this way. Never caressed her in a way that wasn't friendly, granted he never touched anyone at all. He'd brush against her from time to time, but it was never like this.

"Do you think about me?" He asked, tilting his head at her. He held an expression that expressed nothing, but a small smile. "What do you mean?" She asked, somehow managing to keep eye contact. "I think you know exactly what I mean," He purred, and Bella visibly shuddered. "I know you do. Would you like to know how?"

Bella held her breath, frozen under his touch and stare. He leaned down, his lips caressing her ear. "Breathe," He instructed, and Bella sucked in a breath. "Nice and easy," He soothed, and he gently gripped her chin, leaning back to look her in the face.

"I can smell you,"

AN: That's all folks! Until Friday!
