The Sweetest Revenge
Summary: They took everything from her, and they would all pay.
Pairing: Past Bella/Paul
It happened at Dusk. Right before sunset. The end of Twilight. The war. The war between the Cold Ones and shifters. It wasn't supposed to happen, but yet it did, and it was all The Cullen's fault. Every death. Every scream. Bella couldn't make it in time even if she wanted to.
Every time she closed her eyes, she still saw it. The horror of that horrible day. She would run, run past the homes of the people she called family, only to find them empty. Empty of any life.
The door swung with the wind, the harsh creaking sound filling Bella with dread. The wooden plank under her feet creaked with the pressure. Her small home was shrouded with darkness, and Bella knew. She knew deep in her soul that her family was dead.
She slowly dragged her body to the nursery, dropping to her knees, hand reaching to her gut. It was everywhere. The smell permeated her nose, mixing within her body. Her cry was loud, filled with pain and loss, bleeding from her heart. She could only clutch at her heart, uncontrollable sobs wracking her body. She crawled across the floor, embracing her only joy.
The small form was now cold, and a hardness settled over Bella's heart. "Mommy's got you now," She whispered into the darkness, her eyes adjusting slightly to the darkness surrounding her. There, she laid eyes on her lover, almost as pale as her, his eyes closed, face void.
"My sweet…. They'll all pay…."
Bella didn't know where to start, or what to do. She knew enough to gather the pieces. The Volturi had caught up with the Cullen's and apparently found out about the little human they left behind. So…the Volturi started a war. They'd kill anything in their way, anyone that knew of their existence. Hence their big approach, the scene they caused. They wiped out a whole tribe, some of Fork's population, and that included her father.
Only they never gathered what they came for. Bella was out of the state, visiting Renee. The frantic call from Paul sent her home, and even then, it was too late.
Bella hadn't a lead on the infamous Cullen's and knew what she was trying to do was going to take too long. That was until she was approached one night. At the dingy motel she was staying, she could feel them. Their eyes on her. Before she got to her room, she stopped under a streetlight. Looking around, she narrowed her eyes into the darkness. "I can feel you, and if you've come to…" She let out a quiet gasp as two vampires appeared in front of her.
Each one had bright red eyes, pale as snow. One was taller than her and the companion with him. He had dark blonde hair, almost brown, dressed head to toe in what she called Texan style. The woman was shorter than she, with long blonde hair, a small apple-shaped face. "We're not here to hurt you. Thought you could use a little help. You're after the Cullen's?" Bella narrowed her eyes at them, before nodding slowly. He flashed her a smile, looking at the woman. "My name is Peter, and this is my mate Charlotte. We can help you," Bella just raised a brow, knowing running away was futile.
"Right, because you're just so nice," Bella smarted. Peter chuckled. "Actually, I consider myself an evil son of a bitch, and there's nothing I'd like to see more than the Cullen's asses handed to them. I mean, you do want to avenge your family, right? Your husband Paul, your sweet little girl. What was it? Madeline?" He purred. Bella's jaw clenched as she glared at him. "You shut your fucking mouth. I'd rather be dead than one of you," She snapped. Charlotte laughed softly, leaning against the light post. "Darlin, we don't plan on turnin' you," In a blink, Charlotte was behind her, moving Bella's hair away from her neck. "We were thinkin' about makin' you a bit more…" Charlotte sighed, skimming Bella's neck with her nose.
"Superhuman…Venom in your veins. Beating heart. You'll still be human. With practice, which we have a lot of, you'll be almost as strong as us. What do you say doll? Kick a few vampire asses. Get revenge. Baby, we can smell it off you in waves. You reek of it," Peter moved forward, a smirk on his face. "Why do you need me? You seem strong enough and purely capable of handling yourselves," Bella whispered, inclining her head away as Peter tried touching her face. "Because, they won't see you coming," He responded with an evil smile, showing a full row of sharp teeth.
"And if I say no?" Bella asked, breathing heavily. "Sweetheart, we both know you won't. Who would?" Peter smirked, grabbing her wrist, teeth slicing through her delicate flesh.
Edward Cullen was currently sitting with his family around a table, surrounded by people of the New Hampshire hospital. In honor of Carlisle's 5 year anniversary, the hospital decided to throw a charity event. The theme was white of course, doctors and nurses flocking together.
"This is such a lovely…." The white doors burst open, causing many people to look over, confused at the woman who just walked in. Her hair was in a high bun, and she was dressed in a white, thigh-length dress, and heels to match. In her hand was a sword, a sword only one person recognized. "Oh no," Carlisle murmured, but his shock at seeing Bella Swan stuck him for a loop.
Edward's eyes widened as he turned his head, unable to stand. "Excuse me, ma'am," Someone called, making his way to Bella. "I don't think you-" Bella pushed the man away, the force sending him flying into the wall.
People gasped, unaware of what to do, many parting as to not get in her way. "Hello love," Bella smiled. "This is not the place for this," Carlisle hissed, standing. Bella raised the sword, raising a brow. "Oh, sweet, sweet….this is the perfect fucking place. Do these people know that you and your family slaughtered a whole tribe? My family? That's right ladies and gents. Your precious doctor is a killer…and I'm the executioner," At blinding speed, Bella had Carlisle by the throat, lifting him off the ground. "Ready to die?" She asked. "You're going to expose us…my god, what are you?"
Before anyone could react, Bella took the sword, jabbing it in his chest, twisting it until she could hear the bones of his ribs crack. Carlisle's eyes widened, venom slowly pooling from his mouth. She kicked Carlisle's body off, looking to Edward.
Can you hear me now?
Edward's eyes widened, freezing in place at the horrors of her mind. "Wait, we didn't, we didn't know they were going to…" Bella frowned tiling her head. "Kill the La Push tribe? My family? My child?" Rosalie's eyes snapped to hers, her face morphing into grief. "Too late, it happened. Who wants to go first?" Bella didn't wait for an answer, as in a blur, she swung her arms, slicing clean through Edward's neck. His head rolled onto the table, a pregnant pause settling over the room before chaos ensued. Some people froze in place, many people screaming and running for their lives. Some people pulled out their phones to videotape the whole ordeal.
Bella kicked his body away from the table, kicking Emmett in the chest as he tried to tackle her down. Bella smirked as she could feel Jasper's influence. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Don't work on me, cowboy. Peter says hi," She grunted before thrusting the sword behind her, the piercing end slicing through Emmett's neck like butter.
Jasper was faster than the others, able to move out of the way before Bella could do damage. "How do you know Peter?" Jasper asked, zipping in front of her, his hand barely missing her neck as he tried to swipe at her.
Bella watched him carefully, the two circling each other. "Who do you think made me like this?" Bella kicked off the floor, spinning in the air, thrusting the sword through his shoulder. Landing on her feet behind him. She stabbed him through the neck, pulling it back out. Turning to the remaining Cullen's, Bella hummed.
She swiveled on her feet, slowly walking towards the entrance. She grabbed Edward's head along the way. Grabbing a lighter from the pocket of a doctor, she lit the bottom of Edward's neck, tossing it as it started to go up in flames. She sat the lighter back into the doctor's pocket, patting his shoulder. "If you put that out, they'll kill you. I'd advise you to get out while you can," With that, Bella walked out of the hospital, smelling the fire, and hearing the screams of her former family.
The amount of venom in Bella's veins would kill her one day, and that day was close. Peter and Charlotte made sure she was set for the rest of her life, and Bella stayed from under the Volturi's radar. She knew the end was close, and at just 72, she was ready. She never got remarried or had any children, and she went on with life, only mildly satisfied that the Cullen's were dead.
As her time became short, she had vivid dreams and visions of her life before the war.
"Stupid truck," Bella mumbled, hunching in on herself as she was drenched in rain, foot deep in mud. A truck pulled up beside her, and Bella ignored it. "Bella!" She ignored the voice, shooing the truck away. "Dammit, get in the damn truck!" She stopped. She knew that angry voice, and she glanced over to see Paul giving her a look of hell.
She quickly got in as he pushed the passenger door open. "You were supposed to wait," He reprimanded, cursing to himself. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, pulling her across the bench. Bella grasped onto his arm, unable to fight the connection she tried so hard to deny. "I'm sorry," She whispered, laying her cheek against his shoulder.
"You have a choice Bella," Jacob pleaded, grabbing her small hands in his, hoping that she'd change her mind. "I know. I choose him,"
Bella glanced at Paul with wonder, pure curiosity. "Is there a reason why you won't ask me to marry you?" She blurted. Paul's brows rose in surprise as he put the shift schedule down. "What?" He asked baffled. "Is there a reason?" She repeated. Paul turned towards her, motioning her towards him. She found purchase in his lap, and he smoothed her hair behind her ear.
"I didn't think you were ready, you with everything going on, your dad," Bella smoothed his brow with her thumb. "It's not my dad's first rodeo with divorce. I know what we have is forever,"
"She's already got you wrapped by her little thumb," Bella whispered, pulling the rocking chair into the nursery. "Just like her mother," Paul smiled, wrapping his free arm around her shoulders. "I'm not that bad,"
Bella knew her time had ended when she saw Paul. Bella looked down at her hands, the clean, wrinkle-free skin making her look up at him. "How?" She asked. Paul's touch was feather-light as he caressed her cheek. "You died that day. Everything within you, gone. You're home now," He smiled.
Bella shook her head in shame. "You must be so disappointed. What I did, what I became," Paul shushed her, taking her in his arms. "You did what you thought was just. None of that matters now,"
"Forever and beyond,"
