September 4
I was more than ready for Inuyasha to come home today. I missed him terribly; everything from his sweet kisses, cuddling with him in bed, and the way he would rub my stomach and talk to the baby. Also, with the talk about the bandits, I knew I'd feel a lot more secure with him home.
So I spent my day bustling around trying to keep busy while I waited for him to come home. By the afternoon I still found myself feeling a bit restless so I decided to go out and pick some herbs.
I hadn't been out long when I heard a lot of commotion going on in the village. I started to wonder what was going on as I started to hear yelling and screaming. Then it occurred to me: the bandits must be in the village. The commotion continued as I gathered my stuff and started to make my way home as fast as I could. As I moved I was looking around hoping that no one saw me so that I could get home without any problems. I also desperately hoped that no one would be at my house when I got there.
I was about halfway there when a man stepped in front of me. It was no one I knew from the village. There was a sack slung along his back and a knife strapped to his belt. He saw me before I could think to slip away and when he did see me the look in his eyes was almost hungry.
"Look what we have here, a beautiful priestess."
I backed away from him hoping he would find something more interesting and go away. "Get out of our village," I said trying to sound confident. "You don't belong here."
"We're just trying to make a living." He came closer to me the more I backed up. "Isn't that what everyone is trying to do?"
"You could make an honest living like normal people."
"But this way is more fun. Plus there are pretty ladies involved." He grabbed my wrist and I struggled against him.
"Let go! Let go of me!" I exclaimed. I was really scared now. I had no idea what this man intended to do with me. I was afraid for myself and I was especially afraid for my baby. I cursed myself for every bad decision that led up to this: me being so impatient waiting for Yasha to come home, deciding to go out and pick herbs, not bringing my bow and arrows with me.
I did the next thing that came to my mind and I punched the bandit in the face. He staggered backward and he was clearly angry that I had been so defiant.
"You bitch!"
I tried to run but he pushed me to the ground. "Ah!" My heart nearly stopped when I looked up and saw that he was standing over me with his knife.
"I'll teach you!"
I screamed and tried to shield my stomach, my instinctive thought to be to protect the baby first. I expected to be stabbed but nothing happened. Instead, I saw a blur of red and white in front of me as my husband punched the bandit in the face. His punch was much more forceful than mine and the bandit fell to the ground and ended up with a bloody, broken nose.
Inuyasha was so angry, I could have sworn he had gone full demon for a moment. "Stay the hell away from her you fucking bastard!"
The bandit didn't stand down though. He stood up and held up his knife in defiance. "Who do you think you are?"
"I'm your worst nightmare," Inuyasha said in a voice that I only heard when he transformed.
Now I knew I wasn't seeing things; in that moment Inuyasha really had turned into a full demon. His eyes were red, there were purple stripes on his face, his fangs had grown. He held out the tetsusaiga which was still transformed and was also covered in bloodstains.
Between the menacing, furious demon standing in front of him and the huge sword covered in blood, the bandit now looked terrified.
"Now get out of here before I cut your fucking head off!" Inuyasha said in his demon voice.
The bandit ran off screaming.
Meanwhile, I was in shock. I was still recovering from the initial fear of being killed and I was also still surprised that my husband had not only jumped in and saved me, but he had turned into a full demon.
Once the bandit was gone, Inuyasha threw the sword onto the ground, dropped to his knees, and pulled me into his arms. My shock was replaced by relief and I started crying.
"Inuyasha…"
Inuyasha held me for a moment then he pulled back and looked into my eyes full of concern. "Are you hurt?"
"No…" I was looking at him curiously. His eyes weren't red anymore, his fangs were back to their normal size. I could have sworn he had been a full demon, I couldn't have been imagining it. "Inuyasha, you...you transformed. What…?"
"I know. I was so mad when I saw what that son of a bitch was doing to you. My only thought was to protect you."
"Thank you," I said as I hugged him again. He hugged me tightly as well. Despite how mad he had been before, all of that was gone now. He was shaking slightly, I could tell he was scared too. He was terrified of losing me and the baby. "I'm okay, Yasha," I said comfortingly.
"Good. I'm just glad I wasn't too late." He helped me up and we went straight home.
