September 24
Yesterday was fairly relaxing as I spent my time sitting outside reading and enjoying the nice fall weather. The dreamcatcher seemed to be working. I slept really well the night we went on our date, although the really amazing sex Yasha and I had might also have had something to with it too.
Last night was a different story. I've officially thrown away the dreamcatcher that I wanted so badly.
It was the middle of the night. Inuyasha and I were fast asleep. I was woken up when I felt something dripping on me. I reluctantly opened my eyes and found a huge demon floating over us!
It had big red eyes, huge claws, fangs, horns coming out of its head, and it was foaming at the mouth. It was coming straight out of the dreamcatcher and it was staring at me and Inuyasha hungrily.
I screamed and rolled out of the bed as soon as I saw it.
Inuyasha was woken up by my scream. "Kagome, what…?" Then he gasped when he saw the demon. "Holy shit!"
The demon looked back and forth between us as if it was deciding which of us to eat first.
"Kill it, Yasha!" I exclaimed. I was shaking head to toe with fear.
He cut the demon to bits with his claws. For a moment both of us were silent as we tried to wake up and comprehend what we had just seen.
"That was weird," Inuyasha finally said. "Where did it come from?"
"It came from the dreamcatcher," I said, pointing to it with a shaking finger.
Inuyasha pulled it off the wall. "This thing must be cursed."
"Just get rid of it," I said as I got back into bed. "I don't want to be eaten in my sleep."
Inuyasha tore apart the dreamcatcher and then threw it outside. He got back into bed with me and could see that I was still shaken up from the whole thing so he wrapped his arms around me.
"Are you going to be okay?" he asked.
"I think so."
He kissed me and then closed his eyes. "Try to go back to sleep, love."
That was much easier said than done. I was so freaked out by what happened, it took me hours to fall asleep. I ended up sleeping pretty late this morning because of it but the image of the dreamcatcher demon seemed to be ingrained into my mind.
"So you're finally awake," Inuyasha said when I finally came out of our bedroom.
"It took forever for me to go to sleep after that." I eyed him for a moment. He was unusually cheerful. I wondered how he could act so normal after the night we had. "I don't get it."
"What?"
"You seem perfectly fine. How are you not freaked out by that demon?"
"Kagome, we've faced things way scarier than that dreamcatcher demon," he pointed out.
"Those other things weren't trying to attack us in our sleep though."
Even when we went to Miroku and Sango's house for dinner, I was a little jumpy. I was sitting at the table talking with Miroku and Inuyasha while Sango was finishing up with the dinner. All of a sudden one of the kids dropped something and I nearly jumped out of my skin.
"Geez Kagome, are you okay?" Miroku asked.
"She's still freaked out by last night," Inuyasha said.
"What happened last night?" Sango said.
"We bought a dreamcatcher the other day and then a demon came out of it and tried to eat us," Inuyasha said casually as if it wasn't a big deal.
"It was horrible!" I said. "It came out in the middle of the night and tried to murder us in our sleep. I remember a time when dreamcatchers were nice."
"I've actually heard of these before," Miroku said. "Those dreamcatchers are enchanted so they feed off of your dreams and summon a demon in the middle of the night."
"That's awful!"
"People do it as a practical joke."
"Some kind of joke that is trying to have someone killed."
"Sounds like you got fooled by whoever sold that to you."
"Well, I'm never getting another dreamcatcher again."
"Boo!" Inuyasha exclaimed in my ear.
"Ahh!"
Of course, he was now laughing hysterically.
"You jerk!" I said, pushing his arm angrily. "What's the matter with you?!"
"That was really funny!"
I turned to Miroku and Sango. "He's staying here tonight. I don't want him anymore."
"No way, Kagome," Sango said as she started to put dinner out. "We've got enough children here."
"Hey!" Inuyasha said. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Needless to say, I didn't end up leaving Inuyasha at Miroku and Sango's house tonight but it was really tempting. Hopefully, I'll be able to sleep tonight…
