(A/N: There's not really much to say other than I hope everyone's been enjoying this story and enjoys the new chapter. In this chapter, the Titans will be trying to find a way to communicate with him and relationships will begin to develop, that's all I can say without going into vivid detail. They won't be trying to figure out what he is or what happened to him to become what he is just yet, that will be explained, but not now. That's all I have to and can say as of now.)

O*Y*O-V~0~V-O*Y*O

They took him back with them to the Tower and put him into one of the beds in the infirmary. Now, it was just a matter of how long it would take for him to wake up and when.

At first, Cyborg and Robin considered running some diagnostics on him in order to figure more. This idea was quickly thrown out because of the possible consequences if he wakes up and becomes startled.

They had someone sit by his bedside in one hour shifts in case he awakens and panics at his new surroundings. Currently, it was Beast Boy's turn to stand watch, which he was not taking very seriously, he was fast asleep in the chair with his head resting on the back and facing the ceiling.

It was almost two o'clock in the morning and almost time for his shift to end, an alarm clock was by his side and it was programmed to go off every hour. A slight groan could be heard just a minute before it was set to ring, but it wasn't coming from Beast Boy, it was coming from the eel creature.

He opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was darkness, he didn't know what time it was or how long he had been asleep. He heard something nasally and looked to his side where he saw Beast Boy asleep in the chair.

Then, he heard a loud metallic ringing sound coming from somewhere below him. He shrieked and covered his sensitive ears, it was so loud and so painful on him that he thought his ears were on fire and melting. He continued to shierk, as if he was trying to drown out the noise.

Beast Boy immediately woke up once he heard his shrieks and quickly picked up the alarm clock to stop the sound. He aimlessly tossed over his shoulder and tried to get him to calm down. "Shh! Shh! Dude, it's okay! It's okay!"

The shrieks and Beast Boy's voice were loud enough to awaken the other Titans in their rooms. They rushed into the infirmary one by one, expecting Beast Boy to possibly be in trouble, but all they saw was him trying to calm down their 'guest'.

"Uh, what happened?" Cyborg asked.

"The alarm clock went off and he flipped out!" he quickly explained.

They could have laughed when he said that, even Raven, the most serious out of the five, could have as well. Perhaps he shouldn't have been the one on watch, especially since he tends to make a scene.

Robin decided to help him out, but knew that a direct approach could result in either something good or bad. He would rather not take those chances and thought of something else that might work to calm him.

He saw the sink across the room and decided to use the water from it. Since he was biologically an eel, an aquatic creature, water might be more than enough to soothe him.

He went over to the sink and tore off a few sheets of paper towels from the roll next to it. He turned on the water and got it wet, he turned it off but did not wring out the soft, paper-like cloth.

He approached them with the soaked, dripping wet paper towel sheets in hand. The creature stopped his shrieks and looked at him with a slight air of hostility around him, although he did remember him.

He held up his hands and let him see the water dripping from his hand, "It's alright. Remember me? I'm a friend."

He allowed him to get close and Robin could see what looked to be gills on the side of his neck, despite the darkness. He began to gently caress the gills with the wet paper towels, some of the water dripped down his shoulder and chest and it was quickly absorbed by his somewhat dry skin. He did the same thing to the gills on the other side of his neck as well.

There was a melodic growling sound coming from his chest and throat, it almost sounded like he was purring. It felt nice to have cool water on his body again, even if he wasn't submerged in it like he had been for his entire life.

"How does that feel?" he asked. "Good?"

He couldn't respond and he wasn't sure what kind of body moments would have been appropriate for his question. He could have just nodded, but was that really enough or appropriate? He was so kind to him and he didn't want to unintentionally insult him with the wrong gesture. He ended up with the decision to nod nevertheless, it was the only thing he knew how to do that was appropriate.

He saw that the paper towels were still in his hand and still slightly wet. His mouth was dry and he wondered if he could get any water out of it.

He pointed at the paper towels and tapped on them with a finger, asking if he could have it. It took Robin a moment to figure it out, but he complied and gave them to him.

He wasn't sure why he wanted to have them and that question was answered when he put them in his mouth. He was trying to get the water that was still left inside, he was disappointed when he was only able to get a few drops out of them.

Robin held up his hand to his mouth and he was wondering what he was doing. It felt very awkward - for lack of a better term - for his hand to practically be touching his mouth.

"Open your mouth," he instructed. "Open-" He didn't need to be told twice, he heard the first time, he opened his mouth and Robin pulled out the paper towels. "Don't put these in your mouth."

"You're the one who gave them to him," Beast Boy pointed out.

He held his breath for a moment to conceal his anger before letting it out, "Yes, Beast Boy, I'm aware of that."

The creature snickered at the interaction between them. Was it humorous to him? He didn't know, eels don't have a sense of humor. At least, he didn't think they did, maybe this was simply the result of some kind of influence due to interacting with people.

Robin still held the paper towels for some reason and they still looked wet. Were they supposed to be wet because of the materials they were made of? He didn't know nor did he care, he was still thirsty.

He took the paper towels back from him, only for him to take them back. He finally threw them away into a trash can that was next to the bed when he got tired of this odd behavior.

He reached down and picked up the trash can, but it got taken away too, although he put up a bit of a fight for it. He shrieked in anger and frustration, how hard was it to understand that he was thirsty? Perhaps humans weren't as intelligent as he thought.

He opened his mouth just wide enough to slip in a couple of fingers. His tongue felt so badly dried out and the back of his throat felt as dry and parched as sand on a beach.

"Hey," Beast Boy sat down on the bed, "are you hungry or something?" He nodded.

"I'll go get him something he might like," Cyborg left the infirmary. He came back from the kitchen with a glass and a can. He gave them to him, "Here you go."

Beast Boy grimaced when he saw the can, "That's not meat, is it?"

"He's a predator, he has to eat meat," Raven pointed out with a deadpan.

He ignored them and looked down at the glass in his hand. It looked like it was empty, but then he saw vibrations in the fluid inside and knew it was water.

He stuck his hand into the glass, causing most of the water to spill out of it. In frustration, he threw the glass and it shattered against the wall. The Titans looked at the broken glass and him with shocked faces.

Robin left the infirmary and came back with two red plastic cups. He gave one of them to him, he looked into it and saw that it had water in it.

Robin held his cup in his hand, "Watch me, okay?" He nodded.

He brought the cup to his mouth and drank a little water before lowering it. He mimicked his actions and the water poured into his mouth and down his throat, he lowered his cup just as he did when was done with it.

He tilted his head to the side as if to ask "What happens now?"

Noticing his expecting look, he told him, "That's it. That's how to drink water. Simple as that."

He saw that there was still water in the cup and put it on the floor for the time being. He picked up the can Cyborg gave him and showed it to them, as if asking for help or what to do with it.

Cyborg came up to him and picked up the can, showing him the top of it, which had a small tab on it. "See this?" He nodded. He lifted it and inserted his finger into the loop on the tab. "Watch, all you have to do is pull it back," he pulled back the top of the can, revealing the soupy, pink meat inside.

He gave it back to him and he held it in his palm. He picked at the meat inside and stirred the fluid inside of it with a finger, which he licked off to taste if it was any good. It tasted like fish, which was refreshing, he was beginning to think he would forget what fish tastes like, but it almost tasted artificial, which was disappointing. That didn't mean he wasn't going to eat it though, he was too hungry to turn it away.

He pinched the meat and took it out of the can and into his mouth, where it was quickly swallowed. He continued to eat the canned fish in the same way with the same small amounts as before. He looked into the can and saw the quantity hadn't diminished at all, he was puzzled. He might not have been consuming large amounts per bite, but he was certain he had eaten a fair amount of it, the can apparently showed otherwise.

He just decided to be done with it, he didn't want to spend hours eating it, and he doubted they wanted to stand and watch him eat it for hours. He brought the can to his mouth, just as Robin showed him with the cup, and poured the soupy fish meat into his maw. While much of it could be swallowed quickly, he discovered that there were some larger chunks of meat, which had to be shredded with his teeth before it could be swallowed.

Beast Boy chuckled, "You'd think he hasn't eaten in a while."

He wiped his mouth and dropped the can into the trash can, just as he observed Robin doing earlier. He looked at his arm to see if any of the fish or the fluid wiped off on it. When he did, he discovered that some of the fluid and tiny bits of the meat had spilled onto the bed.

He looked at Robin with guilt in his eyes. He placed a hand on his shoulder to reassure him, "Don't worry about it, we'll just wash it. Alright?"

"Allow me," Starfire volunteered.

She took the blanket that covered him to keep him warm, which was soaked with a fair amount of the fluid from the can. It wasn't his blanket, it was one of theirs, that was when he realized that his blanket was gone. He grabbed onto the blanket before she could take it away and tugged on it, pointing at himself as he did so.

Starfire tried to pull it away, "Please, let go."

"I think he wants to know what happened to his blanket," Cyborg surmised.

"It's just in the wash, don't worry. We'll give it back to you eventually," Robin told him. With that, he finally let go of the blanket and Starfire carried it off to get washed.

A low orange light began to peer into the room, which Robin took notice of. Had they really been in the infirmary that long? He decided that this was a good opportunity to show the creature something.

He grabbed onto his arm and tugged on it, beckoning him to get up from the bed, which resulted in him pulling away. He tried again, "Come on, follow me. I have something to show you."

It was hard to tell if he understood why he wanted him to go with him, Beast Boy decided to help him understand by talking in a slow and loud voice. "Get… it?" He made a walking gesture with two fingers, "Follow…" he made a wide gesture to refer to the entire team, "...us!"

He growled at him, he heard and understood the first time. Whatever it was Beast Boy was doing was just an insult to his intelligence. He punched him in the nose, causing him to fall to the floor. He stood up, towering over him for a moment, and walked to the doorway, looking at the Titans expectantly.

"I think he understands just fine," Raven uttered.

"Well, that's a start, at least we definitely know that he can understand us," Cyborg told Robin.

"You're right about that," he replied. He went to the doorway and gestured for the creature to follow him, "Come on."

He watched as he began to make his way down the dark, dimly lit hallway. With some hesitation, he began to follow him, the other Titans were behind him.

He led him to a wide-open space with large windows and various technology. He didn't know what the technology was, all he could recognize was the sink, but he wasn't going to obsessively try to learn, he wasn't very interested. What he was interested in, however, was the large windows that brought in an orange light from the outside.

He went over to the vast windows, almost stepping on a creature that resembled a large, pink caterpillar. Starfire picked it up, referring to it as "Silkie", after she walked in, returning from taking the blanket to the washroom. He looked out of them and saw the most amazing thing he ever saw in his life.

The ocean, his home, was below them, sparkling as waves formed and made their way to the beach. The sun was barely peeking over the horizon, however, that didn't stop its rays from giving the water a beautiful orange and golden glow. Needless to say, it was breathtaking, he would have thought he was about to collapse due to the inability to take in the overwhelming beauty.

"Quite the view, isn't it?" Robin commented as he came up to him. He looked at him and nodded.

Raven then came up to him, flanking him on the other side. She noticed that he was looking at the ocean and watching as the waves made contact with the sand of the beach.

She sympathized with him, she knew how much he must miss where he spent the better part of his life. She missed her home too, she missed her mother and the monks who raised and protected her.

"You miss it, don't you?" she asked him. "The ocean."

He looked down with a sad expression on his face, he did miss it, a lot in fact. He could have started crying, even though eels don't actually cry, maybe that would change since he's not a normal eel.

She saw this and tried to help him lift his spirits, which was not her strength, but she would try. "Hey, don't worry, it isn't as if you'll never get to be in the water again, but just try to make the best of it for now."

If he could talk he would thank her for saying that because she was right. He would be back in the cool waters of the ocean, someday; there was always tomorrow if not today. For now, he would have to learn to adapt to this new land.

"Hey, uh- uh..." Beast Boy started, but couldn't come up with something to say after that and started scratching his head. "Hey, Robin, do you think we could give him a name or something? Just to make things easier."

He shrugged, "I don't see why not."

He then crossed one arm over his chest and tapped on his chin with his other hand, trying to think of an appropriate name. From the way he was positioned, it looked more like he was only trying to make it appear as if he was thinking.

"How about Kevin?" he suggested. He got a growl in response, he didn't like that name. He got the message and came up with another one, "What about Carlos? That sounds like a good one!" He growled again, it did not sound like a good name. "You don't like that? I got another one!"

"Why don't we give someone else a chance, Beast Boy?" Robin interjected, before he came up with something else.

He groaned, "Fine. But no one else can come up with good ideas like I can."

He smiled and remarked, "Of course."

"I might have a name in mind," Raven uttered.

"Okay, let's hear it," Robin replied.

It took her a few moments, but she finally gave her response, "Abaia."

The creature perked when he heard the name she came up with, it sounded very unusual and interesting. He was very unusual and interesting, it seemed to be a perfect match.

Not surprisingly, Beast Boy was critical of her choice, "What? What does that even mean?"

"According to mythology, Abaia is a gigantic eel that dwells in freshwater lakes, it's said to protect the living creatures of the lakes and anyone foolish enough to harm or disturb them will be killed," she explained. "It depends on which version of the story, but the people either drown by a wave created by the Abaia, or by a rainstorm that floods the land."

After hearing the story, he was beginning to like the name even more. He was a protector and he could control water, which could mean he has the potential to create the phenomena in the legend. That was it, this was the name he wanted. He made a sound that sounded like a chirp in happiness.

"What? You like it?! Ugh! Come on!" Beast Boy stomped away in a fuming rage.

"Well, then I guess that settles it." Robin smiled, placing a hand on his shoulder, "Great to have you, Abaia."

O*Y*O-V~0~V-O*Y*O

(A/N: Sorry if this took a while, this took a little longer than I expected to finish, but I hope everyone liked it. I think this took me longer because it's a different setting and it's more dialogue than the earlier chapters.

For the people wondering, Abaia is out of a real world mythology, it comes from Melanesian mythology. The story does vary too, some say it creates a wave with its tail or it uses its powers to create a great storm that floods the land and kills those who ate the fish of the lake it inhabits because the fish are actually its offspring.

I hope everyone enjoyed the chapter and stays in tune for the next one. Until then.)
