Desert Moonlight
Moon POV
Moon sat in the shade of the palm tree that hung over the oasis she and Qibli lived at. Qibli had wanted a secluded area to live, and Moon had to say she agree. They had moved there a few weeks ago, and Moon still couldn't quite believe that she and Qibli were mates. Moon sighed. She couldn't quite shake the feeling that things could have been different if she and chosen Winter. Oh, she loved Qibli, but she still felt... Weird about her relationship with Qibli. Moon closed her eyes. Perhaps things would get better...
Qibli POV
Qibli hovered above the oasis, watching Moon. He wondered if she was happy with him, and if she would have been happier with Winter. He fingered his SkyFire, debating if he should take it off. Qibli still wasn't quite comfortable with Moon hearing his thoughts yet. And he felt guilty about his fear. They were mates, he should be open with Moon. But he didn't want her to see some of his thoughts. Some of his thoughts he was ashamed of. Ever once and awhile, he still dreamed of being an animus. Ever once and awhile, Qibli wished that he just cast one enchantment to make everyone love him. He sighed, and then turned around and flew off, hunting a camel he had seen pass by earlier.
Moon POV
Moon opened her eyes, sitting up. She glanced around the oasis, checking for Qibli. When she was positive he had left, she lifted up a rock and peered underneath. Moon smiled, and then pulled out a small painting that she was working on. It was a headshot of Qibli. She gently added a little wrinkle next to his eyes, and put laugh lines near his mouth. She wanted her gift to be perfect, something that he would cherish forever. She heard wing beats, and slid the portrait underneath the stone. She looked up just as Qibli landed, a dead camel hanging from his claws. "Hey Moon," Qibli said, sounding sad. "I got dinner."
"Qibli... I... I don't know how to put this." Moon said.
"It's okay, Moon. You can leave if you love Winter. I... I understand." Qibli said, tears running down his cheeks. "Qibli... I love you." Moon said, hugging him.
"Moon..." Qibli said, trailing off. "He loves you. It destroyed him when we told our Winglet. He needs you." Moon frowned at him.
"Qibli. You really haven't heard?!" Moon said.
"Heard what...?" Qibli said nervously.
"Winter's dating!" Moon said, shaking with laughter. "He's done with me!" Qibli started laughing to, enjoying having a go at his idiocy. The pair laughed and laughed, sounding like the hyena pack that lived near the oasis. "Oh...! If Kinkajou were here, she wouldn't let me hear the end of it!" Qibli said, tears of mirth rolling down his cheeks. "Yeah! She would laugh her head off!" Moon agreed, gasping for breath. "Hey, look. The moonlight over the desert is beautiful." She said, glancing up. "Not as beautiful as you." Qibli mumbled softly.
"Goodnight."
