Katrina was able to avoid coming home for a while. She didn't trust sleeping in the playground near the home in case the foster mother or even the kid came around. A yawn escaped her lips as she stretched out her muscles. Her back screamed in pain. It wasn't the usual comfort when sleeping in a playground. This one didn't have a tube to sleep in but it did have a 'tree house' bottom underneath the fort. It was in a way like a little children's play house but with wood chips as it's flooring and no door.
Katrina leaned her cheek against her palm. It was hard to listen to the lecture when it was hard to keep her eyes open.
Atomic looked around at his students while giving the lecture on manufacturing support items to compliment a hero's quirk and fight style. Some were having keen interest on the topic whereas some were hardly paying attention. His eyes found one particular student he have been worried about. He could see the dazed look upon her face. Atomic could see the difficulty the teen was having in staying awake. A frown marred his features. Nezu told him he was looking into it but till then he told Atomic to keep an eye on her and stay away from her home situation till evidence is shown.
The auburn haired teen jolted when a bell signified it was time for lunch. Katrina rubbed her eyes before she slowly pushed herself out of her seat. She must've fallen asleep during the lecture. Guilt started to build up at the bottom of her stomach. She shouldered her bag before heading out of the classroom. Before her foot stepped out of the classroom her name was called, "Katrina. May I speak with you?"
Katrina's guilt built up faster. She turned her heel heading to Atomic's desk. Katrina asked, "What would you like to talk about?"
Atomic thought over how he should tackle this. He saw her fall asleep but didn't bother to wake her up. His eyes searched her person for anything out of the ordinary. From what he could see he saw nothing but then again he gave her her regeneration pills so she could easily pop one of those to speed up her regeneration.
He cleared his throat, "Well I want to say I was really proud of you during the Sports Festival. You've done really well considering the type of training you had. I'd like to bring up a placement testing to be placed in a hero course next year if you're interested."
For the first time her eyes brightened up. He could see a change in her he didn't think it was possible. Katrina stumbled on her words, "Do you really mean it that I could be placed into a hero course?"
Atomic nodded, "Of course. You have the potential in succeeding in the hero course and as a hero. Are you interested?"
Katrina felt her energy boost up. She nodded feverishly, "Oh. Yes, please! I am interested."
Atomic felt his lips turn upward. He gave a light nod, "Alright, I'll put in the paperwork and let you know when the placement would take place. Now go on and have lunch before I take up more of your time."
The teen nodded heading out of the classroom. Atomic tapped his fingers on his desk. There were no visual markings of any sort. His student seemed tired, more tired than any usual teenage fatigue. He leaned back on his chair with a light groan. He hates this situation. He hates that he has to wait for proof before intervening. Who made that law or stipulation anyways? At least in these type of situations.
Katrina sat in a corner of the lunch room. Himari didn't bother calling her over or moving to her table. Katrina didn't mind. She found out within first few weeks of their 'friendship' Himari just wanted a pack to rule over. When she found Katrina isn't one to obey or fawn over her words, her attitude changed for the worst. The talk with her teacher added some energy and pep into her step. She opened her Japanese learning book.
A tray hitting the table jolted her out of her reading. She visibly jumped in her seat.
" Why are you here by yourself? Ohhhh? You're reading about learning Japanese?"
Katrina saw one more tray and bento be placed on each side of the first tray. She finally lifted her eyes to meet the three she met over time. The owner of green eyes took control of the conversation to bring the girl ease, "Don't mind Oboro. Anyways if you need any help with your Japanese, I can help you. By the way you were great during the festival! I didn't expect that coming out of a support course student. Not saying support course students aren't great which you totally are."
The tired looking teen glanced at the girl while she took in his friend's words. Even though Oboro doesn't understand, he looked like he was vastly interested in the conversation. Katrina took a bite of her bought lunch. The con of sleeping out in the playground is the no access to a kitchen. Well that is one of many cons, she should say for herself. Hizashi grinned big, "So little listener, about that cafe down the road. How about today after school?"
His yellow sunglasses was pushed up the bridge of his nose. Katrina closed her book before shoving it into her bag, "I best be going. Uh, thank you for the invitation once again."
Katrina is afraid if she were to go anywhere near the school other than school grounds that her foster mother would find her. She finally got away on the day of the Sports Festival. She doesn't want to risk it. Katrina shrugged on her book bag and headed out leaving the trio by themselves. Hizashi's lips went into a frown. Oboro raised an eyebrow, "What did you do, Zashi?"
Hizashi placed his chin on the palm of his hand, "I just asked her about the cafe after school today."
Oboro rubbed his chin, "Maybe she's not comfortable being around us."
Shouta looked the way Katrina left. He looked back over at her unfinished food. He grabbed his bento standing up, "I'm going to head back early. I want to go over a support item I came up with."
Oboro smiled wide, "You know with that idea you can-."
Hizashi interrupted him with a big smile on his face, "Don't be late to our training session!"
Shouta felt his ears burn at the suggestion Oboro was making. Shouta gave a nod towards Hizashi. He did need to talk to the Support Course teacher, Atomic about his support item but he also have a little side mission to do.
Katrina opened her Japanese book at her desk. Atomic didn't question his student coming back to the classroom. His students would do that over time to work on class work or even inventions. Atomic raised his brows when a particular student arrived in his doorway. A hero student. Not the ones he normally sees. He figured the student would want to talk to him to arrange him with one of his students to create a support item. Atomic was about to open his mouth but the student held up his bento. Atomic then gave the student permission to come in. He figured it had to do with the only other student in the classroom.
Shouta placed his bento on Katrina's desk. It startled her gently. Shouta pushed his bento towards her, "You didn't finish your food. Eat."
He could tell a difference from when he first met her to now. Her cheeks were slightly hollowed. Not much it would be noticeable by first glance. Since he was quiet to himself and took the time to take in her features, he noticed. He always had a keen eye for details despite his eyes always drying out when it came to his quirk. Katrina shook her head, "No, I'm okay thank you."
Shouta crossed his arms. She pushed his bento towards him. Shouta shook his head, "Please, at least for me. I'm not going to move or leave unless you eat."
Atomic couldn't help but overhear the two's conversation. Atomic definitely took notice of the girl's health. Slightly hollowed cheeks, her hair isn't as vibrant, and the depleting energy. Now that he thought about it, it has been declining other than her being more tired than usual. Atomic took notice of Shouta pushing the bento back towards her then crossed his arms.
Katrina looked between the bento then the boy. With the shake of her head, she declined once more, "I'm fine. Thank you. That is your food."
Shouta rolled his eyes. He pulled a square item out of his jacket pocket. He twisted the top and started to suck out it's contents. Katrina narrowed her eyes at the, now she can see it's a jelly pack, square item. Shouta didn't look towards Atomic when he called the teacher's name, "Atomic."
Atomic perked up at his name and tried to look like he wasn't watching the two, "U-uh yes? Shouta Aizawa, isn't it?"
The hero course student refused to look away from the girl. His arms still crossed. He asked, "Do you mind if I sit here for the duration of class?"
Atomic furrowed his eyebrows, "You would have to go to your classroom."
Katrina could tell what the boy was doing. She knew her teacher wouldn't allow the boy to stay for class. Shouta pushed the bento closer to her with one finger as he spoke, "I'd like to talk to a support about an idea I had about my hero costume. I could not find them during lunch and home room is after lunch."
Atomic opened then closed his mouth. He got him there. As long as it is alright with the student's homeroom teacher, a student could venture out to other homerooms if needed. Katrina looked at her teacher. Their eyes met for a second before Atomic got up from his seat. He took a deep breath, "I'll speak with your homeroom teacher. It is fine with me as long they are fine with it."
The teacher left the two students alone in the classroom. Katrina did not want the boy to stay any longer. She didn't want him to bother her about her eating habits. She could only eat what she can get. Unfortunately before she left her foster home she only grabbed what she could which isn't alot. Her stomach growled at the thought of how low she was with food. Shouta raised his brows at the sound. Katrina couldn't eat his bento. Shouta heaved out a heavy sigh when he saw she wasn't budging. He rested his chin on the palm of his hand, "How about this... If it is me you're worried about I'll eat half and you can have the other half. My mother always makes too much anyways. I wouldn't be able to eat it all. So do we have a deal?"
Katrina closed her Japanese book. She's getting a little better at being able to mind-translate words from Japanese to English. She didn't fully get what he said but she got the gist of it. Katrina leaned over into her backpack and pulled out her western utensils. Her parents didn't want her to use chopsticks when they lived in America. They didn't want her to get teased for something that is very very common in their culture. Shouta raised an eyebrow at the sight of a fork. Katrina grumbled, "Fine."
Shouta allowed her to eat her fair share which was definitely more than half. He wasn't going to complain. He rather see her healthy than what he is seeing her now. When he first met her, she was fuller in the cheeks and her hair has a nice shine to it. He'd be lying if he said he didn't gravitate to her shininess of her hair color. It's not a popular color in Japan. However, with quirks and quirk evolution he shouldn't be surprised to see her hair color. The bell rung when it was time for Shouta to eat. Shouta started to pack up his bento which Katrina visibly looked disgruntled. Out of her view, Shouta's lips perked upward. Katrina was about to open her mouth but Atomic came in to tell Shouta the news, "Your homeroom teacher was fine with it, Aizawa. If you want I can help you find a particular student who specializes in what you are asking for."
Shouta stood up with bento in hand. Atomic took note of how much was eaten through the clear plastic top. Atomic thought to himself, huh the boy got her to eat. Shouta mumbled, "Thank you, Atomic."
Katrina glared holes into the boy's back who was now at Atomic's desk. Slowly students started to trickle back in and into their seats. Some weren't surprised to see a hero course student but others like Himari was. Himari loudly whispered to her little pack, "Oh. I'm not sure what he is in here for. If it was up to me I'd put him in general studies."
It didn't take a rocket scientist to understand what she said. Katrina's glare flickered from Shouta to Himari. She had no right to put someone down due to their quirk. Or put someone down in general. Himari occupied the seat Shouta was at a couple minutes ago. Katrina bit down on her cheek hard. She could taste metal. Katrina disguised her transferring the pain onto Himari by adjusting her seat and 'accidently' moved her leg too far where it kicked the back of Himari's legs. Katrina pinpointed the pain to Himari's tummy so it acted like it was a bad stomachache. Himari was about to turn around in her seat but she immediately wrapped her arms around her waist with a groan. Himari shot her hand up, "A-Atomic! I need to go see Recovery Girl!"
Atomic and Shouta's conversation paused for a moment. Shouta definitely heard the girl as she walked by. He tried to not let it affect him. He's been told so many things about his quirk that he tried to let it roll off of him. He wasn't sure if Atomic heard the off handed comment but seeming he didn't call her out he assume he didn't. Atomic gave a nod, "Go on ahead."
Shouta's eyes went from Himari to the person behind her, Katrina. He saw Katrina rubbed her cheek tenderly which caused him to raise his brows. Himari hurried out of the classroom. Atomic got the boy's attention again, "Ah, I think that would help you out with your quirk, Aizawa. I think the best person to speak with is Tamaki Morino."
Shouta gave a nod before heading to find one Tamaki Morino who had heard his name from Atomic and immediately jumped up from his seat to meet with Shouta. Katrina could feel the little wound start to heal slowly. Katrina hates people who make fun of others' quirks. You make the quirk. You use it to how you feel it should be used. You know its potential as it is yours. Only you can tell yourself what it is or isn't.
