Chapter 7: Supernatural Haunts, Much?
Previously...
Alex entered the dark room, still smelling the foul odor as she covered her mouth with a clean cloth.
'What died in here?' She questioned herself.
She followed the smell to an open casket that was lit from a lamp above. Inside was something you would find in a horror movie. Her eyes widened as she froze. There was a corpse in that casket!
….
Alex had to hold in her stomach bile that wanted to come up from her belly. The body wasn't new, this guy had been dead for a few decades. Whatever skin was left was leather, grey, and rotten. The place where eyes should be where nothing but empty eye sockets. The grey hair was rotting off of the skeletal decomposing head. His left arm was in fair condition. It showed a scar that circled round. Was this the founder of the Slit Cult? Something glistened in the light on the corpse's ring finger. It was a strange ring that had some strange energy coming off of it.
Alex finally picked up the courage to back away and take a breather.
'Focus, you have to find Sam and Clover,' She reminded herself. 'Don't let that… thing bother you!'
"Alex?" A familiar female voice called out.
It spooked Alex. Alex turned to look at the lightly lit vats, seeing Sam and Clover stuck inside of them. She took a deep sigh of relief and ran their way.
"Sam," she said. "Clover!"
"We knew that you would come for us," Clover said. "I think the button to release us is on that desk somewhere."
"It's the blue one," Sam remarked.
Alex turned to look at her.
"How-?"
"I overheard Scam and the twins talk about it," Sam answered.
"Please hurry," Clover said. "I'm feeling weaker by the minute."
"Blue button," Alex replied as she headed to the desk. "Got it."
As Alex began looking through the desk, she noticed something off.
"Uh, Sam," she paused. "There isn't a blue button."
"What?" Sam replied.
"You've gotta be kidding me," Clover added.
Alex began thinking before she glanced down at her wrist and saw the Multi-Purpose Charm Bracelet. Seeing it gave her an idea.
"Hold on! I've got an idea!" Alex said as she ran back to the vats.
She clicked the buttons on the bracelet to get the saw charm and began sawing through the lock on Clover's vat.
"Don't know why Jer wouldn't switch this to the Laser Lipstick," Alex muttered. "I would've been done by now."
"What do you mean, Alex?" Sam asked.
"He gave me new gadgets before coming out to save you," Alex answered as she finished cutting the lock on the vat Clover was in. "I got you, Clover."
Alex opened the vat door and Clover fell into Alex's arms.
"Thanks," Clover paused. "You are my savior, Alex."
"No biggie," Alex replied. "I'm gonna set you against the wall so I can free Sam."
"Sounds good," Clover said. "I am already starting to feel stronger."
Alex helped Clover to the right side wall and helped her sit down before she went to the vat where Sam was trapped in. Using the saw charm again, she began cutting through the metal lock. Once the lock was cut, Alex opened the door to Sam's vat and Sam came out.
"We knew you would come find us," Clover said.
"Now time to investigate what is in that casket," added Sam.
Alex stopped Sam.
"I don't think you want to see what I just saw," Alex replied.
"What did you see in there, Alex?" Sam asked.
"There's a body in there," answered Alex.
"Fresh?" Clover asked.
"No, he's been dead for a few decades," paused Alex. "My guess, that is Waylon Reads."
There was a sound of applause that filled the room.
"Well done, Alex," Tim said. "Willa and Whitney are proud that you managed to figure that out."
"Scam," a darker male voice called out. "Stand down. You are not the leader here."
"Forgive me, sir," Tim replied.
"How-?" Sam questioned.
Even Clover and Alex were confused about the new dark voice.
"Willa, Whitney," the male voice spoke again. "It appears the experiment failed. You need to get the blonde one back into the vat!"
"We will do everything to fulfill that, Grandfather Waylon" the two sisters said together.
"Sam, he's wearing a ring," Alex said.
"What?" Sam questioned.
"The body," Alex said. "I think that's how we are hearing him. I need to keep them at bay from touching Clover."
"We have to stay to-," Sam began as she watched Alex pull out the gadget that Jerry gave her that no one was expecting. .
"Don't even think about touching her!" Alex said as she pointed the barrel of the gun at the three of them.
"You are too cute, Alex," Waylon laughed. "You are right, I am here with this junk of a family heirloom. We both know that you are too kindhearted to pull that trigger."
