Bereft

The sun shined in the Bialyan sky above a desert. Sand dunes stretched for miles without any sign of life save for a single boy. Peter laid atop the slope of a sand dune. His spider suit glistened in the sun. He groaned and began to return to consciousness. He opened his eyes to see the blue sky. He closed the spread and swiped his palm over the sand before fisting it. Peter gasped as he quickly stood up to see where he was. His lenses squinted as he was looking at the terrain. He was in a desert of some kind. He used his lenses so he could see even further distances. His heart dropped when all he saw were dunes and canyons.

"Where am I?" He wondered aloud as he later looked at his own suit and took off his mask. "Since when did I put on my suit?" He wondered before putting back on his mask, "This is getting stranger by the minute." He said before running down the slope.

"Someone clearly broke into my psyche." He spoke aloud to himself, "But who's strong enough to break through my mind?"

The more he thought about it the more questions he got rather than answers, it's maddening. He should focus less on what happened and more on how he could get home. But where is he?

Peter closed his eyes and began to concentrate on whatever lost memories he had. He squeezed his fists in concentration as his memory flashed in his mind.

'Batman stood before him, standing in front of a map. "Bialya is a rogue state, ruled by Queen Bee."

Peter gasped, "Bialya." Peter stopped running and looked at the sun. "Bialya is in the Middle East, not far from home. And if the sun is rising I need to fly west." He quickly deduced before he kept running.

After running a few miles, Peter stopped to see two people, one was a familiar face who was Kid Flash and one who was not so familiar. The not so familiar one was a girl who wore a green uniform. It was colored in various shades of green and consisted of a mask extending from the hairline to the cheekbones, a sleeveless top with a stylized arrow tip on the front, fingerless gloves, pants with black knee pads, and black combat boots. She had a black utility belt and pouch strapped on her left leg that were likely filled with assorted tools. She also carried a quiver along her back with a bow and a multitude of multi-purpose arrows.. Peter without hesitation carried both of them and took them into the nearest shed that wasn't too far.

Peter gently placed them on the floor and waited for either of them to wake up. The girl was the first and Peter went to her.

"Hey, you okay?" Peter asked.

The girl quickly got up and panicked and Peter was quick to calm her down.

"Hey it's okay," Peter said. "I won't hurt you. I'm Spider-Man."

"Oh hey, Spider-man." the girl said.

"So, uhh, do you have a Green Arrow fixation?" Peter asked.

The girl looked at her uniform and was shocked. "Who put me in this?!"

"Sorry, but I don't know." Peter said, "So, do you know how to use that bow?"

"Yeah, my Dad taught me," she said. She later glared at her quiver. "Dad! He must've done this. Another of his stupid tests?"

"What kind of test?" Peter asked.

"He probably wants me to kill you," she said, making Peter chuckle nervously.

"Talk about reassurance," Peter said sarcastically.

The two teens look to see Wally who was slowly waking up. "KF!" Wally saw Peter and his expression was happy and relieved.

"Spidey!" Wally went to Peter, but realized there was a girl here. "Do you know her?"

"No," Peter said. Just then Peter felt his Spider-Sense tingle and looked at Wally.

"My Spider-Sense is kicking in!" Peter shouted. Wally then grabbed the two and ran out of the hut which was impacted by a missile. Kid Flash put Peter and Artemis down, but when Peter squinted his lenses again, he saw missile tanks and trucks coming towards them.

"KF, we need to go now!" Peter said.

KF nodded and picked up the two and started running away from the fire.

When KF got some distance from the tanks, he put the two teens down and was out of fuel. "Sorry guys I need some fuel." Wally said.

Peter nodded, "Do what you need."

When Wally tried to get food out of his wrist pouch, he noticed that no food was there. Before Wally could say anything, Peter's Spider-Sense kicked in.

"Spider-Sense!" Peter grabbed Artemis as Wally backed up and there was a young shirtless teenager who looked like Superman. He landed in the middle and was acting feral, first attacking Wally and then approaching the girl in green and Peter who dodged his attacks and was panting.

"I'm so tired." Peter muttered.

He later heard something fall and looked up to see a bomb drop on them, so he grabbed the girl in green and leapt out of the way. When he later looked around and saw tanks coming in on them and the shirtless teenager attacked the tanks and the men. "Uhh, we need to go now," Peter said. He carried the girl in bridal style and ran up to KF. "KF, we gotta go now." Wally nodded and ran slightly ahead of Peter who was carrying the girl.

As they kept running, Peter looked back and saw a bomb falling down near them. "Brace for impact!" Peter yelled. When the bomb dropped, it exploded, sending KF, Peter and the girl in green flying. As they got up, they looked up and saw there were combat jets that were flying past them and then changed direction to fly towards them. Peter's lenses widened as he grabbed the girl and Wally. "Get down!"

As the planes shot cannons, they all missed the three teens and they were again changing direction as they had to shoot them a second time. The girl in green was about to shoot an arrow until she heard a female voice in her head.

"Don't worry I'm almost there!" the voice said.

"Did you guys just hear a girl talking in your head?" the girl in green asked.

"No," Peter simply said.

"Girls are always on my mind," KF said, "But, they are not usually talking."

They later looked up to see the planes being crashed by a female martian who had red hair.

"Well, J'onn…" Wally said. "The costume looks… familiar, but I'm not sure the new bod screams 'Manhunter.'"

"You know my Uncle J'onn?" the female martian asks. "Hello Megan, of course you do! You're Kid Flash, Wally, you're Artemis, and you're Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man, our leader."

"Hold on a hot minute," Peter said, now taking off his mask. He had this vibe that he knew the female martian. "J'onn is your uncle? Is that why you know me?"

"Your names are really Wally and… Peter?" the girl in green tights now known as Artemis looked at Peter and started to blush.

"Y-Yeah," Peter said.

"It's okay, we're teammates," the Martian said. "Friends, I made you cookies."

"You guys know her?" Artemis looked at Peter as he scratched his chin.

"I have a feeling in my head as if I know her." Peter said, "Though I can't really get a hold of it."

The female martian sighed, "You both lost your memories too. C'mon, Robin, Batgirl, and Superboy need our help. I'll fill you all in as we go."

"Of course Batbabe, Robin, and Superwho now?" Wally said as they were walking.

They all paid close attention. M'gann explained why they were there and how the team worked. They set up a base of operations miles away. It was nightfall when they were finally getting close.

Peter's Spider-Sense kicked in as gunfire was heard. "Gunfire up ahead." He informed me before running ahead.

Reaching the source of the gunfire he found a cloud of smoke. The sounds of men grunting and hitting the ground came from inside the cloud. Peter activated his thermal lenses and saw two familiar figures fighting off the gunmen. Peter smirked and jumped in on the action.

"Mind if I join the party?" Peter asked. He shot an impact web at 3 gunmen and looked to Robin and Batgirl.

"Spidey!" Robin said.

"Thank god!" Batgirl said.

The soldiers took out hunting knives but a black blur zoomed by them disarming them. Everyone looked back to see their knives in a pile by Kid Flash's feet.

"Mind if I take these?" He teased before speeding away.

In a blur, Wally knocked four men off their feet. The speedster turned around and jumped up to deliver a dropkick to another. One was about to pounce on Peter before he was launched into the air by an invisible force, M'gann appeared in the sky before dropping the man.

A group of soldiers ran for their knives but before they could an arrow at them. The arrow burst into a net entangling the men. Before they could cut their way out Robin approached them before dropping a pellet. The pellet exploded releasing a cloud of knockout gas.

"KF!" Robin exclaimed approaching his friend, "Man is it good to see a familiar face." He said before locking in a bro hug.

"Hey, Rob, Batbabe. Memory loss?" The ginger asked.

Batgirl looked at Kid Flash with an annoyed look.

"Six months! Let's hogtie these creeps and compare notes." The boy wonder suggested.

Now with Robin, "So we're a team and I'm new?" Batgirl asked, digesting all this information.

"The 6 of us and Superboy." M'gann replied. "Though Harry isn't here right now, he's still healing from the incident in New York."

"Then this must be his." The boy wondered, holding up a piece of ripped fabric.

Quickly taking it in hand, M'gann saw that it was indeed Superboy's, "It is. Did you see him?"

"I think we did." Artemis stated.

"Feral boy? Some teammate, he attacked us." Wally scoffed.

"He didn't know who we were." The blonde reminded, "I don't know who we are!"

"I remember Batman ordered radio silence." Robin informed, "Our team must work for him!"

"How do you know we don't work for my mentor?" Wally replied, touching his emblem changing the colors of his suit from all black to yellow and red, "Woah, this is so cool." He gushed.

Everyone else tried to do the same but nothing happened, "We look ridiculous!" Artemis exclaimed as Wally continued to change the colors of his suit.

"Can you not?" Peter snapped at Wally.

"We need our memories back." Artemis stated.

A sudden flash of light engulfed them and they were no longer in the desert. The four of them stood in a room of purple with windows that showed images of themselves. A being of our light appeared before them.

"I brought you into my mind to share what I remembered so far. But I need your help." M'gann's voice echoed in the room. The light revealed to be her with a hood, "Together, our broken memories can form a whole if you open your minds to mine."

"You want to paw through our private thoughts?" Artemis asked defensively.

"I have no wish to intrude I—" M'gann started.

"You need to hack into our minds to know what happened to us. Got it, go." Batgirl said.

"If this is what gives us back our memories then I'm all for it." Peter said.

"My brain's all yours. Don't let its brilliance overwhelm you." Wally states boastfully causing Barbara to elbow his side.

"Or underwhelm you. Hey, why isn't anyone just whelmed?" Robin began to wonder.

Peter sighed, but noticed Artemis still hesitated. He took off his mask, came to her side and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. The two exchanged a look before the blonde faced M'gann, "The last six months and only what you need."

'Flashback'

Together they watched each other's memories while piercing their own together, "The watchtower detected an immense power surge in the bialyan desert." They saw Batman speak to them in the mission room, "Spectral analysis revealed elements non-terrestrial in origin. Find out what happened at that site, what landed there." They all stood together, "Bialya is a rogue state ruled by Queen Bee, And not a member of the League's U. N. Charter. All communications are subject to interception. Maintain radio silence at all times." The Dark Knight ordered.

They went from the cave to the desert, "You'll land in Kourak on Bialya's border. Two clicks from the hot zone."

"All clear." Robin and Batgirl informed the team.

Through Robin's eyes, they saw the team walking out of the Bioship.

Another flash, they stood in Wally's perspective, they stood over their target, "The Byalians control the site." Artemis informed.

"Set up here." A voice echoed.

They watched as Superboy set down a machine with Peter's help.

A third flash and they looked through Artemis' eyes, "We'll be up and running in no time." Robin informed me.

"Jackpot! The sites are lousy with Zeta-Beam radiation." Wally stated.

"I'll check it out in camouflage mode." M'gann suggested.

"Be careful." Superboy said.

"We need to maintain telepathic contact." Peter said.

"Good thinking, Spider-Man." Kaldur said.

'Flashback ends'

Everyone's eyes shot open, "Aqualad!"

Peter and Artemis looked at each other and pulled their hands away while blushing.

"Where is he what happened next?" Robin asked.

"I don't know that's the last I... we remember." She replied.

"We need to look for Kaldur, now!" Peter ordered.

The team didn't take long to find Kaldur as he was unconscious, he was muttering words and M'gann was concerned.

"I can't restore his memories in his condition," she said. Peter, who now had his mask on, clicked his tongue.

"Can you call the bioship?" Peter asked.

"It's out of range," M'gann said, she looked to Wally. "Can you carry him?"

"He's too heavy." Wally said. "And I'm too low on fuel."

"Can you levitate him?" Batgirl asked.

"The bioship is too far away and I have to find Superboy," M'gann said. "6 months ago, he didn't exist. He has no memories, just animal impulse. I'm the only one who can help him."

"Fine." they all looked at Peter who gave M'gann a nod of approval. "We'll stay with Kaldur while you get Superboy."

"Thank you, Peter." M'gann later flew off and Peter yelled for her to be careful. As M'gann's figure was retreating, Peter picked up Kaldure over his shoulder and looked at the rest of the team. "Alright, we need to move." Peter ordered. "Robin, see if you can trace the bioship. Artemis, KF, Batgirl, stay and keep watch, you never know what will happen."

Luckily, there were no complications and Peter placed Kaldur on a medical bed in the bioship. It didn't take long for Kaldur to wake up and see Peter who was unmasked.

"Peter! What's happening? Where am I?" Kaldur frantically asked.

Peter gently pushed him on the bed, "It's okay Kaldur, just calm down. M'gann will give you back your memories."

"Who is M'gann?"

"Right, you don't remember. Uhh, M'gann is J'onn's niece." Peter said.

"Where are we?" Kaldur asked.

"Well, we are Bialya. Batman sent you, me, Batgirl, Kid Flash, Robin, Artemis, Superboy, and M'gann on a mission. Just stay put and I will have M'gann restore your memories." Peter explained.

"Oh by the way why didn't Harry come?" Robin asked.

"Well… he is still healing from the disappearance of his Dad." Peter said, "and school started in New York so he is trying to transfer out of there."

"Right," Robin said.

"Guys!" M'gann said telepathically.

"Is this the M'gann you were talking about?" Kaldur asked. Peter nodded as he spoke telepathically, "We hear you M'gann. Do you have Superboy?"

"I do." M'gann said.

"Great," Wally mentally groaned. "I don't have a souvenir."

"Don't worry Wally." M'gann said. "I got that covered."
