The Squire ran as quickly as she could. She could hear her own lightweight footsteps beneath herself, rapidly tapping as she ran along. Her standards flapped about around her legs as she ran, her eyes desperately looking around for a way out that didn't have anyone in her way. She sprinted through gardens and social areas, weaving between benches, tables, a fountain, past doorways and buildings, the bath houses, the latrines, everything. Every time she came upon some gate that led outside, it had guards that would surely stop her. Either that or just people commuting in and out of the barracks to deliver supplies, or books, or weaponry and armor, or whatever was needed throughout the day.

"I came in through the horse stables, the horse stables! Where the hell are the horses?!" She cried out to herself, panting as she ran along, sliding to a brief stop as she looked at what seemed to be an outdoor picnic and lounge area where the trainees could eat lunch outside under a wooden overhang that provided shade. She winced, wishing that she could spend time here with Amybeth, eating together and planning their days out.

But nope. She was stuck in the Academies, getting teased and looked at with contempt. The blonde took a few breaths before continuing to run along, looking behind herself to see if anyone was pursuing her. She didn't see anything, so she kept going forward. Being inside the barracks really helped put into perspective how big the campus was, as from the outside, it only seemed like a bunch of buildings clustered together and called the barracks. But she understood now that there was a lot more in this area than met the eye.

She came upon a fenced area, which she quickly ran up to. She wrapped her hands around the bars just as she had done when she was on the other side of them. Peering up to the top of them, she knew she couldn't climb them. She looked out between the steel bars, seeing the stone building of the central dungeons across the large pathway, where tons of people obscured her vision. The actual dungeon cells were dug out in underground chambers, so the surface building wasn't all that big. Much smaller than most of the buildings in the barracks, in fact.

She then looked over her shoulder, quickly trying to get her bearings. That was when she saw it, the bakery that she had seen earlier with that villager! She knew that the gate she had entered through was nearby, and that the stables weren't too far from it. So, she traveled along the gate, before gasping, as she could see in the distance that the teachers and instructors of the barracks were beginning to lead their groups of trainees around the barrack grounds, as a sort of introductory tour.

The Squire knew there was a total of 60 trainees, and as she hid behind a stone bench, she counted 10 students. That meant there was 6 total classes. The young girl took note of this, since she wanted to learn everything she possibly could about the process that went on within the Hero Barracks. She watched as the group went along before beginning to move again, quietly. She followed the path of the gate, until she finally saw what she was looking for. The horse stables!

She made a run for it, running towards the stables, her eyes tracking the guards that were facing outward on the other side of the gate. The main issue was finding out a way that she could get out through that gate without the guards making a ruckus and chasing after her. But… she did have a stable full of horses she could easily create a distraction with, right?

The young blonde made her way into the stables, her small nose wrinkling at the smell that always tended to linger when it came to horse stables. She brushed it off, though, and slid through the door. She made the mistake of letting the door go, however, letting it bang against the other door, both of them rattling and shaking lightly. The young Squire didn't think much of it, though. But from the outside, the Squire's pursuer caught on, turning their head over in attention.

"Heh, finally opting to hide, eh?" Katsue exclaimed to herself, creeping on over to the stable doors, her footsteps practically entirely silent since the noise of the bustling fortress on the other side of the steel gate wasn't all too distant from the stables. She looked over her shoulder, spotting Emora and Amybeth walking along the side of the dorm buildings, walking past some groups of trainees that were being assigned their room numbers and roommates.

"Right on time! Let's see just who you are, mystery intru—"

Suddenly, Katsue could hear a muffled yell and the sound of some riled-up horses, loud neighing and rapid hoof shuffles clearly audible from the other side of the door. The Shinobi's expression went from curious and excited to worried and confused. As she reached for the doors, they suddenly shot open, the Shinobi letting out a yelp as she raised her arms up in front of her face, the doors smashing into them, saving her face from a possible broken nose.

Katsue fell onto her back, two horses charging past her on the ground. She looked up and watched as the blonde-haired Squire stood in the stables, opening the doors up to the other stables, which the horses inside were also quite panicked, seeing their brethren charge out the door, which prompted them to want to do the same. Katsue sat up with a grunt, putting a hand out. "S-Stop it, what're you doing?!"

The Squire turned over with a gasp, her eyes widening as she locked eyes with Katsue. There was one small issue, though. She had grown distracted by Katsue's cry, but the lock of the stable she was in front of had already been undone. The horse reared up, letting out a loud neigh as it prepared to charge forward past its stable door. If it succeeded, the Squire was sure to be trampled by the large steed.

Katsue grit her teeth as she saw this, her purple eyes dilating as she let out a cry. "LOOK OUT—NO!" She thundered, using her right arm to launch the rest of her body upwards, her legs moving to catch herself. She caught herself in a crouched position, her legs poised to shoot her body forward.

The Squire's head turned over to the horse as it reared up. She took a step back, watching as the large animal touched down and burst forward, the door slamming open—

"AAH—!"

In what was literally a puff of smoke and a tackle, the Squire found herself on the ground with Katsue's body grasping onto her, both of them on the ground as the large steed that the Squire had set free charged outwards and followed its two fellow horses out through the stable doors. The horses that remained in their stables shook her heads about, their manes flailing, neighs coming from nearly each of them.

The Squire panted heavily, watching as Katsue began to lift herself up from her body. Filled with embarrassment, shock, confusion, and a flurry of other emotions and anxieties, she froze up, turning over from her side onto her back, and just staring up to the Shinobi with wide eyes.

Katsue slowly pushed herself up off from the young girl, sitting back onto her legs as she looked down to her with a light pant. She smiled briefly, before just looking over her shoulder to see where those horses had rushed off to. The Shinobi turned back and gave the Squire a sort of: 'what the fuck,' type look.

"I-I don't understand, what'd you do that for?" Katsue asked, slowly standing up and offering a hand down to the girl. The Squire just stared, her chest urging for her to let out a gasp as her eyes shot to Katsue's hand, staring at it. She was about to touch an Alpha! The girl inhaled, her eyes shooting up to Katsue's, meeting them with a hesitant expression.

"Come on, get up! Unless you plan to just lie there all day. I certainly wouldn't want to, considering how it smells in here…" Spoke the Shinobi with a small grimace, her other hand rising to her nose and pinching it briefly. She shook the hand that was extended, prompting the Squire to finally reach out and grasp onto it. She felt Katsue's smooth skin, her own smaller hand grasping onto the Shinobi's tightly. She let out a small exhale as she felt herself get lifted up off the ground, pulled up by the Samurai Hero with a small grunt of effort.

The girl stood there, staring up to Katsue with a shocked stare, still holding onto Katsue's hand. The Shinobi awkwardly glanced at the Squire, before just shaking her hand in a handshake to try and make the situation less awkward. "Nice to meet you too, miss…" She began, dragging out the "miss," in order to finally find out the Squire's name.

"And don't bother trying to run away this time, you won't let go of my hand, so I won't let go of yours!" She said in a lighthearted manner, a smile on her face. The Squire let out a gasp, realizing that her hand was growing sweaty. Embarrassed, she frantically pulled her hand back, wiping it off on the lightweight linen standards that covered her thighs. She prepared herself to speak, her lips slowly opening to do so—before…

The girl's diamond blue eyes shot to the stable's entrance, where she saw her approaching the stables, and… she was looking right at her. The girl froze, her heartbeat accelerating to the point where she could hear it clearly in her ears. She didn't know she had, but she had begun to let out a small whimpers, which Katsue could clearly hear.

The Shinobi turned to look at what the young blonde was staring at, her purple eyes drifting to the stable's doorway, where Emora was leading a large horse along by its lead. It was the same horse that nearly trampled over the young Squire. She was bringing it back to the stables, approaching steadily with a somewhat irked expression on her face. Though, that was to the average person looking in. To Katsue, she knew it had to do with the reasoning on what had happened. The Warden was merely confused. A little way behind Emora was Amybeth, also leading along a horse, with Cinder walking right up alongside the ginger-haired Squire with the third and final horse that had been freed from the stables.

Katsue turned to look back at the Squire, whose eyes were staring at Emora, before they darted back to look at the Shinobi. Her lips quivered as she stared at the Japanese woman, still trying to speak. "I-I'm so sorry—I just… I needed—erm," Stammered the young girl, before Katsue brought a finger to her own lips, and shushed her.

"Don't worry. You're not in any trouble, Squire, we just want to know what you were doing here! We can get this all settled out if you just calm down, okay?" Katsue said in a comforting voice, giving the girl a nod to try and comfort her. The Squire did as told, quieting down as Emora, Amybeth, and Cinder all approached, entering the stables and getting the horses settled back into their respective stables. The Squire eyed Amybeth, who also occasionally glanced at the Squire as she got the horse calmed down and comfortable. The blonde just looked down in shame, feeling absolutely terrible. What was she thinking? Not only did she cause a massive disruption with letting horses free, but she broke into the barracks in the first place. She wasn't even supposed to be in here, and now, she got herself into even more trouble when she tried to get back out.

This was a disaster. She had not only embarrassed herself, but Amybeth, too, all in front of Alphas. The girl squeezed her eyes shut, hearing the shuffling of feet and hooves as everyone got prepared to talk. She could hear them getting closer to where she stood alongside Katsue, and she still didn't dare open her eyes. She just kept her head down, her blonde bangs draping down over her eyes to conceal them.

Emora walked up to Katsue and the young Squire who stood next to her, Amybeth and Cinder at her sides. The Warden first looked to Katsue, nodding her head in the direction of the young girl. "Looks like we finally caught our intruder, huh? They turned out to be quite the troublemaker." Spoke the Warden, bringing her arms up and folding them beneath her modest bust.

Katsue just let out a small laugh, nodding her head in agreement. "Yep! She almost got herself killed, too." She brought up, turning her head to look at the girl. Amybeth's eyes widened a bit, a tiny gasp escaping her lips one she heard what Katsue had said. Emora just looked on with a sad frown. Cinder, meanwhile, was mainly waiting for an explanation. He was more so the one that did things by the book.

"What even happened? One second, Amybeth and I were walking along to the south gate to try and see if she had gone out through there, and the next, I hear the doors bursting open and horses galloping their way across the path. The guards out front opened up the gate to get in and see what was going on, too." Emora explained, looking over her shoulder, where the guards that the Squire first set out to distract were assuring the Barrack staff that everything was under control. Just a 'horse stable mishap.'

The Squire slowly opened her eyes, but still refused to look up, feeling too ashamed and embarrassed to do so. She just stood there, her neck and face flushed with red. Her heart was still racing, which didn't help her sweaty palms, spaghetti knees, and shaky breaths.

Emora looked on, squinting a bit as she did so. She felt like she recognized the platinum blonde hair of the girl from somewhere. But she still needed to be sure. She looked back to Katsue for her explanation.

The Shinobi placed her hands on her hips, tilting her head in the direction of the Squire to refer to her. "Well, I was tailing her practically the entire time, just to see what she was trying to do. It was obvious that she was lost—struggling to find a way out. When she saw the gate, I guess she just—needed some sort of way to get out, I suppose?" She said, unsure if whether or not this was the Squire's train of thought. Katsue glanced at the young blonde, before turning back to Emora. "That's when she ran into the stables, where I was gonna confront her. I guess she tried to use the horses as a way to get the guards to open the gate so she could slip out while they dealt with her mess." Katsue went on, pouting lightly as she shrugged, supposing that's exactly what she would've done if in the Squire's shoes.

Emora nodded in understanding, exchanging a look with Cinder, who had his arms crossed with disdain. He didn't exactly like the idea of people breaking rules, especially not during a time where everything was going so smoothly. This was the first time the Alphas were doing something like this for the Barracks, and this happens? Not really a good look.

Emora turned to look at the Squire, who was still completely silent. She supposed that the best way to make her speak was by having her talk to somebody she wasn't so intimidated by. So, she turned to Amybeth with a smile. "You talk to her, Amybeth. It was your name she yelled out during the fight, anyway."

Amybeth looked at Emora with wide eyes, finally realizing why everyone was looking over to that armor and weapon stand. Leanne had yelled her name out when she got knocked down by Emora's first counter punch. Amy couldn't help but smile. It was so like Leanne to get worked up over something like that. But—she was also surprised, since it wasn't very like her to break into somewhere where she wasn't supposed to be. She took a small step forward, Katsue sliding back and over to Emora to give the two girls space.

The ginger placed a hand on Leanne's shoulder, shaking it ever so slightly. "Hey, Leanne. It's… definitely a huge surprise seeing you here, you know." She said in a friendly tone. As soon as Amy spoke, Leanne's head snapped up, her eyes filled with tears as she finally revealed her face to the three Alphas who stood behind Amy. Emora's eyes widened a slight bit as a distant memory returned to her.

Leanne was the girl she spoke to about half a year ago, when she first returned to Fort Diamond in her battered, beaten, and crippled state following the events that had transpired back in the Myre, in the Hakushi Province, Emperor Atsuto's capitol city and home to his royal palace, the Hakushi Manor. Emora smiled to herself, unable to believe this amazing coincidence. Had she really inspired this young girl that much? The simple fact that she had that sort of effect on people thrilled the still young Warden.

"O-Oh, Amy! I'm so sorry, I've—I've made a fool out of myself and you! And in front of the Alphas, too—I… I don't know how to make up for it, p-please, just forgive me!" Leanne cried out, taking a step forward and hugging onto her best friend. Amy let out a small gasp, looking down to her childhood friend, before just hugging her back, rubbing the back of her head with her gloved hands to try and calm the crying blonde.

"It's okay, Leanne, truly! Besides, I'm not the one you should be apologizing to…" Amy mumbled, turning her head to look at the three Alphas that watched. She let out a small chuckle. "I think you've got a bit of explaining to do."

Leanne sniffled as she pulled back from the hug, nodding her head as she looked up to Amybeth, before finally mustering up the courage to face the three Alphas. Mainly Emora. She looked up to the three, locking eyes with each, before finally bowing down 90 degrees in respect. "Words can't explain how much I…" The girl could feel a sob creeping up her throat as she spoke, so she paused to push it down, swallowing harshly.

"H-how much I regret everything I've done here today. I know that I shouldn't have even been within the barrack grounds, and I've committed the crime of trespassing. My reasons for doing so are not justified in any way—and… I want to apologize for any and all inconvenience and trouble I have brought you all. From the bottom of my heart—" She croaked, looking up, tears streaming down her face as she looked at the Alphas. "I'm so, so sorry…" She sobbed, now just letting Amybeth hug onto her as she wept.

The three Alphas stood there, all with astonished looks on their faces. Even Cinder. They all just turned back to look at the young Squire, who just dug her face into Amybeth's chest and cried her guilt out. Amy didn't know what to do, so she looked to the Alphas for instruction, or any suggestions they might've had. Cinder just shook his head with a sigh, since he knew that the Squire meant every word of her apology. He had forgiven her, and from this outburst of emotion, he wasn't angry enough anymore to dish out any sort of punishment.

Katsue just stared with a sad frown, her hands together behind her back as she watched. She didn't really want to do anything to the Squire either. Emora stood in the middle with… a smile? It was a sad smile, but she had it for good reason. The apology that Leanne had given was truly heartfelt and meaningful. Emora wasn't expecting to ever see Leanne again after first speaking to her those six months ago. But yet, here she was, crying her eyes out and apologizing for breaking into the Barracks. Somewhere that Emora assumed she wished she could be in for herself.

She took a step forward and placed a hand on the young Squire's shoulder. The same way she had done so the first time the two had met. Leanne felt this, pausing her sobs to look at who was gripping her. Upon seeing Emora's face up close, this time flawless and free of battle-related imperfections, she gasped, staring into her bright golden eyes yet again.

"You're that young girl that was in the conference building that one day. When I returned from my… mess, in the Myre." Emora spoke, with a short giggle following her sentence. Leanne just stared, before swallowing and sniffling, nodding her head. She still couldn't speak. If she did, her voice was sure to crack at the first chance it got.

"Tell me, why were you in the conference building that day, anyway?" Emora asked curiously, her tone still friendly and gentle. Leanne opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Just air. Amy shook the blonde lightly, giving her a reassuring nod, a smile on her face. Leanne nodded back to her friend, before turning to Emora and taking in a deep breath.

"I… had gotten in trouble with a Conqueror that day." She said, her gaze falling from Emora's face to her feet in yet another wave of shame. Leanne just couldn't seem to stop embarrassing herself in front of her idol. It hurt.

Emora, however, was even further intrigued. "Well, why? What happened with the Conqueror?" She asked, her head tilting to the side a bit. Leanne sniffled, shrugging her shoulders. "He was being mean to a couple of women from my town. He… he was like—"

Amy frowned, looking away from Leanne. She was there when Leanne had gotten into that confrontation. It wasn't exactly pretty. But that Conqueror definitely deserved what happened to him.

"He… was being really creepy. Catcalling and… flirting, and—"

Leanne was interrupted by Emora, who hummed loud enough to signal the young blonde to stop. "Yeah, I see. And what'd you do about it…?"

Leanne now looked up, her downcast eyes that were formerly modest and filled with hurt and fear were suddenly shimmering with pride. The Squire looked Emora in her eyes, the Warden's own eyes dilating a bit as she recognized the stare she was receiving. The stare of a Warden.

"I yelled at him, and he yelled back. He… he called me names, and when the women tried to stop him from yelling so much, he hit one of them. That was when I…" Leanne paused, looking over her shoulder. Her eyes locked onto the blue-wrapped hilt of the arming sword on her back. She soon turned back, though, locking eyes with Emora again.

"I used my sword to… stop him, from swinging his hand out to hit the other woman. I ended up cutting three of his fingers off. All but his pointer and thumb…" She explained, the eyes of everyone but Amybeth widening at the story. Emora frowned a bit, but… now, she thought back of a memory that had happened over a year ago. Back when she had first met Rose and Daisy, she had learned about how Arun Steel, a terribly overconfident and malevolent Centurion, had mistreated and raped them. On top of denying both of their newborn babies from having the chance to live.

Remembering the rage she felt, and the way Arun ended up at the end of the fight, Emora knew that Leanne's anger was justified, as it was in the defense of the helpless. Emora turned to look at Cinder and Katsue, a particular sparkle in her eyes as she did so. The Commander looked down to the ground with disdain for the Conqueror, while Katsue looked away with a wince. She couldn't help but feel bad, but… what the man was doing was wrong, and everyone knew it was.

"And I'm guessing the Conqueror was one of our own Heroes. That's what got you sent to the Conference Building." Emora said, frowning as she understood what had happened.

Leanne nodded slowly. "He wanted to get me kicked out of my Hero Academy. He… he wanted to get me in trouble for doing what I did. And—I was scared. I thought General Alphus was gonna agree with the man. But when you talked to me on your way out, I knew I had done the right thing. I knew that I was gonna get to keep training."

Amybeth stepped in. "And she did. Leanne told her side of the story to General Alphus and he made the decision to relieve the Conqueror of his duties, and allowed Leanne to continue her training. She told me all about it after it all happened." She said with a chuckle, looking down to the now beaming Leanne. "She wouldn't stop talking about how she got to talk to you, either, Lady Ryon."

Leanne now snapped her head up to glare at Amybeth, her cheeks blushing as she did so. Emora watched with a small smile, turning to look at Cinder, who seemed to be thinking deeply about something. Noticing that Emora was staring, the Commander turned over and nodded.

"I remember now. My father brought that up to Cindra and I during dinner that evening. It was quite the interesting case." He said, turning his head down to look at Leanne. "My father said you were quite the 'determined looking Squire,' if I recall. And I can tell just by looking at you and what you did today that what he said is true. It's quite the pleasure to finally meet the young Squire he was talking about." Cinder said, his silver eyes flashing for a moment as he gave the young blonde a smile.

"And you're right, Leanne. You did do the right thing. I'm truly happy that everything worked out in your favor. Cinderus wouldn't dare misjudge a situation of your kind." Emora added on.

Leanne's glossy eyes glimmered as she stared up to the Alphas, her eyes no longer spilling tears. She was absolutely thrilled. She brought her small soft hands up to her face to wipe it clean of her tears, giggling gleefully as she bowed down to the Alphas once again. "T-Thank you, Commander Cinder, Lady Ryon! Y-You too, Lady Sato, for—for saving me from… g-getting trampled…" She said, saying that last part with a hint of embarrassment in her voice.

The Shinobi, along with Emora and Cinder, all let laughs of their own. Katsue nodded along, bowing her head down in response to Leanne's initial bow. "I wasn't going to just stand there and let you get hurt, Squire! I'm just glad that you're okay. But I do have to say, you're by far the most interesting Squire I think I've ever met! If I may ask, why were you hiding behind the armor stands in the first place? I assume it's in relation to your friend, here." She said, motioning a hand to Amybeth, who was also smiling as she stood next to her slightly younger best friend.

Leanne composed herself, struggling to get over herself and all the compliments and praise she was getting. After doing so, she cleared her throat and faced the Alphas directly. "W-Well… as I said before, my reasoning for trespassing isn't at all justified, and… a-again, I'd like to take a second to apologize again…" She said, dipping her head low in a small and brief bow, which the Alphas all promptly returned. "But—essentially, I just…"

Leanne paused, looking up to Amybeth, who was looking down to her with big eyes. The blonde inhaled, holding the breath, before letting it flood out from her nostrils in a heavy sigh. "Amybeth had told me that she was getting the opportunity to meet the Alphas face to face on her first day at the Barracks. She told me the date and time of the gathering, and where it was going to be happening. O-Of course, she didn't tell me as to help me break in! She just—shared the details with me."

The Alphas all nodded, prompting Leanne to continue.

"And… well—I…"

Leanne's heart began to pick up its pace again. This was hard, being open about this. Especially for such an emotional girl like herself. She grew embarrassed, her voice rising in pitch and lowering in firmness.

"I wanted… t-to see you again, Lady Ryon." She said, her eyes shining as she looked up to Emora. The blonde Warden paused for a moment, feeling that everyone was looking at her. She didn't want to look back at any of them, and because she was flattered, the Knight grew a bit embarrassed herself, her heart tightening as her eyes darted over Leanne's sincere face and dreamy eyes.

"As if you weren't popular enough already after the martial arts tournament, when you spoke to me face to face, I… I had never felt so encouraged, so determined, so… s-so comforted, ever! I looked up to you, but when I saw you and how hurt you were, I was… I was scared, I was hesitant. I didn't know if I had what it took be a Warden. Because if someone as great as you got that hurt, then… i-imagine what could happen to me!" Leanne explained, subconsciously beginning to pour her heart out in front of everyone.

"But you restored me. You helped me set my mind on becoming a Warden. My goals were set in stone after I spoke to you, and I began to admire you even more than I already did."

Emora's neck began to heat up as she grew more pressured. She really felt like she was on the spot. Sure, it was a good thing, but… she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. She uncrossed her arms and brought one of her hands to her blue neckerchief, adjusting it, her other arm just modestly wrapped around her waist right beneath her bust.

"It didn't stop there, either. After the news got out that the Warborn were forced back into Valkenheim and that the Elios were once again knocked back into their place, all because of your efforts and the rest of the Alphas, and that the entire alliance with the Samurai was due to your interventions for Lady Hakushi's hand, it… it was amazing! It was like everything you and the Alphas did was straight out of a fairy tale! That's why you guys are all so popular. You… you three can't just act like you aren't great." Leanne said with a small smile and a laugh.

Emora, Cinder, and Katsue all exchanged glances, before just doing their own little shrugs and modest gestures. Emora thought back on everything that had happened with a pensive expression, her eyes fogging up a slight little bit as she did so. The Warden soon smiled, though. She knew that a lot of shit had gone down in the past. Of course things were going to be like this now.

"So that's why I broke in. I wanted to see you all. I… I wanted to maybe get the chance to see you again, too, Lady Ryon. To speak to you. But... deep down, I knew I wouldn't be able to. I'm not a trainee just yet. But that doesn't mean that the way I feel is any different. I… I really look up to you. And I owe it to you for helping me find the confidence and dedication to keep training. I also just wanted to see how things would go with Amy, too." She said, turning her head over to look at the ginger.

Amybeth nodded, placing a hand on Leanne's shoulder as she looked to the Alphas. "Leanne trains alongside me under my father. Unfortunately, she falls about a year and half short of being able to enter the Hero Barracks along with me, so… she's sort of still stuck in the Academies."

"Which blows." Leanne added on with a pout. "C-Can I ask you guys if you'll be visiting the next class of trainees at the Hero Barracks, just like you did today? My stomach has been in a knot all day wondering if I'll ever get the opportunity to show you guys what I can do, just like Amybeth did."

The three Alphas exchanged glances yet again, before Emora turned back to Leanne with a small frown. "We were planning to make our visits every other new class. It… would mean that we'd be skipping yours. J-Just to keep things fresh, if that makes sense. It'd get old, if we went for each and every single new class of trainees."

At that moment, Leanne's heart…

Shattered.
