Sona gulped.

It wasn't everyday you come face to face with the leader of a race you've been at war with hundreds of years ago and to the Sitri heiress it was no less terrifying than she'd imagined many times before in her nightmares.

Fortunately for her the governor's attention was not malicious but appeared simply to be the worry a parent felt for a child from the look in his eyes.

"Well child!?" Azazel uncharacteristically urged the young devil to speak.

Sona took a deep breath before telling him what had transpired earlier and the day before.

The governor stood motionless with an unreadable expression throughout Sona's explanation making it all the more nerve wracking for the young heiress.

Eventually she finished after telling Azazel that Sasaki had ran from her after snapping out of what appeared to be some sort of trance and ignored her pleas to remain, she didn't know where he'd gone.

Sona had avoided eye contact for the majority of while she was talking but eventually steeled herself and looked into the governor's eyes once she'd finished only to be surprised at what she found.

Worry, frustration and tears gathering that threatened to fall.

"Uh... Mr governor? Are you alright?" she asked the fallen leader carefully to which she received a sarcastic response typical of the man's reputation.

"My son has gone missing after apparently trying to assault you, what do you think Sitri?" he rhetorically asked but Sona could detect fear within the sarcasm.

Sona was lost for words, she had no idea what to do or say without the man in front of her being the leader of their 'enemies'.

After some silence the governor moved to the door to the student council office.

"Where are you going!?" Sona demanded forgetting who she was talking to in favour of not having Azazel strolling through the halls of Kuoh Academy, simply him, being here in devil territory could be seen as grounds for trespassing leading to war.

The man in question turned slowly to face the Sitri heiress never losing the frown on his face.

"I'm going to find information from where my son was staying since you're clearly incompetent as keeping your students safe" he angrily growled back surprising the young devil with his protective attitude.

Then that line of thought sparked a question Sona had been curious about since she'd found nearly no information about the boy in question.

"Who is Haise Sasaki really?" she asked, the question hung in the air for a moment before the fallen leader responded softly.

"You really don't want to know" was the answer the Sitri heiress was given before the door closed behind Azazel leaving her alone in the room.

She wanted nothing more than to pursue the governor and gain more insight to the student that eluded her, however she saw the look in the fallen leader's eyes when he'd given his answer and such a look wouldn't have been far from what she'd heard in the aftermath of the great war.

Sona shivered at the thought of such a bloody conflict she'd only heard about from her sister as no-one else would dare to share their stories, in favour of not starting something similar, the young heiress decided to allow the governor some time to gather information and calm down before she attempted contact again.

However that didn't mean she wouldn't try other sources in the meantime...

Meanwhile the halls of Kuoh academy fell silent as a tall man sporting a blonde fringe and open crimson trench coat adorned with belts made his way past, the man cared not for the opinions of the students around him, right now he had one destination, the house he'd asked Sasaki to live in with her.

Yes Azazel was very much aware that Yuuma Amano was really the fallen angel Raynare as his spies and own suspicions had lead him to confirm she had gone rogue and was plotting something from the old church in the town with at least three other now rogue Grigori agents.

However she had no idea of his knowledge and was still under the belief that he foolishly trusted her to achieve a fake goal inside the town so when the governor had contacted her and told Raynare that she would be receiving an important guest, she'd accepted it to keep her so called cover intact.

Azazel was beginning to regret asking such a large task from his son, he knew the state he'd been in after that battle and the countless mental scars that probably exceeded the number of physical ones from his past. Through certain connections the governor had been able to turn up only two things concerning Sasaki's past, an organisation that dealt with ghouls inhumanely under a false public image and oddly enough a certain coffee shop.

After a whole year of getting to know Sasaki he'd be a fool to not realise the boy was a ghoul, but it appeared he was a special case as the limited knowledge Azazel had been able to gather on the species was that in their eyes the sclera turned black and the pupil a deep scarlet, usually it was both but there are rumors of one eyed ghouls that are special and apparently more powerful.

To think his son was one of the dominant in a species that had been almost hunted to extinction and possessed the boosted gear with the curses that brought its host, truly the life the boy was living appeared to be a tragedy were the thoughts of Azazel as tears began to pool in his eyes once more but he wiped them away before they could fall.

'No time to get emotional, I need to find Raynare and see if she knows where Sasaki went, hopefully without letting her know i'm aware of her true intentions as it's easier that way but if need be then anything for my son' he thought resolutely as he arrived at the house he'd assigned Sasaki to.

Knocking upon the door firmly three times he took a step back and waited for a response.

After a few minutes the door slowly opened before a head with black hair, violet eyes and red mark on one cheek peeked around the side.

"G-governor!?" she yelped in surprise almost falling over.

Azazel sighed before pushing open the door and entering the house, he didn't have the time nor patience for this.

Raynare was shocked at the sudden appearance of the governor of fallen angels but had played up her surprise to continue fooling him into thinking she was still working towards the fake goal she'd been set by the unaware fallen leader. Once he barged his way inside she shot him a dirty look once his back was facing her before closing the door and putting on a fake smile.

"P-pardon my manners, what can I do for you governor?" Raynare asked sweetly.

Azazel eyed her up and quickly deduced she was putting on a front from her body language and forced tone, however if he could get what he wanted from Raynare without letting her on about him knowing her true intentions then she may overstep in the future and do something big enough to be punished for.

After all this was devil territory and without solid evidence the situation could easily be misconstrued as the governor trying to extract a spy to the devils, whatever he did here, he would have to play his cards carefully.

"Yuuma, may I ask where is the guest I told you would be staying here right now?" he asked politely using her undercover name as to keep up appearances.

A brief flicker of nervousness crept over the younger fallen angel's face, followed by a scowl and then back to a calm facade within seconds, a normal human or even low class supernatural being would have missed it but to a twelve winged fallen leader it was painfully obvious.

"He said he was going out for a bit" she lied.

The governor's expression soured.

"Did he say where, he does have school as well, did you not think it would be a good idea to remind him of that?" he pressed the younger fallen angel.

"I- well- uhhh" Raynare stuttered slowly becoming more and more intimidated by the growing aura emanating from Azazel.

"Where is he?" the governor asked seriously, his stare pierced through Raynare's facade after only a few moments.

"I- I don't know okay!" she stuttered before crying out and collapsing onto a nearby sofa.

Azazel could sense it was the truth and so he retracted his aura somewhat before sitting on the sofa opposite to the younger fallen angel.

"So what happened to him?" the governor asked calmly.

Raynare shuffled awkwardly before responding.

"So the last time I saw him was earlier this morning before he left for school, we were sharing breakfast when suddenly it looked like he was in pain, he clasped his hands to his temples and his face was contorted in pain. I reached out to try and test his temperature when he suddenly slapped me, for a moment his face was blank and then it looked like he'd come back from somewhere else because he saw the red mark on my cheek and acted all apologetic" Raynare recounted the events of the morning.

Azazel looked over the expressions and body language the fallen had exhibited throughout her recollection and concluded that she was telling the truth which worried him quite a bit because as long as the governor had known Sasaki he'd never attacked anything without a good reason.

"So what happened after he apologised?" he asked having an idea of what was coming given his subordinate's previous actions.

"I... told him to leave" she sheepishly admitted with her head hung, it appeared she felt genuine remorse for sending him away.

'Perhaps she's not as devious as I thought' Azazel pondered.

Meanwhile Raynare had lifted her head to meet her superior's gaze.

"Am I in trouble, is he alright?" she asked meekly feeling some genuine concern for the two toned boy after knowing him for less than a day.

The governor met her eyes with an unreadable expression for a moment before answering.

"While I am quite annoyed that you pushed the guest I sent to you after I made it quite clear he was important, I realise that being attacked would be stressful for you so I can't in good mind punish you for losing him. As for the second question, well i'm working on finding that out" he replied sounding somewhat distant while addressing the latter question as though he was deep in thought.

Raynare sighed with relief causing the governor to mentally note her strong reaction to the boy that she barely knew.

"Well since that's all you know, i'll be heading out now, I have some contacts I need to call" Azazel stated before heading towards the front door.

Raynare watched him open the door and was about to let him leave but her deep forgotten conscience got the better of her.

"Governor sir, if I may ask, why is this boy so important?" she asked the fallen leader curiously.

Azazel stopped and turned slowly to face the younger fallen, his face was the picture of a worried parent.

"Because he's my son" was all he needed to say before walking out and closing the door behind him leaving a stunned and slightly guilty Raynare to herself.

A slap echoed around the otherwise empty house.

'Don't be stupid, who cares if the little shit is his son, I still have a mission to complete that will get me the recognition and rank I deserve' she thought vehemently, however her expression wasn't free of uncertainty the more she thought upon it.

Vernazza, Italy

A blonde haired girl in nun's clothing was wandering around the streets of the town absent mindedly making her way to the church on the hill.

'I can't believe my power hurt him, I thought it healed people not cause them pain' she thought, her mind swimming with guilt.

She could hear church bells ringing in the distance and moved towards them subconsciously like a magnet. As she drew near to the base of the hill she was suddenly broken out of her trance by a faint moan of pain.

Her ears lead her to the source and she laid her eyes upon a crumpled black mess that honestly took her a moment to realise it was a human being.

Asia rushed over to the injured person's side and instinctively held out her hands to use her power before hesitating when her thoughts returned to the incident from earlier. The pained cry that erupted from the poor broken boy in her care had shaken her confidence quite a bit in her ability to heal, but her sense of morality wouldn't allow her to leave the person in front of her in pain.

A bright green glow appeared around her hands that reached out towards the injured human, many cuts across his abdomen began to seal and as the main source of blood loss and pain lessened so did their moans.

The figure slowly turned themselves towards Asia and she got a good look of their face, it was young, possibly not much older than her but masculine in nature.

Her healing power kept working to close up every last wound on the young man's body and after a few moments Asia sighed in relief as the last of his wounds were healed and the blood was wiped away, nothing bad had happened this time.

Unfortunately for her, two things happened within a few seconds of each other. The first was a set of jet black bat wings erupting from the 'human' she'd just healed and one of the higher ups at the church noticed her and had come to say hello.

The older man in priest attire had taken one look at Asia using her powers to heal a devil and frowned deeply before returning to the church hurriedly saying nothing to the now very worried girl as she watched the devil she'd just healed, a creature of sin, fly away past the holy church with a grin on its face.

Truly sin felt like it was crawling across her back and she shivered.

Suddenly the doors to the church burst open and the priest from before marched down the hill with countless exorcists behind him, the large group stopped a fair distance away from Asia not wanting to take any chances with the witch that could heal devils.

Asia looked over them with fear and sadness once see saw the hatred in their eyes, not a single one of them appeared sympathetic and now they'd seen her heal a devil she was a heretic in their eyes.

Through the tears now running down her cheeks she saw a fellow nun that had been friends with her ever since she'd been assigned to the church after awakening her powers over a decade ago, now she saw only disgust in the young woman's face as she stared back.

Her lip quivered and more tears came as the priest shouted the words that would sever her from everything she knew.

"Asia Argento, as the holy priest of this church I hereby excommunicate you for the sin of healing and affiliating with a devil, the punishment for such is death, do you have any final words?" the priest asked with disgust and conviction in his tone.

"I-i'm sorry father" was all the tearful girl choked out, her hands clasped over her chest and eyes shut tight, she didn't want to die but nothing could save her now so she'd accept death with grace for the start of her repentance.

The priest merely nodded signalling the four exorcists directly behind him to encircle her in a diamond formation. The exorcists did as ordered, their tall statures towering over the poor nun blocking out all the light that had reached through her closed eyes.

A wave of his staff was all that was needed for the four to raise their light swords into the air in preparation and ignite them.

Asia heard the swords crackle to life almost blinding her with their artificial light even with her eyes tightly clamped shut, she tensed herself and waited for the end, seconds felt like minutes, then hours.

Suddenly she felt very cold as though something truly monstrous was sucking the life out of the very air she breathed, Asia yelped in surprise when she heard the gut wrenching sounds of human bodies being ripped and torn and pulled and crushed. The cracking of fingers was the chilling sound that echoed throughout it all as she was splattered with something warm and sticky, even all this didn't allow Asia to open her eyes, she was petrified.

After what seemed like and eternity, the warm light from the sun bathed her trembling form once more, first from the right, then the left, followed by the back finally the front, she opened her eyes and saw a boy she never expected to see again.

"H-Haise!?" she gasped her mind reeling as she took in his appearance.

His usually black and white hair had been coated crimson with blood though she swore there seemed to be less black than before, his clothes were also caked in the awful smelling liquid and his hands seemed to be much redder than skin usually should be even with the horrible mess upon them.

It was after she'd taken in his appearance that she realised the warm sticky liquid she saw was what she felt splattering upon her moments ago, her eyes drifted down to see her nun's outfit covered with blood and her hair felt awfully sticky as well.

At this point her mind couldn't take anymore and she vomited the contents of her stomach from the awful smell before passing out and being caught by Sasaki who jumped to her after seeing her reaction. The bloodstained boy gently lowered Asia to the clean grass at the base of the hill under the warm sun before turning to face the priest and exorcists who'd just witnessed the most vicious murders of their lives.

To say he was angry would be a vast understatement, Asia had been using her gift to heal an injured devil so what? It was clear that her heart was far too big for this world but he was going to make sure that she was the only other here to stay in it today.

His left pupil flared crimson and his sclera black as night, with a crack of his right index finger and a crazed grin, Ken Kaneki asked a final question to the people of the church.

"Would you die for me?"

He was upon them before anyone could even consider the implications of his final words.

Four blood red pulsating tendrils burst from his lower back and skewered themselves through the nearest exorcists that never even had a chance to react before they fell to the floor in several pieces.

The rest of the exorcists rushed in front of the priest as the aforementioned holy man began to retreat with a couple guarding him on the way to the church.

Kaneki charged directly into the group of at least ten exorcists receiving minor cuts as he did so that healed almost as fast as they were made, once he'd gotten to the center of the group, he crouched down and tensed as the tendrils all evaporated before twin tails like that of a centipede burst forth from his lower back accompanied by a horrifying dark purple half mask with a beak forming over the right side of his face.

By this point Sasaki had no control and all he could do was watch as the twin tails slashed and gutted his opponents mercilessly, one by one they all screamed in agony after being impaled or slashed across the throat and in the end they all died drowning in blood that stained most of the pavement around the hill upon which the church rested.

As the last moans faded, Kaneki turned his attention towards the hill where blood was slowing trickling onto the outer edges staining the luscious green grass crimson. The priest from before took one look back and by the time his vision cleared there was only half of what there used to be as a sharp object had driven into his left eye completely annihilating it beyond repair.

"Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" came the agonised scream as the holy man clutched both hands over the empty socket, blood leaking from underneath and dripping onto the marble of the floor inside the entrance of the church.

Licking his lips, Kaneki flew towards the injured priest intending for a nice snack until he was blown back by the two exorcists guarding him.

The boy shook his head as some of the blood from earlier came off showing the pure snow white hair underneath. Kaneki could tell the two guarding the priest were stronger than the rest but he didn't care.

'PaY... tHeY nEeD tO pAy!' were the unstable thoughts of a being that hadn't been sane for a long time.

The mindless beast charged forward once more with double the intensity, the twin tails lashed out violently against the guards who blocked them with some effort. Kaneki sent a flying kick towards the left guard who proceeded to catch it smirking but it was quickly wiped off his face when the boy spun himself around breaking his own leg and to roundhouse the exorcist with his other.

The guard stumbled back and barely saw the monster's leg grotesquely correct itself before his vision went black from a powerful strike to his temple. The other guard lunged at the white haired boy while he was distracted and landed a hard hit to his right knee causing Kaneki to buckle before being smashed over the head and sent to the ground so hard the impact broke his nose.

The guard turned towards the moaning priest only to have his head sliced off his body, it rolled down the hill leaving a bloody trail as Kaneki stood up and wiped his nose with his sleeve. The body of the guard seemed to defy gravity for a moment but eventually slumped to the floor leaving just a terrified priest an insane teenager.

"Better pray for a miracle" Kaneki chuckled madly.

Unfortunately for the white haired teen just such a thing appeared with a bang sending painful spasms down his right leg, he looked down to see a bullet hole through his knee and buckled once more soon after.

A similarly coloured haired individual walked around Kaneki's side and stood next to the priest who seemed a little uncomfortable from their appearance. The man was dressed in exorcist clothing but possessed a mad grin and bloodshot red eyes that weren't unlike the white haired ghoul's.

"Looks like we've got a crazy one, name's Freed Sellzen, welcome to the club" he grinned sadistically, his still smoking gun aimed at Kaneki's forehead.

The latter merely growled at Freed's introduction and commanded his twin centipede tails to strike the one standing in the way of his meal.

Freed merely laughed before dodging the tails with ease and roundhouse kicking the knee he'd shot earlier expecting Kaneki to falter but the boy simply glared at Freed before counter attacking with his own punch into the crazed man's gut sending him reeling as he coughed blood.

"W-what the!? How can you have this strength and why the fuck didn't my kick work?" Freed screamed.

With an insane grin to rival his opponent's Kaneki uttered a monotone response.

"You think after all i've been through something like that would hurt?"

Freed widened his eyes slightly but dropped back into a battle stance before pulling out a light sword with his free hand.

"Then let's dance asshole!" he yelled foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog, he charged towards Kaneki firing blindly.

The ghoul attempted to dance around the bullets with the finesse he used to possess but a year without fighting and the injuries sustained from Arima had taken their toll and he felt the impact of two shots, one to his left leg and one into his stomach putting him off balance and leaving him open to Freed's slash across his chest that sent him to his knees.

Kaneki growled as his body protested against further movement, the problem was that while he had a high pain tolerance, his body could only take so much and had been weakened from the events that made him into Haise Sasaki. A year without fighting or feeling pain didn't help.

The white haired ghoul managed to claw back to his feet and sent his twin tails whirling around Freed who smirked in amusement before using his light sword to slash one through the middle.

Kaneki let out a pained screech that sounded nowhere near human and pushed himself forward raising his right arm and throwing a punch aimed for his opponent's stomach. Freed began to dodge but realised too late that it was a feint, Kaneki redirected his fist upwards and landed a devastating uppercut that launched Freed into the air and through the doors of the church.

The crazed former exorcist pushed himself to his feet slower than he would've liked, that attack had knocked him off balance and left a ringing in his ears, a frown could be seen on his face as he analysed his opponent.

Truthfully Freed believed he could fight this creature to a standstill but the look in his abnormal eye that didn't seem human scared the former exorcist and that wasn't something that happened everyday. However when faced with the question of the state he'd be left in when the dust settled, he made a very rare logical decision to remove himself from this situation, consequences be damned.

The question was how in the hell he was going to distract the monster slowly closing in on him, then it clicked as Freed remembered the blonde haired girl he'd seen at the base of the hill.

"Hey little monster, that was a nice piece of ass outside, she yours?" he asked in a disgusting tone.

This only served to make the monster before him growl louder, his facial features behind the half mask somehow becoming even more feral. However this was exactly what Freed had accounted for, the vile former exorcist could be surprisingly tactical when it came to something that benefited him.

"Oh yeah she's definitely yours, have you done anything to that sweet body yet? No? Hahahaha, what a fucking virgin, i'd have fucked her seven ways from Sunday already. I bet the bitch likes the weird shit, all the quiet ones are the kinkiest after all" he spouted, his tone filled with lust as he licked his lips.

A mighty roar erupted from the beast before him as Kaneki shot towards the former exorcist with his twin tails extended on a mission to personally gouge out his eyes.

'Almost too easy' was the thought that crossed Freed's mind briefly.

Throwing his light sword like a boomerang, the former exorcist also charged towards the approaching ghoul and as they were about to collide he ducked under the white haired teen's punch and slid under the boy so his back was facing the exit and the monster was now near the remains of the altar that had been demolished by the attack.

Freed taunted the ghoul once more distracting Kaneki just long enough to forget about the light sword now sailing towards his back. The teen couldn't react in time with the blood lust interfering with his senses and screeched in pain as his twin tails were sliced off by the spinning blade before it returned to its wielder.

Now Freed could have escaped right then, the monster before him was in pain and distracted while the exit was just a few steps behind him. However the former exorcist got greedy when he thought of the beautiful blonde nun outside.

'If I take this thing down, there's no one apart from that priest to stop me having that nun all to myself' he thought devilishly before turning back to the monster and lifting his gun.

Kaneki whipped around to face Freed and screeched inhumanly before charging towards him even faster than he was before. This caught Freed off guard as he fired wildly at the rapidly moving from getting closer and closer, a hail of screeching and bursts of wind surrounded him for what seemed like forever until suddenly it all became quiet but there was a numb pain coming from his left arm.

Correction, where his arm used to be...

"Aaaahhhhhhh!" Freed wailed as he clutched the bleeding stump at his shoulder, his gaze fell on the monster that had done this waiting at the ruined altar staring at him like a piece of juicy meat as a new emotion made itself known to the former exorcist.

Fear.

'I definitely should have ran' he sweat dropped briefly ignoring the pain and blood spilling from his wound as he drew his gun once more.

Kaneki screeched an unrecognisable volley of inhuman sounds once more as his twin tails could be seen slowly reforming.

Freed knew if that thing got its main weapon back he was completely screwed but he was all out of other options after correctly deducing the light bullets wouldn't have the necessary effect on this monster to bring it down or at least not quick enough. With that thought, he holstered his gun and began to think.

The ungodly sound of the monster as his tails slowly returned, as they slowly inched closer to piercing his skull, drove Freed to rack his brain harder than ever before.

Finally he remembered the plan he'd thought of before that damn thing took his arm, it was truly his own greed and selfish ambition that resulted in that outcome, he could see that now. However there was no more time, the twin tails jutting from the back of the monster were almost complete and he didn't stick around to see the sharp ends form as he was already dashing out the doors and down the hill outside.

"nOt GeTtInG aWaY!" Came a demonic sounding garbled voice as Freed felt the air behind him begin to ripple from its movement but it didn't matter, he was there.

An electrical crack echoed around the environment as Freed quickly drew and activated his light sword before placing it over the unconscious Asia's throat having grabbed her sleeping form from behind.

Kaneki froze, he didn't understand why, the voices in his head was telling him to ignore this girl to kill and maim and eviscerate indiscriminately. However when he looked upon the small girl's angelic face, he felt a feeling he couldn't describe, he felt... clarity?

He tried to ignore it, to strike them both down for allowing his meal to escape, but his body wouldn't listen. The more he stared at the face of Asia Argento, the weaker he felt, as thought he was drifting off into a warm and pleasant... dream.

Then suddenly the voices stopped screaming, his mind was empty, filled only by the silence of a being that had finally gained something other than hatred. That was until one voice softly spoke to him.

Let's rest a bit...

With that one phrase, Ken Kaneki fell asleep once more.

Hey everyone!

Now before anything else I do have some apologies I want to get out there surrounding the chapter, if you enjoyed it then it kinda makes them mute but I wanted to cover for everyone since I know some people may not like this chapter.

First of all this took way too long for me to get done and i'm sorry for the wait. I put this off for a good few weeks before even beginning the writing process because I wanted to get the plot sorted out, my notes for these stories are getting way too long haha :P

Second, this was my first attempt at a more dynamic chapter with the fight scenes and i'm aware that it's still not very good but I tried my best to make it interesting and I can only apologise for my lack of skill in that attempt.

Third and finally, I have watched the Tokyo Ghoul anime but not read the manga so while I do know some of the major story arcs from reading wikis and watching explanations, i'm no where near perfect so at some point maybe even already in this chapter or story so far, i'm going to make mistakes with the lore and meanings I try to apply. I only ask anyone with an opinion on this to help me grow further by informing me via PM or in a review of my mistake :)

So having listed all of those, if anyone has any questions or thoughts I welcome them all and until my next update, have a wonderful life!
