Terumi looked at himself in the mirror and sighed, today was the day. The UA Sports Festival. He went about his preparations and went out the door, it was going to be an interesting day.
(stadium)
Terumi had been right earlier when he thought the day would be interesting, 'holy shit, that's a lot of people, and there are even more watching live', his mouth is set in a grimace, he wasn't used to this much attention. He'd have to deal with it if he wanted to win though. He walks in with the rest of class 1A as all of the first years are introduced, holding his head high and trying not to crack under the pressure.
When everyone was lined up in the center, Midnight (who insisted he call her Aunt Nem) made an announcement, "Will the top scorer of the entrance exam please step forward? It's time for the pledge!" Terumi mentally kicked himself for forgetting, 'just great, I have to make a fucking speech!' He walks forward, trying to seem as nonchalant as possible while internally panicking and trying to come up with something to say. He cobbles something together and takes a deep breath as he steps up to the mic. "I pledge, that today's first year stage, will bring a spectacle like no other year has. What you will witness today will be a sight to behold, something to remember, something to spark hope about the future of heroics. Now then, I hope you enjoy the show", he smiles and walks away as the crowd cheers. He internally sighs in relief, 'I can't believe I actually pulled that off!' After the cheering dies down there's some muttering amongst the crowd about this year's participants. How some of them have powerful quirks, look interesting, and why is that one wearing a cloak over his gym uniform? (Just assume Terumi has it on at all times, makes things easier)
Midnight steps forward, "A rousing speech! Now, It's time for the first event!" A holographic display appears and begins cycling through the options faster than anyone can see them. "Do you think you can guess what it is? Well I already know! It's-", the display stops, "-an obstacle race! Line up in front of that door!" All the students move into position and Terumi begins thinking about the challenge while the rules are explained. (basically just stay on the course, but you already knew that right?) He immediately notices the issue of space, the tunnel is too small to accommodate all of them at once, so he hatches a plan to circumvent that. The countdown begins, "3, 2, 1! Go!", Midnight cracks her whip.
The students begin running and immediately begin to get squished together and shoved around, meanwhile Terumi armors up and leaps to dig the armor's claws into the ceiling. He begins to move forwards as quickly as he can, hoping to snatch first early. His plan is further helped by Todoroki's exiting of the tunnel, as he leaves behind a large portion of ice to slow and even trap opponents. The majority of 1A is ready though and all manage to escape the ice, but they aren't the only ones. Some students from other courses, most especially the secondary hero course, avoid the trap as well. 'No matter, I can still break into first, even with all of them gunning for it.' He falls from the ceiling onto the ice and quickly schemes up a way to move forward on it.
Snake Boi decides to take a bit of an unorthodox approach. His armor has sharp spike like protrusions as the toes, and the claws I mentioned earlier. So Terumi gets on all fours, digs the claws and spikes into the ice, and runs like that for extra traction. This spooks some of the people in front of him (none of them from 1A) as they weren't expecting a large armored figure to come charging after them like a wolf ready to tear their throats out. The surprise factor and speed boost granted by the traction his plan gained him allow him to effortlessly move up in place and catch up to Todoroki, the current leader of the pack.
Mic is sure to announce this to everyone, as he is commentating on the event. "And would you look at that folks! An interesting, if a little unusual, play from class 1A's Yūki Terumi! That kid will be making waves as a hero, I'm telling you now!" Meanwhile, Aizawa is watching the event intently.
Eventually the ice runs out and Terumi begins to run upright, straight towards the field of robots ahead. He pays them little mind and destroys any that get in his way, instead attempting to snatch first from our favorite Zuko impersonator. Said Half-N-Half boy has frozen a zero point robot in place to make a path, Which Terumi is happy to follow. "I wouldn't do that if I were you, I froze it in an unstable position", and the robot begins to fall. Terumi pays this no mind and forcibly carves a path through the colossal machine as it falls towards him, moving forward with no momentum lost.
Todoroki takes notice of this, 'He won't go down easy. I can't let him win though, not this time.' The peppermint man launches another volley of ice in hopes to slow Terumi down, but to no avail. The snake eyed teen rips through it and keeps going. There's a bit of back and forth between the two before the next obstacle is reached, a giant chasm with a few platforms scattered here and there all connected by ropes. Todoroki and a few other that were keeping up have to stop to think on how to cross, but Terumi surges forward and begins running across the ropes.
It is at this moment that a certain ninja themed hero takes an interest in our focus character. He begins watching the event with a bit more intrigue.
After Terumi's lead taking move the others start taking more risks, make more gambles that could gain them a lot more ground should they pay off. Todoroki uses his ice to glide across the ropes, Iida uses his engines to push him for ward while he does a balancing act, and Bakugou uses his explosion to attempt to fly over the pit. The others are dangerously close to catching up as Terumi reaches the other side and makes a mad dash to the last obstacle, which he discovers is a literal minefield. He decides he'll have to slow down for this as to not blow himself up, but he still tries to move as quickly as possible through the mines with Todoroki and Bakugou practically on his heels.
When the leading three are most of the way through the minefield, they're greeted with the sound of an explosion, louder than any shown today. They turn back to see a certain viridian haired teen, Terumi recalled his name as being Izuku Midoriya, hurtling toward them in an arc that would place him in front of them. Upon seeing this the three in front all come to the same conclusion and begin racing towards the finish at a breakneck pace. Todoroki uses his ice to create a safe path, Bakugou uses his explosions to boost him forwards, ad Terumi uses his energy to set off mines behind him. Attempting to halt anyone else's advance. As they catch up to where Midoriya is going to land, he uses Todoroki and Bakugou's shoulders as a springboard to slam down a heavy metal plate he was carrying, setting off a mine and launching himself into first place.
After this the three others stop caring about anyone else's place and begin gunning for Midoriya, attempting to make him a non-variable in the end decision of who finishes in first. Their attempts are futile however, as he crosses back into the arena first, with Terumi, Todoroki, and Bakugou following behind in that order. Everyone else follows shortly behind and then the results are announced, as well as the fact that only the first 42 participants would be making it to the next round, this resulted in several sighs of relief from people who thought they hadn't made it, as well as noises of disappointment from those who fell just short of the cut off.
Terumi grimaced as his armor melted away, 'Second huh? Well at least I'm not last. I've got to hand it to that Midoriya kid, he's creative. Didn't even use his quirk and he took first.' The Snake-like boy's face darkens over, 'he won't be holding onto it for long though.' Terumi approaches the center, awaiting the announcement of the next event.
A/N: Would ya look at that, another update the next day. I'm feeling pretty inspired, so I'm hoping to keep this train going and get as much done as I can, while still providing something that's up to snuff. Well, see you around.
