AN: So here we go
I have multiple things which I want to discuss in this….chapter? Update? Extended authors note? Whatever, call it what you want.
Number one on my list is talking about what I want to change. The biggest changes are going to be centred on chapters 2 and 8. Chapter 2 is just a cringe fest, for me personally at least. And I don't want this to become one of them "Percy gets abused and finds solace in Artemis" stories, so most if not all of that chapter is on the chopping block. Chapter 8, as I said in the last chapter I believe, will be pushed back by a couple chapters because Artemis and Percy became friends way to quickly for my tastes, and the end of chapter 7 will also get a minor rewrite for the same reason. Most of the other chapters will also be getting a small touch up, but nothing really that changes the entire story like 2 and 8.
Number two on my list is another small explanation of some crap. When I began this story, I had little to no knowledge of Greek myths besides that which were put in canon. Honestly, I had no idea what the hell I was doing, and that is the cause of most of the rewrites now. I just saw a story that was unfinished, saw nobody was going to finish it anytime soon, and decided to finish it myself. Now that I know where I want to go, I am seeing stuff that I need to either delete or rewrite in order for this story to follow a logical plot line.
Number three is a reaction to a review I got. I am purposely not saying the name of the person who said it because that would be basically giving them a shoutout and I said I won't give a shoutout to anyone (for better or for worse) , and the person who wrote it will certainly know that this is mainly addressed to them. And for those people that are saying "Well, isn't talking about their comment just the same as shouting them out?" probably, but can you think of a way to reply to that comment without indirectly shouting them out?
So lets react to the comment. You're first point sir (or ma'am), I disagree with. I soundly reject the idea that gods are not actually male or female, but rather just assume a male/female form. Mainly because I can find little evidence to support that claim within mythology, save independent instances like Zeus and Callisto, but even that was debatable due to the fact that Zeus changed his appearance to that of Artemis, and the sex change was just a side effect. If the gods had no solid gender, why would the Greeks have called Artemis the "Goddess of Maidens" or Poseidon the "God of the Sea" instead of just "The Divine Being of Maidens/the Sea"?
Your second point sir/ma'am, I also disagree with. While it is true that there is no solid evidence in mythology that Artemis was a man-hater instead of just having extreme distrust of men, I would argue that it couldn't exactly be to far from the truth either. She was born in ancient Greece and granted the domain of maidens, and those who have knowledge of ancient Greek culture will not doubt confirm the fact that women (and in particular virgin women) were often used a bargaining chips. That certainly wouldn't have sat well with her domains. Add to that her experience with Orion and the multiple hunters she lost due to rapists, and I do not think she would exactly be fond of males.
You mentioned that in your mind Percy was unwilling to fight a woman because that would they were to weak to fight him. On the contrary what Percy is unwilling to do is hurt a woman without reason, regardless of whether or not the woman would go on to win said fight.
Now you are of course entitled to your opinion, as Deutschland ist natürlich auch ein Republik, and being a republic you have freedom of thought. I am not here to change your mind on this, or anything at all. Greek mythology is also a religion, so each person can and will make up their own mind on different topic, just as they do in modern religions. If you still have strong feelings on this topic, I encourage you to write your own story based on this, and actually I would love to see how it would turn out.
For those that are thinking "What it really necessary that Flitmer post all this stuff about one comment?" the answer is, probably not. But it allows me to go in depth about my reasoning behind the stuff in this story. It was also not my intention to single this person out, and I promise this won't happen again unless I have reason to react to someone's comment
So, to close this long winded talk about nothing, I will say that if anyone sees something that they find debatable within my stories, don't be afraid to shoot me a pm about it. I love debating stuff with people, and I appreciate other peoples opinions, especially on my own work. Also shoot me a pm if you want to talk about anything else regarding my stories, whether it be you want to see certain characters, plot lines or anything else.
Again, no updates for a bit because I am sifting through my old work and redoing it. But if you want, check back and see what's been changed! I hope the whole process will be done by the 25th of February. 2021 for those in the future. That's it from me today, and enjoy the rest of you're week/weekend
