Author note: So, as I think I explained in an AN I am using elements of game and anime, and my own thoughts on a subject. Lots of things will be changed from the cannon universe, most importantly this is the case in regards to moves. Move description comes from what I saw in the anime, what was described on Bulbapedia and on the pokdex app that I have downloaded on my phone. However, some moves I decided 'fuck it' and came up with my own description: I keep track of such using an excel document so I don't end up contradicting myself. For example, Confusion does actual health damage instead of just secondary health damage with a rebounding or failed move.

This reason for this author's note, is to explain something about Pikachu and his move pool. There are several electric type attacks that can be learnt: spark, thunder and thunderbolt. I'm my story, these three attacks are evolutions of each other. Spark is stage one, a light amount of electricity which doesn't travel more than five inches from the user's body. Then, we have thunder which is several bolts of lightning going from the user to the opponent and can-do moderate damage to a Pokemon of equal level. Then, we have thunderbolt which sends a large amount of electrical energy into the sky and then slamming down on the opponent doing a large amount of damage with a high chance of a critical hit. Considering the low level of the pidge that was being faced, a thunderbolt would have been enough to severely injure and possible kill it, while the thunder simple knocked it out with short term nerve damage. All electrical attacks have the possibility of causing paralysis, but the stronger the attack, the higher the chance when facing a Pokemon of equal strength.

Author note 2: So, I hope that cleared this up. If you want me to explain, in more detail than what I include in the story, any changes to moves please leave me a review and I'll explain in the next chapter, but I will attempt to include said explanations in chapter like I did when describing Zen Headbutt, Confusion, Psychic and Hypnosis which are all moves I made minor changes too.

Author Note 3: So, chapter 14 kind of wrote itself. I am now working on chapter 15 which is facing the water gym. But I am also writing four other Pokemon stories and I am trying to make sure that things didn't end up overlapping within the stories dies all of them covering similar time zones. Beldum and it's evolved forms, are my favorite steel type Pokemon and so they appear in at least one of my other stories.

For now, enjoy Chapter Ten.

Chapter 10: Arc 2: Route 1

Since they had spent so long talking, Harry decided that it would be best to camp in the clearing they had found, which Ash agreed with. They weren't rushed for time. In theory they could spend a month in each of the badge cities, and up to two weeks travelling between them and still have time before they needed to apply for the Indigo Conference. From Viridian City, which was only a day's travel away, it would only take them four days of continuous walking to get through Viridian Forest in order to reach either Pewter City or Cerulean city (depending on which path they take).

While he set up his own Pokemon to begin their physical training (choosing not to do their moves that night since he hadn't been able to do physical training that morning), he sat down with Ash and Pikachu and discussed the different features of the Poke-dex, including the detail that allowed Ash to view uploaded videos about the Pokemon he had caught demonstrating different moves and a description of those moves. Then there was the note section, which Harry encouraged Ash to use to plan his training pattern with Pikachu – focusing on increasing Pikachu's speed, his electrical charge and the strength of his tail.

"How can I help Pikachu increase the strength of his tail?" Ash frowned.

"The most common way is to have Pikachu hit the ground or dirt with his tail repeatedly. After a while, Pikachu will start instinctively channelling energy into his tail until he learns Iron tail. Of course, it's easier if Pikachu has had experience with steel type energy, but it isn't necessary." Harry explained.

"Pikachu, have you experienced steel type energy?" Ash asked the Pokemon that had gotten comfortable on his head.

"Pik, pika." Pikachu shook his head in the negative.

"Well then, we'll just have to work extra hard." Ash announced loudly.

}(((((* Morning*((((({

Harry woke with the sun the next morning. The camp fire that he'd lit the night before to make his and Ash's dinner had gone out, and Ash was still soundly asleep with Pikachu sharing his pillow. Kirlia was also still asleep, accept he was curled into Harry's side within his sleeping bag. Moving carefully so as to not wake his friend, Harry slipped out of the sleeping bag. Stretching in the cool morning air, he set about adding more fire wood to their fire pit since he needed to let the wood burn off before he started cooking.

Once the fire was going, he headed behind a tree in order to get dressed into his workout gear instead of the clothes he'd designated 'night wear' (which was essentially some jogging pants and a long-sleeved shirt because you never know when you need to quickly pack up camp and move). Now ready to face the day, Harry went to wake Kirlia and released Torchic from his Pokeball.

"Nooo." Kirlia moaned, trying to burry himself into Harry's sleeping bag.

"Come on, you need to learn the new limits of your body." Harry looped his arm around Kirlia's shoulders and dragged him out of the sleeping bag.

"You're evil." Kirlia sighed in defeated, shaking the sleeping bag off the top of his legs and standing.

"Come on, the suns up, we're wasting daylight ours." Torchic said through the link that Harry had automatically set up when he released her from her Pokeball.

"NO, not another one." Kirlia complained in dismay, staring at Torchic like she had mortally offended him, which sent Torchic into a giggling and chirping fit.

"Okay, first thing we're doing is running around the clearing. Torchic, please set a pace that you believe you can do for thirty minutes. Kirlia, start at the pace you could achieve as a Ralts. If you believe you can go faster and maintain that pace, do so." Harry gave his orders as he led them all to the starting tree that he'd marked out the night before. "Okay, ready?"

"Yes." Torchic announced, bouncing on her one leg full of excitement and energy.

"I suppose so." Kirlia sighed forlornly.

"Okay, lets… go." Harry announced glancing at his watch to check the time. Kirlia was the fasted of the three of them, going around six seconds per minute faster than Harry. Torchic was the slowest, her smaller legs and lack of training acting against her.

From the running, Harry had Torchic picking up one of his five-pound weights with both her beak and her feet, alternatively. Kirlia and himself where going through his fighting forms, with Harry teaching more structured stances to Kirlia that he hadn't been able to manage as a Ralts. Then they moved through push ups and sit ups, and used a branch to do some chin-ups, while Torchic was set to running a slalom between some rocks that he and Kirlia had set up using their psychic powers. The final exercise that the three of them did together was a sprinting exercise. Between two sets of trees, they ran as fast as they could without using Quick Attack. Harry took note of Kirlia's new base line, and Torchic's present baseline so he knew if they got faster.

Giving his Pokemon a Sitrus berry each in order to help restore some energy and let them have some water. Once they had taken a five-minute break, he started levitating the bouncy balls he had packed (he'd packed two bags, each of which contained fifty balls).

"Oh no." Krilia's eyes widened when he saw the bouncy balls. "Torchic, don't let the balls hit you."

Throwing the bouncy balls at his Pokemon served multiple purposes. The first was to get them dodging, the second was to make them more aware of their surroundings since Harry never released his psychic hold on the balls which meant they could come at them from any direction, and holding and throwing that many balls helped develop Harry's psychic abilities. When he'd first started this training exercise, he'd only been able to move the one ball but now he could hold twenty-five of them at once.

Overall, Harry spent two and a half hours training his Pokemon before he called them to a stop and led them to the small river that was running not far from the camp. The sun had finally risen properly, and it was now seven in the morning. Harry jumped in the water with Kirlia and they both quickly washed down (including the clothes Harry was wearing), before Harry levitated a small ball of water out and grabbed a cloth from his bag so he could wash Torchic down. Because she was a fire type Pokemon it was bad for her health to be put straight in the river. Wetting a cloth and using that to clean her feathers every few days would help increase her resistance to water but that would be a slow process.

Changed into his normal clothes for the day, Harry led his Pokemon back to the camp where he woke Ash and Pikachu up so they could help him make their breakfast. How neither of them had woken from the sounds of him and his Pokemon working out, Harry didn't know.

}(((((* On the road*((((({

While walking towards Viridian, Harry started testing Ash's knowledge of Pokemon starting with the things he had learnt during his first year at the academy. Instead of just having Ash memorize information about different breeds of Pokemon and typing, Harry had Ash put that information within a battle situation since he seemed to learn best about Pokemon when thought of in such a manner.

While they were walking, Ash had Pikachu charging up electrical power for as long as he could and then releasing it in either a Thunder shock or a Thunder bolt. When Pikachu started getting tired from doing such, Ash had Pikachu stop and instead had him walking down beside them instead of getting a free ride on his shoulder/head.

The path they were taking led to the River, which they followed along. Ash wanted to capture a water type Pokemon, but he didn't have a fishing rode he could use so he had to hope that they came across one of the Poli-line (the most common land bound water Pokemon in their area) on the shore that he could challenge to a battle. Unfortunately for Ash, they came to the point in their path where they needed to cross the river and continue on their path through the forest.

"Where's the bridge?" Ash demanded, looking over the water to the path on the other side.

"There isn't one." A red-headed girl shouted from the other shore. She had a fishing line in hand, and judging by the bag, blanket and bike, she had been there for a little while.

"Do you know what happened to it?" Harry asked, examining one of the posts which used to hold the rope bridge.

"A trainer came through last night and cut it down." The girl shrugged. "I shouted at them to stop, but they simple laughed at me and left."

"Did you report it?" Harry asked with a frown. Destruction of one of the league designated routes was met with quite a large fine.

"No, I've not headed back to Viridian yet. I was going to head out today but…" she glanced at her fishing line with a frown. "I've not been able to catch anything yet."

"Is there another bridge?" Ash asked.

It was Harry who answered that questioned since he had studied the map of the route, he wanted to take over the last month. "There is another bridge about half a days walk away. But that means we'll have to double back on ourselves."

"So, we'll have to swim across." Ash bent his knees to jump into the water. Moments before he jumped, Harry managed to capture Pikachu in his Psychic powers and lowered the electric mouse Pokemon into his arm as Ash splashed into the water.

"I figured you'd like to stay dray." Harry told Pikachu in amusement.

"Pik, pika." Pikachu nodded his head rapidly, allowing the electric energy he had been about to use to shock Harry to dissipate.

Ash swam to the other side and climbed out, shaking himself to get rid of some of the water.

"Aren't you coming across?" He asked confused. "And why did you take Pikachu?"

"Electric type Pokemon don't particularly like water, especially if you haven't trained them to get used to it." Harry sighed.

"Oh, right. You'll have to teach me how to build his resistance." Ash rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Sorry Pikachu."

"Pikachu, could you just hold onto my pack for a little bit." Harry asked the electric mouse, lifting him closer to his shoulder. Pikachu jumped to his shoulder and moved to his backpack and held on. "Torchic, I need you to return." Harry unclipped the correct Pokeball and returned his fire type. "Kirlia, you think you've got enough control?"

"Of course." Kirlia nodded. "I think I've got a hold of my new power levels."

"Teleport or levitate?" Harry asked, leaving it up to his friend.

"Teleport, I want to see if I can take a Pokemon at the same time as you." Kirlia decided after a moment.

"Alright. Pikachu, you're going to want to hold on nice and tight." Harry warned the electric type as he reached out and took Kirlia's hand.

Kirlia's red eyes briefly glowed purple before their world dissolved into purple and blue swirls for a moment before they reappeared on the other side of the lake. The moment the world had regained it's true colours, Pikachu jumped to the ground and shook out his fur which was standing on end.

"PIKA PI" Pikachu said, clearly affronted by the feeling of teleport.

"How did you do that?" Ash asked, wide eyed.

"Teleport. It's a move that most psychic type Pokemon can learn. The stronger the psychic type, like Alakazam and Gallade, the further the Pokemon can teleport." Harry explained in amusement before turning to the red head. "Would you like to travel with us to Viridian? Since you were the one to see the vandal, you're going to have to be the one to make the report to Officer Jenny."

"I suppose you're right." The girl sighed, packing up her fishing line. "I'm Misty, from Cerulean."

"I'm Ash, from Pallet Town."

"And I'm Harry from Jura." Harry finished the round of introductions, glad that Misty had dropped her surname. Whoever first introduced themselves was typically the one to decide the format of that introduction. If she had used her surname it would have been impolite to then not also do so.

"Jura, really? I've never actually met someone from those islands." Misty admitted.

"Those starting their journey's spread out across the different regions. I'm the only first-time trainer entering this region this year, but I believe there are a couple of second- and third-year trainers here this year. They should have started their journey's a month ago, even if they couldn't start the badge run until three days ago." While applying for his starter Pokemon he'd discovered this information. There were also some trainers in their four through eight years of travelling. As far as he was aware, there was seventeen official trainers from Jura currently travelling through Kanto.

"How far are we from Viridian City?" Ash asked curiously as they got going. Harry had decided to leave Torchic in her Pokeball for the time being since she had already done a lot of work that day and she still had more training that night.

"About three hours if you're walking." Misty was the one to answer. "You should probably look into investing in a bike, you can get places faster that way."

"But if you walk, you get to see more of the Pokemon." Ash pointed out.

"And if you want to take the circle route, they have bikes you can rent on either side." Harry tagged on. He'd look into it before starting his journey because he wanted to know if he should invest into a portable bike which would have set him back 1200dollars. "Or you can capture a Pokemon you can ride on."

Their conversation was paused by a Poliwag suddenly jumping out in front of them. They were taller than Torchic, but only by maybe 0.05metres. The black swirl on their stomach was fully formed, and their tadpole shaped tail was nearly the length of his body.

"A Poliwag," Ash stepped forward excitable, looking to Pikachu to see if he wanted to take part in this battle.

"Pikachu." Pikachu jumped from Ash's shoulder and landed between him and the Poliwag that had challenged them.

"Awesome, let's do this Pikachu." Ash turned his hat backwards with a determined smile.

"I've never seen a Poliwag so far from the water edge before." Misty said in wonder as she watched the battle taking place in front of her.

"Pikachu, dodge and use Tackle." Ash ordered when Poliwag started the battle with a Bubble Beam.

"Did you want to capture him?" Harry asked unsurely, since Misty was an aspiring water master and she had spent the last day and a half trying to get a Pokemon.

"No, the poli-line isn't really one I'm interested in capturing." Misty shook her head.

"Let's end this Pikachu, Thunder bolt." Ash announced while Pikachu moved out of the way of a jet of water from Water Gun. The electric move overwhelmed the water type Pokemon, knocking him out and allowing Ash to send a Pokeball to capture him.

"Well done Ash. That means you have a water type, a flying type and an electric type." Harry complimented, while Ash hugged Pikachu in celebration.
