Chapter 15
~ Baby Grant ~
Alice's gasp was the only warning they had before they heard the sound of glass crashing onto the ground. The vampires and pack members ran towards the kitchen, followed by the wizards as they saw Esme bent over her pregnant stomach.
"T-The baby's – coming," She wheezed. Though her face was contorted in pain, everyone could see how excited she was from her glistening eyes.
"Rosalie, get Carlisle." Alice ordered. "Harry –"
"I'll get Severus and Madam Pomfrey." Harry rushed towards the fireplace to floo call the both of them.
Alice and Edward slowly helped Esme to Carlisle's office as Emmett and Jasper fixed up the room. Draco and Neville were fervently whispering cleaning charms and sterilizing charms on every inch of the room. Luna went with Rosalie to the nursery, gathering up things for the baby's arrival. Jacob, Seth and Paul had ran from the Cullens' home, heading over to the reservation to inform their pack of the impending birth.
Not ten minutes later, Severus and Madam Pomfrey had burst from the fireplace, already heading towards the office that had been predetermined for Esme's birth. A car could be heard outside, pebbles scattering in its wake as Carlisle returned just ten minutes afterwards. He was but a blur as he quickly entered the birthing room to help his wife.
Everyone stayed outside and waited patiently for the new Cullen to enter the world.
…..
The doorknob twisted and everyone was up on their feet. Severus and Madam Pomfrey left the office weary, but relaxed. The matronly healer paused before them to speak even as Severus walked away to start brewing potions to get Esme back to her usual health. "Carlisle says you may come in, but please do understand that his vampire is at an all time high. He may react towards a large group crowding around his mate and child."
The group decided to go in pairs; two by two they entered and left the room. Rosalie had a look of awe on her face when she had left, but the glint in her eyes showed how the moment had made her that much more determined to have a child on her own. Though it was sad to say she hadn't gotten pregnant throughout Esme's pregnancy, Rosalie hadn't given up hope. Harry hoped she would finally have her dreams realized.
The last pair to enter the room was Edward and Harry. The two quietly slipped in and watched as Carlisle fought with his vampire self to relax in their presence. Sure Edward was his childe, but lying on the bed was his exhausted mate and newborn; Edward would have to go through him to get to them – not that his rational side had ever though of such a thing happening. But when you were quite feral, anything was possible.
"Meet Grant Harrison Cullen," Esme smiled as they drew closer to her bed. One hand was rubbing Carlisle's hand to calm his tense body as her eyes never left the beautiful form of her baby. She bent her head down and kissed his little hand. In response, Grant's fingers wiggled and gripped her pointer finger tightly. Her smile was heartwarming and both heartbreaking at the same time. The brunette had had to die in order to beget another son – one that she would've never gotten unless she had met Harry and his wizarding family; one that would never take the place of her old baby boy, but nevertheless was now affirming his position in the Cullen coven.
The baby had a tuft of dark brown hair, lightened by sparse blonde highlights. He was quite pale, the little spots of red fading nearly two hours after his birth. His eyes were already golden but were ringed in red, and were actively tracking Esme's face and voice. He was eyeing Harry and Edward with interest, and though Edward could hear the baby's thoughts, it was quite interesting to hear that the baby was already in love with his parents.
"You named him after me?" Harry choked out; he lifted a finger and touched Grant's cheek, feeling the newborn's soft smooth skin.
Edward stiffened by his side, golden eyes tracking his sire as Carlisle stared pointedly at Harry's finger. Yet, the compassionate doctor did nothing to indicate he would attack Edward's mate. Possibly because deep down, Carlisle knew Harry meant no harm and so did his vampire instincts.
"You made his existence possible," Esme murmured, "He wouldn't have been here if it weren't for you."
"He's beautiful," Edward whispered. His eyes darted up to look at Carlisle and knew the new father would rip his hand off before Edward could even lift a finger to touch his new little brother. Unlike Harry, Edward was a dominant; the two would clash, especially with how feral Carlisle seemed to be. "We'll give you some time to rest. Does Grant need anything?"
"Surprisingly he'll drink formula," Esme laughed breathily. She adjusted her position with ease, helped by Carlisle as he fluffed her pillows and rearranged her blankets. Grant frowned at being jostled just so, but relaxed when his mother made no attempt to move again. "With a dash of human blood. Could you bring some soon?"
Harry nodded his head. "A few warming charms and a stasis spell and you'll have enough for a day," he promised.
"Thank you," Carlisle finally said, his jaw clenched tight. "The blood will be in the fridge." He nodded his head jerkily at them before returning his attention to his mate and baby.
As quietly as they had entered the room, Edward and Harry left the vicinity, gathering bottles of milk for the new addition to the Cullen family.
…..
As days passed, Grant Harrison Cullen became a fixture in the Cullens' home. The newborn was a sight for sore eyes, and just seeing his existence fueled Rosalie and Alice's desire for their own children.
Often times, Rosalie was able to take over Grant's care, allowing Esme to take a rest. Though the vampire had given birth as a vampire, Severus and Poppy had had to give her a caesarean section in order to remove Grant from her body. Even through magical means of healing, it still meant Esme was required to take a rest. After her 3-day period of bed rest, Esme could be frequently seen holding Grant in her arms like he was a precious jewel. Of course, Grant became the apple of the Cullen family's eye.
The infant was very much like Carlisle, already curious about the world around him. Though Grant was barely a month old, Harry could feel the beginning of some power stirring within the infant. Grant might be using his power now, but Harry had no idea about what the boy's power was.
"He's special." Harry finally announced to the Cullens. "I'm not sure what it is, but he has powers like Edward, like Jasper, like Alice."
Esme and Carlisle were happy with the news, but they knew it only planted a bigger target on their family considering they were considered a powerful coven that weren't under the Volturi's control.
"What the Volturi don't know won't hurt them," Harry shrugged.
Draco rolled his eyes, "What Harry means is if they come after you, we'll be here like we promised."
"Now hand over my godson," Harry wiggled his fingers and was delighted to receive Grant. The two stared at each other, Grant's attention only distracted for a brief second when Edward walked up to wrap his arms around Harry's waist. "He's my little brother, so I should take priority."
Harry scoffed and pointedly stuck his nose into the air, "As if."
…...
The wizard waved good-bye to the Cullens, seeing them off as they left to hunt. Edward hadn't wanted to leave, but honestly, Harry didn't need blood like his mate did. And so, it was with great reluctance that Edward departed.
Wondering what he was going to do now that Edward would be gone for a few hours, Harry's ears perked up, hearing Rosalie's voice inside the Cullen residence. He went into the kitchen and fetched a bottle of warm milk, added a few drops of human blood and walked through the halls. The raven found Rosalie in hers and Emmett's room, humming softly to Grant. She held him in her arms, and was rocking the baby gently from side to side. He knew she desperately wanted a child of her own, but the past few months had not been kind to her.
Rosalie took the potion as soon as she could, but try after try, she was unable to get pregnant. She had asked Severus after a couple of tries had failed, to see if it was because she had been gang-raped as a human – if it had damaged her womb, but that was not the case. Although she was quite relieved by the results, she was starting to give up hope. Possibly the only thing that was keeping her sane was Emmett. The big burly vampire really knew how to keep his mate happy and upbeat, but there were times where the blonde would disappear for a few hours, only to return feeling a slight longing.
"When the time comes," Harry said to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You'll be cursing Emmett and telling him to give birth."
Rosalie burst out into laughter.
…..
The weeks flew by quickly, and thankfully, none of them were accosted by Isabella – the little nutcase that she is. They deliberately ignored her existence and as the rest of the school followed their actions, Isabella became an outcast at Forks High.
However, as the weeks past, it meant the wedding was drawing closer and closer. Alice and Rosalie had done the accosting, dragging Harry with them to figure out the wedding plans. Luna had been at Seth's, but Harry knew she'd probably join in if she were there. Though the wedding date had yet to be decided, both of the vampires had insisted on the day that Edward had planned for his prior engagement. Harry wasn't sure of that, but their reasoning was to write over Edward's bad memories of Isabella, to be truly relieved of her upon marrying the wizard.
Harry and his fiancé shared a look of exasperation. They told the girls they'd think about it, but Alice was already up on her feet squealing with delight. Another exasperated sigh and the boys knew they'd decided on a favorable answer. It was then that the two vampires lifted him off his seat much to Harry's consternation. He was silently screaming for his fiancé's help, but Edward raised his hands in mock surrender and a smirk, watching as his sisters left the house with his lover in tow.
Now, Harry was sitting in a wedding planner's office, gritting his teeth whenever the lady sucked her teeth at Harry's less than enthusiastic answers.
"Well, what kind of flower arrangements would you like for your centerpiece?" She asked tightly.
"I don't know," Harry sighed. He'd probably said the same phrase a million times by now. He flipped through page after page. "None of these seem to be the one." Harry could see the veins on her throat as she held onto her frustration.
"Very well. I'll bring out the other album. In the meantime, I'll let you decide on which venue to have the wedding in."
"That's easy," Alice chirped. "The wedding will be held in our backyard."
The wedding planner wrinkled her nose, eyeing the two women beside the male teenager. All three were wearing brand name clothing. They all looked like models – gorgeous – all of them. And yet they want to hold a wedding in their backyard?
"Surely you must be joking," The redhead said. She stood and unconsciously smoothed down the wrinkles on her suit jacket when the blond woman leaned back in her seat with a raised eyebrow. She looked more like a goddess than a model! Some people were clearly luckier than most.
"There are plenty of venues here that would be willing to host such a large event." She smiled then, "I'll be back in five minutes with the flower arrangement albums. I'll give you three some time to think."
The three of them only spoke once the redhead left.
"She's the worst," Harry sighed in agitation. He pushed aside the albums and pulled the one containing pictures of the venues, closer. He fidgeted in his seat once before he stopped at Rosalie's smirk. "Karen – was it? Karen is her name?"
Rosalie flipped her long hair over her shoulder, "Yes, Karen. However, I think she believes you're the worst client she's ever had." She lifted her hand to check her manicure. "I'm sure she'd prefer bride-zilla over you. At least with bride-zilla, she'd have things written down instead of an empty notepad."
"What's wrong with our backyard?" Alice asked affronted. The brunette pursed her lips. "There's nothing wrong with getting married in our backyard."
Harry rolled his eyes, "Of course not, Alice." He soothed the vampire, patting her on the shoulder. "Some people just don't think that a wedding would be good on a dirt floor in the forest."
Alice huffed and crossed her arms, "Maybe I can do the planning for you," She stated airily. She looked at Harry coyly. "This planner isn't good enough for your wedding."
"Have you decided on a venue then?" Karen returned carrying three binders worth of albums. Placing them down, she pointed over at the fourth picture down the page. "If you haven't, might I suggest the Four Seasons Hotel? It's close by and holds a capacity of over 300 plus guests. There's a ballroom, a waterfront, and the hotel can accommodate your guests' stay."
"No, no." Harry shook his head.
Karen gave an understanding smile, "Don't want an outdoors wedding, huh? Perhaps something indoors then? The Grand Hyatt Seattle or The Westin Bellevue? Both are indoors venue and can hold up to 500 plus guests. Both are hotels / resorts and include a banquet hall, restaurant and ballrooms. The budget is between $54,000 and $88,000 for all your guests. However, if they were to stay overnight, the price is not included." Her bright red manicure pointed at both the eighth and tenth pictures a few pages into the album.
"No thank you," Alice stated, a touch bit frosty. "Our backyard would do just fine."
The planner nodded grimly as she jotted down her client's decisions. She'd lose commission over this and the family didn't seem to be poor. Maybe they were just stingy? No matter. She sat down and opened up the albums containing the more expensive, more elegant and gorgeous centerpieces money could buy. If she couldn't make a profit from their venue, there were plenty of other elements in a wedding that she could earn her salary from.
"This is called the passionate pink garden arrangement. It includes light pink lilies and roses, hot pink matsumoto asters and roses, pink peonies and roses – altogether accented with ivy and salal, delivered in a white decorative urn."
"I don't want pink in my wedding." Harry said. "But lilies on the other hand…"
Karen smiled; finally they were getting somewhere. "No pink then." She flipped the pages, "What color would you like? There are many options that will suit your taste."
Harry glanced down at the pictures, withholding his distaste at a bare minimum. He turned to look at Alice and the brunette grinned. Standing up, Rosalie and Alice followed his gesture and the three looked at the wedding planner who was slowly getting to her feet.
"Thank you for your time, but I think I'll let my sisters handle the wedding plans." He held out a hand to shake hers, but Karen stared at him blankly.
"What do you mean?" She asked flustered. "If it's something about the arrangements, I'm sure we can have the florists do an original with your choices."
"It's not the flower arrangements."
"Then I'll –"
"I'll pay you for your time," Harry interrupted as he pulled out a check. "I'm sorry, but I don't think we require your assistance anymore."
He signed off on a five hundred dollar check, ignoring the fact that he might be overpaying the planner. They'd only been sitting there for an hour and a half anyway. "Thank you for helping us," He said and handed the check to the despondent redhead.
The three left the premises and drove off.
"I'm so glad that's over with," He groaned, lying across the backseat.
"I told you I could help you plan the wedding." Alice stated. She just barely stopped herself from bouncing in her seat. Her golden eyes turned to look down at her almost-brother-in-law with amusement. She rolled her eyes when he stuck his tongue out at her. "Rosalie and I would love to plan your wedding. I promise it would be the perfect wedding."
"I wanted a normal, small-scale wedding. Not the upscale one the both of you are probably planning."
"It's not planning if I've already seen how it looks like," The pixie-haired vampire said in a sing-song voice. Rosalie laughed along with her sister, enjoying Harry's frustrated groan.
Sure it was a little vindictive to have Harry and Edward's wedding on the day that that little twit was to have hers and Edward's wedding, but this way, Edward can finally move on. Plus – Rosalie smirked at her thoughts – it would truly be one-upping that little, insignificant human.
…..
"There'll be lilies, for your mother." Alice promised. She was sketching out a picture of the centerpieces, the quick scritch-scratch of pencil on drawing pad.
Harry nodded his head, "Thanks." His finger trailed across the red lilies in the picture before handing it back.
"What colors would you like for it?" Alice asked, hand dangling over a pile of color pencils.
"White; throw in some blues and greens," answered Harry. "Add some red chrysanthemums and roses – also – Edward, what flowers did your mother like?"
Edward closed his eyes, trying to remember the times spent with his mother. With a small smile, he answered, "Gladiolus."
Harry smiled, eyes held steady on his fiancé,"… I think he deserves to have someone from his human life there, even if it's just in spirit."
"You'll love it!" Alice smiled, hands already dialing for the florists. Behind her sitting on the sofa was Rosalie. The blonde was busy flipping through catalogues, looking at both muggle and magical pictures for dresses and suits.
"There's nothing in here," She sniffed with distaste.
Harry raised an eyebrow, "Those are still in the seventeenth century. The Wizarding World has yet to expand from those outfits."
"Perhaps we should do something about it then," Rosalie suggested. "After the wedding, of course."
"How many people are you inviting?" Edward murmured. If Harry had to stay for his sisters to plan the wedding, his fiancé was going to be there with him as well.
"Hm… there's Draco, Neville, Luna, Sirius, Remus, Teddy, Severus, Shacklebolt, Minerva –"
"We better make it a big reception then," Edward stated, glancing in Alice's direction. The brunette nodded her head but didn't make a move to jot anything down. Clearly she already knew about the guest list.
"What's the point of us being here if Alice has already seen it?" Harry groaned. He fell against Edward and curled up to his side.
"You'll only get this experience once," Edward stated.
Harry scoffed, "Unless you're Rosalie, then it's every four years," He stated bluntly. He stifled his smile when the blond glared pointedly at his direction. "What? You know it's true!"
Rosalie threw the catalogue at his head but he caught it with his vampire-enhanced seeker reflexes. "Pick something because Alice's visions are not written in stone. There can be something that changes so stop being lazy."
"I don't understand why I just can't get married in some jeans and a t-shirt," said Harry. He ignored Alice's horrified look. "Since it's my wedding, I should get to choose what to wear."
Rosalie smiled sweetly at him, "If you chose what to wear every day, you'd look like a homeless man. Now get to work."
Harry grumbled underneath his breath, pulling several magazines onto his lap. "If I have to do this, you're doing this with me." He scowled heavily in Edward's direction, sliding a few magazines off his pile and onto Edward's lap.
Like the dutiful fiancé that he was, Edward skimmed through each one before circling the ones he liked with a red marker. With the two of them, the pile decreased and was then relooked at slowly and thoroughly for each option.
…..
Draco paused and turned his head to look at Jacob.
"Huh, Bella left Forks?"
"That's the rumor around here now," Jacob answered. He watched his imprint pace back and forth on his rug. "Charlie hasn't said anything, but Billy did say he saw Charlie moving packaging boxes into the back of Bella's pickup truck."
"Where would she move to?" Draco asked. His eyebrows furrowed as he stopped and pivoted. There weren't many places to go as far as Draco knew about her.
Jacob shrugged, "Back to Rene's, I guess. Think she's just using her mother's place as an excuse just because she lost immortality."
"That's stupid," the blond rolled his eyes. "She's running away with her tail between her legs. If I were her, I would've fought harder for my goals."
The brunette has been furious when Rosalie, making a visit to the school, had walked up to her, smirked and handed Bella the wedding invitation. She was the last one to receive it; everyone else had gotten their invitation. At the sight of the date of the wedding, Bella had raged and thrown a tantrum right in the middle of the cafeteria. The brunette was way past mad at the couple who was getting wed; she was more upset that the two were getting married on the date Edward and her were supposed to be married on.
Bella was practically foaming at the mouth and Harry had to bite his tongue to prevent from laughing. Rosalie's eyes were practically sparkling at the childishness that was spewing from Bella's mouth. Plus, everyone had their phones up and recording the moment. It was pure comedy and it was probably the reason why Bella was leaving.
Jacob chuckled, pulling his imprint down onto his lap. "In this situation, you can bet you wouldn't want her to do that. She's been giving you guys enough problems, playing on the knowledge that she is Edward's singer."
Draco huffed and crossed his arms, "Perhaps I should tell Harry anyway."
"I think Harry has enough to worry about with the wedding drawing near."
"I suppose you're right."
Jacob bit his lip to stifle a chuckle – Draco would never apologize or acknowledge that he was wrong, but he was changing albeit slowly – a pinch on his arm made Jacob realize he wasn't that good at hiding his amusement.
"Sorry babe," He drew Draco into a kiss, and the blond melted into the werewolf's embrace.
…..
Finally the day of the wedding has arrived. The Cullen family and Harry's friends and family were outside in the backyard greeting guests in their steed. Apparently, the Denali Coven from the Cullen's side, their sister coven from Alaska, were already there and seated in the second row from the front.
With their super hearing, Harry and the others could hear how their high school classmates were quite jealous with their unnatural beauty.
'Must be genetic.' Jessica had thought snippily.
'What I would kill to have a body like that.' Lauren had thought to herself.
Harry laughed from his room, thankful no one could hear him lest they think he was becoming hysterical from all the nerves of getting married.
…..
"This is stupid," Harry huffed. "There's no point in being separated now if we can hear each other through the walls."
"Alice says it's tradition."
Harry mimicked the same words spoken to him since last night.
"I know you're upset about it, but we're doing it for Alice." Edward laughed.
"She should let us do anything we want," Harry frowned petulantly. "We're the ones getting married."
Esme laughed behind him and he turned his eyes to look up at her. She was cradling Grant and the baby gurgled happily in her arms. He was only four months old, but he looked like he was at least seven months old – eight if the size chart that Carlisle had, had his measurements correct. It was too bad that they had to keep Grant at home, but thankfully, their property was quite large and so Esme was frequently found strolling around their backyard with Grant in her arms.
The infant was quite alert and seemed to understand what was happening if they were going by his expression. As of the wedding day, Jasper had felt the excitement bursting in Grant and he seemed to be drifting, albeit a bit dazedly around the Cullen home.
"Harry, this will be the first wedding for the rest of your life. You can never say that you'll get another first wedding," Esme reminded him. Then her attention was pulled away when Grant grabbed a handful of her hand and tugged it to his mouth, happily gnawing on it with a drooling smile.
The woman was absolutely in love with her baby. The Cullen family often found her standing by his crib, finger gently tracing her baby's facial features. Her hazel eyes would dart back and forth across his face, watching his little chest rise and fall with every breath. Though the young one was merely four months old, he was not deprived of any love nor did he need for anything. Grant had everyone wrapped around his little finger.
"Everything's ready. You can come now, Harry." Alice said, knocking on the door.
The wizard stood and smoothed the wrinkles from his outfit. Everyone had said Harry looked handsome and that Edward would be drooling when he saw his mate.
Esme gave him a kiss on his forehead and went to find her seat. Sirius took her place and they had a chance to talk before the music started.
"Pup, I'm not here to talk you out of it; Merlin be damned if I do." Sirius began. Harry smiled at his godfather's anxiousness. "I'm just – I," He floundered around for a bit, "What a time to be at lost for words…"
Harry chuckled, but waited patiently for Sirius to continue.
Sirius finally seemed to have gotten himself together, turning to his godson and brushing a loose strand of hair from Harry's face and tucking it behind his ear. "I just wanted to say that it should be your father walking you down this aisle, but I'm blessed to have been given the chance to give you to Edward."
"Sirius…" Harry's eyes watered. He gave a watery chuckle, "If anything, I'm sure dad would've been glad you were here for this moment."
The two hugged it out and dried their tears. Once they faced forward, the music started and the pair walked down the aisle.
…..
A/N: Woohoo! We're nearing the end!
