Peparia entered the Full Moon Patrol briefing room with her speech prepared. It was the same speech that she'd been giving for the last 20 years, though one part would be different.
"Good afternoon, everyone," Peparia said as she approached the podium. "As you all know, the first full moon of the year is coming in one week, and we all know what happens then. For us, this is the busiest night of the quarter, with all the preparations that come for us.
Now, for those of you who are new, I'd like to remind you all of the tragedy of 20 years ago, due to the failure of his teacher to properly train him, a Great Ape managed to escape the Parlee fields and head into the city, where he attacked a noble house and killed a four year old girl.
That girl was my daughter. It was due to her death that I bear the mark of Yamoshi and can now transform into a Super Saiyan. I bear my grief on my soul, which granted me power to do with as I please. I've chosen to serve the Full Moon Patrol to prevent others from experiencing my grief.
That is why we must stay vigilant. We must prevent others from experiencing the same tragedy that I did to ensure no one else bears the mark of Yamoshi as I do."
Peparia moved out from the podium, with a hand on her stomach. "Now, this is the point where I'd transfer your assignments, but there is one more important thing tell you. This will be my last full moon for 6 months. I am 12 weeks pregnant, and those of you who know me personally can tell I'm just starting to show. That means that, for the next 2 full moons, you will not have the Super Saiyan to be the first line of defense.
But I believe in you all. I believe that you can handle this the way the Full Moon Patrol has done for hundreds of years, ever since Dakkon taught us how to dominate our beasts. You are strong, you are powerful, you are the Full Moon Patrol!"
Peparia picked up her data pad and pressed a button. "Your assignments have been sent to your earpiece computers. Those of you who are here for your first Full Moon Patrol will shadow a senior patroller to ensure they know what to prepare for. You are dismissed."
Peparia watched as the Patrollers shuffled out of the briefing room. A few stopped and offered congratulations to Peparia on their way out, but eventually, the room was empty save for Peparia, Rutin and their immediate supervisor.
"First off, I'd like to offer my congratulations," he said, shaking the hands of Rutin, and then Peparia. "It's always wonderful to welcome a new life."
"Thank you," Peparia said. "I never thought I'd get the chance to be a mother again. I mean, between my age and my responsibilities…"
Their supervisor smiled. "You've earned it," he said, looking at Peparia, then at Rutin. "Both of you."
"Thank you, sir," Rutin said.
"Well, we've got work to do," the supervisor said. "Make sure you're ready, but don't push yourself too hard, okay Peparia?"
"I won't," Peparia said as their supervisor left the room, leaving only Rutin and Peparia.
Once he was certain they were alone, Rutin spoke up. "Have you thought about a name yet?"
"I was thinking of 'Seripa' if we have a girl, and 'Vegeta' if we have a boy," Peparia said.
Rutin smiled. "I think they're both wonderful," he said, grabbing Peparia's hands, smiling brightly.
