I Don't Own Minecraft
I was so uncomfortable, the boat ride of hell through the ocean wasn't even as bad as this, well that's not true in the slightest but it certainly felt like that as I sat down in front of the woman, Wilefin, as she looked at me with almost unblinking eyes as I did my best to ignore the voices pounding against my mental walls as my necklace was probably the only reason I hadn't yet jumped at her with intent to rip her throat out. It did put me on edge though which did nothing to help the awkward and tense air around us.
"I want you to tell me exactly what all happened since you're creation to the defeat of the dragon" I blinked as I was ripped out of my focus as she practically barked the order at me... Is that technically racist to say she barked something because she's part wolf? I withheld from shaking my head and just thought about how I was suppose to respond to that... I didn't trust myself to give a full recount so I just paraphrased my paraphrasing of what I told that human lady when I first woke up.
"Um, I spent the first week alone just gathering some supplies, then I met Bine and Alysine, I helped them and we spent about a month getting stuff and exploring the nether, then we spent about a month of looking around and finding the stronghold, and the last few weeks were gathering supplies and stuff before fighting the enderdragon" It was hard to keep track of just how many days we spent in that world, so I was just kind of half certain about how long we spent there. She didn't seem all that impressed.
"You quantified four months of work into two very unhelpful sentence" Four months? Were we really in there that long? I just shrugged in my seat as I wasn't really sure what she wanted me to say right now as I just spoke up.
"Um. Why didn't you just ask Bine or Alysine, they would know just as much" I wish she did because I felt so lost about what I was suppose to be doing at the moment and trying my damnedest to be polite which was really hard because while I was very uncomfortable with awkward all this was, I was also annoyed at this woman's attitude and demeanor.
"Are you saying you're incapable of simply saying what happened" Yes, that's exactly what I'm say because I have no idea what the hell you want from me woman! Instead of saying that word or word I managed to make it less offensive as I forced a reason out.
"Yeah? I was kind of born four months ago and all my social skills have come from talking to two teenagers. I honestly have no idea what you want from me exactly" She looked at me for a moment as I closed my right eye, the voices were getting way to loud even with my necklace, which also let me know I was still currently not wearing a shirt at the moment either which kind of made this more awkward.
"Fine, I...apologize... for not making it more clear. From our history with spawn players, their knowledge is often incomplete, tell me, what do you know, what knowledge did you use to kill something as fierce as a dragon with only two normal humans to help you" I could tell the apology was hardly sincere, it was clear at how hard it was for her to even say the word, but still, at least now I actually now know what she wants to know.
"Decent knowledge about the End and Nether, general biomes, passive and hostile mob behaviors, potions, minor combat skills, and crafting are the ones I used the most but I also know the basics of enchanting I think and while I'm not sure how it qualifies, I got my hybrids abilities, so I can teleport but I'm in pain when in contact with water among other things" She leaned back at bit as her eyes narrowed and said.
"Does my eye contact make you uncomfortable?" She's sharp I guess, though it's not a hard conclusion to reach, I was closing my right eye now which she knows is the same bright purple that enderman have.
"Very. I figured out eyes of ender can repress the urge a bit but if I wasn't wearing it and you continue to look at my right eye, I would be trying to kill you" She smirked as I noted a sharp tooth like a fang jutted out a bit over her lower lip as she seemed to find the idea amusing. I wasn't sure why, personally I found it very annoying.
"Understandable, hostile mob hybrids like you are normally taught at a young age to curb any impulse like that but you'd only have a third of a year to try and cope with it. It is interesting that eyes of ender can be used like that though, I had no idea, but then again endermen hybrids are very rare. I can't say I've ever met one before at the very least, at least before today that is" Interesting, I leaned back a bit as I looked her for a moment before asking.
"How do things work here? I asked a bit about this place from Bine but I don't really know how it's structured or the way this place works. If I'm going to be staying around, I need to know at least how the Central Hub works" She raised an eyebrow at that as her smirk seemed to grow a bit as she said in a self important tone that just rubbed me the wrong way.
"Do you think I have time to answer such pointless questions?" For the first time I just said what I wanted too, before I could manage to say something else the words got ripped out of my throat without me meaning to actually say them.
"Aren't you a principle, it's kind of your job to answer questions from people who want to learn" She leaned forwards a bit at her eyes narrowed at me as I finally decided to push the feeling pf uncomfortable unease away. Yeah wolves were predators but enderman were monster, I'm a step above her on a dangerous hybrid ranking poll. If I could stare down a fucking dragon, then I shouldn't allow some random lady to make me scared.
"Heh. There's the spine I was looking for" I blinked as I raised an eyebrow as I looked at her confused for a moment as she let out a sharp barking laugh for just a moment before saying.
"Both those brats said that they managed to complete the test mostly because of your help. The boy made sure to talk all about how you were brave and skilled, but I just couldn't see it until now. You're control is admirable but I don't care about pretenses or formalities. I want to see the warrior that's in front of me, not some socially awkward lanky brat" I looked at her for a moment before sighing as I tried to draw on whatever Bine thought he saw in me before saying as I held back from being as polite anymore since she made it a point to tell me to stop it.
"Sorry to say but those two people are one in the same, I got survivalist traits but I also got zero idea about how to deal with people in equal measure" She laughed again in that sharp way before nodding as she looked at me for a moment before saying.
"I get it, some hybrids are like that when they get more of the mob side than human, especially hostile mobs, we're more instinctual and don't know how to interact with others like humans can without practice from being taught early on" I just shrugged at that as I had no idea what I was suppose to say to that as it really was my own social ineptness as I wasn't exactly a normal hybrid, she looked at me for a moment before saying in less of a sharp way.
"The kingdom's land is arrange in a simple enough way. We don't have a king or queen or anything and all decisions are made from a council of those in charge of certain aspects of life, like me for education among other things, but we do have noble families that are ancestors from the ones that created the basics of the kingdom that we are in now. Besides that, the kingdom is split into seven districts, the commercial area, general market place, housing, the castle, farming, the nobles, and the barracks. This hospital is in the commercial area" I nodded at that as I wondered which part of her was the fake side, the sternness or the niceness, maybe just two sides of the same person? I really don't get people in all honesty.
"I see, what about currency to buy stuff?" She blinked a bit at that as she looked at me for a moment before saying simply enough.
"Depends on the person, some people will have you do stuff, sometimes you barter items of equal value, though most are villagers who can work for mostly just emeralds if you have any. Their harder to get than just working for pay but they're the more professional ones and they always hold true to their word" I nodded at that as I figured villagers would be a bit different than they were in the game, from how she said it, they are just normal humans that don't have a GUI or ability to use items like crafting tables like player can.
"But if you do work for a villager be careful. They're usually a bit jumpy around hostile mob hybrids, mostly just zombie or sometimes skeleton hybrids but I doubt many people have seen an enderman hybrid either so who know show they'd react" I nodded at the advice before realizing that she only half answered my question really.
"But what about building a place? Or at least renting an area to live, do things like that have a set money system or?" I was mostly just curious about what kind of work I'm going to have to do to make a living. She seemed to think about that for a moment, like she was deciding how to answer it before finally coming up with an answer.
"It also depends on the owner of the place. This world, or at the very least, this kingdom works heavily on a bartering system, and most worlds outside this one are the same but there are some that have specific systems in place for things like what your talking about. Emeralds are one of the things that are generally universal for most worlds because all worlds with proper civilizations will have more than a few villagers but that's about it" Right, exchange rates would get beyond complex when you consider how many worlds there could be out there, so it's simplified a bit to keep it from being to complicated. Interesting and helpful. I'm technically not broke because I can sell my skills for things.
"What about jobs? Is there a payment system for things like that?" She nodded easily, so that was not a difficult question then and said simply.
"Most get paid in things like food normally among other items which can be traded and sometimes emeralds as a form of bonuses or extra pay" Damn, ok, so this was a really heavy bartering system based economy, interesting. To be honest I don't really know what else to say or ask at the moment, my immediate questions were answered. Wilefin seemed to notice at that well and said.
"I find you curious to be honest, we don't get many spawn players here these days. Especially one with the natural talent strong enough to managed to, with only two other inexperienced teenagers, kill an enderdragon" I just shrugged a bit at that as I wasn't sure what to say, honestly it wasn't that big of a deal to me, it wasn't really as grand as I originally thought it would be all those months ago when I first got here. It wasn't so much an adventure more of a test of my stubbornness to survive than anything.
"I've recommend you to do work in the knights corps, which I happen to co-head. It one of the jobs that we talked about. It's to defend the outer wall against any hostile mobs from getting into the town that makes up the kingdom" I looked at her for a moment as I noticed she was smirking at me with a gleam in her yellow eyes as her ear flickered a bit in what I thought maybe was excitement. I didn't approve.
"I'd much rather not if it's all the same" She just smiled in a frankly worrying way as she just said in a falsely happy voice.
"I told you that some people take payment in the form of labor, well the hospital, this hospital, is one of them. The other two brats are being covered by their parents since they have some spare emeralds, but you don't have any so you need to work off your debt, simple as that" I frowned as I looked at Wilefin for a moment as I thought about how dumb that was before finally saying.
"Why front line duty? For a hospital, wouldn't it make more since for the labor to be something like helping out on other sick people or something?" She nodded and said.
"Yes, usually, but like I said, I'm curious about what you can do. Besides it's not that big of a deal, you'll be fine, hardly anyone on watch dies and you'll only be doing it for a week as assigned by a friend of mine who owns this place" I looked at her for a long moment before sighing as I said in an annoyed tone.
"Fine, but I'm not going out there until I'm fully healed at least. I've been through way to much at half health to deal with more after I survived that hell" She smirked as her grin gave me a sense of annoyance as I could tell she was happy I gave into her words. It wasn't like I could really say anything against it. If that's how this world works then I just have to play by the rules, no matter ho annoying they personally seemed to be in my opinion.
"Glad to see you aren't some limp noodle in all forms of conversation, when you have a demand you sure know how to put it. Fine, I wasn't planning on sending you out that quickly anyway. Besides, speaking of that 'hell' while it's very usual for a spawn player to be generated in a testing world, since you did manage to complete the trail set out to you with some pretty big disadvantages, the Academy has no problem with allowing you access to the other worlds. once you work off your debt that is of course"
I just nodded, no reason to get into an argument over it though that was a pretty damn nice surprise to get something like that, though to be fair I really freaking deserved it with all the stuff I've done to get this far. So I just gave her a kind of tense smile and said.
"If that's all, I'm going to head back to my room now. I'm still tired, I blame the potions" She laughed a bit at that as I stood up and noticed she didn't seem to try and stop me as I just turned and walked out of the room. Honestly I wasn't that tired, but I didn't really want to continue that conversation any longer so that was a nice enough reason to get out of it. As I walked down the hall again, I stopped after a moment and turned and looked out of the windows.
I could only half see out of it as I looked on at the people walking down the street, a few with interesting differences. I saw a girl with what looked like a cat tall, I saw a man with a cloak on with a very bony face who looked to not have eyes, even another girl that had horns. Hybrids are super common from the looks of things but that wasn't to surprising all things considered.
It was kind of weird to be honest, to see so many people, even from how high up I seemed to be, I could still hear the chatter and the movement of them all, it was crazy. Shaking my head, I looked back to the way I had come form as I headed back, I wanted to talk to Bine and Alysine for a while, just to talk and relax for a while before I would have to get to work.
"I can't believe Ms. Wilefin would make you do something like that" I just shrugged at Bine's annoyance, I had gotten mine mostly out of my system at this point but I did agree. On a side note, I don't think last name's exist in general as everyone is just referred to by their first names. I wonder if that ever gets confusing? A thought for later I suppose as Alysine spoke up.
"Will you be fine?" I looked over at her where she was sitting on her own bed while me and Bine were sitting on his. I thought about it for a moment, wondering how bad it could be if there was a bunch of others helping me out. Sure I already figured more mobs spawn the more people there are but normal hostile mobs like zombies and skeletons are that big of a threat in all honesty.
"I should be fine, at the very least I'll be able to avoid anything coming at me" That seemed to get them to feel a bit better as I asked after a moment as I looked down at my hotbar for a second.
"Hey, Alysine mind if I use your iron sword for a while so I have something?" She looked like the question was ridiculous as she answered easily enough.
"Of course, you know I prefer a bow anyway" I nodded with a small smile at that as I looked at another item in my hotbar for a moment and said in a more quiet tone.
"Also, could you two not tell anyone about the egg for a while?" Both Bine and Alysine looked at me for a second before they both nodded as Bine said.
"We figured you'd might want to keep it on the down low dude so I told Alysine to not mention anything. I didn't want you to be hounded while you were adjusting to everything here, guess that only sort of worked though" It made me feel nice that they already thought about that as I looked at the eggs icon in my inventory. I'm not the only one whose's managed to get one before but the potential that could come from it was interesting and I didn't want something I had worked so hard for get taken away from me because people heard about it and decided they wanted it.
"Thanks you two, you're doing a lot for me. I'll even be staying with you for a while" Alysine snorted as Bine pulled me into a one arm hug, careful about not hurting my bad shoulder as he said.
"Oh come on, you've done so much to help us out that it's the least we can do really, besides we didn't even need to convince our parents, they brought it up before we could even get the words out" Still, he was going to ask for me to live with them anyway even if they hadn't come up with the same idea, that alone made me feel nice, it was a very good feeling with how awkward, tense, and annoyed I was during my talk with Wilefin.
I didn't say anything else to that, deciding it was a good enough point to let off as the siblings started talking about a bunch of different stuff, mostly about things they wanted to do now that they were back. Bine also mentioned a bunch of things he wanted to show me and said that once I could leave freely that he wanted to take me around at least some of the districts a few days at a time to show me everything that the Central Hub had to offer to normal people. Obviously some places like the castle and some of the noble areas was mostly off limits but that was fine, I was more than fine with the idea of just being able to have fun for once with my friend without having to worry about something like my immediate and continual near deaths.
It was nice, to just sit there, listening to the two siblings talk as I put my own piece into the conversation when it was asked or I just felt like it. No pressure or planning what we should be doing next, what items we were low on, or what we should think about getting later on. None of that, just normal talk about just random stuff. It reminded me oddly enough about the only good parts of our time in those two cramped boats, the pointless yet enjoyable conversations, it had only lasted for the first few days before we all got sick and miserable of everything, but still.
Absently as I thought about it, I opened up my inventory and looked at the few items I had managed to take with me. My amour was somewhere else, probably in that cabinet I saw when I woke up since my necklace was in it. Right now the only notable things I really had that I had taken from my first world was the berries, some flowers, my almost broken crossbow, some arrows, one speed potion, a brewing stand, the dragon egg, and two bottles of dragon's breath. The rest was just left over gravel and an assortment of random blocks, food and water.
Pulling out the berries, because honesty I had over a stack of them so I wasn't going to run out and it's been days since I've actually eaten, I popped on into my mouth and smiled at the taste. Before laughing a bit as I listened to Bine's stomach next to me start rumbling. His face went red as Alsysine giggled a bit behind her hand as he adverted his eyes away from my hands, I just rolled my own at that and held them up to him. He looked a bit embarrassed but took them all the same.
Yeah, even if my fighting isn't over just yet, and in a world like this, probably will never really be over, but this is something different, this isn't just surviving for the next day. I'm excited to actually start living properly. I can't wait.
Interesting and fun chapter, a new character in the form of Wilefin has been properly introduced. It's pronounced Why-ill-fin if anyone was curious. Besides that, yeah some world building and some talks about what all is involved in the Central Hub world and what Edison will be doing for the immediate future at the very least. Theses first few chapters of this part of the story will mostly be set up and exploration of this new environment Edison's found himself in more than anything really, but that's because there's 100 thousand words of plot about surviving and fighting the odds already here so I figured the main cast deserved a bit of a break of a kind before I start up with the next big plot lines. Anyway, See ya.
