At long last. The final small chapter to end it all. Probably my biggest and also longest-to-produce crossover I ever made as of right now. I am definitely going to be taking a break from crossovers for some time. XD
I'm gonna make sure this last chapter ends off with a bang, while also giving out that sweet, happy ending to make things right again.
But here is the final chapter. Enjoy. ;)
Backwards message of the chapter: .tsal ta lamron ot kcaB
The Inkling and Octoling population has gone back to its normal roots, now that the City of Light is finally over. And with this crowd, everyone was talking about the event that just happened out of nowhere.
Most are concerned, but a few others were just thinking of pointless theories on how this whole thing happened in the first place. But it didn't matter to anyone much. Right now, the place they call home is no longer invaded, and they can go back to doing their normal things again.
Shops were openly available to the public again, and Judd announced that Turf Wars are safe to participate in. Crusty Sean opened up his food truck again, and the rest were just talking and vibing like they normally would.
Just then, Off the Hook's news broadcast turned on. Everyone gathered at the center of the Square to see what the latest buzz in. To everyone, they knew it was going to be about the City of Light.
After the quick intro, Pearl and Marina could be seen in the studio, in their normal spots.
"Y'all know what time it is!" Pearl laughed.
"It's Off the Hook, coming at you LIVE from Inkopolis Square!" Marina added.
"Now, before we go ahead and announce stage rotations, Marina and I would like to celebrate." Pearl said quickly. A big image appears in the center, that shows the once-seen Fearical Dome. Except the image was also grayed out and had a big red X over it.
"At long last, the City of Light is gone," Marina cheered, "After three whole days of the splatastrophe, we're all safe and sound."
The DJ Octoling spins one of the disks on her turntables similar to the rotating stage announcements. Another image replaced the current one. It had Galeem in his stoned form.
"And this just in! Galeem, the dummy responsible for this mess, has reportedly been found deep in the woods; never to be touched again!" Pearl exclaimed.
"We do not know what happened, but one thing we do know is that he's gone," Marina reminded, "It may have something to do with... his own life force taken away, and erasing him from his physical form."
"Deep." Pearl chimed in. Marina just shakes her head, showing a small smile.
"I'm just glad we get to be together doing the news, Pearlie." The Octoling complimented. Pearl chuckles and shows a smirk, leaning back in her chair.
"You too, gurl." She replied.
"Now, we have one more thing to announce real quick before the next rotations," Marina said abruptly, "Like our previous time before the City of Light, we would like Redd, lead singer of the Squid Bits, to say his thoughts on the whole event."
"Unfortunately, his sister isn't here to speak as well. So it's just him. But let's hear what this dude gotta say!" Pearl stated. The screen transitions back to the roof of New Albacore Hotel, just like last time.
Redd just shows a big smile and waves, earning an onslaught of cheers from the population of Inklings and Octolings gathered at the center of the Square.
"Thanks, Pearl. Glad to speak again as a guest star in your broadcast." The Squid Bits singer said gleefully. He grabs a small microphone and taps on it a couple times. During the silence, he patiently waits for everyone to cool down.
Once there was complete silence, Redd turns towards the audience, ready to talk.
"Now, I would like to thank you all for coming. We were stuck in the middle of this... event that just seemingly popped up out of nowhere," Redd explained, "None of us are really aware of what just happened. None of us want to, either. And now that Galeem is gone, we are all safe and sound. The barrier that would be protecting us should heal up sooner or later."
The image of the stoned Galeem reappeared. But this time, it was smaller so there was enough room to see Redd and the scenery of the hotel.
"Like Pearl had mentioned earlier, this 'Lord of Light' has a stoned physical form deep within the woods where it can never be found," Redd continued, "So, if any of you decide to hike or travel there and find that statue, I highly advise you stay away from it. I'm afraid something bad might happen if even the slightest touch were to come back."
Murmurs could be heard amongst the large crowd. But Redd quickly smiles reassuringly and places his hands up slightly.
"But I think I'm getting ahead of myself. The bad thoughts aside, I'm sure something like that will NEVER happen," He stated, "I mean, if he's been statueized, you could say it's karma striking back and placing the icing on the cake. With no secret form, Galeem can never physically harm us. But to get away from this dangerous light topic, David, Joel, and I have a sneak peek of the new song we'll be releasing. However, this one is more of a parody. With different voices. It's called... Lifelight."
Redd took out a small piece of paper, and then looks down at it. He didn't know the tempo of the song yet, so he decided to just read it in a poem format.
Every soul contains a whisper of light
Growing louder as it calls to unite
From the distance sings a chorus of souls
Rising slowly, stirring heat from the coals
Once he was done, he placed the paper back down.
"And that literally was the sneak peek. Just those lines," Redd chuckled, "We'll be releasing our parody in a few days. So stay tuned, fellow squids! And octopuses! Be one with the Squid Bits!"
Redd kept his happy grin as he does his signature pose. And the news cuts back to Off the Hook, who smile at the aftermath of Redd's speech.
"What a nice squid. He sure knows how to keep things up and going." Marina complimented.
"Indeed, 'Rina. But you know..." Pearl started. She then held up another small note.
"What's that one?" Marina asked.
"I dunno. It was supposed to be a copy of the upcoming Squid Bits parody, but it's nothing close to it. Meh!" Pearl scoffed as she tosses the paper aside. Marina stares confusingly at her small Inkling partner.
Pearl just smirks as she turns back to Marina.
"But just forget it! Let's head back to those stage rotations!" Pearl offered.
"Sure thing, Pearlie." Marina answered, smiling back. And while they began to do the stage rotation announcements, the camera cuts to the paper that Pearl just tossed away.
The words seemed like some kind of hidden language. They then mysteriously jumbled up and revealed themselves to be English.
Ninety degrees with angel wings and a sphere.
Watches from above and below fear.
Teamed up to see his dimension burn.
Misses it all and can never return.
Says he's happy. He's a liar.
Blame the insanity fueling the fire.
If he wants to crumble the blame,
He need only be to invoke my name.
One way to absolve his petty crime.
At a different form; a different time.
*two months later...*
The whole city was still normal as usual. However, despite two months passing by since the whole City of Light event, people were still talking about it. It may have seemed annoying, but no one could blame, as the fear could still be fed upon.
Sonic still hasn't woken up from his coma yet. His parents were keeping a watchful eye on him to make sure he's still okay after the horrible invasion. Everyone was getting afraid that Sonic was going to die. But his pulse hasn't slowed down, so the chances of that were highly unlikely.
Right now, Callie, Pearl and Marina were by Sonic's side as they watched the boy rest. Out of everyone, besides Redd, they were the most worried about him.
But little did they know... they didn't have to wait any longer.
Shuffling can be heard. The three idols looked towards Sonic, and they saw... he was slightly moving around. They were shocked, as they had a feeling Sonic was waking up. Or hopefully it wasn't a nightmare...
Right on cue, Sonic slowly opened his eyes. He groans and slightly tilts his head up, and was shocked to see the idols right by his bedside.
"Callie...? Pearl...? Marina...?" He uttered.
"Sonic! You're awake!" Callie shouted.
"Thank goodness you're alright!" Marina sighed in relief.
"You had us worried there all this time, dude! Can you remind us next time you decide to take a very long nap?" Pearl teased.
"What happened? How long was I out...?" Sonic questioned as he slowly sat up.
"Two whole months. It was a very long sleep you had." Pearl chuckled.
"As for what happened, Redd told us what happened. But we'll spare you the details," Marina said, "Basically, you gave energy to a powerful tool, and stopped Galeem for good. You passed out as a result, but the City of Light is no more."
Sonic groans again as he rubs his head, but then he looks around.
"Wait, uh... where is Redd at? And the others?" Sonic asked.
"Redd's doing Turf Wars, Chany and Flint are hanging out, Aaliyah and Caleb are hanging out, and Mia's... probably being lazy again." Callie chimed in.
"We don't know all of the details, but that's all we do know from what we've been told is all that. Sorry we couldn't invite everyone. This was so sudden." Marina said.
"It's okay." Sonic quickly forgives them, showing a smile. Just then, Sonic gasps as all three of the girls hug him. Pearl and Marina on one side, and Callie on the other.
And just expected, a huge, bright blush was plastered on his face.
"We were very worried about you during those two months!" Marina cried.
"Yo, I'm just glad to see you alive!" Pearl said. Sonic smiled through his blush, and slowly puts his arms around the girls, or at least tries to.
"It's okay, girls. Don't worry about it. I'm fine. I'm all fine in the end, right?" Sonic assured.
"Right." The Off the Hook idols.
"By the way, Sonic, you got a letter!" Callie reminded, suddenly holding out a small paper.
"Who's it from?" Sonic asked as Callie gave him the note. The magenta Squid Sister slightly shrugged her shoulders, not letting go of Sonic.
"I think it was one of those big gloves! He wanted to give this to you." She replied. Sonic looks at the note and thoroughly reads over it.
To whom it may concern, this note is to Sonic, a blue Inkling that's attached to Inkopolis Square.
Sonic, I just want to thank you. Smash is back to normal, and all battles are going by as normal as they should be! We're thankful for your help in ending Galeem's terror attack.
I'm not sure if you'll be awake when you say this, but I hope to see you again. Maybe even virtually. If you know what I mean, wink wink.
But I hope to see you on the battlefield, legendary Inkling! Settle it in SMASH!
-Master Hand
Sonic puts the paper next to him, still smiling.
"What does it say, Sonic?" Callie questioned.
"Let's just say it's a thank you note. Since we all worked together." Sonic answered. The girls' smiles grew wider as they snuggle onto Sonic. Sonic just lets all the comforts and snuggles take place.
They even grouped together to kiss Sonic on the cheeks. Luckily, Sonic didn't pass out or get too nervous. Instead, he smiled throughout the kisses. His blush was brighter, but it didn't cause a nosebleed.
His progress of not being nervous around girls was starting to rise. He is definitely getting better. And it all started thanks to stopping an all-powerful light god from taking over the beloved Inkopolis Square, and invading it as his own.
And now that he's gone, Sonic and his friends can experience any new challenge, and not have to back down, no matter what it may be.
A/N: And there we go. The end of City of Light. :)
I think I'm also going to remake New Friendship while I'm at it, too. But I think I might just release that one as its own story rather than just completely replacing chapters in the old one. New's always fresh if I do say so myself.
That's all for my long-made SSBU x Splatoon crossover. Stay Fresh, everyone! I'll cya next time with more wacky stories! :D
