I rolled around trying to get comfortable. I sighed, gave up, and rolled out of bed. I just wasn't sleeping well tonight. I grabbed a blanket and threw it around my shoulders as I left. Then I moved through the hallways like some weird vampire. I had decided that a cup of water would help. So, I silently walked to the common room. When I arrived I was startled to find someone else awake.
"Hello."
I jumped.
"Hi, Vision. Are we just the one a.m gang. We are always up at the same time."
"It's actually 3:23. I do not need to sleep so I am awake the whole night."
I went to go get a cup of water. "What do you do?"
"I make sure there are no intruders and read." He stated.
"Huh." I plopped down on the couch next to him.
We sat there in silence as I drank my water.
"I'm super excited to go to the Warehouse tomorrow. I know Chiron knows I'm coming back tomorrow. He's been keeping me updated on the happenings there." I rambled. "I have a baby chimera there. I found it and didn't want it to die so I'm fostering it. It tried to maul my hands off once. That was the day before I joined the fight with Ultron. Has it really been three months? It has gone by really fast."
"I'm afraid I did not understand the last half of that sentence, you slipped into a different language." Vision cut me off.
"Oh..oops." I chuckled.
I had unknowingly slipped into The Language of The Birds for part of that. I have noticed that now that I'm more comfortable with everyone, I'm slipping into a different language.
"I'm sorry. I've spent so much time around the mythical that I talk in their languages. It's common for them to change right in the middle of a sentence. Every species knows The Language of The Birds. It's the common language."
"There's no need to be sorry." Vision said "I know almost every language fluently. Well, almost every 'human' language."
"I could teach you if you want. It's not too hard. Elvish is tricky though." I offered.
"That would be wonderful. Thank you."
"Your welcome."
I smiled happily and sipped my drink.
"I've picked up some strange things from the mythical," I explained. "I talk in different languages, my humor is a bit different. The way I see the world is drastically different from 2013 to now."
"The way you see the world?" he repeated.
I nodded. "I used to be a lot more pessimistic. I saw a lot of things with a negative connotation. Now, I guess you could say I'm a lot happier."
"How do you see everything now?" He asked.
"I have a deeper respect for nature. Everything is connected and Everything is held in a delicate balance. Humans and the mythical living in a symbiotic relationship without the humans even knowing! Sometimes I think I don't act as humans would even though I am one."
"I can relate to that." he stated." I'm not particularly sure what to say at what time."
"We can learn how to be humans together." I said, "We can add Wanda to this adventure as well."
"That sounds like a great idea."
"I've got to go to bed." I said, "I'll see you in the morning."
"Alright."
That morning I practically jumped out of bed. I got ready in record time and ran to the common room for breakfast. I made some toast and said where I was going to whoever was in the room. I dashed out toast in hand and got ready to leave. I could finally go back to the Warehouse. I was so excited. I ran outside, now with my spear. I summoned Sonic and off we went. It was slightly windy and the perfect August day. August tenth to be exact. A ripple of worry rolled through me. School was coming up. Going to school would make my schedule even busier than it already is. During the school months, I usually go to school and after school, I stay at the Warehouse until it's time to go to bed. Now I'm a trainee Avenger.
A 'trainee Avenger.' I mused. Ha.
It takes a while to get back and forth from the city to upstate. I wouldn't have much time to do anything. I would have to ask Cap what I could do. Right now I didn't have to worry I was going to see some of my friends. I would deal with that later.
When we landed I jumped right off of Sonic and raced in.
"I'm back!" I hollered as I bounded down the steps. I took a deep breath. I had missed this place so much. The earthy smell, the chatter of the people, and the occasional screams when the chimera decides he wants to escape.
Once I got down the stairs I was hit by two running objects.
Acorn and Fern.
"You're back!" Fern squealed as they hugged me.
"What happened?" Acorn questioned, "Did you beat up some bad guys?"
"I did," I confirmed as I started leading them towards Chiron's office.
"What are the Avengers like?" Fern asked.
"I told you about them already, silly."
"Now you know them better!" Acorn added.
"Nothing's changed. I've only been gone a week." I explained.
We continued walking.
"Ah, Joy!" Chiron said as we walked through the doorway."How are you?"
"Very good," I responded, ruffling Acorn and Fern's hair.
They batted my hands away and grumbled. Chiron chuckled.
"Why don't you scamper off, me and Joy have some important things to talk about," Chiron said to Acorn and Fern.
They grumbled but knew better than to protest.
"It won't be long," I added as they left.
I sat down at the table we usually use for meetings. "Anything on the Redbrands?"
"No, that is troubling."
"They could just be taking a break or better yet they aren't a group anymore. "
"Or they could be planning something big," Chiron added.
I nodded in agreement.
"What about the people who kidnapped me?" I asked. "Are they mythical?"
"No, from what you said in your letter it sounds like HYDRA," Chiron explained.
"Most likely." I sighed." We came up with nothing and we have S.H.I.E.L.D working on it too. It could be a third party."
"If so we have a lot on our hands," Chiron concluded.
"We already do."
I poked my head into Wanda's room. I had spent the morning and most of the afternoon at the Warehouse.
The TV was on in her room.
"Hi!" I said as I entered the room. "Whatcha watching?"
"Oh hello. I'm watching some old American sitcoms." She told me.
"Ohh. I've never listened to one. Are they funny?" I asked.
"Yes. That's why I enjoy them. Would you like to watch one with me?"
"Maybe later. Cap wants to talk to us about something."
"About what?"
"He didn't specify."
She turned the TV off and followed me out the door. We met Cap outside of the training room.
"Hello, Cap!" I cheerily greeted him.
"Hello."
"What did you want to talk to us about?" Wanda asked hesitantly.
"Well, I know school is starting soon. We enrolled both of you in homeschooling."
"I've been homeschooled before! From kindergarten till I was seven." I explained.
"That's good. Wanda, I know you have finished school but you said you wanted to finish High school." Cap continued.
"Yes." She confirmed.
"We have everything set up for you both. It's an online course."
I was worried for a moment. How would I be able to do anything!"
"The one you will be taking, Joy, has all of the assignments in braille. You can watch the video about the lesson and fill in the sheet."
I internally sighed with relief.
"I also was wondering Joy if you could stay here full time." He asked.
"Full time?" I repeated.
"You would sleep here." He clarified.
"Ohhh." was all I could say. I was eternally screaming. I would be able to stay here!
I could still go to school, train, and go to the Warehouse! It was perfect!
"Yes! I can. I might have to bring some things like clothes."
"Great!"
Cap told us that was it and I and Wanda went off and watched sitcoms until dinner.
