Chapter 50

For those that were alive in the city, would remember how in a single moment a bright light would appear out of nowhere, and a beam would fly up to the largest of the Braivrok ships and pierce it. Once it hit the ship, it would fade from view just as quickly. From the impact, the ship would lose all its power and so would the hundreds of other Braivrok ships as their passengers remained on board helplessly going down with their ships. All of them crashed in fiery explosions, leaving no survivors. Those who were above ground or in the sky would cheer as the enemy perished all around them. Pratt, however, would watch the mother ship in concern, waiting for Jasmine to come out of it. Jasmine didn't, which made him even more worried for her chances of survival.

Meanwhile, in the command post, Adeline and Jim could feel the crashes all around them as they hovered over Talion's body. As the last of the ships fell to the earth, the shaking would cease and it would leave them in silence. What felt like an eternity later, the guard would pry the door off its hinges and scatter all throughout the room. Pratt would enter soon after and would see the wounded Talion lying on the floor, holding on by a single thread.

With tears in her eyes, Adeline would look up at him, "Please help him."

"We'll do our best your majesty." Pratt would say to her and would order the guards to take both Adeline and Talion to safety.

Jim would remain and would go up to the man once they took away his friends. "Have you seen Jasmine?" He asked, eyes filled with worry as he feared the worst.

"No, but I scattered my men throughout the city looking for survivors."

"Let me help find her."

Pratt looked at the boy, seeing the fear, anger, and exhaustion written on his face. "Look, I know you're worried, but you need to rest. The likelihood of Jasmine's survival is slim, and there's no telling what kind of shape she is in. For all we know, she could be dead."

Even though there was truth to Pratt's words, Jim refused to believe that. He wouldn't believe it, not after everything that he and Jasmine had been through. They survived Treasure Planet after all. Looking up at him, he would say with determination in his voice, "Then you don't know Jasmine. Even if she didn't have Braivrok DNA, she would still survive, because she's a natural survivor. Even if you tell me no, I'm still going to look for her."

Seeing that there was no way for him to say no, he would say, "Then I'm going with you."

As soon as he said that, the two and the remaining guards would walk out of the building. Smoke filled Jim's lungs as he breathed in the air. His eyes widened at the destruction in their wake. As they traveled through the city, Pratt and his men would lead Jim to where the mother ship had crashed. The ship had split in half from the light beam and fire surrounded it. It took time for the fire to be put out, and when it was time, they went carefully inside. Searching for survivors. They went through the front half of the ship and searched everywhere until they saw an unusual sight. A blue sphere surrounded Jasmine's body, which shielded her from the wreckage. Once the men entered, the sphere would disappear and once it did, Jim immediately ran to Jasmine's side.

"Jasmine? Jasmine, can you hear me? Please open your eyes!" Jim called to her, tears forming in his eyes as he begged for a response.

Jasmine, however, was not responsive. Jim's voice was rather faraway and soon it would be nonexistent, but she would have sworn that she heard Jim say something that he never said to her before. Everything faded in a blur, with no noise or anything. She was just weightless in darkness. Then all at once, noise filled her ears and slowly all her other senses kicked into gear. She slowly woke up and found herself in a bed in a white room. She groaned in pain as her stomach was patched up from the wound she received from Pierce.

"Easy, you took a heck of a beating there." A familiar voice says.

She looks over and sees the familiar face of Greer looking down at her. "Where am I?"

Greer stood next to her, her arm in a sling from the wound she received in from the gunshot to her shoulder. "You're in the hospital, along with everyone else."

"Everyone else? Is everyone okay?"

"Blake, Jim, Adaline, and Bryce are all safe. But Castor and Talion received the worst wounds, and the doctors believe they won't be using their wounded limbs fully. Castor's arm is going to be pretty much useless, and Talion is going to always have to limp when or if he walks. But they're alive."

Jasmine sighed in relief as she heard her friends were alive, but the effort caused her some pain and she groaned. "God, that hurts."

"I bet, it's honestly a miracle that you're even alive. That blast should have killed you, but I guess it's because of the Braivrok DNA giving you a boost." Greer says, wanting to help, but she wasn't sure what to do.

"I would say that I have had worse wounds, but I would be lying."

"Do you want me to get the doctor?"

She shakes her head, not in the mood to be poked and prodded, "No, but do you know where Jim is?"

"Everyone had to tell him to get some fresh air. He's been worried sick about you and hasn't left your side. He even slept in here." Greer answers, and as Jasmine looked at her, she would see that she was tired.

"Why don't you get some rest? You look like you need it."

"You sure you need nothing?"

Jasmine simply shakes her head."No, I'm good."

"Okay." She nods and would walk towards the door.

"Hey Greer?"

The former bully would turn around to face her, her expression no longer hostile. "Yeah?"

"I just wanted to say thanks."

A rare genuine smile would form on Greer's face as she walks out the door. Once she was alone, Jasmine would take a second to think before slowly sitting up. Her body ached in protest as she did this, but she continued her actions. Her stubbornness got the better of her, plus she strongly needed to see Jim. Slowly getting on her feet, she would take a moment to get her bearings.

"Are you sure that's wise?" Another voice echoed through the room and it would glow blue.

"L.E.T.A. I was wondering if you would show up." Jasmine smiles as she looks at the AI.

"You should be in bed."

"I probably should, but I'm stubborn and I need to see Jim. Can you take me to him?"

"Yes, but I could easily notify him you are awake."

She would shake her head. "No, I want to surprise him."

L.E.T.A. would let out a sigh, showing that there was more humanity in her than anyone would give her credit. "Very well, but if you fall over, I'm going to send an army of doctors on you."

"Noted."

The AI would create a blue light beam that would lead her out of the hospital room, and as she walked, Jasmine would see open doorways to the rooms where her friends were staying. Adeline stayed by Talion's side as he slept in one room, Blake and Bryce were goofing around in another, and Castor was talking to someone. It took her a moment for her to recognize that it was Trixie from the dance at the Benbow Inn. Jasmine didn't know that the two had remained in contact, and from the way the two were holding hands, they were more than just friends. She had been so focused on her own life, that she never paid attention to the lives of her friends. The girl vowed to do better now that she practically was given another chance at life. Including to do better with the best thing that ever happened to her, her relationship with Jim.

Author's Note: Hello everyone! Okay, so as you can see, I wasn't completely heartless with my characters. They're still alive, scarred both emotionally and physically, but alive. I think I'm going to make the next chapter the last one and just make it a nice long epilogue that will wrap things up. Thank you all for following along with this story and being patient with me! I seriously appreciate it! Especially Sirrah K for your continuous reviews! I will try to work on the epilogue, but until then, you can rest now as the war is over and the threats are gone.
