Patronus Maximus

Chapter LVII: Repercussions

Delos Island

Mediterranean Sea

"Sister, you felt that?"

"Of course, I did."

It was moments ago that the intense divine power appeared from the Far East. They felt this once before months ago and it seemed stronger now.

"Surely, we must confront him now."

The woman was tall with a well-built body honed over centuries of hunting in the wilderness. Her shoulder-length raven strawberry-blonde hair fluttered in the wind while her striking silver-blue eyes pierced the sky. The clothes she wore was a Greek chiton with leather armor for protection. In her left hand is a silver-moon bow etched with Greek letters and a white bowstring. A leather quiver filled with silver arrows hung over her right shoulder. She is Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the Hunt and Wilderness, Archery, Moon, and Childbirth and Maidenhood.

Artemis scoffed at her younger brother's words as she let loose an arrow. "You clearly need to have some brain remodeling."

"Hey!"

"Oh, stuff it, Apollo."

The man leaning against a massive boulder pouted like a child. He was tall and had the bronzed, muscular build of a lifeguard. His long golden hair is tied in a 'man bun' and his eyes shone like the sun itself. Unlike Artemis, his attire was more modern as it consisted of a sleeveless beach top, beige swimming trunks, and flip-flops. A metallic golden quiver full of sun-colored arrows hangs strapped over his left shoulder while a golden recurve bow etched with Greek letters rested in his right hand. This is Apollo, the Greek God of Archery, Prophecy, Light and Sun.

"Centuries old and you're still not respecting your older brother," Apollo pouted with puffy cheeks, receiving a steaming bump in the head.

The seething Artemis pulled back her leg and stood firmly before drawing an arrow. "I'm nine days older than you."

"Tomato, to-mah-to." Apollo ignored the bump on his head and released his arrow in the same direction as Artemis's arrow. "The point is that we felt his power and it should be us first."

"You were never battle-hungry ever, Apollo," Artemis noted to her twin, "What's changed?"

Releasing another arrow, the bemused Apollo pondered about his reason. "Boredom?"

"Are you asking or saying it?"

"Boredom," Apollo stated cheerily. "Things have been boring and the ascension of an unknown god from nowhere pops out? And he's an Amatsu-Kami on top of that."

Artemis hummed as she observed her brother's anticipated expression. He, like others in their family, must still feel bitter over the war between them and the Amatsu-Kami; there was no clear winner. This gauntlet of gods against the Kibō no Kami to determine his status towards the other pantheons would provide them some closure.

The closest thing to victory over the Shinto gods beneath actual war.

"Practicing your archery, my dears?" The twins turned around to see their cloaked mother approaching them. Instantly, they were by her side and helped the woman sit down on an earthly makeshift couch. "Anxious?"

"Yes/no." Apollo and Artemis answered at the same time.

Leto chuckled amusingly, "No matter how centuries went by, you two still act like children."

"Not me, but Sunhead here does," Artemis said to throw him under the bus.

"Hey!"

The screech of an avian attracted the three deities' attention to the sky. It was a huge majestic white eagle with shimmering rainbow feathers and a lightning-colored beak. The symbol of Zeus and his sacred animal. As the creature flew over them, a small object fell to the ground until Artemis caught it: a papyrus.

"That must be it," Apollo said excitedly.

Artemis deadpanned at him, "No, Captain Obvious," She said sarcastically.

"Who's chosen?" Leto asked her only daughter.

It was there when everything changed for the Twin Archers of Olympus.

Amaterasu's Throne Room

Imperial Palace, Takamagahara

The first thing he wanted to do after battling the Three Great Yōkai was to go home to his family. The dispersed clones he sent to the hospital had dispersed to inform him of the civilians' safety. He was going to use the kyomachi when the de-transformed Naruto suddenly found himself standing in the throne room with other gods.

"Hey guys, what's going on?" The unhooded Naruto asked the present company whose stunned expressions prompted another question. "Guys?"

"It's true," Tenjin said in awe.

"What is?"

"Why him?"

Glancing at the black-haired god who looked ready to set him on fire, Naruto shifted his sight on the fox god. "Lord Inari, what's going on?"

"Look at your hand," Inari answered while pointing at the god's limb.

Naruto did so and found Ame-no-Murakumo in his grip, "What about it? It's just the—oh, I get it now."

"He's holding one of the Imperial Regalia and all he could say is 'I get it now'?" Takemikazuchi said exasperatedly. "First Kogitsunemaru, now the Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi? Who is he?!"

Hachiman approached Naruto and politely bowed to him. "Hello, God of Hope. I am Hachiman, the God of Archery and War. It is a pleasure to meet you."

"Ah yeah, same here," Naruto bowed back respectfully. "Actually, there are a few of you who I haven't seen before."

Before those whom Naruto had not been introduced to can do so, Amaterasu spoke aloud, "Everyone take your seats." All did so, including the Ninja God as he placed Ame-no-Murakumo flat on his knees. "Naruto, there is something I must say to you."

"This is the first time I've seen her serious," A surprised Naruto noted internally. "Yes, Tamae?"

"Tamae?" Kagutsuchi repeated with a sneer. "How dare he call Her Majesty so informally?"

"Congratulations on your victory of the Three Great Yōkai," Amaterasu commended her brotherly figure. "And your achievement of being Ame-no-Murakumo's new master, which is no easy feat."

Susanoo scoffed under breath, "That's the understatement of the year."

"Why?" Naruto asked curiously.

"The incident."

Looking at Susanoo, Naruto asked the obvious question, "What incident?"

"You recall the story of Yamato Takeru?"

"Who doesn't know it?"

Tenjin cleared his throat audibly to take over the narrative, "What you don't know is that after Princess Yamatohime-no-Mikoto gave to her nephew Ame-no-Murakumo, Yamato Takeru sought to use it to overthrow the Emperor at the time because he could not wield the power safely. It got to his head near the end of his life until finally Yamato did not bring the sword with him and died on the battlefield."

"That's… rough. Does this mean that Ame-no-Murakumo is a weapon only for the gods?" Naruto asked, receiving a nod from the present Amatsu-Kami. "What would've happened if I hadn't ascended months ago?"

"And that he was not chosen by the sword as its master," Hachiman added that piece of information. "Since then, the tsurugi remained in the armory without choosing any individuals until now, that is."

So, Naruto is the first actual master of Ame-no-Murakumo? For that reason, the Ninja God could not help but smile at his most recent accomplishment.

"And that carries great responsibility for our pantheon," Tenjin informed calmly. "As one who carries one of the Imperial Regalia, there are most certainly going to have a lot of eyes upon you, God of Hope."

"And you carry great responsibility for it as well," Bishamon inputted seriously.

Naruto blinked owlishly from the war god's words, "Because it's one of the Imperial Regalia?"

"That's one, but there is another reason," Amaterasu clarified as Naruto listened intently. "Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi is made out of Hihi'irokane."

"Hihi'irokane?" Naruto repeated aloud. "Brilliant Scarlet Metal?" The English translation for the ore.

Inari nodded before explaining, "Much like the Olympians' Adamantine and the Asgardians' Uru, we have a divine ore and that is Hihi'irokane." He assumed a solemn expression, "I stand corrected: it 'was'."

"Something happened to the ore?" Naruto asked as if it was obvious.

"Unlike the other pantheons, the supply of the ore was severely limited," Inari explained, getting an 'oh' from his adopted son. "We had to choose very careful about our weapons and armor."

Naruto interjected from there, "Then are the other Imperial Regalia made of Hihi'irokane as well?" Nods came from all the gods. "Wait, this doesn't make sense."

"What doesn't?" Susanoo asked the younger god.

"You said that all the Imperial Regalia is made of Hihi'irokane," Naruto commented as Susanoo agreed with him. "But you found this—" He pointed at Ame-no-Murakumo, "—inside of Yamata-no-Orochi after slicing his heads off."

Tenjin let out an exasperated groan, "Don't remind us. That remains one of the mysteries here in Takamagahara."

"Just a wild guess, but is it possible that the big snake could've eaten a trove of Hihi'irokane at some point in his life?" Naruto asked as the gods perked up. "If so, couldn't have you guys retrace Orochi's whereabouts during his lifetime?" He and the other gods looked at the storm god who looked a little nervous.

"It was a massive snake," Susanoo emphasized strongly.

Hachiman raised a hand, "But Orochi lived in Izumo his whole life, Susanoo." The gods including Naruto stiffened when they realized it. "Doesn't that mean a vein of Hihi'irokane lays buried somewhere in the prefecture?" All looked at the storm god who started to sweat on the spot.

"… W-Well…"

"Baka," Amaterasu insulted from her spot next to Naruto, startling him and the others.

"When did she get here?" And how did he not sense her? "She's scary." Naruto noted as Tamae hummed next to him like a child her appearance would do.

"But it's been centuries and the landscape's changed several times since then," Kagutsuchi pointed as matter-of-fact. "The humans' industrial capacities probably built their cities over the vein."

Tamae hummed audibly, drawing attention from her subjects, "Still, we must find out. Inari, Hachiman, and Tenjin, send your messengers to look for any ore sites."

"Hai, Your Majesty!" The aforementioned gods said respectfully.

"Everyone else is dismissed," Amaterasu remarked as almost everyone took their leave. "Except you two." She pointed to her brothers who remained in the room. "NARUTOOOO!" She tackled him to the ground, hugging the ninja with worry. "I was so worried!"

Luckily, Naruto had placed the sword away before Tamae latched onto him so she could be safe. "It's okay, Tamae. I'm fine, mostly."

After an hour of comforting his 'adoptive sister' and another matter, Naruto returned home through the basement from Takamagahara. Upon walking through the door to the living room, the Ninja God was greeted by blank stares of the women. "Hello, everyone." He said before being hugged by Lara, Medusa and Kuroka. "I'm fine, girls, really."

"Are you sure/Really/Let me check." Medusa, Kuroka and Lara said respectively.

"I'm sorry I worried you all." Naruto apologized before they broke the hug. The standing girls returned to the couch while Naruto pecked Rhea and Saeko's head. "And the twins?" He asked Saeko.

The purple-haired mother sighed before answering, "They're fine, dear, but you should see them."

"You put on quite the show, Naruto," Rhea commented as Naruto sat on the floor. "How do you feel?"

"Fine, mostly."

"You're sure, Hubby?" Kuroka asked nervously. "I mean you just fought the Three Great Yōkai who scared even the mightiest of daiyokai."

Naruto nodded strongly. "Yes, but they were strong." He started to roll his shoulders. "Otakemaru was obviously stronger and he challenged me in my base form." The god continued to explain his bout with the three daiyōkai. "In the end though, it seems my Hōpushin Modo is the killing blow."

"…"

"Ladies?"

"…"

"I think you broke them."

Naruto looked at the chibi Tailed Beasts after they materialized out of his body. "I kind of expected this, but it's a little off-putting to be honest." Suddenly, Saeko reached for him, more specifically the sword on his back. He stopped her from doing so, "Saeko, you can only see, not touch."

"But it is an Imperial Regalia!" Saeko replied gleefully. "The Ame-no-Murakumo nonetheless."

Seeing the others' similar expectant looks, Naruto cracked a proud smile and pulled the sword from his back. He placed it on the coffee table, allowing his family to see the legendary weapon of Japanese mythology. Contrary to its first appearance, Ame-no-Murakumo has its blade perfectly fitted in a clean black sheath.

In the legends, there was no sheath mentioned for the tsurugi. Amaterasu commissioned one to be made in Takamagahara from the bark of the Ame-no-Mihashira so Naruto can carry it safely in his adventures. It was why it took him hours to come home.

While Saeko, Lara, and Kuroka stared marvelously at the weapon, Naruto's stomach growled loudly. "I'm hungry~" The stomachs of the Tailed Beasts echoed his sentiment as well.

"So are we," The beasts chorused together.

Both Rhea and Medusa chuckled before standing up, "Dinner will be ready soon."

"Then I'll go see the kids," Naruto stood up and walked up the stairs with his tenants following him.

"Huh?" The trio said in response, not paying attention in favor for looking at the Imperial Regalia in front of them.

Once night arrived, the family was sound asleep except its head. Naruto stood in front of the closet that housed his hero armor and equipment. He gazed at the new weapon with awe and respect, listening to its unique language. "Ame-no-Murakumo… I still can't believe you chose me. I hope I can live up to your expectations."

The sword glowed dimly as if it was responding to him.

"Yeah, I've been thinking about them."

Them being Shuten, Tamamo, and Otakemaru as his mind recalled the last moment with them.

-(Flashback Begins)-

Tokyo Bay

Tokyo, Honshu, Japan

Blinking in surprise, Naruto with Ame-no-Murakumo in hand looked at his surroundings. Everything and everywhere was whiter than snow itself. It happened after he cleaved Otakemaru in half.

'Oh God, am I dead?' A horrified Naruto asked himself internally. 'Not again!'

'No, you're not dead, baka!' The Tailed Beasts comedically shouted at him.

After cringing, Naruto patted himself down with his free hand, sighing in relief. "Oh right…" He blinked owlishly when three small spheres of potent ki remained suspended in front of him. "The Soul Cores."

Said cores glowed before three figures materialized out of them, alerting Naruto for another possible fight. He relaxed when the figures turned out to be young children. Otakemaru's child form had very little horns, somewhat tanned skin complexion and grey eyes. Tamamo's current form had long puffy orange hair tied in twin ponytails, pale skin, and bright red eyes. Shuten Douji was smaller compared to the other two with short black hair. They all wore kimonos of red, blue, and green.

"What is this?" Naruto asked more to himself than to the trio.

"W-who are you mister?" Tamamo no Mae answered meekly, a contrast to her earlier attitude.

'Did she—did they lose their memories?'

Shuten cried out as he lunged at Naruto, "Taste defeat!" He gasped when Patronus caught him in the air before trying to kick him, but failed. At least he is still the same despite his current form.

"You're too weak to do anything, kid," Naruto smirked when Shuten got an angry tick-mark before he let go of him. "Do you have anything to do with this?"

The trio of weakened daiyōkai saw him ask the sword in his hand as it continued to glow its holy power.

"Really? You did that? For them?" Patronus asked with his head gesturing to the trio. The sword glowed intermittently, "Their inner kindness and my desire?"

'Inner kindness?' Otakemaru thought curiously. "Who are you, mister?"

Naruto thought long and hard about this. What does Ame-no-Murakumo wants him to do with the three? Kill them? If so, then they would not be standing here. And his desire with their inner kindness? A riddle? He hates this kind of thing. Why can't it be easy like 'give them a second chance or have them live as—'

"You son of a…" Naruto paused midway in front of the curious kids, "Itchbay."

"Icthbay?" The trio asked curiously.

Naruto stabbed the sword next to him and knelt in front of the three, beckoning them to come close. They refused, prompting the Ninja God to do the one thing that might haunt him and his family in the future. He pulled back his hood, revealing his spiky blue hair and silver eyes with the thickened whisker-like marks on his cheeks. The sign of his Hōpushin Modo still active.

Mesmerized by his appearance, the children slowly approached him. "What's your name, mister?"

"… Musasabi. Musasabi Naruto."

"Who are we?" Tamamo asked nervously. "Who are you?"

"…" This was difficult, but Naruto chose to do it. "You three were individuals who suffered a lot by others who did not understand you, feared you."

"Because we're different from them?" Shuten asked incensed about the humans' ignorance. "Did we hurt them?"

"… You did because of the pain in your hearts."

Otakemaru gulped before asking the god, "And… did you stop us?"

Naruto slowly nodded, "I did, but I had a deep feeling that all you ever wanted was to have someone listen to you." He and the trio saw the Soul Cores materialized from their chests. "I see. Ame-no-Murakumo destroyed the malice and hatred inside your souls, which is… which is why we are here."

"What do you mean?" Shuten asked somewhat impatiently.

"A second chance."

"A what?"

"A… a re-do." Naruto simplified for their sake. "If you want it, of course."

"Will you come with us?" Tamamo asked in a whimper.

A solemn and unsure look took over Naruto's face as he gently patted Tamamo's head. "I do not know where you will go, but I will find out if you are with good people."

"Humans are bad people, but you seem good to us," Otakemaru said to the god. "Can we stay with you?"

Before Naruto could give him an answer, the young yōkais' bodies were turning invisible. "Is time running out?" Ame-no-Murakumo glowed in response. "I can't take them with me?" The weapon answered once more. "But I don't know where they will go. I should—"

"Brother Naruto, help us!" Tamamo hugged Naruto tightly, not wanting to go. "Please take us with you!"

Perhaps of his paternal instincts, Naruto hugged her back before Otakemaru and Shuten pulled Tamamo way. He placed his hands on the nervous males. "I do not know where you will end up or whom will take care of you. Your memories of your previous lives are not gone entirely; they may return, but I don't know when."

"But humans are bad, aren't they?" Shuten asked nervously, contrast to his earlier attitude.

"There are bad humans, but there are good humans too." Naruto told him honestly, "There are also bad yōkai, but good ones as well. You must live among them until your memories come back."

"But… but what if we… don't want to go back or what if we want to hurt people?" Tamamo asked whimpering, "Are you going to stop us?"

Naruto did not answer what she and the others thought he would, "No…because I have faith in the three of you that your choices will reflect your upbringings." Tamamo sniffed her nose while Shuten tried to look tough and Otakemaru nonchalant but afraid. "Live free and endure all this world offers."

The light ended when the trio disappeared into their Soul Cores and vanished into the sky, leaving behind Naruto standing on Tokyo Bay.

-(Flashback Ends)-

He'd just came back from his latest flight in Tokyo, searching for the trio by their ki. To his surprise, the trio were just born as fraternal triplets to a working-class family. They did not have a lot, but Naruto saw the love and care the parents showed to the trio, leaving him with hope of their upbringing.

They have a true second chance and Naruto hopes that they will judge humanity after living amongst them. He will keep watch on them to stave any potential dangers.

The Ninja God was brought out of his musings by Ame-no-Murakumo's latest words.

"You like my family?" A surprised Naruto asked. "Well, you certainly made a lasting impression with them, especially those three." By three, he means Kuroka, Lara, and Saeko. "Are there more abilities that you have I might have to know?"

Again, the sword glowed in response.

"When will I learn these?" Naruto asked curiously before hearing something from his wife.

"Naruto, come to bed…"

Heeding Saeko's words, Naruto closed the closet, but not before saying, "Good night, partner."

Standing in the conference room, Maria Hill watched the news feed of Patronus's bout with Three Great Yōkai in Tokyo Bay. Her hands clenched the inside of her arms until the battle ended. It was her twentieth time and she still feel anxious from her conclusion.

"Patronus is strong," Hill commented as she looked at another headline from a Tokyo newspaper.

American Hero an Actual God?

Another headline read…

Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi's Chosen Master?

The following articles had the other titles regarding Japan.

Fear of Yōkai Grips Nation.

Prime Minister and Imperial Family in Meeting.

Patronus: Hero or Killer?

Hero the Next Yamato Takeru?

"Another god wielding a legendary, powerful weapon on Earth?" On the same hero team that is, "That's just what we need," Hill remarked sarcastically. "It may be the newspapers trying to drum up sales, but…"

"Director Hill, Director Portal is on the channel."

Hill dismissed the informing agent and pressed a button to let the call go through. The holographic image shifted the news aside and revealed a mechanical armored man with yellow gold and brown scheme. His helmet has a red visor akin to the Corinthian 'T' shape with long dual ribbon from the back. This is the Director of A.R.M.O.R., Charles Little Sky or Portal.

{Director Hill, have you seen the news?}

"The world has seen it, Portal," Hill retorted. "Have you tracked him?"

{The last we located him was somewhere in Kyoto after his departure from Tokyo.}

"Nothing else?"

{Unfortunately, no.}

"Damn it." Hill pondered her next move. "Try to triangulate a point of origin for Patronus's breaches. I want every possibility no matter how random they may look."

{That will take time to compile the data.}

"I want the list as soon as possible." Hill said strongly as she maximized a photo of Patronus and Otakemaru engaged in sword-lock. "Now before he becomes out of our reach."

{Yes, ma'am.}

The call ended with Hill punching the table in frustration before looking at the data pad. Its contents did not please her, "From his research, Patronus's numbers have jumped dramatically than six months ago. He must calculate for future numbers and build to withstand any possible damage. If this continues, we may not be able to hold him physically."

The fact that he can create tornados and fight mostly with martial arts as a god makes him even more dangerous than Hill ever imagined.

She stared at the photo that had Patronus and crunched it in her grip. Her vow to bring him may have to resort to drastic and subtle measures.

Training Field

Homestead Grounds, Forested Massachusetts

Sitting in seiza was Naruto with the brothers, Lara, and Saeko. The latter two were ready for training, but the turtles became a different story. They just sat dumbfounded while inspecting Naruto as if he was the latest trend in the world right now. Well, not him but the weapon laying in the space between them.

"Ame-no-Murakumo…is real," Leo said in utter disbelief.

Donny repeated his mantra of 'science is fact' while continuing to look at the weapon. Rafael and Mikey each tried to reach for the sword, but their hands got swatted by Naruto. "Ouch!" They cried out while holding their bumped and swollen hands.

"You shouldn't touch since it'll make you mad with power," Naruto scolded the brothers, causing them to gulp nervously. "How are you guys? How do you feel?" He gestured at the oldest of the quartet. "Leo?" No answer came from the turtle and Naruto flicked a pebble at the latter's forehead. "You awake?"

Wincing from rubbing the spot where the pebble hit him, Leo answered his ninjutsu master, "I feel lighter than before. My senses are heightened, sharper."

"Same here," Donny supported his brother's words. "My entire body feels looser and when I walk, I feel like I'm on clouds."

Mikey nodded vigorously, "I'm certainly faster than before since Raf can't catch me anymore!" He was instantly caught in Raphael's one-arm lock.

"I got you now!" Raphael decreed victoriously before rubbing Mikey's head with his knuckles. "NOOGIE!" He and Mikey cried when they got hit by Naruto, evident in the bumps on their heads.

Pulling back his steaming fist, Naruto huffed and the brothers calmed down, "Knock it off." He glanced at the troublemaking brothers, "How about you, Raf? Feel any different?"

"I'm stronger now," Raphael answered after Mikey escaped from his hold. "That's about it."

Naruto nodded before asking them, "How is your ki training thus far?" Instantly, the atmosphere turned depressing as a figurative dark cloud hovered the trauma-stricken brothers. "Well?" He ignored their depression.

"Hell," Leo surmised for everyone, which his brothers agreed vocally. "Pure, utterly traumatizing and soul-breaking Hell."

Naruto snorted under breath while Lara and Saeko rolled their eyes, "Come on, that was just level two of Leone's training." They all snickered at the brothers' horrifyingly disbelieved faces.

"Level two?!" The brothers exclaimed exasperatedly. "How many are there?" Donny asked for his brothers.

The trio shrugged their shoulders before Naruto answered, "Hell if I know. If you manage to find out, tell us."

"What are you guys at?" Leo asked wantonly.

It was Lara who answered this time, "The ladies are at level nine now and Naruto is level thirty-four."

"Huh?!" The brothers exclaimed in shock.

Naruto clapped his hands once, "Okay, let's get to training!" Before the brothers could protest, four clones appeared and dragged them away. "Well, ladies, are you ready?" Saeko and Lara stood on their feet with Naruto as he picked up his weapon. "Let's go." They walked to another part of the field where there were training dummies next to archery targets.

Lara held Ame-no-Makakoyumi as she stood behind a line in front of the targets while Naruto and Saeko unsheathed Ame-no-Murakumo and Dōjikiri Yasutsuna, respectively. Their day of training commenced and the brothers' hell began when the clones attacked them with nothing but simple attacks.

The Ancient One stood in front of an Eldtrich hologram that showed the bout between Patronus and the daiyōkai. She watched every detail of the battle in Tokyo Bay, especially the last few minutes when Ame-no-Murakumo was claimed to Otakemaru's last moments upended by Patronus's hands.

"He's grown stronger compared to six months ago," Wong observed from behind his leader. "And he only transformed to deliver the killing blow."

"With one Imperial Regalia in his possession," Kaecilius inputted curtly. He like the rest of the Masters are wary of a legendary weapon in the hands of an unknown. "If his strength continues to grow at this rate, he might become a very dangerous threat to everyone on Earth."

The Ancient One nodded with one of her disciples' words. "He has gotten stronger since then, which is unusual for a god." Usually, gods are so prideful of their inherent abilities that they do not see the need to train. "And yet Patronus is the cut from a different cloth. He is wise enough to know there are more powerful beings than even gods."

"Do you think he is training right now?" Wong asked his teacher. "If he is, that is serious dedication to improving one's self."

"I do."

"What should we do, Master?" Kaecilius asked her.

"Nothing of course. He is no threat to the Masters of the Mystic Arts, but his godhood has been revealed to the world now." The Ancient One assumed a thinking pose, "His reaction to this will show more of his character."

Wong's eyes quirked as if he was unsure, "What do you mean?"

"Patronus has remained in the shadows for almost all of his hero career." The Ancient One explained to him, "Since the world knows, there is bound to be someone or two who may not tolerate his presence. How he reacts is key in the future."

Kaecilius remained silent while Wong pondered about their master's words. A moment later, they were interrupted by the sight of a magic circle on their left flank. Both disciples readied their Mandela shields until the Ancient One raised her hand, ordering them to stand down.

Emerging from the magic circle was a young woman of Asian descent and astonishingly beauty in a black kimono. Wong and even Kaecilius felt flustered by her appearance that they were snapped out of it from their master's fingers. "Leave us." They did so, leaving behind the Ancient One and the visitor. "I take it you've accepted my tutelage."

"Yes, I did," Kuroka answered resolutely. She was in her human form and had fixed her kimono appropriately before arriving. "When do we start?"

The Ancient One conjured her Mandela shields in the form of folding fans, "Now."

"Good," Kuroka's magic circles formed behind her, each filled with the five elements. "I must take any opportunity to be better." For her daughter and her clan.

Mount Kurama

Kyoto Prefecture, Honshu, Japan

The daitengu of the mountain remained on his throne along with the daiyōkai. They called an emergency meeting because of the situation after the bout between Patronus the god and the vile Three Great Yōkai. News of the human riots in suburban areas and the countryside arose where a great portion of their species lived in rather than in urban cities.

There were no casualties nor exposure of the nigitama, but time will tell. And they cannot just wait and see what happens.

"Lord Sōjōbo, we must do something with the humans."

"…"

"There are groups of anti-yōkai humans who are searching into the homes of suspected yōkai, but the heroes and local authorities are detaining these groups." The tengu reported to his lord, "The aratama on the other hand are the problem. They feel inspired by the Three Yōkai and want to come out of the shadows, thus endangering the nigitama in the country with their actions. It is only a matter of time when the Exorcists are called in to destroy us."

One of the kitsune stepped forward, "Abe no Seimei would not let them on the mainland to do such thing."

"The young one, although out of turn, is correct." Sōjōbo affirmed while his shakujō floated behind him. "Since the massacre, not one descendant of the twelve families and their associates are allowed to leave their island unless Seimei himself authorizes them."

"But—"

"However, we won't stand around and do nothing." Sōjōbo said strongly. "Send word to all yōkai communities and have them be alert of aratama and violent humans. If the situation becomes worrisome, all must flee to the mountains or their designated sanctuaries."

With a tap of his shakujō, the meeting has ended with all but the daitengu. He remained in his throne, pondering about his species' future. Now their existence is confirmed globally, paranoid groups and individuals will seek them out for their destruction. Perhaps they might have to reconsider Seimei and All Might's alliance proposition.

Still he remains wary of the hero who triumphed over the likes of Shuten Dōji, Tamamo no Mae, and Otakemaru. Sōjōbo like many of the yōkai felt the power all the way from Tokyo and concluded definitively that Patronus is a god of the Shinto pantheon. Unlike the rest of the Amatsu-Kami, Patronus's godly energy is calm but unrelenting like nature.

And from what they had seen of him, he did not boast his victory to the world, which says something in this age.

This is becoming tiresome as Sōjōbo decided to eat a snack and left for the kitchen area, carrying his shakujō. There is more to think about, but not on an empty stomach.

That was something no one on the Avengers would ever thought to hear from one Tony Stark. They all stared at the man sans armor walk to the open bar and pour himself a drink. He noticed his teammates' gaze on and asked the obvious question.

"What?"

"Jarvis, is there a full moon tonight?" A stunned Clint asked the AI.

{No, there is not, which is odd given that the anomaly happened.}

"I know," Steve said with wonder.

"What?" Tony asked a little annoyed this time.

Janet was the one who answered for all members, "You refused interviews?" She said in awe. "This is a first." The woman chuckled aloud as she sank into the couch. "Patronus on the team is doing wonders."

Tony let out an exhausted groan before sitting on a stool, "Even for me, 200 interviews is too much."

"So Patronus's godhood is known," Thor remarked aloud, "Truth be told, this might be for the better. Now everyone knows that the Avengers has two gods in its numbers!"

Natasha paused in the middle of her stingers' recalibration, "That battle though… why didn't he call us for help?" She wondered aloud.

"For what?" Clint countered while eating a Reuben sandwich. "From the looks of it, he handled it very well."

"And he's got a new weapon." Natasha observed on the sword in Patronus's grip. "The reports and Patronus's words have it confirmed to be the Ame-no-Murakumo sword."

"What's so special about it?" Tony asked lazily.

Natasha looked over the couch and replied, "At one point in Japan's history, it was considered the weapon of the Emperor and whoever holds it is the ruler."

"Patronus is a king?" Tony asked in shock before laughing heartily at Thor. "Ha! Guess he became one before you, Point Break."

Thor growled in not-so-subtle jealous before heading to the balcony, "I shall return."

"Are you going to challenge Patronus again?" Steve asked knowingly, which Thor sheepishly rubbed his fingers on Mjolnir when he stopped in his tracks. "He's going to refuse every time you ask."

Natasha cleared her throat audibly. "That was the case with the sword, but not in this day and age." She clarified to her teammates. "It means Patronus is not the new Emperor nor do I think he wants to be one. It's not in his character."

"Should we call him in?" Steve asked the spy.

Clint scoffed at the idea, "What for? It's not like he did anything wrong."

"…He killed someone on global broadcast."

The room became awkwardly silent when Natasha said the word that no hero should undertake against anyone.

"But his opponents were monsters who threatened innocent lives," Thor countered defensively, "Patronus only did to monsters what I do to Jotnar in Asgard's defense."

"There are people including officials who think otherwise." Tony retorted oppositely, "Add the fact that he's an Avenger and one of the Hero Association's founders means the he is under scrutiny."

The age-old question: is it murder or killing when the slain is non-human?

"The yokai as they were called are supposed to be the strongest and caused trouble back then."

"But they were living beings just like everything else on the planet." Steve countered back, "That must be taken into account too."

"… Are we… considering kicking Patronus off the team?" Janet asked hesitatingly. She hopes not since it took a few years for him to join the team. "I mean… are we?"

"I do not know," Steve replied at a loss. "We need to talk with Patronus and debrief him."

Thor shook his head, "Nay, Captain." He disapproved this action, "Patronus would not like to be questioned of his recent actions that saved lives."

"At the cost of other lives?"

"…"

It was Natasha who spoke up, "I've killed before long ago." She admitted while Clint placed an assuring hand on her shoulder.

"So did I," Clint revealed in solidarity.

It was no secret that the archer and spy were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who undertook rather unscrupulous missions. The nature of these missions usually involves casualties whether in self-defense or intentional. Yet they are members of the team without question. This goes back to one of the unspoken topics in the world: is it worth having people on teams who can do what no one would or want to do?

"… Anyone want a drink?"

The sullen atmosphere was broken by a chorus of 'yes' to Tony's suggestion as the latter brought out the hard stuff from the cabinet.

Throne Room

Imperial Palace, Takamagahara

The news reached the queen from Hachiman of the task. He confirmed that a previously hidden trove of Hihi'irokane ore was hidden in a small mountain by the nature gods in the area. The vein was located near Yamata-no-Orochi's former home before his defeat by Susanoo in the distant past.

Now they can mine the Hihi'irokane and bring it back to their realm. Weapons, armor, even clothing can be fashioned from the ore. The question is the amount of the metal in the area. From the initial report, there seems to be a great amount to forge equipment, but the totality is unknown as of yet.

Nevertheless, they now have a supply of their realm's divine metal for the first time in centuries.

"And it's all thanks to Naruto!" Amaterasu said gleefully.

Susanoo chuckled at his sister's child-like attitude, "He should be added to the Seven Gods of Fortune. His luck is unparalleled."

"How we did not think about the ore in that location sooner is beyond me," Inari remarked off-handedly. "Maybe we need a God of Knowledge in our pantheon."

"Still, we should be careful with the ore," Susanoo warned softly, "We do not know the exact amount we mine from the site. We must be conservative."

Both Amaterasu and Inari nodded in agreement, "You're right about that, but I think we should reward Naruto for this."

"What?" Susanoo asked in disbelief. "Sister, he has Ame-no-Murakumo as his main weapon. What more could he get?"

"The sword isn't a gift, Lord Susanoo," Inari corrected respectfully, "It chose Naruto as its master. There's a difference."

"… Even so, I do not think he needs something."

Amaterasu pouted in response, "I still think he should be rewarded."

"Weapons and armor are out of the question as he already has those," Both Ame-no-Murakumo and the Kibō-nin no Yoroi (Hope Ninja Armor) crafted by Inari and used in Naruto's hero career. "Maybe an accessory."

Susanoo snorted almost immediately, receiving a cute glare from his sister. "Jewelry? Come on, sis. He's a fighter."

"Actually, that might not be a bad idea, Your Majesty," Inari concurred as Amaterasu beamed at him, "And I think I know what it should be."

(The Next Day)

Horizon Labs

Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America

"This is not good."

That was the twentieth time he said in the past ten minutes. Naruto stared at his hitai-ate (forehead protector) which had a large crack-like gash across the Konoha symbol and smaller cracks around it. He prevented it being cracked by channeling chakra to reinforce the durability, but the battle with the Three Great Yōkai must've been too much. Even now, he channels chakra to the metal so it would not break completely.

His new weapon, Ame-no-Murakumo, rests in its sheath on his back while the left sleeve of his cloak was restored back in Takamagahara.

"I need to be more careful," Naruto whispered before tying the hitai-ate back on. He continued waiting for the CEO who is in a meeting with shareholders. Max walked through the door and greeted the hero warmly. "How are you?"

"I'm fine, Max. How about you?"

"Good, good, I just came from a meeting." Max sat down in his seat.

"What's up?"

Max sighed before getting to the point, "Horizon Labs is expanding."

"Didn't you guys already do that in San Francisco?" Patronus asked the man.

"Yes, but we're expanding internationally," Max emphasized excitedly, "That's what the meeting I was in about. And it is all thanks to you."

A surprised Patronus pointed at himself, "Me?"

"Your bout with the Three Yōkai monsters and knowledge of my company's association has more investors pouring in," Max answered back, "Of course, most of them are in China and East Asia."

"They want a branch there?"

"Yeah. And they've heard what we are doing for law enforcement, so they'd like to partake in our endeavor."

"Really?" Naruto asked before turning to his thoughts, "Was my fight with the daiyōkai broadcasted?" If so, then he will have a tougher time remaining in the shadows. "Congratulations then, Max."

"Thank you, thank you, Patronus," Max answered happily. "Lunch is on me today."

Naruto clasped his gloved hands, "Yes!"

"To the pizza parlor!"

"Double yes!" Patronus exclaimed before putting his arms down, "But I need to do something first."

"What?"

To Max's surprise, Patronus slammed the wall, or more precisely, the person pinned against it. "Who are you?" He asked, pressing his forearm more. "Oh, it's you."

"Yes, it's me."

The last thing Max saw was his colleague and the apparently invisible intruder disappearing in a light not unlike the sun.

Hero's Association Headquarters

Tokyo, Honshu, Japan

Walking past the staring eyes of civilians and fellow heroes, a recovered All Might reached his destination: the office of the H.A.'s director. "You wanted to see me?"

"Did you know, All Might?"

"About what exactly, Director?"

"Patronus being a god, All Might." The Director stated firmly. Clearly, she is not pleased. "Did you know?"

"… No, I did not." In fact, he did sometime after the Siege of Boston. "Is it bad?"

"There are officials in the government who are upset that Patronus kept his deity status and believe he might be a traitor." All Might clenched his fists in anger. "I disagreed and told them in a meeting that he has reasons for keeping such information a secret. They even asked from which pantheon Patronus hails from."

"Otakemaru called him the God of Hope," All Might pointed out, "If one of the Three Great Yōkai is familiar with an unknown god and one of the Imperial Regalia chose him, then Patronus might be from the Shinto pantheon." He is of the Shinto pantheon.

"A god of hope in our country's pantheon?" The director asked somewhat incredulously. "No one has ever heard of such deity before." She hummed in thought. "Unless he was made a member in recent years."

And there is an opening. "Patronus's deeds are global with Akatsuki, the mutants, and the Siege of Boston." All Might snapped his fingers in realization. "That surge of power he showed must've been his ascension into the pantheon." Sort of since Patronus was already in the pantheon long and a deity before his full ascension.

"And he must've wanted to keep it under wraps until he processed it," The director surmised to herself. "I mean being a hero is one thing, but becoming a god? That is a whole other level of self-being."

All Might nodded as he agreed with her, "Okay, this is good."

"I'll call up a press conference and elaborate Patronus's status as our nation's pantheon member."

"That's a bad idea, Director," All Might told her, "This is Patronus's business so he should make the decision."

The director hummed as she thought about this situation. Patronus is one of the Hero Association's core founders yet he has never done any press releases during his entire career. If he chooses not to do one, then Patronus and the H.A.'s reputation may suffer backlash from the population because of his formerly secret identity as a god.

But Patronus has never steered them wrong before.

"… Talk to Patronus when you can and get him here since we can figure out this situation."

"I will, Director."

All Might took his leave and left the office for not home, but the training field. Waiting for him are tons of humongous weights tailored for those with super strength. He stared at them with determination while the Association's employees stared at him.

"Never again."

Images of his intense fight and defeat by Shuten Dōji flashed through his mind. The daiyōkai was by far the strongest villain All Might had ever faced and he lost to his strength. Naruto once told him that there were always people better than themselves and complacency is a deadly enemy.

Snorting like a bull, All Might grabbed hold of the weights and lifted it over his head. He grunted when it started to get heavier by the second, forcing him to exert more strength. "The R&D's people invented these to put fifty times the resistance and weight of the person lifting it."

"All Might is training?"

It was Hizamaru from one of the earliest hero graduates. He stood with Michelle and Shokichi as they were by a rather complicated climbing wall. They too were in the middle of daily training when All Might arrived.

"That's what it looks like," Shokichi affirmed, sweating from his brow.

Michelle crossed her arms, watching All Might lift the oversized weights. "His first defeat most likely triggered this course of action. Patronus has repeatedly told him to train and it's come to bite him in the ass."

"Are we worried about the people's faith in him?" Hizamaru asked his senpais.

"No."

"Then should we be worried about All Might himself?"

"No."

Now Hizamaru is annoyed by their responses, "Why not?"

"If he wasn't doing this right now in front of us, then we should be worried," Shokichi elaborated as a fact, "All Might suffered defeat and now strives to be better than he was before."

Michelle nodded in agreement, "And he has a rival."

"Rival?" Hizamaru asked slightly surprised. "Who?"

"The person who defeated the one whom beat him."

Patronus. All Might see him as a rival for emerging victorious over not only Shuten Dōji, but Tamamo no Mae and Otakemaru. The former whom he could not defeat.

Though they may never admit it to his face, Michelle knew that she, Shokichi, and Hizamaru admire Patronus for his unwavering dedication to people's safety and incredible power.

"Should we invite him to join us?" Hizamaru asked his friends.

Before they could answer, All Might stopped mid-lift and looked at them. "Do you three want to train with me?"

Slightly intimidated by the sight of the weights over the hero, Shokichi shook it off and nodded, "I'm in." He walked towards All Might, followed by a silent Michelle.

"… Eh, what the hell?" Hizamaru relented as he walked to join the trio.

Delos Island

Mediterranean Sea

High above the legendary floating island occurred a strong shockwave that threatened to fell the trees and plants below. Naruto's knee burrowed into his assailant's stomach as the latter's face was frozen in pain. Patronus flipped upside-down and kicked him down to the island.

The assailant stopped just above the tree-line, showing his power of flight as well. "You hit hard."

"And you're stalling."

"Whatever do you mean?"

"I'm guessing your sister has already taken aim at my head or my heart somewhere far away," Naruto stated as matter-of-factly. "Am I right, Artemis?"

The shout of the name surprised the hooded assailant as well as his sister. She appeared before them atop her steed with bow and arrow at the ready. "Your senses are as sharp as ever, Kibō no Kami."

"Seeing that you are attacking me suddenly, you two must be Olympus' representatives in this Gauntlet."

Apollo scoffed upon hearing this, "You just ruined the fun of explaining our actions."

"Because your paranoid father thinks I'm a threat to him when I haven't even done anything or met the guy," Naruto expressed his ire. "Paranoia is anyone's worst enemy, especially that pig-headed father of yours."

"Do not talk about our father like that," Apollo sneered at the Shinto god.

Artemis scoffed in response, but not at Patronus, "Quiet, Apollo. We wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for our father's paranoia."

"Artemis!"

"Remember what he did to Aunt Metis and Athena?"

"I mean, really?" Naruto voiced out his opinion, "Who in their right mind eats his first wife and unborn child to save himself?"

"All because of a prophecy."

"Really."

"The guy never keeps it underneath his toga."

"He makes everyone's lives hell."

"Don't you mean Hades?"

"*Giggle* Good one."

"Thanks."

"So, Goddess of the Hunt?"

"Yes."

"And you're good with the bow?"

"Of course, I am. I have to be!"

"You ever met Hachiman? The God of Archery, nice guy."

"No."

"You should. I think you two might hit it off."

"I vowed to remain a virgin."

"Oh right, I forgot about that. Can I hold your bow?"

"Sure."

"Artemis!"

Hearing her name called out, Artemis saw Patronus had his arms out while she held her bow. Though she could not see it, both Artemis and Naruto blinked owlishly at each other. "Um, this is awkward," Naruto said before vanishing and avoiding Artemis's kick. "Man, I was close."

"You dare to touch my bow?"

"I asked nicely," Naruto retorted almost childlike as if it was obvious. "And I was serious about Hachiman."

Never has anyone tried to take one of the bows of the Twin Hunters. The crazy thing is that neither Artemis nor Apollo sensed any hostility from Patronus. Despite what is happening, he talks to them as if they were long-time friends. Is it his god power or his natural charisma?

"You're dead."

Naruto raised his arm and knocked aside a sun-like arrow casted by Apollo. "And you're hotheaded."

"You dare call me, the God of the Sun and Archery, hot-headed?!"

"You just said it yourself: you're a sun god and that makes you hot-headed."

"Focus, brother."

The three gods readied themselves for the battle, but someone stopped them by a brief yet very powerful burst of divine energy.

"That is enough, you two."

"That was divine energy, but it feels older." Old as Rhea, his Titaness wife. "Who is this?" Naruto wondered to himself.

"But—"

"No buts, young man."

"Mother…"

"You too, Artemis."

"Mother?" Naruto repeated before looking down at the cloaked figure. "Wait a minute…" He flew higher and got a good look of his surroundings. "A massive floating island with very beautiful forests and animals… and two gods accompanied by their mother? This must be Delos Island and—" He appeared in front of the cloaked woman. "—and you're their Titaness mother, Leto."

Bursts of different divine energy blew over the trees as the Twin Archers were livid at the God of Hope standing close to their mother. It was no secret that the two deities loved their mother dearly for risking her life to bring to this world. Their reputation in the Greek culture was notorious with the act of them slaughtering the thirteen children of Queen Niobe for her slandering of Leto.

Raising their bows and aiming arrows of lunar and solar energy at their enemy's head, they were caught off-guard when Patronus bowed respectfully in front of their mother. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady Leto."

"Likewise, young man," Leto greeted him nicely like he was a guest to their home. "Would you like some wine?"

"Thank you, but I must decline. I'm not much of a drinker nowadays," Naruto replied to the Titaness. "This island is beautiful."

"Thank you for your kind words."

"What is happening?" Both Artemis and Apollo asked at the same time while staring at the talkers.

"Would you like a tour of the island?"

"I would like that, yes," Naruto pleasantly agreed as he and Leto walked into the forest.

"Wait, mother!"

Hearing her son call out, Leto shouted back, "Oh and we're forfeiting to the God of Hope."

"Whaaaaaatttttt?!" Both Artemis and Apollo shouted in shock.

A relieved Naruto threw his arms up in the air, "Wahoo! I don't have to fight any gods today!"

"Instead I must talk to you—"

"Oh no."

"—about a great danger that threatens all of us," Leto said gravely.

Naruto stopped his groaning and looked at the Titaness as the twins landed behind her. "All of us?"

"Deities, Kibō no Kami." Leto clarified to Naruto, "You, me, my children, all of Earth's pantheons are in danger."

From what or whom?

"His name has been lost for years and many pantheons from other worlds dread him." Leto informed the Shinto god, her voice quivering by the moment. Both Artemis and Apollo held their mother before guiding her to sit down. "Per course, our world's pantheon refuses to believe that he even exists."

Naruto said nothing as he and the Tailed Beasts listened intently to the Titaness's words.

"And he's coming here. To Earth."

"…" Naruto hesitated but asked the obvious question. "Who is he?"

It was a name that he did not expect to regret knowing for the rest of his life.

"Gorr… Gorr the God Butcher."

END OF CHAPTER

Another chapter is finished. Marvel is starting to ramp up as Naruto's godhood has become public knowledge. There are parties with mixed reactions and Naruto must learn to navigate a world that has seen him perform an act frowned upon by most of the population, especially heroes.

The Amatsu-Kami have their own divine metal like the Olympian Adamantine and the Asgardian Uru ores. It is the Hihi'irokane translated to 'Brilliant Scarlet Metal' in English. There have a few materials regarding the mythical ore and I have learned that the Demon Slayer Corps from Kimetsu no Yaiba use a metal ore based on Hihi'irokane. There will be more clarifications on the metal as the story goes on.

The Infinity Saga begins from here with chapters that would resolve the stones, the other gods and pantheons, and the aforementioned Gorr.

Chapter LVI Q&A's:

Tempestguard (Jan.28): I'm pleased you came back and enjoyed it.

iZuikaku (Jan.28): Yes, yes, it would. And as you can see, Hill realizes that she may have to resort to underhanded tactics to exacerbate the mixed reactions towards Naruto's defeat of Otakemaru.

xXwolfsterXx644 (Jan.28): I'm glad you enjoyed the chapters. How was this latest one?

Demon87 (Jan.29): Thanks.

Jebest4781 (Jan.29): I'm glad you enjoyed your chapter binge and there is more to come. How is everything with your writing?

The Faceless Wordsmith (Jan.29): I originally planned for Kogitsunemaru to remain Naruto's permanent weapon, but I realized that Ame-no-Murakumo is the better choice. In the myths, the Imperial Regalia represents one virtue of the Emperor: valor (Kusanagi), benevolence (Yasakani Magatama) and wisdom (Yata no Kagami). It was not easy finding an accurate depiction of Ame-no-Murakumo, but it paid off.

The unresolved matters you mentioned will be taken care of through the Infinity saga like in this chapter. And thank you for suggesting the dreamwalking-like power affiliated with hope. I have not thought about that.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the story when new chapters arrive.

R-king 93 (Jan.29): Thanks and it is good to be back.

Perseus12 (Jan.29): It is great to be back and I'm happy you enjoyed the binge. How was the latest chapter?

JangCrome (Jan.29): Thanks and I'm pleased you enjoyed the chapters.

Ravage58atlas (Jan.29): I hope the aftermath was accurately realistic as possible. I know, it sucks that it was moved a week later. As long as it is not delayed any further, it'll be fine.

Guest (Jan.29): I know, but life happens and it tends to put everything else on hold. I hope to entertain you more with new chapters.

Anonimo (Jan.31/Feb.1): Hill will look for more information or dirt to bring Patronus in. His reputation is now on the rocks or at least made wary by the differing parties. There will be storm and light-related abilities within Ame-no-Murakumo as there are a few from the Magika series. The comparison is cool as Naruto resembles them in one way or another. I'll look up the Kinesis section from the wiki fandom. I looked up the sword from the wiki and it looks great, but I prefer the one from the Magika series that Hayashizaki Kazuki wields. You can see the sword in the gallery; the last two photos where the character holds the sword in his right hand.

Gwb620 (Feb.2): I recently got into God of High School and watched the anime. Still, I used the Marvelverse's Monkey King as there is one. Neither can I, which is why I'm using her instead of the MCU version. All Might is back on the horse to be better himself.

ShadowBloodedge9396 (Feb.7): Last year has been really rough. Maybe when we get to the Fateverse that might happen (Who knows?), right. I read the God of High School manhwa and watched RWBY and used a combination of both to create the Marvelverse's Sun Wukong. These trials will serve another purpose for Naruto. To be honest, I thought I might've made Naruto OP for the Three Great Yōkai, but it looks like I wrote the fights fine.

All Might will learn from this loss and become stronger. Relations are determined by bonds, not blood. Civil War will soon approach in the story.
