Chapter 61 -
After Ross had left the Avengers headquarters, the Avengers made the mistake of allowing Harry to read the Sokovia accords. The results weren't pretty.
"Motherfucker!" Harry shouted, at this point the other Avengers had wisely chosen to stay back and just let Harry get the anger out of his system. They were all starting at him with wide eyes as he continued cursing. "Cock juggling...jimminy...fuck face! Stupid intellectually malnourished cunt!" Harry said just before he left a fist print in a nearby wall.
"Babe," Natasha calmly spoke several moments later. "feeling better?" She asked.
"Somewhat." Harry said after taking several deep breaths.
"Is it safe to say that you don't really approve of the accords?" Bucky spoke in a quiet voice, he wasn't a full time member of the Avengers but he was part of the team when he wasn't working for Shield.
"What gave me away?" Harry dryly asked. "I need to blow off some steam. I'll be back in a couple of minute." Harry said before he teleported out.
A few minutes later Harry teleported back into the headquarters, he arrived to find Steve reading the accords, Tony sitting on the side and rubbing his face with his hands and the rest of the Avengers being dead quiet with the exception of Sam and Rhodey who were arguing with each other.
"Secretary Ross has a Congressional Medal of Honour, which is one more than you have." Rhodey was saying to Falcon after he made another argument against the accords
"I'm in a relationship with two girls," Harry said, bringing the attention of the room to him. "that's two more than you have." Harry said to Rhodey. "I have more powers than you have as well, and hair, and possibly money. My skin's a different colour than yours, as is my height and weight and life experiences."
"What are you talking about?" Rhodey asked, looking at Harry with confusion.
"Oh I'm sorry, I just thought we were talking about shit that has nothing to do with the accords. It doesn't matter what awards he has, I don't give a shit about how many awards Ross has, this is about the accords."
"He's saying we should agree to it." Sam said as he gestured to Rhodey. "How long is it going to be before they LoJack us like a bunch of common criminals?" He asked Rhodey.
"117 countries want to sign this. 117 Sam! And you're just like 'no, that's cool, we got it'." Rhodey replied.
"How long are you going to play both sides?" Sam asked in an exasperated voice.
"I have an equation." Vision said loudly, calling everyone's attention to himself.
"Fuck your equations and your math." Harry told him.
"No, let him speak." Rhodey said before he gestured Vision to continue, Vision nodded to Rhodey before he began speaking.
"In the eight years since Mr Stark has announced himself as Iron Man the number of known enhanced persons has grown exponentially. During the same period the number of world ending events has risen at commensurate rate."
"Are you saying it's our fault?" Steve asked.
"I'm saying there may be a causality. Our very strength invites challenge, challenge incites conflict. And conflict...conflict breaths catastrophe. Oversight, oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand."
"Boom." Rhodey said, glad to have someone agree with him.
"You use a lot of big words." Pietro said.
"You said there might be a causality, not that there is definitely one." Harry pointed out. "Natasha, Clint and Shield have been around long before Stark joined the game. Cap and Bucky were around since World War Two, Thor is older than all of us combined and Tony announcing himself as Iron Man didn't bring me to this world and it was after I had joined Shield. Besides, without Stark we would still have Hydra, Dark elves and the invasion of New York. We'd still have the Hulk. As for Pietro and Wanda...well they might not have gotten powers but Hydra would've done the experiment on some other people if not them. Also why the fuck are you so quiet today?" Harry asked Tony.
"Yeah Tony," Natasha said. "you are being uncharacteristically non-hyper verbal."
"That's because he already made up his mind." Steve said knowingly as everyone looked at Tony.
"You know me so well," Tony said as he got up and rubbed his forehead. "Actually I'm nursing an electromagnetic headache." Tony said as he walked towards the sink and picked up a cup. "That's what's going on Cap, it's just pain, discomfort. Who's putting coffee grounds in the disposal? Am I running a bed and breakfast for a biker gang?" Tony asked as he walked up to the counter and put his phone on it, he tapped his phone and a holographic image of a smiling black kid appeared in the air above the phone. "Oh that's Charles Spencer by the way," Tony said as he began pouring himself some coffee. "He's a great kid."
"Did you know him?" Bruce asked.
"No, but I know a lot of things about him. Computer engineering degree, 3.6 GPA, had a floor level gig at Intel planned for the fall. But first, he wanted to put a few miles on his soul before he parked it behind a desk. See the world, maybe be of service. Charlie didn't want to go to Vegas or Fort Lauderdale, which is what I would do. He didn't go to Paris or Amsterdam which sounds fun. He decided to spend his summer building sustainable housing for the poor, guess where, Sokovia!" Tony said, slapping his hand on the counter.
Wanda and Pietro looked down at the mention of Sokovia, knowing that they were both responsible or at least partially responsible for that as they were the ones who helped push Stark into making Ultron and helped Ultron get the vibranium.
"He wanted to make a difference, I suppose," Tony continued. "I mean we won't know because we dropped a building on him when we were kicking ass." Tony paused to put some pills in his mouth and take a sip of his coffee. "There is no decision making process here. We need to be put in check! Whatever form that is, I'm game, if we can't accept limitations, if we're boundary-less then we are no better than the bad guys."
"What makes that kid so special?" Harry asked suddenly.
"What?" Tony blinked as he and everyone looked at Harry.
"What makes that kid so special?" Harry repeated. "I mean, it's not like he was the only person who died. If you had just been researching people who have died in Sokoivia then you would have shown more examples than just one kid. Why is this one kid so special?"
"Harry, his mother came up to me." Tony sighed. "She met me backstage after I gave a speech at MIT."
"You're a bloody idiot, Tony." Harry sighed as he rubbed his eyes.
"What?"
"Where's Pepper?" Harry asked suddenly.
"Pepper and I...are taking a small break." Tony admitted.
"That explains why she's not here to talk some sense into you." Harry said, usually he'd be at least a little bit nicer but right now he was a bit too angry for that. "For Merlin's sake, Tony, you are a famous celebrity and a member of the Avengers, you had security there to stop the crowds from bothering you or attacking you. You didn't wonder how a random woman somehow managed to get backstage and talk to you?"
"You...you're trying to say it was a set up?" Tony realised. "But...I checked, she was definitely his mother."
"Maybe she was, but that still leaves the question of how she got backstage." Natasha replied.
"Exactly." Harry nodded. "And let me tell you something that you apparently have forgotten, we did not go to Sokovia to play and have fun. We all walked away from the fight with aching bones, bruised skin and memories that we will never be able to escape. Some of us nearly died there, we weren't busy trying to 'kick ass', we were trying to save people. That's what the Avengers were created for, that's we do and that's what we will keep doing. These accords are not designed to save or protect people, they're designed to control us."
"Don't you think you're being a little dramatic?" Rhodey asked.
"No." Harry said in a short voice. "Am I the only one who listened to the news reports after the battle of New York?" Harry asked.
"I did as well." Steve said as several other Avengers nodded.
"Great, well in that case, am I the only one who remembered a New York senator saying that we should be held responsible for it?" Harry asked. "These accords, they aren't new things that were decided right after Sokovia, they were planning this for ages. I've seen this before guys, this was just like in my last world. The world can burn and go to shit but as long as those in charge feel safe and in power, they'll let it. This is a power grab, they want control of us. And if we sign this then I promise you guys that you can all fuck off because there is no way in hell that I am going to stay an Avenger." Harry said, causing nearly everyone to look at him with shock, the main exceptions being Natasha, Sif and Gwen. The three knew Harry well enough at this point, plus Natasha and Gwen remembered him saying that he wouldn't be on the team if there was government interference.
"I agree with Harry," Sif said. "they have no right to control us. I may follow Midgard's rules when I am here but I am a warrior of Asgard, I will not be controlled by anyone, and should Thor return then they can't honestly expect to enforce these rules against the crowned prince of Asgard."
"Harry," Tony spoke in a quiet voice. "I know you're not a big fan of the accords but are you sure about this? I mean...are you sure you're not...you know...exaggerating a little." He said, he sounded almost hopeful.
"Tony," Harry sighed as he summoned the accords book to him and began reading through the pages. "let's see what's written in here, shall we? Ah, 'Those with secret identities must reveal their legal names and true identities to the United Nations', by the way, Tony, do you remember that poor Peter Parker kid who is going to end up getting his identity shown to the whole world? And at the ripe old age of fifteen, hmm, I hope he can easily handle that without dying or without his loved ones dying or without losing the chance to live his life because a lot of people will be interested in talking to him." Harry said in a dry voice before he continued. "Ah, and here's another interesting one. It says here that 'Those with innate powers must also wear tracking bracelets at all times.', that makes sense, I suppose. Don't want your weapons to get loose."
"Harry, I...I get it." Tony sighed.
"Do you? Because I'm not sure you do, perhaps this will help, it says here that enhanced individuals won't be able to take action without the consent of the United Nations, that means I could walk right next to another alien invasion and would get locked up if I tried to help, and if that's not enough then it says here that the Avengers will be under the control of the United Nations. Oh and here are two of my favourites: 'Any enhanced individuals who use their powers to break the law (including those who take part in extra-legal vigilante activities), or are otherwise deemed to be a threat to the safety of the general public, may be detained indefinitely without trial' and then we also have 'if an enhanced individual violates the Accords, or obstructs the actions of those enforcing the Accords, they may likewise be arrested and detained indefinitely without trial.'. Without a fucking trial!"
"Okay, I get it!" Tony snapped.
"No, you fucking don't!" Harry snapped as he tossed the book away. "If we sign this then not only are we screwing ourselves, we're screwing everyone we swore to protect because we can't protect them without the United Nations consent, if Pepper or Happy or any of us were dying then screw you if you want to help us without their position. And here's a fact that you might not know, magic can be inherited!" Harry yelled in Tony's face. Tony blinked as he stepped back, his eyes were wide as he looked at Natasha. "Yeah, you get it now, don't you? There's no guarantee but what if my future child ends up being magical, like me? Huh? You want me to just stand by and watch as my future son or daughter ends up having to wear a tracker twenty-four/seven? You want me to stand by and be scared all the time because I know that if a single law is broken, even accidently, my child would be 'detained indefinitely without a trail'. I lost my last world, I lost it while fighting for freedom and fighting against a man who wanted to control everyone and rule the world. I roared with my head held high even during its destruction, I will not calmly bow and stay quiet now. I am not going to lose my family, and if it comes down to choosing between my family or a bunch of greedy, little power hungry shits, then I'm going to choose my family."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Tony asked in a wary voice.
"If I have to do something I don't want to do in order to save my family then I will." Harry said, his voice having gone noticeably colder. "You regret your actions? Stop being a pussy and own up to it, don't push your responsibilities on to the UN. I'm not going to stand here and let everything be ruined because you're too blinded by your emotions." Harry said before he turned to Natasha and Sif. "I'm more than ready to go now, what about you two?" He asked in a calm voice.
"Yeah." Natasha spoke in a quiet voice as Sif nodded. The two looked around and both could not help but agree that it would be much better if they had left, the atmosphere wasn't exactly the best right now.
"Good," Harry said before he turned to Wanda and Pietro. "if Stark and Rhodes insist on being idiots then you two can feel free to come to me." Harry said before turning to Bruce. "Same for you, it's better if Ross is kept away from you." He added before he walked out with Sif following behind him. Natasha had followed but had stopped in front of Tony.
"Harry doesn't hate you," She said in an apologetic voice. "he's just not happy with you right now."
"I don't know about the first part." Tony frowned.
"Tony, Harry has lost his world, all of the people he knew were wiped out. Partly because of an evil monster who wanted destruction, but also because of a failing government that was more interested in personal gain than doing what is right. He is seeing the same mistakes of his world happening again, right when he has a child on the way. And I can't honestly blame him for being angry, you're smarter than this Tony, why don't you take some time to try and think this through." She suggested before she walked off.
A.N: Hi guys, hope you liked the chapter.
Now, yes Harry was very, very angry but it's understandable, he never trusted the government in his last world and they're at least partially to blame for the destruction of his world. And now a new government is trying to control him and now he has to worry about what would happen if the accords were legalised and how it would affect his child.
If anyone is interested in my opinions on the accords then I'm going to say that I sort of agree with the accords. At least I agree with the idea of it, but I don't agree with the execution of it, nor the way that the Avengers would have to ask permission before taking action, if they did that everytime then the chitauri would have won and sokovia would have dropped. Rules for superpowered people are fine but the accords were less about saftey and more about control (I blame Ross). Overall I don't really like the accords, because it doesn't take a genius to realise that this was just a plan for Ross to control the Avengers (if you need proof of the fact that it doesn't take a genius to realise this fact then how about the fact that I realised it?).
Also if anybody is interested then I have a pat-reon account under the name JB21Q, all the chapters for my latest story Widow's Vengeance - a crossover story where Clint and Natasha are reborn in the HP world where they dedicate themselves to helping Harry Potter who had come to their world and married Natasha before was reborn - will first be released on there before being uploaded on here. What this basically means is that if you become a patron then you get early viewings of chapters, and if you don't become a patron then you can still read but you just have to wait longer.
Also any new stories I may do in the future will be voted on in pat-reon, and any future stories will also first be uploaded on Pat-reon, then on here.
Also of course I have to say I don't own HP or Marvel or anything else, because if I don't say that then one of them will sniper me, I suspect Marvel will get to me first.
Thanks for reading, feel free to leave a review and enjoy the omakes.
Omake 1 (idea from Barbaric Bob) :
Ross: accountability!
Harry: then y u no in jail?
Ross: ... LOOK A DISTRACTION!
Harry: WHERE!?
Omake 2 (Idea from thunderofdeath97) :
"I'm pregnant, and your the father." Freya says as she walked into the room where Harry, Odin, Thor and Loki were gathered.
"We're having another child?" Odin asked.
"No, we're having a child." She said as she gestured between herself and Harry. At this point Hela walked in.
"Dammit Harry, you got me pregnant." She said.
"How the hell did you escape hell? Wait...what the hell?" Odin said as he looked between Harry and Sif.
"Harry i am pregnant." Sif said as she walked in.
"Is there any woman left?!" Odin demanded as he looked at Harry.
"I..." Harry was cut off as several Asgardian women walk in.
"We already know, Harry got you pregnant." Everyone said before the women could speak.
"Hey, I'm not pregnant." One man said, having not been visible before due to being small and standing behind the women.
"Well, what are you doing here then?" Thor asked.
"I'm here because he..." The man gestured at Harry. "got not only my wife, sister, and seven daughters pregnant, but also my mother and aunt."
"Wow." Loki whistled, looking quite impressed.
"Let's not forget your grandmother and her book club." Harry helpfully added.
"Are there any woman left?" Odin asked Harry, this time completely serious.
Omake 3:
"I..." Harry pauses as he looks at Red Skull's nose. "...do...do you like snakes?" Harry asked.
"Well, I don't dislike them."
"Fuck it, I found Voldemort's red headed muggle twin!"
Omake 4:
"Daddy!" A voice called midway through the battle.
"Everybody stop!" Harry yelled, causing everyone on the battlefield to stop. Harry looked around until he spotted his daughter, Rose, standing next to Thanos, he teleported next to her. "What's wrong, peanut?" Harry asked.
"That's mine, Daddy!" She said in a sad voice as she gestured to the infinty gauntlet. "But he won't give it back to me!"
"Thanos, give it back." Harry told him.
"What? No." Thanos replied.
"Thanos, I said give it back." Harry said.
"I don't want to!"
"Thanos, give it back right now." Harry said in a firm voice as his eyes narrowed.
"Fine," Thanos huffed and dropped the gauntlet at her feet. "that's not even fair." He complained as he walked away, pouting as he did so.
"Thank you, Daddy." Rose beamed.
