Anyone that has read my "What Happened" series, will notice that Luz can use glyphs in the Human Realm. I originally wrote that before we found out that glyphs don't work in the Human Realm. The more I thought about it the more I found that it makes sense in my story and it will be explained in this chapter.
Today was the day, the day they finally fixed the portal. Three long weeks of waiting and it was finally going to happen. Lilith and Eda were currently getting ready to pour the potion on the portal. He felt someone grab his hand and he looked over to see who, even though he had a good idea.
"Are you ready, Alex?" Camila asked.
"I've been waiting for months." He said, "She's going to be fine."
"And... what about Nathaniel? He's still out there."
"I... I'll figure something out. I just want Luz back first."
He walked to the portal room and saw the Clawthorne sisters, the Triplet sisters, Willow, Amelia, and Amity. This is it. In the Human World; Emily, Heather, and Luz were in Emily's game room. Luz had several glyphs on the table.
"So, why am I here again?" Heather asked.
"We tried this when your powers were blocked and it didn't work. Now we're going to see if your vampire powers can let you use magic." Luz said.
"Okay." Heather said, looking at the glyphs, "What is this one?"
"Oh, that's one that I found about a week before I came to the Human Realm. It's a fire glyph... you know maybe we shouldn't have you do that one." Luz said taking the glyph away.
"Yeah, maybe not. My parents said that vampire weaknesses have smaller effects on me, but fire and sunlight are still very dangerous for me."
She looked over the glyphs before tapping on one. Instead of the paper disintegrating like it did before, a small ball of light rose up. She held it in her hands and stared at it.
"It's... wow." Heather said, "I just did mag- is something burning?"
Heather looked and saw smoke coming from her hands. She quickly destroyed the spell and shook her hands.
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Damn!" Heather said.
Heather looked at her hands and saw small first degree burns. Luz looked at Heather's hands and her inner Healer came out.
"Okay, well, with your vampire healing, your hands should heal relatively quickly. Probably only will take about fifteen minutes. On the bright side, my theory-"
"And mine." Emily said.
"Our theory is correct. In order for someone to use glyphs, they need to have some form of magic in their veins in order for them to work." Luz said.
"So, my vampire powers qualify as magic? Maybe I should look through that book my mom gave me."
"Well, we can do more of this later." Emily said, "We have to get to school."
Heather reached into her pocket and pulled out her ring. She put it on and then looked at another light glyph. She tapped it and held it in her hand. Nothing.
"So, this ring also prevents me from burning from light magic. Interesting."
The three of them start walking to school and talked about Luz's latest game.
"So, you did pretty good at the game two weeks ago." Heather said.
"Heather, you've been saying that for two weeks. I wasn't that good, I only scored 11 points." Luz said.
"You got the final basket. It was tied before you made the shot." Emily said.
"It wasn't that good." Luz insisted.
"It was a full court shot." Heather said, "That's like me managing to pin someone four seconds into a match."
"Are you even going to be able to wrestle now? Wouldn't being an incredibly strong undead creature qualify as cheating?" Emily asked.
"I'll cross that bridge when I get to it." Heather said.
They walked up to their lockers and Luz opened hers, which had her jersey in it. She put it on over her normal shirt, she wasn't going to wear it outside. Even if they were in Northern California it was November, it was a pretty cold day. She felt a tap on her shoulder. She figured it was one of her teammates, it's not like she would be hard to find, her last name is pretty unique and on her back in black letters. Luz turned around and saw some bright brown hair that she hasn't seen in years.
"Amity?"
