Even as she's wracked with guilt and sobs in the lobby with her classmates, Uraraka remembers something important. She has to call Rose. She's not sure if Rose can do anything. She's not sure of anything anymore. But still, maybe out of desperation or even a sense of duty, she calls Rose and tells her what happened.

And as soon as Rose hears it, she immediately bolts out the door of her dorm. Suddenly she can't run fast enough. Suddenly she regrets not doing hero training sooner. Only recently has she been going on jogs more often, both to train and to relieve stress. But it's not enough. She just can't get to Midoriya fast enough. She's nearly about to pass out by the time she gets to the nurse's office, but when she does, she bursts in, practically slamming the door open. It startles Recovery Girl a bit, not just because it was so sudden, but because it's Rose of all people. The first thing her golden eyes spot is All Might next to the bed. Even as she runs out of breath, wheezing, she trudges closer until she can look behind the curtain and lay eyes on that familiar green mop of hair.

She finally sees the love of her life staring listlessly out the window. "Midoriya-kun!"

Slowly, he turns to her, as if he didn't notice her until now. "…Senpai…"

At that moment, she can't tell what's worse, the time she saw his body broken and losing consciousness after Taka attacked him or seeing him like this, with his spirit broken. And just like that time, her face scrunches painfully as her eyes fill with tears. And as they fall from her eyes, so does she fall to her knees next to his pillow. "Mi… Midoriya-kun…" she whimpers as she nervously touches his shoulder, shaking, tears falling in earnest. "…No…" She wheezes and sobs, and she can't tell if the pain in her chest is from the running or the heartbreak.

"I'm sorry, young miss," she hears All Might say. "We did what we could, but…"

She looks shocked and despaired at him. Of all people, All Might, Midoriya-kun's hero, one of the people he could never stop talking about when they ate lunch together… Even he was powerless now.

What could've happened? In the short time between lunch and now, all she knows is that Katsuki Bakugo succeeded in bringing Midoriya-kun to therapy. Although she did also hear through the grapevine about Bakugo's outburst in the middle of the hall. But from the story, it sounded like he was defending Midoriya-kun. What could've possibly happened? That's when she gets an idea. She turns to All Might and asks, "Dr. Shinbyou! Did she say anything?"

"No. She can't… Especially since it could jeopardize the kid's health even further."

Rose should've known that, but she couldn't help asking. And then out of the blue, she gets an amazing, horrible idea. She stands up. "Then I'll find out the truth for myself."

"…Senpai…" Almost as if he's trying to stop her, he calls out. "…Please… don't… It's over. It's okay now." He turns and looks out the window again. "I don't need anyone to save me anymore." As he says those words, he looks truly satisfied with the thought of disappearing, of never being a burden to anyone ever again.

And she can see it. The peace and satisfaction. She can see it. He's not sad, or lonely, or bitter. She can see it. He's simply free. Free of the worry and the constant pressure to be a hero and the fear that he may never be one. He's free of it now… and free of the will to live too.

"…No," she says, "Midoriya-kun… whether you believe me or not, I'm alive now because of you… That's why… if you die, then so will I."

All Might's eyes widen, and Recovery Girl listens intently with concern. But Rose doesn't notice. Instead she sees Midoriya flinch. Then slowly, he turns his head back to her with an unmistakable look of fear. And she understands why. He thought that with his death, even if a few people mourned, they would keep going, keep living without him, and they'd be better off. But if… if even one person dies because he did, then it'll all be in vain.

"Don't…" he pleads, "…No… Senpai…"

Rose understands now what else she can do to help him. She hesitantly reaches out her hand, gently caresses his cheek, and looks deep into his eyes. Then she smiles sweetly with just a hint of sadness. "I mean it. I'll definitely do it… So don't die, Midoriya-kun."

"N… No…"

She slowly removes her hand. "Just wait a little longer." Her smile fades, replaced by a look of calm determination. "I'll definitely save you." And with that, she turns and leaves. Taking a deep breath, she starts running once again. When she gets to the doctor's door, she knocks only as a courtesy and almost barges in before the doctor can answer.

Her sightless eyes narrow at the girl. "…You arrived even sooner than I thought… Does he really mean that much to you?"

Rose's eyes narrow back at her. "You already know that, don't you?"

"…Sorry, but I can't tell you what happened either. It's nothing against you or any of the teachers, but I must be selective about who I share such sensitive information with. At most, I might be able to tell their parents after a quick assessment, but I'll advise them not to tell anyone either." She's already called the parents of both children and invited them to come as soon as possible.

"You know I've already figured out all of that, so what are you trying to say?" Her tone grows stern, impatient. Normally, she doesn't mind the doctor's roundabout questioning because it's been helping Rose through her own issues. But she can't deal with it today, not right now.

She smirks and chuckles a bit. "…I'm saying that I know why you're here too… Here to rob a defenseless old woman of her memories."

That's right. That's what she's here for. For the doctor's memories of her session with Midoriya-kun and Katsuki Bakugo. "…You know that… but you're not afraid?"

"Not really. After all, you won't do it."

Rose blinks, and immediately the doctor can sense her heart fill with apprehension. The child even starts to shake. "You… think I won't?"

Dr. Shinbyou reaches to her face for her glasses, and Rose's eyes widen. "I know you won't." Rose knows what's coming, that stifling, immobilizing aura that only the doctor is capable of. She's felt it once, and she never wants to feel it again. The pressure that seems to seep into her very soul, to a place where even Taka's abuse could never reach. And even though she's not supposed to be afraid of any outside attacks anymore, she can't help but shiver. And freeze. She doesn't really brace herself or try to run. She just freezes in place. "After all, using your quirk on a defenseless old woman wouldn't be very heroic, now would it?"

She shivers but still maintains her composure enough to answer, "I… I'm going to save him… And… if you're going to get in my way… then to me you're a villain."

The doctor takes her glasses off. Rose wants to step back, but she's too afraid to even do that much. "Interesting. But even so, you won't do it." And as they touch the table, Rose's shivering reaches a peak…

But nothing happens.

"See? …I haven't even done anything. And you've already given up."

Nothing. Indeed, nothing happened. But that's all it took to break her.

As something in her shatters, she falls to her knees again. She tries to catch her breath, hyperventilating, clutching the carpet, her tears overflowing anew. She failed. It was a test, and she failed. She should've known this would happen. That if she was serious, the doctor would test her. That she would fail that test. That simply wanting to save someone, even the most important person in her life, wouldn't be enough. She'd never be the hero he was. She would never have the courage he did. She couldn't even stand up to a quirkless old woman. She'll never be a hero at this rate. She should've known. It's impossi—

You can do it.

She stops. And for a moment, she takes a mental step back and sees herself. She remembers this feeling, the feeling of overwhelming hopelessness and despair when facing an obstacle so terrifying that she loses herself. She knows what to do. She closes her eyes and lets it all come back to her again. Midoriya-kun. Uraraka-san. Katsuki Bakugo. All Might. Even Eijiro Kirishima. She lets their words come back to her once more as she takes a deep breath. And she remembers the sports' festival. She remembers how she felt that day, watching Izuku Midoriya speak out against everything she believed, everything she'd lived her whole life believing. Fighting an opponent he barely had a chance of defeating. She remembers how, even so, he stood against him to the very end. Because unlike his opponent, Izuku Midoriya was going to give his all, win or lose. Because that's what a hero does.

Give it your all! Come at me with everything you've got!

She stands.

Dr. Shinbyou's eyebrows twitch. A new aura surrounds the child. The fear is still there, but it's precisely because Rose is afraid that the doctor knows she's…

Rose slowly lifts her head, until the doctor can see her courageous glare. That's right. It's courage!

"I… am going to save Midoriya-kun!" She lunges forward. With that desperate, brave aura, she starts to close the gap between them. "I'm not gonna give up!" She holds Midoriya's visage in her mind, in her heart. "No matter what!" Almost there. "Because I'm…!" She reaches the desk. "I'm gonna be…!" And reaches out her hand. "A hero!"

Even in her frenzy, Rose spots it for just a second… the moment Dr. Shinbyou calmly closes her eyes, accepting defeat.

But as Rose's fingertips lightly touch her wrinkled forehead, she doesn't spare a second. As her fingertips glow, the memories come flowing into her. And when she's taken as much as she needs to, she stops and pulls her hand away, jumping back, still panting a bit.

Dr. Shinbyou slowly opens her eyes. She sighs as she puts her glasses back on. "How bothersome. Since I can't remember what you took from me, I can't really judge it's importance." She pauses to think a little. "It obviously had something to do with Izuku Midoriya's current condition. Otherwise you wouldn't have been so determined… But now I sincerely can't remember if a session even occurred here."

Rose remembers. She remembers it all now. And she considers herself lucky to have taken memories from Dr. Shinbyou of all people, because now Rose can even feel the auras of the two as their exchange happened in front of her. She knows exactly what they said, how they feel about each other, how closely intertwined their souls are, and even Midoriya-kun's mysterious comment about being "born with a quirk in his next life".

The doctor interrupts her thoughts. "Now that you've gone and crossed the line, I'll have to report you to the teachers and have you apprehended."

Rose blinks again, realizing that she doesn't have time to think deeply about this. "I understand. I'm sorry it had to come to this." She quickly turns to leave.

"And now that you have what you need," the doctor continues, "I expect you to do what you said you would." She stops at the door and turns a little to the doctor.

The doctor smiles fondly at her. As if… As if this was her plan all along…

"You will save him, won't you?"

Realizing the truth, Rose's eyes shine. With joy, with hope, with courage. She smiles. "Yes!"
