Promises for a Lifetime

Part 1/2

Amari: Age 21

To say the news tabloids were excited for the upcoming wedding of pro heroes Ember and Shoto was clearly and understatement. In fact, you'd think they were royalty from another country with the amount of coverage and gossip going on about the topic.

And they kind of were in a way. To Japan, the Todoroki's were one of the most influential and powerful families with their father Endeavor being the number one hero and just the idea of one of his sons marrying was something that made thousands of hopeful onlookers both swoon and become jealous over.

It also didn't help that both parties were heroes which meant their popularity had grown over the years into that hottest "It couple" there ever was. The truth was, whether you liked it or not, if you lived in Japan chances are you knew about the wedding.

But for Amari and Todoroki, they never look at it that way. It wasn't about the fame or the press or the power that they held. No, they were just excited to finally be able to live with each other fully for the rest of their lives. It was as simple as that.

So much so that the girl found herself running a nervous hand through her hair, picking up a swatch of fabric before examining the color for a maid. "Ahh I don't know! They all look the same to me."

Although a small laugh from Fuyumi next to her caused the woman to pick up the fabric lightly. "Not at all Amari. This one is Pale Marigold and the last one you looked at was Old Gold. See?"

Picking up the other color, the blonde haired girl narrowed her eyes at the two exact same colors before groaning. "No, I don't. Is this really necessary? I mean, are people really going to notice the color of the drapes for the entryway? You should just pick, I'm sure it will be great either way.."

Yet the minute she said that, the maid gasped in utter horror before shaking her head roughly. "That won't do Miss Bakugo. Every detail is of the utmost important to this event! Hundreds of people will be at your engagement party and they will only accept the best…"

At the heavy amount of pressure, Amari threw another hand into her hair before giving a frustration sigh. "I know, don't remind me.."

And Bakugo really meant that because this engagement party for the public was really starting to make her go insane. Every single detail, everything was so particular and Amari had no idea where to even start with this.

The sad fact was, Todoroki and her lifestyles were not the same in the slightest so all these little things that the maids wanted her to pick, she had no clue on. Amari wasn't fancy by any means and that really showed here.

But then again she supposed this was the world she was marrying into, the one that she would have to figure out sooner rather than later if she wanted to stay with the love of her life. "Fine fine. Uhhh go with the Pale Marigold one then."

She seemed happy with that, bowing in response a moment later. "As you wish Miss."

Watching her leave was the best feeling she had all day, the girl immediately dropping her shoulders as Fuyumi put a supportive hand to her back. "I know it's a lot, but if it means anything I think you're doing great Amari."

Bakugo then turned to her soon to be sister in law before smiling weakly. "Thanks but all of this is still so new to me. Do we really have to have this big event? I wouldn't mind if it was just a small gathering. I don't need any of this."

The humbleness in her eyes caused Fuyumi to squeeze her shoulder once. "I know, but I don't really think that's possible with our family. I'm sorry."

At her apology, Amari immediately backtracked, turning to look at the woman before shaking her head. "No no, it's okay you don't have to apologize. I'm thankful for all this, I really am. It's just not what I really am looking forward to that's all.."

Pushing a piece of hair behind her ear, the blonde haired girl couldn't help but think the moment the two of them say their vows and kiss for the first time as husband and wife.

The girl then snapped out of her own dreams before turning away in order to hide the small blush that was starting to creep into her cheeks. "R-Right, so it's not like I dislike these things and I know you all mean well and everything, it's just I'm not used to it and uhhh yeah..."

Fuyumi couldn't help but watch the girl in amusement, seeing Amari so clearly trying to hide the embarrassment she felt from her last comment.

Although lucky for her, Endeavor's loud booming voice soon filled the space as she turned and found Todoroki standing beside him. "Bakugo what are you doing just standing around? There is too much to be done for you to day dream like an idiot."

Shutting her mouth just as quickly, the girl then chose to ignore his demands before moving up to her love in order to give him a small smile. "Oh, hey Shoto. How's everything going with you?"

Endeavor noticed the disrespect though, a slight scoff in his voice. "I asked you a question. Don't just ignore me.."

Yet it seemed Todoroki wanted to share in the shade, his hands reaching up to touch hers as he ignored the man right next to her. "I'm alright. What about you? I hope these preparations aren't stressing you out too much. If you'd like I can.."

Balling his hands into fists, the man only huffed before speaking slightly louder, knowing that their game was getting under their skin. "Bakugo.."

Amari then blinked in surprise before turning back to Endeavor with a slight smirk. "Oh hey Endeavor great to see you too. Didn't even notice you there."

Ticking his brow in annoyance, the man grumbled back. "You two are still such children."

The blonde haired woman then fake gasped to herself before sputtered back. "Aw come on Endeavor, is that anyway to speak to your soon to be daughter in law?"

At the title, the father physically cringed as Bakugo came up with another idea, happily skipping up to the man before speaking. "Wait! Does this mean I can call you Enji now?"

Staring blankly at the woman in question, Endeavor soon realized that this woman would be part of their family soon, that he'd have to hear her childlike jokes and harassment for years to come...

He then turned to his son before speaking plainly. "Are you sure you don't want to reconsider your choice?"

Gasping in fake hurt, Amari pushed her hand into Todoroki's fathers chest before scoffing. "Rude. Come one Endeavor, you know you love me."

She wiggled her eyebrows in order to prove her point as Endeavor pushed a hand to his face before sighing defeatedly at the idiotic woman that would soon hold his family name. "That's not the word I would use.."

Although it seemed Todoroki didn't understand the joke, his arm reaching to squeeze hers protective as he frowned towards his father. "There is nothing to reconsider, there is no other choice but Amari."

And even his father couldn't disagree to that, the man shaking his head, before glancing at the two kids with a newfound softness. "I already know that son."

Seeing the change in tone made Amari smile to herself before clapping her hands together in order to bring up the mood some more. "That right Enji, whether you like it or not you are stuck with me forever!"

At the sound of his name, Endeavor immediately dropped his softness before grumbling back with an annoyance that pleased the girl. "Don't remind me.."

The group began to laugh in response before there was a small knock on the door, the object opening before Amari's face fell as a maid entered the space. Oh no, is she going to ask me another question I have no idea how to answer? Please no..

Although after she bowed, the woman pointed towards the phone on their left as she spoke. "Sir, you have a call on line one. They say it's imperative that you answer."

Twisting their heads in confusion, Endeavor began to walk up to the phone before replying. "Who is it?"

The maid couldn't help but gulp at that, causing Todoroki's father to lose his patience, staring at the small woman with a glare. Whatever this mood was, he didn't like it. "I said, who is it?"

Slightly jumping in surprise, the women bowed once before replying shakily. "I-It's Mater Todoroki sir.."

And all at once, the entire room dropped in temperature before all of the Todoroki kids looked between each other, a thousand words passing between each other as Endeavor's hands balled into a fist.

Then he turned towards the door before huffing. "I'll be back."

Leaving the group alone, Natsuo was the first to speak, his voice mixed with malice and hate. "I wonder what that old man wants now? It can't be anything good.."

Fuyumi seemed to share in the unease, muttering back. "I haven't heard from him in years…"

Turning her head to the group, Amari twisted her brow in confusion. "Is everything okay? Who was that on the phone? You all seem uncomfortable all of a sudden.."

The girl then watched as Fuyumi looked towards the floor as Natsuo gritted his teeth together in unpleasant memory. "Our grandfather. Although I don't understand why he would be contacting us now. The man hasn't cared about us for years.."

At the sound of grandfather, Amari's eyes widened as she felt Todoroki's hand squeeze hers even tighter, his expression dark. "I don't know much about him as well. I only met him once as a child and.."

He trailed off at that, causing the girl to lightly trail a couple fingers over his face in concern. Whoever this guy was, it seemed his reputation wasn't great. "Shoto?"

Closing his eyes for a moment, the boy forced out his reply, causing another squeeze to her hand in the process as he remembered the words his grandfather had spoken to him. "I only remember him calling me a masterpiece, not a failure like my other siblings. He was cold, just like father was.."

A slight shiver appeared up his spine at the memory before Amari's brow twisted into a glare at the treatment this man showed her love. It was like he only looked at him like a game piece, like a stepping stone as his father once did.

Although the words didn't seem to hurt the other Todoroki's as much, Natsuo's face twisting in disgust. "Yeah that sounds about right…"

Just then, Endeavor re-entered the room as his kids practically ran up to their father in question, taking in his sullen stance before Fuyumi spoke first. "Dad, is everything okay? What did he want?"

The man was silent for a moment, his shoulders slumping over themselves before turning to Shoto and Amari with a sigh. "He heard about the wedding and wants to meet you Bakugo."

Widening her eyes, Amari didn't have to answer before the entire room filled with chaos, all of the kids quickly shouting back at once with different words of rejection, Todoroki being first. "Absolutely not."

Although Natsuo wasn't that far behind. "Like hell! There's no way we'd let that happen."

And Fuyumi as well. "Natsu and Sho are right. Why would he want to see her in the first place?"

Yet Endeavor knew that answer perfectly well, although chose to keep it hidden for fear of the blonde haired girl blowing up. "I don't know but he is coming to the estate tomorrow in order to introduce himself to you Bakugo."

Removing his hand from hers, Todoroki immediately shook his head before standing in front of Amari roughly in order to invisibly protect her. He didn't know what his grandfather's intentions were but he wouldn't stand for any one disrespecting the love of his life. She had already had enough of that to last a lifetime.

"No, that won't be necessary. Amari doesn't need to meet him."

Yet Endeavor only took in their words before stepping closer to his kids, a sad look on his face. "It's customary for Bakugo to meet them at least once. She is joining our family after all so she is expected to introduce herself to the entire Todoroki family. Doing something other than that would just be seen as disrespectful."

This caused his kids to immediately scoff, Natsu throwing his arms out at his words. "Family? That's the biggest joke I've heard. Grandfather hasn't even made the effort to speak with us for years. He has no say in this family. The only ones that matter are us and Amari.."

And even though Endeavor may have shared in his opinions, his hands were tied. "I understand your feelings Natsuo but this is far bigger than just us. If he wants to meet with Bakugo, we have to respect that."

His words caused his kids to immediately speak back, Amari taking in his sullen stance before twisting her eyes in concern. Endeavor was never one to conform to anyone or back down from his wishes so why was he acting this way now?

It kind of looked like he was defeated by the conversation with his father.

Just then, Todoroki turned to her before speaking. "Amari, don't listen to him. You don't have to do this for you don't want to. Just say the word and we will protect you."

Reaching forward, Natsuo added. "Yeah, to us you are already a part of this family. You have no obligation to meet him."

Nodding her head, Fuyumi finished lightly. "Exactly. We love you Amari. That's all that matters."

And though their words were sweet, protecting the girl from this unsaid force, she still felt a bitter taste in her throat at the situation. Bakugo's were not one to run away from these kinds of things and Amari couldn't help but feel the same here.

So much so that she only turned her head before replying plainly. "No, I'll meet him."

Almost immediately, everyone widened their eyes before the Todoroki kids immediately began to reject her words, Shoto turning her around to look at him. "Amari, no you can't. I understand you're curious but my grandfather will not take you lightly. He will probably reject you from this family.."

Yet his words only seemed to make the girl laugh. "Yeah, that's what I'm expecting. Besides, I don't want to be rude or seem like a coward to your family. Seems there's only one option to pick."

Natsuo and Fuyumi couldn't believe their ears either though, the white haired girl shaking her head in exasperation. "That's not true. You don't have to do this. Forget what dad said, nothing is expected from you Amari."

Yet that only caused Bakugo to grow even more determined, the girl shaking her head once. "Even so, he's asking for me, and you know I'm not one to turn down a challenge, right Endeavor?"

Turning to her mentor, the two locked eyes before Endeavor recalled the conversation they shared after she accepted his proposal to complete her internship with him clearly out of spite.

Because of that, somehow, he already knew what her answer was going to be.

He then let out a heavy sigh before responding. "I was afraid you'd say that."

Smirking in response, Amari then crossed her arms over her chest before speaking proudly, as if she dared this mysterious man to do his worst. "That settles it then. Tell him I'll be ready.."

And as much as everyone hated it, the next day came quickly and they all found themselves sitting at the table waiting for Todoroki's grandfather in silence.

It was obvious to tell the air around the room was less than pleasant as Amari felt Todoroki's hand on top of hers a moment later. "You look beautiful."

As a light blush appeared on her cheek, Amari nodded before looking down at the pink and purple traditional kimono that Fuyumi had kindly let her borrow for the occasion. Her hair as well was put up in a high bun with a pink butterfly hair stick poking out the side as well.

It was far more formal than the girl had even worn before but the Todoroki's assured her that this kind of attire was standard for these kinds of important meetings and Amari didn't want to seem disrespectful.

Even Shoto himself was wearing a simple black suit jacket and tie, the girl glancing at the handsome man before muttering her response. "Thanks. Are you going to be okay?"

It was obvious to her that he was clearly nervous, the boy turning his head before sighing. "I don't know. It's been so long since I've last seen him and I worry what he will say to you."

And as sweet as it was, Amari couldn't but smirk at that. "Shoto, I think you forget I'm not that fragile. I'm sure whatever he will say isn't any worse then what I've heard before. I can handle it."

Although that didn't make the boy happy in the slightest, frowning back. "That's just it. You shouldn't have to handle it, you shouldn't be used to these kinds of things. The world has already pushed you down enough, I don't want you to experience any more of that."

That wasn't the type of response she had expected in the slightest, Amari shutting her lips before smiling to herself, feeling the love in his response.

Yeah she didn't really enjoy having to fight the entire world for everything but that's just how things were for her so she was used to it by now.

They were interpreted when a loud knock was overheard from the fourier, the group standing as an older gentleman turned around the corner, his red hair with heavy grey steaks peaking back covering their entire vision.

He walked with a cane, the man using it heavily as Amari was the first to bow, not knowing what kind of responses she was going to get. "Hello, it's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Todoroki. I'm happy you wished to meet with me."

The man stared at the woman for a couple seconds, taking in everything about her as she immediately felt uncomfortable with the lack of speech. Was he just staring at her like that? She didn't like it.

But luckily that didn't last long as the old man's lips curved up into a small smile a moment later. "Ah, so you're the one that marrying my grandson, is that it?"

It was much warmer than she thought it would be, the girl quickly trying to pull herself together before lifting her head up in response. "Ah, yes that's me. Bakugo Amari sir. It's nice to meet you.."

Nodding back, the man then turned his eyes towards his grandchildren before purposely looking over Natsuo and Fuyumi to Shoto, his smile widening. "And you've grown as well I can see. It's a pity we don't see each other as much Shoto. I hear great things from you."

And it was obvious to tell Todoroki was uncomfortable, slightly bowing his head before replying. "Grandfather, you look well."

Noticing the shun, the two rejected kids looked between each other before Fuyumi lifted a nervous hand towards a table. "This way grandfather, we have a place for you right here.."

For the first time, the red haired man turned towards the girl before staring back for a few seconds and turning in the direction of the table, not taking the time to acknowledge her existence. "How wonderful, thank you..."

His voice trailed off, causing the white haired woman to invisibly sadden, knowing he didn't finish his sentence only because he didn't know her name. "Fuyumi."

Snapping his fingers, the man just barely gave her a nod of acceptance. "Ah yes, that's it. Thank you Fuyumi. Let us continue our conversation at the table then. Come everyone.."

And everyone complied, Amari sitting next to Todoroki before their grandfather turned to Endeavor a moment later. "So Enji, I see you've gotten soft over these last few years. You know, that won't bode well for the symbol of peace."

Bakugo then watched as Endeavor's eyes suddenly changed before she just barely noticed him lowering his head in defeat. It was certainly strange to see, given how strong and proud the man always was.

For whatever reason, Amari didn't like it.

But she continued to keep her mouth shut, watching silently as Todoroki answered for him. He must have seen the change in his father also. "Father is in no way like the previous symbol of peace that is true but I still believe he is worthy enough for the title as he is now.."

And that was certainly surprising, everyone knowing that Todoroki would always be the first person to put down his father when he got the chance. Seeing him speak so proudly couldn't help but make Amari smile, knowing how far they'd come.

His grandfather seemed equally as surprised though, a small chuckle escaping his lips. "Admirable words Shoto. I always thought that All Might never deserved that title. That's why Enji tried so hard to surpass him after all. And though he used to be a pathetic little boy that wanted to quit, we wouldn't let him. No, he kept fighting in All Might's shadow and look at what happened..we won."

Smiling to himself, the man continued darkly. "The Todoroki family deserves to be number one, not that second rate poster child. Although watching him retire wasn't something I thought I'd ever see in my lifetime. Perhaps that's why you're seen as soft Enji, because you never actually defeated All Might, did you?"

Endeavor eyes immediately turned wild at that, his hands balled under his fists as the rejection from his own father poured into him, pushing him down just like it used to do as a child.

Clasping his hands together, Todoroki's grandfather then turned to Shoto before smiling. "But it seems you finally did something right after so many years. Look at you Shoto, so strong so powerful. You are everything the Todoroki line needs in order to last for generations. Yes it took years to achieve but it was truly worth it I believe.."

The way they spoke at Todoroki made Amari quietly seethe. Was this always how he was treated, as an object, as a product that would solidify their legacy? He didn't even look at Natsuo and Fuyumi as his grandkids. He looked at them as mistakes, as disposable trash and she hated everything about it.

Mostly because the way he was speaking, the words he was using was so much like the manipulation tactics she used to hear from All for One that it made her sick.

But still, she held her tongue as the man finally turned his eyes only to Amari. "My apologies. Here I am talking about the past when the future's right in front of me. Now tell me Miss Bakugo, what profession are your parents in?"

Not expecting that question, Amari quickly lifted her hands before replying the best she could. "Oh, well my parents are both fashion designers for a small shop in Tokyo. They are pretty impressive I have to say."

Todoroki's grandfather then lowered his eyes before immediately starting his next question, almost like he didn't care about her answer. "And what about your quirk?"

Feeling the whiplash of the conversation, Amari answered. "It's gold matter and explosions. Although my gold matter quirk is far stronger than the other given my experience."

Almost immediately, the older man spoke over her. "Any drawbacks?"

This caused Amari to stop as Todoroki answered for her, his tone slightly annoyed "Grandfather, that is a highly inappropriate question."

Yet the man only waved his hand away, like he was waving the criticism away. "I just want to know more about the young lady you have invited to share our blood line with. I think it's a very standard question, don't you think Miss Bakugo?"

His eyes then bore into hers, like he was daring her to interject as the girl felt a ball of irritation in her throat. He wanted an answer, then fine. "No, it's quite alright. My body has always been fairly weak from my quirk so if I push myself past my own stamina level then my quirk will burn me from the inside and destroy my organs. To put it simply, if I push myself too far, I'll die."

Widening his eyes at the explanation, Todoroki's grandfather remained silent for a moment before finally speaking back with disbelief. "And you still want to be a hero with that kind of quirk?"

Amari didn't have any hesitation though, speaking plainly. "Yes sir. I believe that it doesn't matter what my defects are or how hard I have to work. I will prove to everyone that I deserve to stand on the same level as them."

And the older man couldn't help but stare at her after that response, his lips pushing together in an amused smirk. "My, what an interesting woman you are Miss. Bakugo. I certainly didn't expect that kind of response today."

Bakugo wasn't sure if that was meant to be a compliment or not given his tone but she remained silent either way, causing the man to continue. "And if I may ask, what drew you to Shoto in the first place? I am curious how a woman such as yourself would choose him.."

The question seemed to have many meanings, ones that Amari couldn't understand before deciding to answer truthful. "To put it simply, he was the first person to reach his hand out to me regardless of my fate or defects. He taught me how to love myself and he showed me that I was worth living. And it's not just him, Fuyumi and Natsuo have supported me, Endeavor took a chance and trained me even though it seemed impossible to succeed and Toya.."

Amari stopped her voice at his name, lowering her eyes sadly before finishing. "Toya showed me that I was worthy enough to be saved, to change the world for everyone that thinks they don't matter."

Looking up to meet his eyes, Bakugo then smiled. "I guess what I'm trying to say is that it isn't just Shoto, but I love everyone in this family. I'll protect them with everything I have and I'm honored to be a part of them soon."

Her words caused everyone to look at the girl silently, Endeavor, Fuyumi and Natsuo especially touched at her words. Her response, it seemed so genuine, so pure. "Amari.."

Although they were stopped when Todoroki's grandfather raised from his seat before already making his way towards the door. "I've heard enough. Miss Bakugo, would you walk me out please? I would like to speak to you."

Not really understanding, Amari immediately stood before following him towards the door quickly. "Yes, of course."

Everyone still seated seemed slightly concerned at that only for Amari to shake her head, giving them a small smile before following the man, curious to know what his strange comment meant. "Mr. Todoroki, is everything alright?"

This caused the older man to stop before turning towards the small girl, his lips curved together and reaching into his pocket. "Here you go my dear, take it."

Looking down, Bakugo's eyes then turned towards his hand before letting her mouth fall open with disbelief, seeing what he was offering her with such an expression.

It was money.

Still not understanding, Amari stuttered back. "What are you doing?"

Yet the older man only narrowed his eyes before pushing the money closer to her. "Is it not enough? If so, name your price and I can have it delivered to you in a day's time."

Looking at the colored bills in his hand, Bakugo still remained silent as Todoroki's grandfather asked smoothly. "Or would you prefer recognition for your agency? I suppose that would help you more in your ranks I suppose."

Amari then twisted her brow before speaking. "I'm sorry I don't understand. Why are you offering me these things in the first place?"

Yet that's when the man stepped closer to her, lowering down with clear disgust. "I realize that you may love my grandchild but the Todoroki line can only accept the best of the best, and you my dear are not in that category."

Widening her eyes with disbelief, the man continued. "Yes Enji has grown soft but I am not one to disregard the facts. Your quirk is weak and disposable and I will not allow someone as perfect as Shoto to continue our line with a common woman who can offer nothing to us."

His words were like fire, tearing into her slowly as Amari felt that hot ball of anger burn in the back of her throat, wanting so bad to tell him off but knowing it would do nothing good. "Excuse me?"

Although Todoroki's grandfather didn't seem to notice, just speaking plainly. "You as a low born may not understand but people like us need to always be thinking about the future and your blood will only sole the Todoroki name. And if you had a child, then they would surely inherit the imperfections you have, rendering them useless like Enji's other children."

Amari had expected his rejection but this was far worse she could ever imagined, recalling Endeavor's conversation with her at the sports festival. It was like that but ten times worse. No wonder Todoroki's father ended up the way he did.

She thought back to Todoroki's mothers comment a couple years ago when she explained that Endeavor's parents were strict, that they had changed him into the horrible man he used to be, and Amari could see it.

This man seemed to be obsessed with power, legacy and quirks, so much so that his influence and pressure must have corrupted Endeavor in some way, making him embrace his fathers ways to abuse his children.

It was horrible, so horrible and the girl could finally understand just where this sort of behavior stemmed from, where Endeavor, Toya and Shoto inevitably fell victim to at some time or another.

The hatred the Todoroki's harbored ran deep, and it was plain as day here.

Nodding back, the man then began to push the money towards her once again. "That is why you can name your price Miss Bakugo. As long as you disappear from my family, I can give you whatever you desire."

Now Amari knew why he had offered her money in the first place, why he was saying all of these things. He was trying to pay her off in order to cancel her engagement with Shoto.

He didn't approve of her, just like Endeavor used to say many years ago.

And the girl should have been kind, she should've respectfully rejected his offer but before she even noticed it, her Bakugo side started to leak through. "With all due respect, you can take that money and shove it up your own ass sir."

Widening his eyes at the disrespect, the old man replied. "I beg your pardon?"

Yet Amari was too angry to stop her tongue, spitting back with a glare. "You heard me, and I'm also going to respectfully disagree with your points because it seems like you don't know what the hell you're even talking about…"

Taking a step further, the girl continued. "First of all, Endeavor's other children have names and you need to use them. Also I'm going to need you to stop referring to Shoto as a damn object cause it's starting to piss me off. He's not your little toy or masterpiece, he's a person. Respect that."

Unable to stop her unruly tongue, Amari eyes began to lock in a glare. "Also the fact that Endeavor is kinder now is not his weakness, it's his strength. Stop looking at him like a mirror image of your shitty personality because he's not. He turned out so much better without your toxic ass influence."

Then she narrowed her eyes towards the horrible man before finishing. "And I don't know what kind of pretentious bullshit you're trying to spew but absolutely nothing will get me to leave this family. So, it looks like you're stuck with me, grandfather."

She spoke the term with such malice and disdain, knowing that it would purposely get under his skin as others in his family called him that title. "You, you're even worse than I thought you were.."

Crossing her arms over her chest, the girl only smirked. "Thank you. I've been told that before, surprisingly."

Todoroki's grandfather then put the money back into his pocket, knowing he'd get nowhere with that tactic before leaning forward on his cane. "You're in over your head girl. Your foolish way of thinking is only going to hurt Shoto in the end."

Twisting her brow in slight curiosity, Amari scoffed. "Yeah and how is that? Go ahead and enlighten me old man."

Todoroki's grandfather then spoke plainly. "Do you really think high society will recognize someone like you as part of the Todoroki family? You aren't from a well known family or have any special talents or skills that make you useful. There are hundreds of women that I know would be a better fit than you."

Shaking his head, the man scoffed. "That's why I pushed Enji to arrange a quirk marriage for Shoto, just like when he was a young boy but that stubborn child turned down all the requests as soon as he started training you."

The man then eyed her with disgust before continuing. "But what Enji refused to tell you is that you are not fit to enter this family, not in the slightest. There are things that Shoto and even his rejected children have learned that you have not. That's what puts you worlds below us, and it always will.."

And as much as she hated his words, the man did have a point to them somewhere. Amari had noticed it more than ever before, her lack of understanding of everything high society and upper crust. She didn't fit in that side and it was painfully obvious to her and everyone involved.

Yes, it was true that there were probably hundreds of other women that would match the Todoroki name better, that would put honor on their legacy but that wasn't the kind of person Shoto was. He never did care about these things and Amari had only noticed them after she had agreed to marry him.

But even so, the last thing she wanted was to cause shame to her love, for people to look down on him because of her. Yes he was an asshole but he had a point, and the last thing Amari wanted to do was bring down the very family she loved.

And for that reason, she spoke back. "What if I showed you I can learn those things? That I can stand on the same level as you and Shoto?"

The words were almost laughable to the man. "That's impossible. Most people have had their entire lifetime to learn such things."

Yet Amari's expression didn't change. "That didn't answer my question."

He seemed taken back at that, leaning back from his cane before thinking. "Hypothetically, if you were able to accomplish such an impossible feat then you would have my full support going forward."

Almost immediately, the sense of a challenge filled Amari's mind before nodding back plainly. "Then I'll do it. I'll show you I'm serious. I'm not backing down from this."

Pressing his lips together, Todoroki's grandfather then smirked in amusement before lifting his hand out. "Alright, but if you fail you will step away from Shoto and cancel the engagement without resistance..."

And that should have been the phrase that got Amari to think about what she was actually doing, to pull back and accept defeat. But unfortunately, her desire to show this man up was far too great for her to understand any of those things.

Nodding back, Amari accepted the hand before glaring. "Deal."

The air was silent for a moment before Todoroki's grandfather's lips turned up into a small, thinking he had already won their impossible bet. "Very well. I'll send a list over of things you must master before the engagement ball next week. Good luck Miss. Bakugo."

Then he strolled away as Amari watched him go, a frown etched on her face.

Although, that was also the exact moment when she thought about what she had actually agreed to. Oh shit, I'm so dead..

After hearing the door shut, the rest of the Todoroki family seemed to appear as well, Shoto moving up the girl first. "Amari, are you alright? He didn't say anything to you, did he?"

Staring forward in utter shock, the girl looked towards her hands before speaking rather monotone, like she was still trying to process what had happened. "He offered me money to stay away from you."

Almost immediately, everyone's faces twisted in disgust as Todoroki balled his fist. "He did what?!"

And it seemed like Natsuo and Fuyumi seemed to share in his anger, the girl huffing. "I knew it was bad when he didn't leave right away. I'm sorry Amari."

Although Endeavor only watched his trainee with hallowed eyes, knowing the kind of stance that she was displaying anywhere, and that was the face she made wherever she regretted some sort of choice. "Bakugo.."

Slightly jumping at his tone, Amari forced herself to turn towards Endeavor as he frowned, already knowing what was coming. "What did you do?"

Widening her eyes at her utter transparency, Bakugo forced a small laugh to lips before placing an anxious hand to her neck. "O-Oh you know, nothing much.."

Yet that caused Todoroki to move up to her with concern as Endeavor spoke again. "Spit it out, now."

Jumping at the order, Amari then closed her eyes in shame before finally spilling her mistake for her soon to be family. "Ah well, You see, it's a really funny story. I may have created a bet that entitles learning how to be a proper lady by the time of the party or else I have to break off the engagement with no resistance.…"

And all at once, everyone in that room widened their eyes in disbelief before shouting back roughly, like the woman in front of them was indeed crazy.

"You did what?!"

Immediately putting her hands out in defense, the girl tried to explain herself from the angry mob of fire and ice. "I know I know I know but he insulted you, all of you! And I couldn't just let him say that. Yeah I may have gotten a little carried away but.."

Although Endeavor was quick to cut her off. "A little?! Bakugo do you even know what you have done? What kind of impossible challenge you set yourself up for?"

Giggling nervously, the girl replied. "Uhh well it kind of just happened? Ha ha ha.."

Endeavor couldn't help but shake his head in disappointment, knowing just how easily Bakugo agreed to things out of pure spite. "Unbelievable."

Todoroki seemed to share in his concern, moving up the girl with a frown. "Amari, why would you do that? What if you are unable to meet his demands? Our engagement, how could you bet something like that?"

Yet the girl's eyes softened immediately, touching her engagement ring before replying. "I don't plan on losing. Don't worry Shoto, the last thing I'll ever do is cancel our engagement. I'll just have to work around this somehow."

Then she felt a small amount of panic in her chest before running a hand through her hair. "But how am I going to do this? I don't even know where to start.."

Although that's when Endeavor snapped his fingers before a group of maids appeared at the man sighed. "Find out what my father wants Bakugo to master and schedule those lessons immediately."

They all muttered an agreement before the man turned to his soon to be daughter in law with a knowing look, silently telling her that even though the two annoyed each other he wasn't going to let her fail.

"Looks like we have a long road ahead of ourselves."

And that road proved to be far more difficult than Amari could have ever imagined.

Sure, she was tortured, brainwashed and manipulated in the past, forced to fight until her entire body gave out but these lessons that Endeavor has scheduled probably to be just as worse as all of those things combined.

Todoroki's grandfather was right in the fact that the girl was utterly clueless about all of these things. Between the dance lessons, flower arranging classes and etiquette courses, the girl thought she was going to go insane in just a couple days.

She hadn't slept since then either, forcing Katsuki to take over the agency duties as she stayed at the Todoroki estate in order to learn these impossible feats by the engagement party in less then a week.

"Incorrect Miss Bakugo. Try again."

Shaking her head, the girl yawned before trying her posture again, the motion causing her entire back to spike with pain as she lifted up her arms in order to show the teacher a proper hold for dancing.

The woman seemed to notice this as well though. "A lady stifles her yawns and never shows her feelings to the public. It's seen as disgraceful and rude. Please do try to remember that."

Groaning internally, Amari tiredly nodded her head before following the steps the teacher had instructed before misstepping a moment later as the woman sighed. "Incorrect. How many times are we going to have to review this same lesson?"

The girl only looked down at her feet though, the blisters from her heeled shoes digging into her soles as Amari sighed. Why couldn't she do this one simple thing? She had to, or else she'd have to admit failure.

Although that's when the door opened next to her as Todoroki stepped into the space, speaking to the bowing woman next to him. "I would like to speak to Amari for a couple minutes."

Nodding her head, the teacher immediately complied. "Of course Master Todoroki. Take as much time you need. Be careful of your feet though, she likes to step on them."

She was referring to their previous dance lesson as Amari rolled her eyes, now seeing Todoroki move up to her with concern in his own features. "Are you alright? Things haven't been too hard for you, have they?"

And just like that it was as if a new burst of energy entered the girl, Bakugo immediately shaking her head in order to show him her strength. "Whaa? No of course not. I'm okay.."

Yet she paused when Todoroki brushed a couple fingers under her eyes, tracing the dark circles that were emerging. "Please don't lie to me. You look exhausted. Have you slept at all since all of this started?"

Knowing she couldn't lie to the boy, Amari sighed roughly, closing her eyes to his touch. "Not really. But it's okay, it will all be worth it when I show that old man just how serious I am…"

Although she was quickly stopped with a yawn, causing Todoroki to frown before dropping his hand from her face. He hated when she did this, disregarding her own health and wellbeing for the sake of someone else.

So much so that the boy reached down before sweeping Amari off of her feet as she cradled in his arms, lifting her even higher into his chest before the girl gasped in response. "Whaaa S-Shoto?! What are you doing..?!"

Yet the boy didn't answer, only taking the girl into a separate room, one that outlooked the garden before placing her down on the bench without another word.

Once she was on the bench, Todoroki then leaned down to his knees before slowly taking off Amari's heeled dance shoes and frowning. "I knew it."

Gazing at her scarred and blistered feet, the boy then closed his eyes before already moving towards a small shelf in the corner and pulling out a medical kit. "Shoto?"

Although that's when Todoroki moved back over to her, bending to his knees as he carefully began to mend her broken feet. "You seemed off balance before and I had a feeling this was why.."

Amari saw the movements before a light blush began to cover her cheeks, silently thankful for the boy as he very clearly tried to fix the mistakes of her own incompetence.

Getting a cotton ball out of the box, the boy then immediately saddened. "I'm sorry."

Not understanding, Amari looked down to meet his eyes. "What are you sorry for? It's my fault I don't know any of these things."

Yet the boy didn't feel the same, his hand touching her foot before running his fingers across one of the bruises caused by her shoes. "That's not it. You wouldn't have to go through any of this if I was from a normal family. You're hurting yourself for it, and I hate it.."

Amari felt her body relax as his touch, answering back a moment later. "But it's because I love your family that I'm doing this. If I really am going to be your wife, then I want to fully experience everything about you, even this."

Although Todoroki still didn't feel satisfied, the boy pulling a small roll of bandages in the process. "Even I don't enjoy this part of my family. I find it all so foolish and pointless, even as a child. Those kinds of people, they never cared for me, only what my name held."

Beginning to roll the bandages around her foot, he continued. "My father even suggested I go to a higher rated academy than U.A. but I never wished for that kind of life. I just wanted to be looked at as a person, not as a weapon that could be used for others gain."

Todoroki then let his eyes fall. "I don't want that for you Amari, I don't want you to experience any more hardship but it seems with my family it's only inevitable. You are everything to me and I don't care what kind of status that brings me. I want you because you are you, the woman I love. That's all."

Smiling softly at his words, Amari hummed. "I know you do, and I'm grateful you don't think like that but I want to prove to your grandfather that I can stand on equal level with you, that I belong in this family. I know it may seem silly, but I really want to show them who I am, and how much I love you.."

Todoroki then pushed her foot down to the floor, his eyes sad. "I understand, but I don't wish for you to continue hurting yourself like this. It breaks my heart knowing that my family is the one that's caused it.

Sighing to himself, the boy added. "I just want to make you the happiest woman in the world…"

The room was met with silence then as the boy twisted his head in concern only to find that woman he loved fast asleep, leaning against the wall for support as her breath echoed back softly.

Todoroki couldn't help but smile at that, knowing she probably had fallen asleep after closing her eyes. He must have been even more exhausted than he had previous thought.

Standing up slowly, the boy reached forward before placing a couple strands of hair behind her ears in silent admiration and planting a light kiss on her forehead. "Don't worry, I'll protect you."

Then he reached forward to the blanket on his left before carefully tucking the woman in and sitting beside her so that her head could fall onto her shoulder with a happy hum.

Todoroki then closed his eyes before crossing his arms as relaxation filled his entire body as well, letting her small breath cause him to lull himself to sleep as well. Sleep well beautiful. You deserve it.

A couple days later it was finally the day of the engagement party as Amari bursted into her agency roughly, the girl's heeled steps causing Katsuki to turn his head at her voice. "Hey Katsuki, sorry I'm late. Just had to get a few more lessons in before the party.."

Staring at his sister, the boy couldn't believe his eyes, her attire and heeled shoes causing the boy to raise a brow. "It's about time. What the hell were you even doing anyways?! You're late.."

Automatically bowing, the words stubbled out of Amari's lips before she could even process them. "Apologies, but you see I had to.."

Yet that's when Bakugo cut his sister off, disbelief in his own tone. "Whoa whoa hold on. When the fuck did you start saying apologies? You are starting to sound like that icy hot bastard. Cut that shit out."

Blinking in surprise, Amari seemed to catch that as well before placing a nervous hand to her neck. "Sorry, I guess those classes are really paying off. The last few days have been crazy, thanks for covering for me."

Katsuki couldn't help but scoff at that, throwing a stack of papers onto his desk. "You're damn right. While you ghosted me I'm trying to hold this agency together. Also, what the hell are you wearing? You don't wear those kinds of shoes.."

Looking down at her heeled shoes, Amari replied plainly. "Oh, well I thought they could help me practice for the party tonight. And they aren't that bad.."

Although he could see the warning signs in her words, the boy immediately calling her out on them. "What the fuck happened to you? You seem different. Are those Todoroki's messing with your head or something?"

Automatically raising her eye in question, the girl turned her head. "Not at all. They are just helping me become a better lady so I can stand beside them on equal ground. That's all."

Turning away from him, Amari then went to put a couple reports away as Katsuki stared at his sister with utter disbelief. Her words usage, her overly polite behavior, her new way of dressing, it was completely unlike her in every way.

So much so, that the boy felt like he had to snap her out of her own delusions, reaching forward before purposely yanking the hair tie from her neatly "un Amari like" bun she had styled. "No, they are making you act like a completely different person. Why are you letting those rich assholes brainwash you like this? It's pissing me off."

Feeling her hair unravel, the girl turned around before angrily reaching for her hair tie as Bakugo pushed his hand up into the air, just far enough away so she couldn't reach it. "Katsuki, give it back!"

Yet her brother only frowned, waving the object in order to anger her more. "Not until you go back to how you were before. Why are you doing all of this anyways? You don't care what any asshole thinks, so why now?!"

Twisting her lips with a scowl, Amari huffed back. "You don't understand. I have to prove that I belong in that family, I have to show Todoroki's grandfather that I can take his stupid bet and win!"

Although her response only seemed to anger her brother further. "Yeah, and by doing that you are trying to ignore everything about yourself. You are not a Todoroki, you are not some rich selfish bitch, you are my sister so start acting like it already before I punch it into you!"

Amari couldn't help but widen her eyes at his words, a small bit of anger in the back of her throat. She wasn't being a selfish bitch, she just wanted to show the Todoroki's that she could also fit into their world, that she could belong beside Shoto as his equal. Why wasn't he seeing that?

The way she was now, the incompetence she held wasn't good enough. She didn't want to embarrass the family she loved so much, that's all it is.

So much so that Amari jumped up to grab her hair tie as Katsuki lifted the object even further in order to trick her. "You don't understand. They are my family, Katsuki, I have to be better for them!"

Yet that's when a cloud of hurt flashed into her brother's eyes, his lips twisting together in fury as her words invisibly punched him in the face. It was happening, just like he always feared.

She was forgetting him, pushing him aside to make the Todoroki's happy.

Balling his hands into a fist, Katsuki then locked eyes with his sister before speaking back plainly. "Yeah? Well so am I, or did you forget that already?"

Widening her eyes at his words, Amari quickly felt a wave of shame wash over her as she immediately tried to backtrack, knowing that wasn't the intention behind her statement. "Katsuki, what are you saying? Oh course I haven't forgotten that you're my family too."

Yet the boy only pushed his hand down before throwing the hair tie into her face with a look of devastation and anger. "Fine. Go ahead and be better for them, change everything about yourself in order to please them, become a Todoroki to the point where I can't even fucking recognize you anymore..."

Then he lowered his eyes as his words pierced his sister like an invisible sword. "But just know that I never once thought you had to change. I always thought you were good enough how you were..."

Throwing his last stacks of paperwork onto his desk, Katsuki then turned towards the door before muttering back. "Have fun with your new family."

Then he slammed the door to his office, causing Amari to flinch before looking down at her hair tie and heeled shoes with devastation.

She wasn't trying to change everything about herself, she just wanted to prove that she could also be respected in Todoroki's world. Was that so bad?

Was it so bad to want to make her soon to be family proud?

After Katsuki's words, Amari wasn't sure anymore.

Hearing the loud hum of music, Bakugo looked down into her champagne glass before sighing roughly, her mind still full of chaos, too much to actually enjoy the party she had been planning for months.

She quickly realized that this large event wasn't about her at all but rather for the public to swoon and gossip about the couple to be while they filled their magazines and articles with the latest pictures and interviews from close friends and family.

Everything just felt so suffocating.

Gazing towards her left, she just barely made out Katsuki's profile, scoffing to himself as he put the glass in his hand closer to his lips with the scowl. She was happy he had shown up given their fight but the two twins still felt an ocean away from each other even so.

Sighing once more, Amari than back towards the conversation she was in the middle of, just barely registering an older gentlemen chuckle before speaking back. "Yes yes, it is rather tragic. But I'm so glad to finally be acquainted with you Bakugo. I hear great things from your new agency."

The girl tried to register anything he just said, coming up blank before managing a simple head bow in respect. "Thank you very much. It's lovely to be acquainted with you as well. I hope you are enjoying the party?"

He chuckled in response as Todoroki placed a light hand to her upper back in support, encouraging her silent before speaking towards the unnamed investor. "Yes, Amari has truly outdone herself I believe."

His words were enough for a light blush to appear on her cheeks as the man nodded back a moment later. "Ah yes, everything is wonderful indeed. And first I was a bit wary of you young lady, what with your background and all but now I see I have nothing to worry about. The Todoroki line is in good hands."

And that should have made Amari happy, knowing that she was winning the bet placed by Todoroki's grandfather, but after everything that has happened with her brother the girl could barely manage a smile.

Lucky for her though, the man then turned his attention on Todoroki. "Also young man, I was wondering if I could speak to you alone for a moment? There are a few people that have been dying to make your acquaintance."

Almost immediately, Todoroki turned his head towards her about to reject the offer before the girl spoke over him, a wave of acceptance in her voice. "It's quite alright. You two have fun. I'll make the rounds over here."

That was enough for the older gentlemen to practically pull Todoroki away from his soon to be wife before the girl dropped her smile all together, sighing into her cup once more.

Turning around, Amari then focused her sight on her brother, wanting to speak to him about their fight when a body seemingly collided with her, the red wine in the women's cup soaking the front of her dress.

The blonde haired girl looked down at the stain with widened eyes before the other woman with short brown hair and large glasses immediately began to panic. "Oh no! I'm so sorry Bakugo. I wasn't looking where I was going and look what happened…"

It was obvious to tell the girl was having a panic attack, causing Amari to to lower herself down to her knees before extending her hand towards the woman. "Hey, it's okay. It's just a little wine. I'm sure it can be washed out."

This seemed to calm the girl down though, quickly grabbing onto Bakugo's hand before pulling her to meet her glassy eyes. "Come on, I'll help you. It's the least I can do."

Taken back by her request, she felt the strange girl practically push her towards the door as Amari felt the whiplash of the conversation. This girl sure seemed frantic to help her out. Perhaps she was just nervous? "Oh, uhh okay…"

She took one look at Todoroki who was still talking a few feet away before following the unknown woman into the back room, knowing that this would only take a few minutes anyways.

Once they reached the room, the woman quickly went to the small sink in the corner, grabbing a towel in order to wash the stain out before it dried as she started to make conversation with Amari. "I'm really sorry again. This is all my fault."

Although the girl didn't seem to mind, only focusing on finding the light switch to the room so they weren't in the dark. "Hey don't worry about it. Mistakes happen. Thanks for helping me out though, I really appreciate it."

Giggling to herself, the brown haired girl replied. "I guess I was just really excited to be here. This party has really been the talk of the town you know? Everyone is talking about how you and that cute boy are getting married. You've caught some serious attention."

At the word cute, Amari's lips twisted into a frown as a small bit of jealousy entered her throat, still feeling around for the light switch. "Oh yeah? I had a feeling it would be, given how many reporters were outside. So are you a friend of Shoto's then?"

Hearing the water start to run, the girl replied with slight amusement. "In a way, I guess you could say I know both of you pretty well. We have met a couple times after all."

And her words are certainly strange, mostly because Amari had never seen this woman before in her life. She seemed kind of weird but perhaps there was something she was missing? "And where was that?"

Another giggle echoed through the space as the girl finally felt her fingers brush along the light switch just as the brown haired woman reached into her bag in order to pull out a knife in the darkness. "You know, I think you should keep that stain. Red is my favorite color after all.."

Her words sounded oddly seductive, causing Amari's eyes to twist in confusion as she flicked on the light at the same time, finally seeing who exactly was in the room with her.

She just barely had time to make out the brief silhouette of Todoroki's grandfather on the floor, gagged and tied up before the woman's voice changed into something else entirely. "In fact, why don't you show me some more..?!"

Widening her eyes, the girl felt the woman just inches behind her, bringing the knife down before Amari used her quirk to cover her arm with gold matter as the object bounced off her.

Amari then took a step back as she finally made out with the blonde haired girl in front of her, her facade melded away into her true form. "Toga, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

Giggling softly, the girl swirled her knife around before licking the tip once. "Ahh look how angry you are! I love it. You aren't still mad about my tasting that cute little Todoroki's blood a couple years ago, are you?"

At the very idea, Amari's gritted her teeth before glancing towards Todoroki's grandfather to quickly examine his injuries. "You know, now that you bring it up, I am still pissed about that. Thank you."

Although Toga seemed to take pride in that, racing forward with her knife outstretched as Amari quickly dodged to her left. "Aw I'm glad. But you know Bakugo, that was only the beginning. Just wait until Shigi is done with both of you. I can't wait to see it….!"

Seeing the knife come towards her again, Bakugo cursed before trying to dodge her attacks one by one, while thinking about her words.

Shigaraki was here too? Shit, that couldn't be good. She had to get back to that party, who knows what kinds of chaos the league could cause while she wasn't there?

So much so that in her own fear, one of her dodges was a bit too late, causing Toga to swipe her knife across Amari's face and create a slash across her cheek a moment later.

Gritting her teeth at the pain, the villain pulled back before gleefully licking the substance. "Your blood is so tasty, just like I always thought it would be. Can I have some more, pleaseee?"

She then began throwing her needles at the girl, one of them longing into her calf because of her limited range of movements with the amount of fabric she had on as Toga pulled the girl to the floor a moment later.

Feeling her body scrape against the floor, Amari immediately threw an explosion in her face as the girl shrieked before she forcibly ripped the needles from her leg before punching her in a moment later. "No, you crazy bitch!"

Toga stumbled back a couple steps before reaching into her pocket and throwing a dozen smaller knives and the girl before she used her quirk to deflect them one by one. "Where is Shigaraki? Tell me."

Although that only caused the girl to giggle before racing forward with her giant knife, Amari just barely had enough time to back away from the attack. "If you must know, Shigi is already here. He's going to make all of you bleed and it's going to be so wonderful, bleed just like you did to him when All for One was sent away!"

Her words brought a strike of terror into Amari's throat, growling back before already feeling her Nomu blood work it's way into her arms. "Like hell he will!"

Throwing another knife in her direction, Bakugo then rolled away before using her Nomu blood to punch Toga straight across the face, flecks of blood flying down as the girl gasped in agony.

Then before she had a chance to recover, Amari threw an explosion extremely close to her face, causing the girl to flop onto the ground with a screaming shout.

Moving over to her, the girl just barely registered her knife slicing across her arm before Amari just ignored the blood and punched her once more, rendering her unconscious for now.

Amari then placed her hand to the cut before closing her eyes in unsaid pain as she quickly made her way towards Todoroki's grandfather, removing the gag from his face. "Mr. Todoroki, are you okay? What happened?!"

His eyes locked onto hers before recalling the fight he had just witnessed before Amari began burning the ropes with her gold matter. "That crazy girl, I saw her take out that brown haired girl so she took me to shut me up. Uncultured wench."

Seeing her hand move towards him, the older man couldn't help but immediately back away, having witnessed the brutal fight that she had just engaged in.

Amari didn't seem to mind though, quickly withdrawing her hand before allowing him to stand. "Shit, this is bad. This is really bad. We have to get back to that party. Who knows what's happening right now?"

As if on cue, there was the sound of glass shattering followed by heavy screams causing Amari and the old man to immediately hollow their eyes.

The party, it was being attacked.

Already running up to the door, Amari turned the knob only to find it locked. Well, of course it couldn't be that easy. "I'm going to have to blow it down with my quirk. Stand back."

Watching her shake out her hands in order to channel her quirk better, Todoroki's grandfather spoke towards the crazed girl. "You heard that lady, they are after you. Why is that in the first place?"

Amari couldn't help but think about his question before answering in blunt honesty. "Oh I don't know, it could be because I turned one of their villains good, told Shigaraki to go suck a dick and sent his mentor like father to prison…"

This caused Todoroki's grandfather to widen his eyes at her words. There is no way this small blonde haired girl had the guts to do all of that/ Threatening villains was one thing but turning another one of them into a hero? It seemed this girl knew no bounds.

So much so that the older man, watched her lower her eyes at the danger she was about to willingly face. "Even so. If they are after you then you should just stay here until they other heroes handle it. By going out there you are putting a target on your back."

Although his words only brought the girl slight amusement, cracking her knuckles in silent wait. "Yeah, that's what I'm planning on."

Raising his eyes, Todoroki's grandfather huffed back. "Are you crazy? You are in no position to be fighting villains like this!"

And it seemed like that did register something in Amari, except it wasn't what he had hoped, her lips twisting into a stubborn smirk of realization. "You're right. I can't go out like this."

The man then watched as Amari looked down before ripping her long dress at the knees, pushing the other fabric away before undoing her perfectly placed bun as the soft curls dropped onto her back with a silent challenge.

It's like she was undoing everything she had forced into her for the last week, causing Todoroki's grandfather to widen his eyes in an unnamed shock.

What was she doing, she was going to lose the bet like this, she was going to ruin everything she said she would prove.

So much so that the man couldn't help but question. "What are you..."

Although Bakugo only glared towards the object in question. "Shoto, my brother and everyone I love is out there. You think I'm going to just hide away because some villain wants a fight? I say bring it on.."

Then her lips twisted into a challenging smirk before letting out a giant explosion towards the object in question as the door blasted off its hinges with a loud boom, the smoke filling the entire area as Amari looked towards the battle before her.

Gazing at the crazed girl, the red haired man couldn't help but gawk at the scene before him, not sure if he was impressed or offended by the movement.

She was so different from their entire family, so much so that his lips tumbled out the words before he could even process them. "You are not a Todoroki.."

Yet the only thing Amari could do was bring up lips into a small smile before turning towards Todoroki's grandfather with newfound realization.

"You're right. I'm not a Todoroki, I'm a Bakugo."

I know I promised a wedding chapter but then I realized that the league is still out there so I wanted to finish their arc as well since I gave Shigi and Amari some character building over the series. They deserve a big showdown.

Also since this book is called "His Reasons" the point is to play into why people act the way they do and as I mentioned in S5, Endeavor's parents were a big part of making him an asshole. Plus it's fun to see the parallels from the sports arc conversation to now to see how things have changed.

Also I really wanted to do more badass Amari and cute pre wedding Shoto and Amari moments because they are so cute.

Next Chapter: We see the Bakugo twins agency in action for the first time, Shigaraki comes back and we get a little mini battle before the wedding.
