welcome back everyone's favourite idiot: Tom POV!
Tom went in search of other campers. He might as well make a few friends here if he was gonna be stuck here all summer. At the same time, he could look into Percy and Rachel's relationship with each other. He couldn't let Annabeth get hurt, he just couldn't.
Lost in his thoughts, Tom bumped headfirst into someone and fell to the ground. A gruff voice snappped at him from above.
"Hey, watch it, idiot." Tom looked up and saw a fit, broad shouldered girl leaning over him. "Who the hell are you?"
"Who the hell are you? Yelling at me? It was an accident!"
Or, at least, that's what he wanted to say. But the words just wouldn't come out of his mouth. He staggered up and brushed the dirt off his jeans and instead said:
"Er.. I'm- I'm Tom. The new kid?" Dammit Tom! he thought. Now he seemed weak and fragile. On the bright side, that might make the girl go easy on him.
"Well, Tom. We have a special ritual for new campers here. Want me to show you?" The girl gave him a wicked, gleeful smile, and before Tom could answer, grabbed him by the arm and pulled him off towards a building. Tom tried to pull away, but couldn't. Oh my god. He thought. Wait, no, gods. This girl has got a strong grip!
Tom was helplessly pulled off to the building, with most campers they passed giving him pitiful looks, a few giving smug smiles. They obviously knew what was about to happen. Soon the girl stopped and Tom looked at the block in front of them.
"? ンユᅠ? ンユン? ンユᆬ?"
Ah. So this was the 'ritual'. Unoriginal, but classic.
As he was dragged inside, he thought, Welllll crap.
Annabeth POV
"Ok. I'll go grab my hat, you get the rest. Meet you in 5." Annabeth said to Rachel, grinning, and ran off to find her Yankees cap. Going up the stairs to the Athena cabin in one leap, she jogged inside and grabbed it from her backpack, giving a quick hug to her little brother, Andreas, who was writing in a journal.
Five minutes later, Rachel and Annabeth were around the side of the Poseidon cabin, holding a rope.
"So, here's the plan again. You go knock on Percy's door, then run away. I will light the fuse, and by the time Percy opens the door, the rope will fall and a bucket of blueberry topping will fall on him." She counted to Rachel, watching the redhead struggle to muffle her laughter. They had chosen this prank because it wasn't too mean - no one would love having blue topping on themselves more than Percy. On the other hand, it would take a while to wash out. They thought it a fair trade.
"Ok, go!" Annabeth whispered to Rachel, and she headed round to the front of the building, climbing the stairs and rapping on the door. She listened for a moment, but when she heard what mustve been footsteps, sprinted back around to Annabeth's hiding spot.
"Nice job! Okay, now for the match." Annabeth fumbled around for her matchbox. She opened it and nearly gasped. It was empty! "Uh, Rach? It's empty!"
Rachel looked at Annabeth with wide eyes. Their plan was going to fail. They had mere seconds before Percy would come out. They couldn't miss this - Percy wouldn't come answer the door again if this failed, as he would (rightly) assume it was a prank, or an annoying nine year old doing knock-and-run games.
Annabeth and Rachel quickly digged around in her backpack, to no avail. They were running out of time! Just before Percy turned the door handle, and voice whispered from behind them.
"Need a little help? I find I'm often useful in hot situations?" The figure wiggled their eyebrows, and Annabeth slapped them lightly on the arm.
"Yes, we need your help! Light this, will you?"
"Wow, no need to be so demanding, Annie. What happened to hello?"
"Hello! Now light it, please! We're pranking Percy!"
The person's eyes lit up. "Why didn't you say so?" They easily lit the end of the rope, and watched as it burned out, just as Percy opened the door.
SCHLUUUUURPPPPPPPPPPPPTTTTTT
They all burst out laughing as the raven-haired boy was covered from head to toe in sugary, sticky, blue liquid. Rachel motioned to them all to run, and they sprinted off towards the pavilion. The three of them sat down, and doubled over with laughter.
Annabeth turned to the boy beside her. "Thanks for your help - wouldn't've worked if your annoying face didn't turn up."
The boy gasped. "Annoying?! I'll have you know I am the hottest, most amazing person on Earth!" Annabeth sighed, "Buuuuut, you're welcome. Leo McShizzle is always happy to prank a fellow Seven!"
Leo leaped into a pose with his hands on his hips, looking triumphantly at a camera that wasn't there. "That's right! I'm back, baby!"
Silence.
Rachel spoke up. "Leo, who on earth are you talking to?"
"No one." He replied, sending another wink to the 'camera'.
The strangeness was cut off by a muffled shout from the bathrooms block, and the sound of rushing water. Annabeth sighed.
"I told Clarisse to stop giving new campers swirlies. Some things just don't get through to that girl." She shook her head, smiling to herself, before jogging off towards the building. "I'll see you guys later!"
She got to the bathrooms just in time to see a blonde-haired boy stagger out, his entire head and neck dripping with water. Clarisse emerged behind him triumphantly.
"Name's Clarisse. And don't you forget it, punk." She spat the last word, and crossed her arms, smiling. "Oh, hey Annabeth."
Annabeth sighed. "You do remember Chiron and I telling you to stop that?"
"Yes. I just ignored it." She looked at the boy next to her, who was still dripping, "Besides, this squirt deserved it."
Annabeth knew at this point Clarisse wouldn't listen to a word she said. "Okay, then. Just- nevermind." Clarisse marched off, and Annabeth turned to the boy, who pushed his hair out of his face. "Oh, dear. Tom, you okay?" Tom nodded his tomato red face, "Let's go dry you off." He nodded again, and they walked towards the Hermes cabin, where he was staying for now.
