Last time on T & T:
He held out the bouquet to her with a tight, nervous smile.
"Uh- um- Hi Annabeth. I was..." He swallowed. "I was wondering if you wanted to, uh, go out with me sometime?"
Tom POV
Tom's mind was racing. He was manifesting her acceptance in his head, along with other worrying thoughts.
What if she hates me? What if she says no? This was a bad id-
His anxiety was cut off by sharp laughter. From Annabeth.
She had doubled over, and was cracking up. "Good one!" She said, catching her breath. "It's not April Fools, but that was a good prank! You really had me there for a sec, bud." She gave him a playful punch on the arm. Tom couldn't believe was he was hearing. She- She thought it was a joke?! He had to show her his utter adoration and admiration of her, and how serious he was.
"I wasn't joking, Annabeth." He said, setting his shoulders and adopting a confident stance. Annabeth's grin faded. "The truth is... I've been in love with you since we met, and I believe that we are truly meant to be. We have so much in common, and my being a demigod is just another sign from the universe, from the gods that we are soulmates! Can't you see that?"
Annabeth was looking at him with wide eyes, filled mostly with disbelief, confusion and the smallest hint of anger. Her mouth was slightly open, mostly likely unknowingly. (literally shes just like ? ᄌマ? ゚ムチ️)
Nevertheless, Tom continued. He thought perhaps his honesty and confidence would impress the girl. "Look, I know you're dating Percy, but I would be a way better boyfriend than him! You deserve someone who can keep up with your intelligence!" Tom shrugged. "Percy, just can't do that. But I could! I would do all the things he doesn't do and more because I love you, Annabeth! Don't you see he's just another player? I know you think you guys are forever or something because you've been together for, like, a year, but soon enough he gonna see someone he thinks is prettier and dump your gorgeous, gorgeous ass! Okay, I know that you are the most beautiful, smartest, kindest, most amazing girl out there and Percy doesn't realize that like I do."
He took a deep breath. "I'll treat you right, Annabeth. You're the only thing I want. So, go out with me?"
Tom finally looked at Annabeth's face for the first time after his speech. Mistake.
Her eyes were swirling tornadoes of rage that made Tom shrink back into himself. He wanted to disappear, but he didn't regret any of what he had said. It was all true, and if Annabeth couldn't handle that, then Tom would have to make her realize the reality of the situation. This confidence soon vanished as he saw Annabeth's fists curled into balls at her side, her expression filled with a dangerous calm. She took a step toward him.
"If you ever," she jabbed him in the chest, hard. "Say anything" She poked him again. "Like that to me, ever again-" In a flash she grabbed his arm, faster than he could see and yanked him upwards. The world spun as Tom was, what he presumed to be, judo-flipped and pain shot through him as he landed on the concrete. He groaned and turned to the side, but Annabeth's voice made him turn back. She leaned in, their noses almost touching. Tom closed his eyes and puckered his lips, ready for the kiss. A jolt of pain shot through his face, his cheek stinging as she slapped him. "-It'll hurt a hell of a lot more than this." She got up, stepping on his hand with her boot as he went, making Tom cry out in pain.
"Oops." She said, in a very un-Annabeth-like tone, looking back with a sickly sweet, very un-Annabeth-like smile. Annabeth crouched down and picked something off the floor near Tom. The bouquet. "Thanks for the flowers."
She wiggled her fingers in a wave, with a smile that quickly vanished as she turned and stalked off, glaring at everyone who stared. Tom soon saw black spots on his vision, until the world turned black, and he passed out.
*oof tom just got roasted omg the power i felt writing that i hope i described her reaction how i see it in my mind anyway line break hehe*
Annabeth POV
"I just don't know what the actual Zeus he'd been thinking?! Saying all those things. What a βλάκας." Annabeth said to Olive as they walked to first period.
Olive grimaced. "I think, from what you've told me, that he's got the message now."
"I hope so."
"I know so. Tom's persistent, but he isn't that thick-headed."
Annabeth sighed. "I really hope you're right. Soooo, what's happening with you and Rachel, hm?" She wiggled her eyebrows as Olive blushed. "C'mon, let's head to class."
*a couple hours later*
Percy POV
BRRRIING BRIIING
The bell sounded, signalling the end of the day, and Percy pumped his fist in the air before packing up his books. He walked out of the classroom and scanned the hallways before spotting Olive and Annabeth walking together. Percy approached the pair.
"-id you see Tom wasn't at school today?" Olive asked.
"Yeah," said Annabeth. "Must've scared him off or something. I feel bad, but not bad enough so that I wouldn't do it again. Anyway, we can't let Percy find out-"
"Find what out?" Percy said, now intrigued and annoyed that his girlfriend had been keeping something from him. Annabeth spun around quickly, her expression panicked for a moment but then in a picture of fake annoyance.
"Oh, gods. You caught us! We were planning your surprise birthday party! Dammit." Annabeth said in the single fakest voice ever. Percy scowled.
"I may be dumb, but I am not stupid. You know that Annabeth." He replied, hurt. Did she seriously think he'd be fooled by that?
Olive looked uncomfortable. "I'm just gonna gooo-" Percy grabbed both of them by the wrist and pulled them into an empty science lab. "Orrrrr not."
Percy sat on a desk. "Spill. Both of you."
Annabeth was conflicted, but eventually sighed. "Well-"
All of a sudden a voice echoed from the sink, where the tap had been left on after an experiment. "PERCY, ANNABETH! WE NEED YOUR HELP!"
Percy gave Annabeth a look. "We're continuing this conversation later." He said in a stern voice, before rushing over to the Iris message. He sighed. "What do you need, Leo?"
