OK so in this chapter Callie struggles with her feelings and we find out a little bit more about Dr Arizona Robbins. Thank you so much for the follows and likes and review. Keep them coming.
Two days later
"Why do you let her talk to you like that?" Sam asked angrily as she walked into the physio's office.
Arizona sighed and put down her pen and looked up at her friend who was fuming after another difficult session with Callie Torres.
"Sam I get you are annoyed" Arizona started, but Sam didn't let her finish
"Damn right I'm annoyed. She turns up late for her session, puts zero effort in, talks to you like you don't know what your doing...it's just not on!"
Arizona had thought things had gotten better with Callie, but the last couple of days hadn't gone well. Arizona went to open her mouth again, but Sam wasn't finished
"And she can't blame the jet lag anymore, she's been here nearly two weeks!"
"I know that Sam. And she's been here at the training ground pretty much the whole time, she is frustrated"
"But that doesn't give her the right to take it out on you. For fucks sake Ari, she treats us...and you...like she's the first injured player we've ever seen...doesn't she know who you are?"
"No Sam." Arizona raised her voice "No she doesn't...and that's how I want to keep it OK. Only you and Becky know about my past and I trust you to respect my wishes to keep it that way!" Arizona stared at her friend who nodded.
"Of course we will. You know that! It's just hard standing there listening to her give you attitude when you tell her things that will help her get back on the pitch quicker".
"I understand, and thank you for having my back, I do appreciate it...it's just...I think there is a lot more going on with Torres than we're used to seeing". Arizona told her friend before continuing
"She doesn't know anything about me...to her I'm just another person in a big line of people that currently exist to make sure Callie Torres US super soccer star plays football."
"But what's with the attitude?" Sam asked "you've seen the results from today...she's going backwards not forwards!"
"I know...and it's not the fracture, we know that's healed. So what does that tell you?" Arizona asked, keen to help Sam develop in her learning.
Sam thought for a minute "well if the patella has healed it could be another injury elsewhere that we haven't picked up?" She suggested
"Could be..." Arizona replied "Or it could be psychological" Arizona suggested
"Really?" Sam responded surprised
"Why are you so surprised? Even the most successful players, those at the top of their game can suffer from insecurities or personal problems off the pitch that they bring with them on the pitch...or in Torres's case...into our physio sessions."
"She umm doesn't strike me as someone who had doubts about her ability!" Sam replied whilst using her hands to imitate a big head.
Arizona let out a little chuckle "I know you don't like her...but I have a feeling I might understand what's going on."
"Okaaaay" Sam responded
"Are you still having people round for the game tonight?" Arizona asked
"Yeap come round for 7" Sam confirmed
"Great...I might be bringing a guest with me!"
———-
Callie got the shock of life when she opened the door. Not only was the blonde physio standing there, she wasn't wearing a tracksuit.
Arizona's blonde hair was down for a change, showing off soft natural curls, she had black jeans on with a small rip below one knee, back ankle boots and a red and black plaid shirt over a black vest top. The black leather jacket she wore just finished the outfit off. She also had make up on and gold hoop earring and Callie couldn't take her eyes off her.
In comparison Arizona looked up and down at Callie who was standing in the door in a pair of tiny shorts and vest top with cats on them.
"Nice PJ's" the blonde physio said she walked past the brunette into the apartment and spotted a half eaten tub of chocolate caramel swirl with a spoon in it.
"Really Torres!" Arizona looked over at the brunette who had now closed the front door and joined the blonde in the living room
"What?" She said defensively "it's frozen yoghurt so it's not THAT bad!" as she quickly scooped up the pot and shoved it in the freezer, spoon still in it.
"Whatever! Come on get dressed, you're coming with me" the physio responded
"Where are we going?" Callie asked still in shock that the physio was here
"I'll tell you on the way, come on hurry or else we'll be late!" The blonde said with authority as she took one more glimpse of the Latina in those little shorts. Those caramel legs really were something.
Callie hadn't had much time to think about what to wear and had no idea where they were going, but had thrown on a pair of boyfriend jeans and a white shirt and had just enough time to put on some mascara and a spray of perfume. As she walked back out to join the physio she thought she caught a small smile form on the blondes face, but she couldn't be sure.
Once in Arizona's car Callie asked again where they were going
"We're going to Sam's" Arizona informed her passenger
Oh great! Callie thought. She had been in a foul mood all day today and had been a bitch at the session she had had with the physio team today, and now she had to spend an evening with them.
"But why?" Callie asked
"Well she's invited a few of us over to watch the cup game on tv" Arizona informed the brunette
"Who's playing?" Callie asked completely unaware that there was even a game on.
"Chelsea and Arsenal" Arizona replied
Brilliant! Callie thought again hearing that she would now have to spend the evening watching Jess on TV.
Callie thought back to the other evening when Jess had leant over and kissed her. Callie had pulled back instantly
"Jess stop!" She had said firmly. This wasn't what she wanted from the evening, she should never have come. Fuck it was all a big mess.
"Please Callie" she had pleaded with tears in her eyes "please just talk to me"
"I can't...I can't do this OK..." Callie said getting to her feet "I...I need to go...I'm sorry..."
Once back in the apartment Callie had ignore her phone as Jess called and called and sent text message after message
I'm sorry. I pushed you too far...too fast...
Talk to me Cal...it's just me.
Please don't push me away
It's scary for me too you know
I just want to be with you
I miss you
Callie's head was swimming as she tried to make sense of her feelings. She hadn't meant to hurt Jess, but she wasn't sure of how she felt about her. It was clear that Jess had worked those feelings out, but Callie wasn't there yet...wasn't sure if she ever would be.
Callie hadn't slept well that night and had replayed the scene over and over in her head, each time it had a different outcome. In one she had kissed Jess back, in another they had had sex on the sofa, or they had talked and Callie had explained she wasn't ready and Jess had understood. Why had it had to become so complicated.
It was about 3am when her phone flashed again with another message from Jess
Seeing as you were so keen to know...Arizona was married to someone called Al when she was in GTown.
———-
"Actually...Dr Robbins...you know what, I'm not feeling too good, could you take me back to the training ground please." Callie asked looking over at the blonde who was concentrating on the road.
The next thing she knew Arizona had flicked the indicator, turned off the main road and parked the car. Turning to look at Callie the physio smiled warmly
"Is it the first time?" Arizona waited for a reply
Holy fuck! Callie's mind went racing...did she know, could she tell? Oh my god, Callie was mortified
"Errr what..." Callie responded trying to bluff her way out of this.
"I saw the squad announcement...is it the first time you've not made the cut?" Arizona asked referring to the USA National team squad that had been announced over night in the UK.
Callie let out a huge sigh of relief. For a minute there she had really thought the blonde had some how picked up on what had happened with Jess, about how confused she was feeling, about the fact that even right then, Callie was experiencing something new by just sitting next to the blonde. She had honestly thought Arizona had worked out she was questioning her sexuality.
"Ummm yeah, actually it is" Callie responded. Truthfully, the draft hadn't even crossed her mind what with everything else that was going on.
"Listen Torres, I know it's hard, but we can get you back to your best OK, I just need you to work with us more." The blonde physio said kindly
Shit! She was so sweet, and Callie felt bad lying to her, but she couldn't admit the truth...not to her 'oh thanks Dr Robbins, but actually it's got nothing to do with the USWNT, and everything to do with the fact that I think I might like girls...and I think I might like you!'
Callie realised she needed to respond "I'm sorry, I know I was a bitch today, you must all hate me..."
"No of course not!" Arizona thought of how Sam would react when she showed up tonight with Torres in tow "we're professionals and it's our job to help the team be the best they can, but we need the players to want that as well...and right now Torres...You don't seem to want that for yourself"
Callie looked up at the doctor who had basically called her out "are you accusing me of not trying?" Callie asked annoyed
"I'm telling you what I'm seeing OK. I can only help you, if you want it." Arizona paused and looked straight into those brown eyes "do you want it Calliope?"
Callie felt a throb between her legs as the blonde physio used her full name again. Fuck, this was getting bad!
"I do want it" Callie replied softly "I really do"
————-
Sam opened the door and greeted Arizona who shot her a firm look as her friends face reacted as saw who the guest was behind her.
No words were exchanged between the two physio's but their faces said a lot!
Sam's look was: SERIOUSLY? You bought HER!
And Arizona's look said: PLEASE don't say anything rude!
Sam eyes rolled at Arizona and her lips tightened slightly before the physio welcomed Callie into her house.
"Nice to see you outside work Torres!" She said as she forces a smile on her face
"Thanks. I am hope you don't mind me gatecrashing...I am..."
Arizona interrupted "fact is she didn't have a choice, I found her in her apartment in her PJ's at 6.30 eating from a tub of ice cream!" She said with a chuckle "think of it as an intervention"
"Hey!" Callie complained with a smile "i told you...it was frozen yoghurt...in the US that's considered healthy!"
Sam observed the interaction between the blonde and brunette with interest and didn't miss the fact that Arizona was wearing make up. She couldn't remember the last time she had seen her friend wear anything more than lipgloss! Oh my god...Sam thought to herself...Ari likes her! Shit. Robbins has a crush on Torres.
Sam got her guests a drink and introduced the star striker to her wife Jo who blushed when Callie had given her a little wave and said 'hey" in her American accent.
Arizona then took Calli through to the living room and introduced Callie to their other friends and Becky who she already knew.
Callie took a seat on the sofa and watched as Arizona took a seat on a chair opposite her.
Thankfully Jess was on the bench and so Callie didn't have to sit and look at the woman who had kissed her 48 hours ago. Occasionally the camera would flash to the bench and Jess would appear on the screen wrapped up in a big coat, hat and gloves. Whenever she appeared on the screen Callie would have to look away as she felt bad T how she had walked away. How she hadn't responded to one of her messages because she didn't know what to say. On one occasion she looked up and saw that Arizona was watching her.
The room was split between some wanting Arsenal to win, and others up for Chelsea, which led to entertaining viewing. Every now and then Arizona would look over in Callie's direction and make sure she was OK.
Arsenal's star striker Valeria Medamur scored and absolutely wonder goal, putting them in front just before half time. Callie was enjoying watching the football and had to admit that the quality on display was top notch.
Sam looked over at Callie at half time and asked what she had thought of the game so far "Well, I've been really impressed with the quality of the play, I played against a lot of these players at the last World Cup. I mean I think every Chelsea player plays for their National team, right?" She asked
"Yeah they are probably the team that have spent the most in building their team" Becky responded.
"And that's with the new signing still on the bench" one of the other friends added.
Callie watched as Arizona and Sam exchanged a glance before Arizona turned as caught the American watching her.
Arsenal continued to hold the slender 1-0 lead and after 70 minutes had passed. The Chelsea bench decided to make a substitute.
"And now the moment the Chelsea fans have been waiting for..." the TV commentator announced "...it looks like their record breaking summer signing Alexandra Andersson is about to join the action in her first game since signing from Barcelona."
Can I get anyone a top up?" Sam asked as she stood up to leave the room
"I'll umm help" Arizona said as she headed out to the kitchen to help her friend.
A few minutes later and Callie headed into the kitchen to grab some more water and hesitated at the door as she saw the two physio's talking intensely, Sam's hand resting on Arizona's lower back.
"Are you sure you are OK?" Callie heard Sam ask her friend.
"I'm fine Sam...honestly, thanks for inviting me, I mean I'm sorry I turned up with Torres out the blue, but I figured it would be good for her..."
"And you?" Sam asked her friend with a smile
"What do you mean?" Arizona said raising her eyebrows at her friends suggestion
"You know what I mean." Sam responded.
"I'm fine Sam. Honestly. I mean it's been what over a year since we've even seen each other!" Arizona responded.
"Yeah and here she is. She umm, she looks good, you know...better. Are you..."
Their conversation was interrupted by cheers from the living room as someone scored, as they looked in the direction of the cry, they saw Callie standing in the hallway.
"I umm sorry.." she started babbling realising she had been caught listening in on their conversation "I errr was after a top up" as she held up her glass.
"Of course" Sam said with a smile as she took Callie's glass and went to the fridge for another bottle of water.
As Arizona looked at the American she wondered how much she had heard whilst standing there.
Turns out Chelsea had equalised following a fantastic fee kick from the new signing. The game was exciting with both teams pushing for the winning goal that would take them through to the next round when the commentator announced Arsenal were bringing on their World Cup winning American summer signing Jess Woods.
Arizona watched Callie from afar as she tried to pretend to be enjoying the game as much as everyone else, but something was bothering the brunette.
"Oh come on that was a clear dive!" Becky yelled as Chelsea were awarded a penalty following an alleged foul by Woods on the substitute Andersson.
"Woods didn't even touch her!" Sam yelled in defence of the American. "Once a cheat...always a cheat!" Sam had added as she looked over at Arizona who gave her friend a stern look back.
Callie watched the TV as they showed Jess arguing with the ref over the penalty decision, showed her getting a yellow card, her walking away in disgust and of Andersson scoring her second of the game from the spot and ultimately winning the game.
"God I HATE Chelsea" Becky announced "I mean don't get me wrong, I hate Arsenal as well, but at least their players seem to have some morals."
Arizona watched the TV as the ref blew the final whistle and the Chelsea players ran to hug the scorer of their two goals...Alex Andersson, record signing and Arizona's ex wife.
Would love to know what you think so far? I think Callie needs to speak to Jess and be honest with herself.
