Yay! An actual story update for you.

It's the fall out from the argument. Will Callie leave London and go back to Miami? Hmmm probably not, otherwise this would be a short story ;)

Arizona climbed into bed and despite being tired she just couldn't drop off as she replayed her argument with Callie.

Talking about her past always stirred up emotions within the blonde, who on the whole had moved on and she was happy in the new career she had formed. She could probably count on two hands the number of people who knew about her past, and she hadn't intended on adding Callie to the list, but she couldn't stand there a minute longer listening to her self pity.

She had felt blindsided and hurt that Callie had decided to leave and go back to the States, but she regretted saying the bit about choosing the easy option, that had been wrong.

For the first tome since Alex, Arizona had started to develop feelings for someone, and whilst her job preventing anything romantic happening, Arizona liked the brunette.

Yet she had gone too far and pushed Callie who was obviously still getting her head around her sexuality.

Reaching for her phone she tapped out a text

I shouldn't have said that about choosing the easy life. You were right...I don't know you, but I want to. I hope you don't go Calliope. A x

The blonde slept badly, waking up hourly reaching for her phone only to be left disappointed when she saw that Callie hadn't responded to her message. For all Arizona knew the brunette could have been on her way to the airport and that those words were the last they would ever exchange. That thought made Arizona feel incredibly sad.

—-

Arizona was in the office with Sam and Becky as they discussed the players they had to treat and how to monitor them back from their injuries. As the three physios went down the list, Arizona hesitated before mentioning the next name on the list

"Torres" Arizona said as she kept her eyes on the laptop screen sensing that Sam was staring at her at the mention of the Latina's name "so I'm umm unsure what's going on there, I think she may be leaving us early"

"What?" Becky and Sam both said in unison

"Yeah she umm mentioned yesterday about getting a flight home so I'm not sure if we'll see her today."

"Err I already have!" Becky said much to Arizona's surprise

"Really?" Arizona asked happy to hear that the American was at the training ground.

"Yeah I saw her in the car park about an hour ago." Becky added

Arizona's mind was racing. Had Callie changed her mind and was staying, or maybe she was just here to say goodbye to the team and collect her things from locker. The blonde was still deep in thought when there was a knock on the open door and the three physios turned to see Callie standing there.

Arizona felt a wave of nausea hit her - was this it, was this goodbye? the last time she would see the brunette?

"Ummm sorry to interrupt..."She said not looking in Arizona's direction at all "but I wondered if I could speak to Sam?"

"Sure!" Sam replied as she gestured Callie to come in.

"In private" Callie said surprising everyone in the room whilst still avoiding Arizona's gaze.

Sam shot her friend a quick puzzled look, Arizona did a quick shrug of her shoulders and a nod of her head to indicate it was fine with her.

"OK" Sam said getting to her feet "I was actually just about to go grab a coffee, do you want to walk with me?" As she left the room with American following.

Arizona and Becky finished the rest of the team players and then Arizona found herself alone, thinking back to the American who clearly hated her so much that she couldn't even look at her. Fuck! She had gone too far.

"You told her didn't you?" Sam asked as she walked into the medical store cupboard where Arizona was doing her weekly stock check.

Hearing her friends voice the blonde popped her head around the shelf "you made me lose count! What did you say?" She said slightly annoyed

"Torres" Sam expanded "you told about your past didn't you?"

"Yeah, I didn't intend to, but it kinda came out. Why? Did she say something?" Arizona asked

"Well she apologised for missing the session

yesterday, so that's a first!" Sam replied

"What else did she say? Is she staying!" Arizona asked noticing the slight desperation in her tone and she knew Sam would spot it too.

"Yeah I think so, she basically apologised and said that she had been going through some personal things lately, but that she was committed to getting into the team and could she do some extra strengthening sessions after practice today."

"Really?" Arizona replied a little surprised at the turnaround in Callie's thinking.

"That doesn't sound like someone who was thinking of leaving does it?" Sam asked

"No..." Arizona said unable to stop a smile forming on her face "no it doesn't"

"You ummm wouldn't happen to be a part of these personal problems now would you Ari?" Sam asked her friend raising her eyebrows.

Arizona paused unsure how to answer her friends question "not really, maybe, I don't know, but nothing has happened if that's what you are getting at?" The blonde replied

"Okay, just checking!" Sam replied with a knowing smile "so what's going on then? Why did you think she was leaving?"

"Because she was!" Arizona replied "she literally had her passport out and was picking her flights back to Miami!"

"But why?" Sam asked confused "she's probably going to play on Sunday against the Hammers. Her first game, why leave now?"

Arizona took a deep sigh "did you see any of the Netherlands v USA game the other day?" Arizona asked

"Oh my god, did I? Wow, did you see that third goal from Powell? It was incredible, she literally picked the ball up on the edge of her own box and must have run past at least seven tackles before slamming the ball in the back of the next" Sam answered enthusiastically "she is super quick, I mean she made mincemeat out of those Dutch players, who are world class...and she's what? 20?" Sam asked

"Eighteen" Arizona said with a serious tone and waited for the penny to drop.

"Shiiit...Okay... NOW I get it. Someone is feeling a little insecure, I mean, I think I would if I was her!" Sam said harshly "that Powell is a serious talent."

"Yes and so is Torres!" Arizona said defending the brunette "she has years and years of experience, and OK she might not be able to run as fast as Powell, but she still has so much to give."

"And I'm guessing you told her that in your ummm unique way?" Sam asked with a small smile

"Ha if by that you mean did I give her the speech about at least she had a choice...I did, but I probably went a little overboard." Arizona admitted

"Well it worked!" Sam said

"I guess. Did she umm say anything else?" Arizona asked

"What, other than specifically asking asking for me or Becky to take her sessions?" Sam said waiting to see how Arizona responded

"Wow OK"'Arizona replied feeling a little disappointed "what did you say?"

"I said It was probably fine, but that I'd have to check with you."

"Right..." Arizona responded deep in thought

Sam stood waiting for a response and saw that Arizona was distracted "Sooooo" she said "are you OK with that?"

"Umm yeah sure..." Arizona replied trying to regain her professional composure "I mean you guys know what you are doing, what to look out for."

"Sure. I'll let Becks know." Sam replied as she studied her friends face "Ari, are you OK?"

Arizona looked at Sam and smiled "I'm good Sam. All good" she replied not fully believing herself.

"OK, because you know I'm here you wanna talk. Lou's on nights this week, so if you wanna grab a drink one night, just let me know."

Arizona smiled "Thanks mate. I appreciate the offer. To be honest I've had a lot on my mind this past couple of weeks."

"And would one of those things happen to be Callie Torres shaped?" Sam asked with a cheeky look in her eyes.

Arizona sighed "guilty as charged. I nearly kissed her the other night, she I didn't, but I REALLY wanted to Sam" the blonde confessed

"Well she is hot so I don't blame you Ari" Sam responded

"I know but it's freaking me out a bit, she's umm the first person I've been attracted to since Alex..." Arizona admitted

"Well that's great!" Sam said giving her friend a reassuring smile

"Yeah, but I told her we can't do anything because of my job. I can't risk it Sam. I think that's why I went overboard yesterday. I was seriously considering risking my job for her and then when I saw she was running back to the States, I lost it a bit." Arizona paused "I was pretty horrid in fact, but I think it's because I felt a bit foolish."

"I get that. I mean it's a big think starting something new." Sam said reassuringly

"Yeah well I don't have to worry about that anymore do I? I mean she can't even look at me at the moment." Arizona said sadly

"Ahhh she'll come around Ari, she probably feels a bit embarrassed after you told her about your former career."

"Hmm maybe" Arizona said thoughtfully "or she could just hate me!"

"Not possible Robbins. I've seen you get yourself out of enough pickles over the years with a simple flash of those dimples...women find them irresistible."

"Ha yeah right...that's me...irresistible!" Arizona chuckled to her friend, but deep down she hoped she was right. Callie still hadn't responded to her text from the previous night and the request for Sam and Becky to take her sessions stung a little bit, but she was probably trying to get back at Arizona after her comments about choosing an easy life.

Ultimately Arizona was the head physio and so Callie would have to speak to her at some point, the blonde just hoped it was sooner rather than later.

Sunday - Match day

Callie had make it onto the squad list but started the game on the subs bench.

She still hadn't spoken to Arizona or responded to her text, but Arizona was pleased that Callie was still here in London.

Arizona watched the brunette as the manager and assistant coaches put the team through the warm up exercises. Callie had her hair up in a high ponytail and was wearing her well documented lucky pink hair band to keep her hair in place.

The game was tight and was still 0-0 at half time, and Callie was itching to get on the pitch. It was also freezing cold sitting on the bench and Callie couldn't remember ever feeling this cold. They were made to run up and down the sidelines every 10 mins in order to make sure their muscles didn't tighten up.

West Ham looked happy to settle for a draw and a point, but after a couple of defeats Spurs really need to win to get all three points and move up the table.

Callie was eventually subbed on at the 70th minute giving her 20 minutes of football for the first time in five months. Callie felt ready, but when the ball was thread through to her, her legs felt like lead, she felt so slow and the ball was quickly taken off her by a defender.

"Fuck!" Callie yelled annoyed at herself as she turned and chased after the ball.

Five minutes later and Callie had the ball and was running purposefully towards the goal. She skipped one tackle this time and managed to get a shot away, but the keeper tipped it over the bar.

"She looks good" Sam said to Arizona from their position on the touch line.

"Yeah I just hope she doesn't go too hard too soon." Arizona said with concern as she watched the American throw her arms up in frustration as her shot was saved.

The clock was ticking and Callie was chasing the ball hard, she managed to nip it back of one of the players and then turned and played a one two with one of her team mates. As she got the ball back, she steamed into the box and as she pulled her foot back to strike the ball, she was hacked down by a defender.

Callie crashed to the ground in a heap and her yelp of pain could be heard all around the ground, bringing a chill to Arizona as she watched Callie stick her arm in the arm, waving she needed help.

Sam and Arizona were already half way on the pitch with their kit bags as they sprinted over to where the American was lying, holding the back of her calf muscle. A couple of concerned players stood over Callie whilst others complained to the referee about the tackle, arguing that the player should be sent off and they be awarded a free kick.

When Arizona reached Callie she couldn't hid the concern from her face as the blood was visible through her sock. The opposition player's studs had pierced her skin.

"FUCK!" Callie yelled as Sam rolled down her sock.

"This looks nasty" Sam said to Arizona.

"I'm fine! Callie said firmly "can you just clean it up and use the numbing spray. I'm not coming off for this!" She said looking directly at Sam and avoiding eye contact with Arizona

Arizona wiped the blood away to see how deep the cut was, relieved that it didn't look as bad as she had initially thought. Sam looked over at Arizona for a verdict.

"OK Torres, we can clean this up, but it's going to be sore tomorrow that's for sure." The blonde informed her as she worked quickly, grabbing the numbing spray from her medical bag and spraying it on Callie leg.

"Everything OK? The ref asked leaning over the physios and injured player.

"Yeap all good, nearly done." Sam replied as she fitted a small bandage over the wound as she pulled up Callie's sock.

"You OK?" Arizona asked catching Callie's gaze for the first time in days.

"I'm good, I'm good" Callie said as she started to get up, Arizona put her hand out to help the brunette up. Callie paused before finally placing her hand in the blondes and accepting the help up.

"Thanks" Callie said as she bent down and adjusted her sock and shin pad.

The referee had awarded a free kick for the foul just outside the penalty box. They had practised set pieces on Friday and as Callie's team mate placed the ball, the players got into their positions. Callie's calf muscle was throbbing, but she took a deep breath and waited for the cross. Callie felt a elbow in her back as the defender who had fouled her made her know she was behind her.

"Watch it" Callie yelled as she turned and have the defender a shove back.

"Welcome to England!" The player laughed as they waited for the ref to blow the whistle.

When the cross came in the defender jumped to clear the ball, but Callie jumped higher and got her head on the ball. She flicked her head directing the ball pass the glove of the diving keeper and into the top corner of the goal.

Arizona and Sam jumped up out of their seats as they watched Callie out jump the defender and steer the ball into the back of the net.

"Get it there!" Sam said sticking her hand out for a high five from Arizona who turned to her with a huge smile on her face.

"I knew she could do it!" Arizona smiled as she high fived Sam. "I knew it" Arizona repeated as she watched Callie be mobbed by her team mates as they celebrated the goal. Arizona checked her watch, they had five minutes plus injury time to hang on for a much needed victory.

Spurs held out for the win and the bus back to the training ground was full of cheers and excitement. Arizona walked down the aisle of the coach to check up on Callie who was sat with one of the other players.

"Hey Lisa" Arizona said to the player next to Callie "could I have a quick word with Callie?"

The brunette looked up at Arizona who was standing smiling at Lisa.

"Sure Dr Robbins" Lisa said as she got out of her seat and headed to join a couple of the other players.

"May I?" Arizona asked as she gestured to the now empty seat

Callie shrugged her shoulders before turning to look out of the window. She felt her heart rate increase slightly as she smelt Arizona's familiar scent from her shampoo, Rosemary and Mint, only this time it was mixed with the strong smell of the numbing spray she had used on the various injuries.

"How's the calf feeling?" Arizona asked as she tried to get Callie to turn away from the window.

"It's fine. I've had worse!" Callie responded. She felt Arizona's shoulder rise as the blonde took a deep breath before quietening her voice

"Callie...I'm sorry what I said the other night...about taking the easy option...I shouldn't have said that. Will you forgive me?" Arizona asked hopefully.

Callie finally turned her gaze from the window and felt a small flutter of butterflies in her stomach as she took in those blue eyes.

She could see the blonde was being genuine and so Callie nodded slowly

"OK." She said softly.

Arizona's face broke into a smile "do you think that we could maybe start again?" She asked hopefully

"I'd like that" Callie admitted as she held the blondes gaze. The butterflies intensified as she felt Arizona's little finger brush the back of Callie's hand.

"I'm really glad you stayed." She whispered quietly so no one could hear as she intertwined her little finger with Callie's causing the brunette to look down at their hands before returning to those eyes.

What did this mean? Had Arizona changed her mind about something happening between them? Callie didn't know, but she hoped would

find out soon.

"Me too. Me too" she replied softly.

We're getting closer. Stick with it.

As ever, stay safe.
