Chapter Seventeen: Medicines Cure Diseases, but Only Doctors Can Cure Patients
~Carl Jung
Elwin is so underrated :(.
Reviews:
Guest: yay! Another Tamie shipper!
writingficsandbreakinghearts: (1) I know, right?! I guess it's because Jamie's a confusing person... And, maybe... Thanks! (2) Yeah, I agree about Zoe, too. She—like Jamie—is a very confusing person. Also, I agree; with what you said. About Keefe and Jamie, I mean.
Guest: aww, thank you! That really means a lot :)
Lunatix3: yeah, Jamie's one of my few OCs I actually like. And I think Jafitz has the most amount of shippers, second to maybe... Tamie? I don't know. No, I'm not on Wattpad (although I might create an account eventually; if I do, I'll let you know), and thanks!
Recap: so, I grabbed my stuff from the Forbidden Cities, Sophie left her parents... and that's basically it.

ONTO THE NEXT CHAPTER!
"Who's Elwin?" Sophie asked as Fitz led them down another long, glittering hallway.
"A physician,"
It took Jamie a second to realize that she was the one who said it.
Fitz frowned at her. "How did you—?" he started, but seemed to think better off it. He acted like he was walking on eggshells around her, as if she had just yelled at him or something-
Oh, wait. She had.
Whoops.
"Uh, yeah, like Jamie said, he's a physician."
Sophie froze.
"What's wrong?" Fitz asked.
Jamie remembered why as Sophie said, "I hate doctors."
"You'll be fine, I promise." Fitz grabbed Sophie's hand and pulled her forward. Jamie couldn't help but laugh as Sophie resisted-except, then she noticed that she was trembling. She stopped laughing.
But before she could say anything, she heard, "What are you doing?"
She startled at the sound of Princess Pretty-Pants' voice. She was behind them, but it was almost like she was invisible, but that was impossible-
Actually, no. It wasn't. Because she was dealing with elves. Right.
"Nothing," was Fitz's short reply.
"Where were you?" Biana asked suspiciously. "I asked Dad, but he wouldn't tell me."
"That's because it's none of your business."
"Will you tell me later?"
"Drop it, okay? I'm a little busy right now."
Well, that was rude. Jamie was about to say something, but-
"I can see that," Biana glared at Sophie's hands-the hands that Fitz was holding.
Jamie remembered what she had told Sophie the previous day: "When will you have another opportunity to hold a cute boy's hand?"
Apparently, she had a lot of opportunities-and she took them.
As Sophie tried to jerk free, Jamie snickered behind her hand. Fitz didn't seem to understand why Sophie was trying to do that, though, because he visibly tightened his grip, saying, "Don't even think about think about it. I'm taking you to Elwin, and you're going to see it's no big deal."
Sophie let him pull her to the arched, golden door at the end of the hallway.
Fitz stood behind Sophie, blocking any possible escape. He glanced at Jamie, as if wondering if she also had iatrophobia. Jamie just shrugged. Fitz just shook his head to himself before saying, "I'll take your stuff. Why don't you hang onto Ella? Maybe she'll help."
"Thanks," Sophie mumbled.
Jamie didn't say anything as she handed over the little luggage she possessed. She was still a little angry at him, but she could feel it dissolving into quietness. She wasn't very good at staying angry. She had a raging temper, but didn't hold grudges very well. She didn't know if it was a good thing, and she didn't really care.
As Sophie wasn't doing it, Jamie was going the door herself, but Fitz said something that made her pause:
"I tell you what. If anything bad happens in there, I'll let you punch me in the stomach as hard as you can. Sound fair?"
Jamie couldn't help but smirk.
Yes, that sounded very fair.
The glass walls of the conservatory bathed everything in soft moonlight, and enormous plants grew in glowing pots (yes, glowing pots. If only humans could be so cool...) around the room. Some of the gigantic flowers looked like they were about to suddenly become sentient and eat her, adding onto the uniqueness (that word didn't do justice, but Jamie was too lazy to look for another one) of the room. She sat on a low, cushioned cot. It was comfortable, but Sophie looked tense, as if she knew that someone in that room was plotting her murder.
"This will go a lot faster if you hold still," Elwin said as he adjusted one of Sophie's pillows.
Elwin was an elf with wild dark hair and huge, iridescent spectacles, and held an uncanny resemblance to a mad scientist.
Elwin lifted Sophie's right arm, provoking a sharp, "What are you doing?" from the blonde girl.
Elwin didn't answer, but snapped his fingers. A ball of green light formed around her elbow.
"See?" he said. "Painless."
"How did you do that?" Sophie asked.
"I'm a Flasher," Elwin explained. "I can manipulate light the way I want it-though I'm not as skilled as Orem Vacker. You'll see his crazy light show on the next total eclipse. It's one of our biggest celebrations."
Jamie had to suppress a groan. More Vackers? It wasn't that she had a problem with Vackers, but could they stop being so crazy-talented for, like, two seconds?
"Whoa, that's some serious damage." Elwin said before quickly adding, "It's no permanent, and it's not your fault. Toxic food, toxic water, toxic air. What chance did your poor innocent cells have?"
The only thing that kept Jamie from saying "Well, some of us like that toxic food," was the fact that elven food tasted the same, but better.
"You can see my cells?" Sophie asked.
"Of course." Elwin replied. "Did you think I was wearing these glasses because they make me look dashing?"
Jamie laughed behind her hand.
Sophie smiled. "What do they do?"
"Anything, depending on what color of light I use."
Elwin continued flashing different colored lights around Sophie before turning to Jamie. He nodded at her, saying, "I'm guessing you know what gonna happen?"
Jamie nodded.
And so Elwin did the same thing, starting with a green light at Jamie's elbow. And just like how he did with Sophie, he paused.
"Well," he started. "That's weird."
Okay, so let's just pretend that I updated yesterday...
