Chapter Nineteen: Inside My Head, Too Many Questions, Just Got Me Thinking, What's My Question

~Question, by Stray Kids

Reviews:

writingficsandbreakinghearts: yeah, Jafitz is adorable. Just to clarify—you know when you do something that seems great at the time but you over-analyze it so much it seems like it's the most scandalous thing to ever happen? Well—actually, you'll see how that plays out in the chapter.

Fitzphieistrash: (1) yeah, Jamie knows about Covid; she was born in 2009. (2) Jinh, huh? I thought you were going to say Jafitz lol

QuinnsoSingleBae: (1) Yay! A Jinh shipper! Honestly, Linh's amazing... (2) Well, it's kind of common courtesy, but... you're welcome :) To be honest, though, I don't really get how that explains Jamie; can you explain? Seriously, though; I love hearing about what people think about my characters.

Lilac: ahh, Jafitz... It's adorable. Thanks for reviewing!

nightfall'slegacy: great! Team Foster-Keefe for life! Thanks for reviewing!

VolkswagenPanda: (1) thanks! (2) Yeah, that kind of defeats the purpose of writing a fanfiction... Unless there are ghosts or something... (3) I know, right!? I mean... I'm totally impartial to the ships... Totally... (4) I'll add Keefe into the plot soon—much sooner than Sophie meets him. Also, it's just a question; there's no way that can be jerky :) Thank you for reviewing!

Sofie Foster: yeah, I get what you mean about Biana... And I'll add your vote! Thanks for reviewing!

FosterJacksonPotter: tell me about it. *Rolls eyes at myself* In my defense, I was writing this really late into the night, and... I'm just a bad writer in general... *chuckles nervously* Anyway, thanks for reviewing!

Recap: okay, so, my cells are healthier than Sophie's somehow... And Fitz and I are... friends? What?

ONTO THE NEXT CHAPTER!

The pencil in Jamie's hand scratched across an empty page in her notebook, forming the arched eyebrow of Quinlin. "His" expression was skeptical, like he was going to ask a question.

A question.

Jamie had so many questions. How did she get her? It was... It was called isekai, right? Being sucked into a fictional world was called isekai. But how did it work? In all the isekai fanfictions Jamie'd read, there was no real reason as to why they got isekai-ed (yes, she was creating words on the spot here). She never wondered why—probably because it never was important. It would always be in the first chapter, they'd get into a story of sorts, and that was that. It never mattered—at least, not until she got isekai-ed herself.

Fate had a funny way of playing out.

After she finished sketching Quinlin, she moved onto Lady Willa, with her mask of cheer.

A mask.

How long would she have to lie about herself? Sure, it wasn't that bad, but sooner or later, she'd mess up. She wasn't being cynical; that was just a fact. But she couldn't just... say she was from another world. That was, like, the number one rule of being isekai-ed; never, ever, reveal that you're not actually from this world. Ever.

But... why? What was so bad about being honest—

And then she realized that they'd probably lock her up in a mental asylum if she started prattling about alternate realities and whatnot. And that wouldn't be good; she wasn't going to botch the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of getting into her favorite book by being declared insane.

After Lady Willa, Jamie began to sketch the stiff, oily Cassius. Sorry, Lord Cassius. She couldn't forget the "Lord."

Speaking of lords... Was Jamie really expected to live in a world that was overflowing with snobbish nobility?

Okay, fine, that was a little prejudiced. But even if not all nobles were snobbish, they still wouldn't take kindly to Jamie being... well, Jamie.

Look, it wasn't like she tried to say things that got her into trouble. She just didn't think things through. When she actually made an effort to do so, things were great!

Unfortunately, making an effort took too much effort.

(Sweet KotLC, she felt so eloquent.)

And in a sharp contrast to Lord Cassius was Elwin. Easygoing, playful Elwin. Elwin, who said Jamie's cells were weird.

How could her cells be healthier than Sophie's? It wasn't that she was complaining, but it didn't make sense. Then again, she was in a fictitious world. Nothing really made sense anymore.

Oh, and she couldn't forget about Sir Tiergan. Vacker-hating Sir Tiergan.

The Vackers were rich. And important. And powerful. And when you combine those three things into a family, you get a soup of scandals. But since the Vackers were still so obviously respected, whatever Vacker scandals there were were probably well hidden from the public.

Well, most of the public.

Obviously, Tiergan knew about one of those scandals. But what exactly was said scandal? And what could Jamie do if she knew, anyway? Blackmail the Vackers?

She snorted softly to herself. Sure. That was logical. She could just blackmail one of the most important families in the Lost Cities. There were no problems with that at all.

No, she was just curious. What could the Vackers have done that was so bad, they wanted to keep it from the public?

Then again, it could've just been that she was ignorant. She had just moved to Lost Cities that day, after all.

Still, that didn't change the fact she was insanely curious. She had to know more about the Vackers.

The Vackers...

Jamie flicked the pages back before stopping on the drawing of Fitz. Or, at least, the new drawing of Fitz.

In the first one she made, Fitz looked stuck-up and arrogant. Which he was, of course, but it was extremely dramatized; his nose was held high in the air, and his eyebrows were raised in silent judgment. In the second picture, he was grinning. A cocky grin, but a grin nevertheless.

Jamie scowled. Also, they were now friends? How in all the nine worlds did that happen? And what was she thinking when she "punched" him?

Actually...that was the problem; she wasn't thinking.

She groaned to herself. She really needed to start thinking more.

Unfortunately, that was easier thought than done.

... Yep, she still wasn't thinking.
