While Logan was away on a business trip, I decided to join a pregnancy/birthing class now that I'm almost seven months along. When I told mom I joined a class, she laughed in my face and told me that is such a Californian thing to do.
"No it's not. I'm not planning on getting an epidural, so I think learning some techniques to help ease the contractions would be nice to know."
"Forget about techniques. Nothing will ease the contractions besides the epidural itself, trust me."
"I still think the classes will be helpful."
"Rory, I can give you birthing advice for free. Just remember to breathe. Your body will do the rest." Mom told me.
"I think I can remember to breathe. I've only been doing it for twenty-two years of my life."
"Believe me when I say, contractions make remembering to breathe difficult."
"The classes might end up being a waste, who knows, but I've become friends with other first time moms in it."
"That's great Rory. I'm glad you're finally meeting people. When is Logan supposed to get back?"
"Tomorrow. And speaking of him, he called me the other day. You would never guess who surprised him in New York. His parents."
"His parents? What happened? Were they attempting to kidnap him, and hide him away on the Huntzbergers' compounds?"
"His sister Honor has been trying to mediate, and I guess it worked... At least for his parents, because they came to apologize."
"The Huntzbergers? Apologize?" Mom asked in disbelief. "Really?"
"Yeah, I couldn't believe it either."
"And? Did they call it truths?"
"I wouldn't call it that... I guess Logan is willing to give them another chance. One last chance."
"How do you feel about that?"
"I don't know... They are his parents at the end of the day."
"Speaking of parents... Not much longer until you guys are parents. Picked a name out yet?"
"We have one we both like, but we're going to wait until he's here to commit. I mean, naming him is going to be one of the most important things we decide. He's going to have it for the rest of his life, and be known as it forever."
"So can I hear the name?"
"No, because if I tell you then you'll probably tell Sookie who will tell Jackson, and somehow Babette will find out and tell Miss Patty who will tell Taylor who will announce it at the next town meeting."
"I can't believe you don't trust me, Rory. I did keep your pregnancy a secret after all."
"You told Sookie and Michel."
"But they didn't tell anyone else."
"Fine, maybe I don't want to tell you in case you get all judgmental over it."
"I mean as long as you're not naming him Rocco or Butch or Jagger we'll be okay."
"Sorry mom, you'll have to wait like everyone else. I have to go. I'm meeting up with a couple of moms I met in the class."
I drove to a restaurant in downtown Palo Alto to meet two of the moms I've become friends with, Amanda and Bethany. They were already there when I arrived sitting at a table, and I joined them. We said our hellos, and I took a look at the menu. A waiter came by shortly later to take our orders.
"So, are you planning on having a baby shower?" Amanda asked me.
"Oh, I don't think so... At least not before he's born." I said.
"Oh, Rory, you have to! It's your first baby." She said. "You'll be missing out."
"I don't really have anyone to invite besides you two. My friends and family are in Connecticut, so I'm not sure if they would be able to make it out. Like I said, I'll probably have one after he's born when I'm able to visit home."
"It's not the same." Bethany said.
I shrugged. "This is what happens when you move across country."
Logan arrived back from spending a week in New York just before noon the next day. I gave him a warm welcome, but Logan could see past my fake smile and excitement. He asked me how I was feeling, which has mostly been uncomfortable ever since I reached month six. But today I felt different.
I sat down on the couch. "I don't know. I just have a feeling something might be wrong."
"What do you mean?" Logan asked.
"I don't know. Like I said, it's just a feeling. I was spotting earlier... I called my doctor, and she said spotting is normal. To come in if it turns into more than spotting. So I could just be feeling how I do because of that. The books don't tell you spotting is normal, only that bleeding is bad."
Logan sat down beside me on the couch. He placed his hand on top of my pregnant belly and rubbed it. "Has he been active today?"
"Less than usual... Look, it's just a feeling. It's most likely nothing, and I don't want to stress over nothing. I don't want you stressing over nothing either... I shouldn't have said anything."
"No, I'm glad you did."
"Distract me... Tell me how New York was."
"Which part do you want to hear? The business side or the family?"
"Just tell me everything. Baby and I are all ears."
Logan took a deep breath. "Well, it's a long story, so get comfortable."
Helllloooo my wonderful, patient readers. I am so sorry it took me this long to get a chapter out. I hope to not have you wait this long again (though I said that in the last chapter, and look what happened lol). So I'm going to be honest with yall, the last chapter, this chapter, and the next are basically filler chapters leading up to the birth. And because they're filler, they're, imo, not as great as they could be. I'm just super exited to get to the birth and Logan and Rory being parents that these couple of fillers chapters aren't really interests me too much. So sorry if you didn't enjoy this chapter and the next as much as you hoped, but I promise the ones after will be much better!
Again, thanks for reading, and being super patient! I really will try to get a new chapter posted by the end of the week :p
