Home Is Where The Armor Is
"Come on sir, what's home without a few guns and dead guys." Shock trooper of the Hellrazer unit
"What!? We're leaving again!? But we just got here!?"
Long after the meeting with ISA council, the call to war had been answered with much spirit. Whether it was in the Republic's name or not the city was abuzz with activity as the war effort began. Citizens began applying in droves and the ones already enlisted had more than just guard detail on their plates. Though to celebrate many of their newfound enlistments, bars and clubs were packed to the brim as the soon to be soldiers celebrated one last time. It was also here that we found some of the clones trying to mingle as well, though it was quite tough for a bunch of guys that looked the same.
Cody sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. Here he was, in a club by the name of Kat's Downtime, and while he had no idea who that was. He knew the loud music and drunken people were starting to annoy him. The only reason he was here was to drag the insubordinate troopers that snuck off the super carrier "Unrelenting Reach" and decided to have some unofficial leave. Most of the men were, as much as he hated to admit it, from his unit although there were stragglers from the 501st as they watched him give a stern verbal beating to a unfortunate clone. And who was this clone you might ask?
"Striker! You get your ass out of that club right now!" He yelled.
"But sir!" he whined
"That's an order trooper!" he said as he dismissed the sad face Striker gave him.
Striker sighed as he exited the club, shutting the door behind him. The artificial sun of the city was setting as the troopers gathered on the corner of the street. They were still fairly close to the Council Spire, but were somewhat in between the upper and 'recreational' districts. The clones Cody had rounded up gathered behind him as Striker stood by his side still a tad upset. Though he wasn't the only one in trouble as Hammer and Flash stood behind as well though in a slightly better mood. Hammer smiled a toothy grin as he rubbed his still growing goatee.
"ha! Cheer up strike. At least I got a number. Sangheili one at that."
Flash rolled his eyes as he rubbed his bald head, the large tattoo on the side of his head saying '212th on the rise' shined in the setting sun. He slugged Hammer in the shoulder though the heavy weapons expert didn't budge at all.
"Maybe the number was meant for me? Ever think of that? I was talking to her for quite a bit till you showed up?"
The toothy grin never fading he leaned close to Flash as he rubbed it in.
"Ah what do you know, we all look the same. Maybe she got her eyes checked. Ya never know" he laughed
"alright quiet you two transports are almost here and we need to be out of here yesterday. We're heading home" Cody said.
Some of the clones gave Cody funny looks as they could see a large vehicle coming down the street. Other vehicles parted and made way for it as it slowly approached the Club Corner. To say it was basically a rolling APC was an understatement as the armored behemoth known as the 'elephant' rolled down the street on its treads. Alliance signals and markings covered the massive sides of the vehicle as it rolled unperturbed towards them.
"Home? You mean Relkor sir? Hate to be the bearer of bad news sir that aint our home." A clone called out
"I'm with him sir. Base? Sure. Home? That's a bit much" Flash agreed.
Voices of displeasure and disagreement came from the clones as the transport came to a halt in front of them. A man wearing a simple officer uniform walked off the ramp like exit before approaching the group of clones. Over the railing they could even notice the spying eyes of a jackal as well as a few grunts as they watched the clones with fascination.
"You Commander Cody?" the man asked. He was simple and to the point. Cody like that.
"Yea that's me, and these are my brothers and or troublemakers." Cody joked. The others behind him rolled their eyes or acted as if they were talking to one another on something important.
The officer glanced behind him before sighing.
"Yea figured as much. Got a call earlier about a bunch of 'look a likes' hanging outside Kat's. Figured it was you clones. So much for some excitement. Anyways was told you all needed a lift to the nearest deployment pad?"
Cody nodded as he motioned for his rowdy brothers to be loaded into the Elephant. His wrist communicator glowed as it beckoned for him to answer.
"Yea. we need to be star side ASAP. Think you can do that for us?"
The officer turned as he noticed one of the clones, Striker, chasing a Unngoy up the elephant as it cradled his helmet. Rolling his eyes he turned back to Cody.
"Yea I can getcha there in no time. Hop in."
"Much obliged" Cody said as he turned his attention to his still ringing wrist communicator. The deep voice was too well-known as Cody walked up the ramp. Walking by his, now tame, brothers he leaned over the railing as he watched the buildings pass by. He had to admit the elephant could move down the highway if it wanted too.
"Cody, might I ask where you are?"
Cars continued to part way for the Elephant as it trudged down the busy highway. The view from street level was just as good as from the sky as they passed the shopping centers and homes. Fox mentioned to him about getting a place here but that seemed ridiculous.
"En route to the nearest deployment pad sir. Local authorities are giving us lowly clones a ride."
"very well. We await your arrival much to the amusement of your brother Rex. He's been making many remarks of you in your absence."
Cody raised an eyebrow as Striker leaned over the railing next to him. Flash and Hammer were beside him as well having a conversation of which he couldn't hear.
"Oh yea well you tell Rex he can kiss my-"
Therom chuckled as he cut the line on Cody. He stood on the bridge of the "Unrelenting Reach" as he waited for an old friend to arrive. Hands at his side he stared out the viewport into space as the crewmen performed the many tasks to prepare them for departure. Ships still flew to and fro out in space though a small selection of those ships flew to the rear hovering by the super-carrier's side. Among these were triangular ships of the Republic. Still loaded to the brim with most of the remaining legions of their once grand army, only a handful of clones had moved over to the "Reach" with their commanders while the rest remained aboard their Venators and Acclamators. The Jedi were all but gone off the 'Reach' as well barring Ahsoka who had been assigned to him.
Speaking of them he glanced over as Ahsoka and Rex idly chatted by the bridge doors. He was unsure why the council, why his parents, had decided to entrust him with not only Cody and his legion but as well as Rex, his legion, and Ahsoka. Lost in thought he recollected his career as he stared out into the stars. Therom' had enlisted and begun his path like any other minor elite fresh out of training. Eager for combat, Eager to prove himself, Therom' volunteered for any assignment no matter how pitiful or dangerous. Traveling the stars from operation to operation, his military status and renown became more well known upon each completion. During a covenant raid of an Alliance planet Therom' not only showed valor in battle but leadership and honor in face of overwhelming odds. Outmanned and outgunned Therom' led a remaining platoon, whose commanding officer had been killed, in defense of a scientific and forerunner in origin installation. His defense of this installation was not only superb as he was able to rout the enemy until reinforcements arrived but safeguarded the interior of an installation that housed data of great importance. Most of which is still classified.
Upon his return Therom' was immediately gifted the rank of major and was recommend to lead troops into battle. Though his record showed he was more than qualified, he ultimately rejected this position and was instead placed on spec ops assignments as an officer. Raids on the covenant and brutes, assassination of any insurrection leaders rising, and culling of any forerunner installations housing the Flood, Therom was imperative to the needs of the council. Though when one hails from the Vadam' line as well as being the child of humanities and the elite's leaders, one would expect this skill. Only commanding no more than ten operatives at a time the leadership that comes with these legions is new to him.
Though ever since the clone's arrival and them being stuck to him for the time being he can't say he was shocked Cody and his brothers were assigned to him. These men being under him also garnered him a promotion from spec ops officer to Zealot Field Master even though he turned down the armor that came with the rank. He liked his pitch black spec ops armor. It suited him. Again, here was in command of a large task force, with no name, solely comprised of clones, minus the jedi of course, and no current objective. He loved the clarity the military provided him with sometimes.
The bridge doors slid open as Rex and Ahoska watched an elite in clad white ultra-armor appear. He walked right past them and didn't even call for the attention of the crewman of the bridge as he approached Therom' from behind with heavy footfalls. Turning slowly, he ducked as a swing was aimed for where his head was. He smiled as he stared up at his assailant, Tova Navumee'. Tova was the Shipmaster Therom' was originally assigned too. Though with the commotion of the Republic's arrival and such he continued on his patrol of the borders where they and the Imperials had since clashed. It had been some time since they had contacted each other instead focused on their respective tasks.
"It is good to see you as well Shipmaster. I see your strength has not waned in your age unsure of your speed I must say though" Therom' said slyly.
"Quiet you whelp. If it wasn't for you being my personal training dummy how else would I keep my skills sharp." He raged.
Ahsoka and Rex came over and stared at the interaction between the two with mixed feelings before piping in.
"Uh I'm guessing you two know each other?" Ahsoka squeaked.
Quickly turning his eyes on her Tova eyed her up and down before doing the same to Rex. With a snarl he flicked his head toward Therom' before consulting with some of the bridge personnel. Rising back up, Therom' sighed as rubbed the back of his helm.
"Sadly yes." Therom' joked
"what do you mean?" Rex asked
"That is Tova Navumee', my former commander and handler of my special operations. Why he is here I somewhat have an idea of." He mused
As if listening in on his conversation he narrowed his eyes at the three before stomping over once again. He latched onto Therom's collar of his armor as he displayed him to the two as if he was scolding a child. His voice was laced with superficial anger as he growled out.
"It's because of this insolent excuse for an elite that I am now captain of this super-carrier and it's fleet and overseer of his legion that now resides in it. Including you all."
Ahsoka's eyes widened in remembrance as she raised a pointed finger at Tova'
"I remember you! You were the one that wiped the floor with those creeps that followed us here. What got you here?"
Tova proceeded to growl even louder all the while flailing a mute Therom' by the collar. Shoving him forward he pointed at him before stomping off to the bridge personnel once again who had watched his previous interaction with a little fear. The two glanced at Therom' as he rolled his shoulders all the while muttering a few curses at Tova.
Arms at her hips, Ahsoka raised in eyebrow while Rex stood silent but curious as well.
"Well?" she asked.
Ceasing his ramblings and curses on the old shipmaster he turned to them before sighing.
"It would seem in my report of the events leading up to the council meeting, I may have given too much praise to Shipmaster Navumee."
"How so?" Rex inquired.
"Tova is a renowned warrior and leader. Dating back to even the days of the covenant he was a force to be reckoned with. He led troops on the ground valiantly against humanity and tore their fleets asunder in space. It was during the covenants peak of power and right before the Great Schism was he promoted to Supreme commander of the fleet Heretic's Punishment. When the Schism occurred he tore through the brute fleets surrounding high charity and moved to secure the councilors saved by the Arbiter and Rtas' Vadum at the time. His power and status proved invaluable during the alliance with the humans to stop Truth. Providing them with ships and equipment, he played a vast and largely unheard role in the covenant downfall."
Ahoska and Rex were a little stunned to be in this war veteran's presence. They had heard by word of mouth that most of the covenant war vets were either dead or retired to other positions less intense. They stared as he mused over a data pad before consulting with another bridge officer.
"Wow. So what happened then? After the war?" Ashoka asked a bit more intrigued.
"After the war he stepped down. With the truth of what we did to humanity still fresh upon us, he vanished. Went on a journey of redemption and clarity he called it. Really I think he was just looking for answers like the rest of us. Anyways, he wasn't around for the initial formation of the Alliance, still searching for answers he stumbled across an old forerunner library. A data bank. It was the first time he ever contacted us since his disappearance. We arrived as soon as we could and we soon learned more of our past and our history because of him. I don't know if finding the relic sparked something in him or not but that same day he joined our alliance with humanity. And so per his request he was stripped of his supreme commander rank and demoted to Fleetmaster Zealot. He did this in hopes of seeing as little combat as possible and chose to be a exploration unit. A research team. Navumee's fleet searched the stars finding relic after relic. Some of Forerunner origin and some not. Planets for the colonization effort were found by him. Slip space lanes were found and forged by him. Many of the Alliance's success is bolstered by his actions. Were it not for his prowess and command experience your fleet and ours would have been torn asunder by those following you had he not been in command. Though it would seem my praise of him has got him right back to the position he has hidden from. Supreme commander."
"supreme commander? I'm not too familiar with the rank structure yet but doesn't that mean he commands a large fleet and has multiple ground force units report him by a field commander? Meaning you?" Rex asked.
Therom nodded as he turned to Tova conversing with his personal aide and daughter. Therom' looked on longingly before turning back to the others awaiting his next words. Ahsoka looked the most in tune with his emotions as she looked back at him with a somewhat sad expression.
"It matters not. He has given up a lot for his positions and has seen much. I would report to no one else and put the lives of you all or myself in another's care unless they were capable.
The two smiled at Therom's words though the moment was short lived as he was immediately grounded by a hard slap by Tova. Chuckling at his misfortune, he addressed the two in front of him. Tova had mixed feelings about the new allies the Alliance made but he cared little about politics. All that mattered was that they could survive in combat and that he could count on them.
"I've read your files. Ahsoka Tano of the Jedi order and Rex of the now defunct 501st legion."
"Defunct?" Rex asked shocked.
"Yes. Defunct. Though most of your legions have retained their identities, yours and Cody's legions are special cases. Under Alliance motivation, your legion as well as Cody's will be the first Alliance-Republic unit among us. As such from this day on your legion's no longer exist. But instead will become one.
Ahsoka and Rex looked as if they had been slugged in the gut. Their legion were one of the few namesakes they had left of their home. Why was their legion being changed?
"Cody and his legion have been made aware though by your expressions I will assume you were not. Though we have no Alliance detachment apart of us yet. We have been deemed by title to be a upstanding force."
Ahsoka folded her arms in questioning as she took over. Rex, meanwhile, looked as if he been slugged twice as he was silent. Therom' who had finally risen off the ground placed a large palm on Rex's shoulders as the man shook his slowly.
"So what's our title then?" She wondered.
Tova turned back as he stared off into space towards High Faith. Ships were still amassing behind his super carrier, on schedule thankfully, as he watched with a careful eye of every ship passing by.
"We are known as the fleet of Unforgiving Consequence. Fitting since most recent events and our troops are the Alliance Joint Infantry 7th Sierra Division. Faith's sword and shield. You clones will act under your new designation the 512th. This legion is to be led by you two and Cody answering only to Therom' or me."
The two were silent as was Therom' as he was sure this was possibly a massive change for them. Rex, who had been silent for the longest, cracked a small smile as he tried his best uplift the news.
"Well there's no other wise guy I'd command with besides Cody and Commander Tano." Rex happily said.
The doors to the bridge slid open, as a man walked through as if summoned. His yellow shoulders glistened as he walked towards the group. Therom' gave him a slight nod as did Tova as he nodded back before punching Rex in the shoulder.
"Yea? Well this Wise Guy isn't going anywhere either. We're prepped for hyper- I mean slip-space sirs."
Nodding with approval and with a flick of his wrist Tova turned his back on the four as he faced the bridge. The activity amongst the crew heightened as they made the necessary preparations. He could see some of the ships amassed beside the super carrier as frigates and cruisers of both factions rallied behind the behemoth. Not turning around Tova gave his last order to his new 'field commanders' as they exited the bridge.
"Discuss what you wish and prepare those with us for deployment once we reach Relkor. We have much work to do."
Nods of approval were given by the four as they exited the bridge. Outside the ship, the all familiar black holes of slip-space were torn open in front of the massive fleet. Multiple portals began to emerge and pocket space as the fleet began its journey away from High Faith. The bridge was abuzz as the crew made the necessary calculations and precautions needed for the jump
"Coordinates plotted in."
"sub-space stable and awaiting handshake."
"Relkor fleet notified of departure."
"Republic fleet notified of Slip-Space entry."
"All hands prepare for Slip-Space entry. Repeat, all hands prepare for Slip-Space entry"
"Sir. Jump ready on your word."
Silent, Tova stared at High Faith one last time before turning on his heel. Marching away from the viewport he took his seat in his command chair as he breathed in deeply.
"Commence Slip-Space jump."
"aye sir."
The massive ships rumbled as they moved forward towards the openings in space and their smaller comrades following right behind them. Other ships of High Faith parted as they let the large fleet through, ever so watchful of anything occurring around the fleet. The portals swirled as all the ships entered their empty blackness. One by one they entered and followed each other into the portals until they were finally all through. With the passing of the last ship the space was empty as the portals remained for a short moment before quickly closing.
Rex and Ahsoka walked to the hangar as they looked for time to kill. From what they heard a lot of lounging was going on down there. Though no surprise since it was quite possibly the largest open area on the ship. Saying hello to anyone passing by and introducing themselves to any of the crew, they reached the elevator in no time. The doors slid open as two elites in blue armor, minors, stepped aside for them. There was also a man in fatigues and a jackal in fatigues suited for his species as well. squeezing on board, the ride was slightly quiet, though they did make conversation with the elites for most of the ride. Curious, they constantly asked Rex of his previous battles and even asked Ahsoka about her light saber. It wasn't until the man, a sergeant, berated the two for their interrogation of the newcomers and apologized for him.
"sorry bout' that. Fresh recruits can be…eager to say the least. Elites are no different."
"I know that feeling all too well. Believe me" Rex chuckled.
The elevator shuddered as they had reached the hangar. Doors sliding open, everyone but the sergeant and jackal exited. The Elites were quick to apologize for themselves before rounding about meeting with a large group of elites and humans as they waved them over. The two bowed before leaving them alone to themselves. Rex and Ahsoka scanned the hangar as they tried to find anything to waste time until they reached Relkor. All over the hangar various things were happening all around. From the usual maintenance and repairs to vehicles to the troops milling about there was no shortage of interaction in the large hangar. Rex leaned over as Ahsoka looked around searching for something as well.
"Any ideas?" Rex asked?
"Let's go see with that group is doing" She pointed.
Following her directions, he raised an eyebrow as he spotted a large gathering of men and women in a decent sized corner of the hangar. They all were gathered around some sort of ring as they roared and cheered though Rex couldn't see exactly what was happening. Even some clones were part of the motley crew of species as they watched with excitement in their eyes as well. All he could hear was the occasional slam of something before the crowd would immediately roar and cheer. Rex looked at Ahsoka as she seemed very interested and began walking over behind her not even sparing a glance back at him. Rex sighed as he watched her go before following behind to join her. Jogging to catch up, he caught her standing behind the large crowd trying her best to see what was happening though she wasn't exactly the tallest one there much to Rex's amusement. Coming beside her, he could easily see what was happening in the ring as the crowd roared again.
In the ring was an Elite, wearing red minor armor, and man in ODST armor across from him. Behind the man and groaning on the mat floor were two more shock troopers as well as a downed elite in blue minor armor and a jackal. The two currently still standing were going head to head in all out brawl. Rushing forward, the trooper ducked as the elite swung were his head would've been. Below his guard, he shot upward, trying to get an uppercut on the large being. Reacting to his movement quickly the elite leaned back slightly only getting grazed by the gloved fist before kicking out with his right hoofed foot. Clipping the right side of his chest, the trooper rode the momentum caused by the kick and spun around the still extending leg. Grabbing the large appendage, the trooper raised his elbow high before bringing it down the leg. A crack was heard and the crowd roared. The elite growled loudly, obviously in pain, before throwing a quick strike to the trooper's helmeted head. The clawed hand was fast as it raked the side of the trooper's head staggering him. Not finished he threw another strike into the trooper before kicking out with his extended hoof. Landing a direct hit this time, the trooper was thrown back into the rings ropes hurt and tired as he leaned on them.
Rex was amazed and couldn't help to be more excited himself as he watched the fight unfold against two species with obvious advantages and odds. Looking over to Ahsoka who also managed to finally see what was happening was watching with eyes wide as well. She glanced over to him and spared a parting smile before quickly grabbing his hand pushing all the way to the front for a better view. Much to Rex's dismay a lot of curses and apologies were said as Ahsoka forced her way to the front. Many clones there blanched when they saw Rex though he ignored them and waved them off much to their appreciation. Reaching the front finally, the two stopped short of the ring as the trooper and elite were still eyeing each other.
"Do you yield?" The elite asked through ragged breathes.
"Hah! In your dreams." The trooper coughed.
Growling the elite moved towards the trooper but stopped as his right leg gave out under him causing him to kneel. The trooper seeing this as an opportunity to attack moved forward but stumbled as his chest caused him pain as well. With both the two kneeling, all they could do was stare at one another and pant as neither had the strength to rise. Rex was slightly worried about their health and was about to step in though fate beat him to it.
The two continued to stare at each other as their breathing began to calm. The elite stared at the trooper as his mandibles parted into a smile of sorts. The trooper raised one hand before flipping off the elite.
"You…smug…bastard." He forced out.
With that the trooper collapsed, possibly unconscious, as the crowd was quiet. The elite satisfied tried to rise up again and through gritted teeth did as he turned to the crowd and nods of approval and claps were given to him, even by the clones, as he soaked in his well earned victory. Though he didn't savor it too much as he collapsed as well right next to the trooper ironically enough. Members of the crowd quickly entered and dragged all of them out of the ring to a nearby and quickly setup rest area to tend to them. Upon Rex and Ahoska's observation it seemed these few weren't the only fights as many others were being tended to in the corner. The soldiers laughed and retold of their battle as they were bandaged and given water.
"Well that was certainly…entertaining" Rex said blankly.
"Are you kidding me!? That was amazing!" Ahsoka said shocked.
"Well a sparring ring isn't too new Ahsoka. Clones use to do it quite often, no matter how much it was against regulation. Had to shut a few down myself actually." Rex laughed.
At this time a gold covered elite entered the ring. He eyed the still massed crowd before addressing them.
"Any more challengers?" He asked.
The crowd was silent as it seemed no one was in a particular mood to get their butts kicked. Some purposely averted his gaze while others tried their best to make themselves small. Some of the clones even wanted no part of that ring as they did the same.
The Elite was still eyeing the crowd before his gaze lowered to right in front of him and the ring. He hummed in thought before devious grin quickly formed on his mandibles. Still lost in their own conversation Rex and Ahsoka jumped when the elite called out too them.
"You two! Care for a challenge?" He asked.
All eyes quickly locked on to Rex and Ahsoka as if they had been put into the spotlight. Clone regarded them with wide eyes and quickly yelled for backup as more clones rushed over. The crowd which had been a small group had now grown into a large mob as more clones and other alliance personnel joined the massive huddle. Rex shook his head as turned to leave.
"No thanks. Me and Commander Tano were just observing. Ready sir?"
The elite still carried a smug grin as he watched the clone leave with his commander reluctantly following. His voice carried over the mob as he called out to Rex.
"And are the rest of your brothers as pathetic as you? Pitiful. No wonder you fled." He goaded.
Rex stopped in his tracks as a uproar was caused in the crowd curses and and rage was thrown at the Elite and in turn the other Alliance forces as they argued back and forth. The feeling in the area beginning to become a little too much as more and more words were thrown back and forth. Escalating into pushing and shoving it wouldn't be long before a all out brawl was too happen. Clenching his fist, Rex gritted his teeth before turning on a heel and quickly walking towards the ring. Stopping just short of it he grunted before climbing in. Him entering the ring seemed to calm the crowd as they all stopped their bickering and outburst. The golden elite looked him up and down before huffing in amusement. Turning back to the crowd a clawed hand pointed at Rex while he addressed them.
"Shall we give our visitors a challenge? Step forward if you wish to test him." The elite yelled.
The crowd was silent and still for barely a moment before two elites in minor armor and a shock trooper entered the ring with him. Rex thanked whoever could hear his thoughts as he patted his armor and donned his helmet. The three sized him up as he entered his fighting stance. He had faith in his abilities of course, having trained with other captains, arc troopers, and even commanders on some occasion. Though he doubted himself slightly as he eyed the three. He was about to devise a plan when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning quickly, he halted as it was not an enemy behind him. Eyebrow raised in confusion he had to step back to make sure he was seeing this clearly.
"Commander Tano and who are you?" Rex asked
Ahsoka stood behind him with a slight smile as she readied herself in the ring with him though it was the other clone that garnered his attention. He wore the standard phase 2 armor though it was devoid of any markings or indications of what legion he belonged too. He responded with a gravelly voice that sounded oddly familiar to him.
"Just wanted to take a crack at them myself." The clone said.
Nodding, Rex turned and stepped forward as if asking for a challenger. Keeping it to a one on one would be the best course of action as an all-out brawl would not go well for them. Even with a Jedi on his side he didn't want to be near a rampaging elite let alone two of them.
Responding to his call to action, and to his dismay, the first one to step forward was an elite. Cursing to himself he entered his fighting stance as the others stepped back and allowed them space. The crowd began to chant and cheer as this match was going to be one to remember. The golden elite chuckled as he stepped up to Rex. He spoke in a hushed tone before exiting the ring.
"Do not disappoint." He chuckled.
Ignoring him the elite and Rex stared each other down. The tension in the air had risen quickly as they held their positions from one another. The crowd continued to roar even as they stood still. Rex hoped the elite would make the first move though with his size difference it would be logical if the elite didn't. They continued to hold for what felt like hours as they waited for an opportunity. Their stances were beginning to become hard to hold as they held back the urge to lunge forward. Rex's hands shook slightly while the elite's legs slightly shook.
A hoof shifted slightly and Rex backstepped as the elite launched forward finally. He stepped to the side dodging a jab by the larger opponent before dodging another. He threw a quick hook into the elites side, and to his surprise did nothing but make him flinch. Though that was all He needed as he threw a uppercut into the elites head. His head turned to the ceiling as he stumbled backwards. Rex taking advantage of the upper hand, pressed forward to throw another punch to the Elites side when he was suddenly racked across the shoulder. Recovering quicker than he anticipated, the elite threw another punch yet again blocked by Rex's shoulder.
Rex gasped as his armed cried out in pain from taking two punches from the elite. Dodging under his third swing, three quick punches were laid into the elite's side again. He growled before raising both his arms and lugging them in a downward swing. Rex eyes widened as he had no time to react and was quickly knocked to the floor knocking the wind out of him. He groaned and quickly rolled to the side, a fist impacting where he had just been. Quickly rising to his feet, he swore as a hoofed leg kicked out to him. He leapt backwards not wanting to be hurt by such leg power before rushing forward again. The elite charged forward as well and was quickly shaken when Rex lowered his body and tackled the elite. Though not enough to bring him down the force pushed him back quite a bit and forcing air out of his lungs. Quickly raising up, two clasped together fists were thrown up rocking the bottom of the elite's head again. Stumbling and seeing stars, the elite was ill prepared for two more punches thrown to his head. Rex pressed his advantage again as he laid into the elite, Throwing another punch to the ribs he leaned back dodging a wide strike before taking the arm and bringing it over his shoulder. Putting as much strength into as he could, he leaned back before pulling down hard on the arm. A crack was heard and the elite growled in pain before grabbing Rex and throwing him to the other side of the ring. The elite tried to flex his arm though he growled in pain as it was too painful to do. He doubted it was broken but it was definitely useless for this fight.
Rex pulled himself to his feet as he entered his fighting stance again. The elite eyed him warily as if In thought before kneeling. The crowd roared even louder as Rex's confused posture said it all. The elite moved to exit the ring but stopped and gripped the arm Rex had disabled. With a firm grunt and pull a pop was heard as the elite could flex the arm without much pain. Turning to Rex, he nodded before exiting the ring and resting. He sighed as his body gave out from under him. His arms were on fire from taking punches from the elite and his back was massively sore and painful too the touch. His breathing was ragged as a couple of clones entered and got him out of the ring. Setting him on a nearby bench so he could still watch, he thanked them as the shock trooper and clone trooper stepped forward. Rex hoped the best for the clone as they entered their fighting stances.
With a wave of the the golden elite's hand the match begun. Not waiting anywhere near as long the two immediately rushed each other and pounded one another blow for blow. The shock trooper threw a punch to the clone's head connecting and staggering him for a second. Though he quickly recovered and answered by dodging the next swing and launching two of his own into the troopers ribs. Not stopping there, he dropped with a leg sweep to the troopers legs knocking him onto his back. Having the air forced out his lungs, the trooper quickly rolled to the side and dodged a punch meant for his head. Quickly getting to his feet, he ducked under another swing meant for his head before answering with two punches to the clones sides. Surprisingly not even fazed by the punches, the clone launched a downward punch right into the trooper's helmet rocking him. Not giving any more room, he twirled a roundhouse kick into the trooper's ribs lurching him to the side in pain. Quickly reversing his pivot he performed the same kick with the other leg lurching the trooper to the other side. The trooper stumbled in pain as he stared down the clone who wasn't even hurt it seemed. His breathing was also calm as he stepped forward and launched toward the trooper. The trooper readied himself for one last bid as he threw a swing with all his might directly in front of him. Though he was quickly shocked as the clone charging leapt into the air towards him with his arm cocked back. The trooper panicked as his arm was already in motion and was going to just graze the leg the clone had leapt off of. With no time to react the clone quickly came back down to the ground but not before hitting the trooper in the head a with a heavy hitting leaping punch instantly grounding him. He laid there for a moment before trying to push himself off the ground with a groan before giving up and falling unconscious. The clone satisfied silently exited the ring all the while his brothers cheered for him. Rex was albeit a little shocked as the clone did not savor his victory. Though he frowned in thought as tried to recall the clone's voice. He knew he had heard it from somewhere he just couldn't recall. Hopefully he runs into him again.
Not thinking too much about it he painfully rose to his feet as Ahsoka and the last elite stepped forward. The crowd and the two were silent as they sized each other up. With a grunt the elite reached behind him unclipping a small device. With a roar, it came to life as blades extended from the hilt all the way too the mat floor. Rex was more concerned than ever as the elite brandished the energy sword towards Ahsoka. He limped to the ring as quickly as he could, stopping just short as he spotted the golden elite. Rex growled as he moved towards the elite.
"Hey! You have to stop him! He's got a damn energy sword!" Rex argued.
"And your commander as a blade of her own. Let them spar" the elite said.
"But what if he kills her!?" Rex yelled.
The elite eyed Rex with narrowed eyes before shaking his head with a disgusted growl.
"You truly know nothing do you." He spat.
Rex was beginning to argue more when he heard the all too familiar sound of a light saber activating. Ahsoka stood in the ring with both her light sabers at the ready and entered her stance. The crowd was silent in the observing of this duel. Rex sighed before turning his attention to the fight as well. He couldn't help but worry for Ahsoka as the two duelists slowly circled one another. They circled each other for quite some time until the minor elite's form slipped and extending him too far. With unexpected quickness, Ahsoka ran forward blades extended behind her towards the elite. The elite swung his blade horizontally at Ahsoka predicting her position from her speed. Halting, she caught the energy sword as it shimmered and sparked against her sabers. This amazed the alliance and republic personnel as the two held the clash of blades for a moment. Ahsoka dropped under the clash, letting the momentum carry the elite's swing as her blades hummed towards his legs. Quickly the elite turned and flicked his wrist repositioning his sword between his legs and her blades. With a burst of strength, he thrust against Ahsoka's sabers and pushing her back. Skidding to a halt, she leapt upward, sabers poised for an overhead strike at her opponent. Not backing down the minor roared before blocking her overhead strike with some trouble. Not wanting a another test of strength Ahsoka leapt off of the elite the moment they clashed soaring over him. Even while in midair over him she swung her two sabers at him though he deftly blocked them as he held his position.
Landing across from him the two enter their stances and slowly circled another again before both charged another. Throwing strike after strike the two quickly matched each other's movements and blows as they fight dragged on. Ahsoka lowered a swift strike before sweeping the leg of the elite. Unprepared he stumbled but quickly regained his footing as he blocked another strike meant for his legs. Pushing off Ahsoka blades once more, she rushed forward with sabers humming behind her as she and the elite clashed again. The clash held for a moment as sparks flew from their weapons. They both gritted their teeth and were growling like animals as one tried to overpower the other. Ahsoka was beginning to run out of ides when her eyes widened. The elite, using his free hand, quickly grabbed Ahsoka by the wrist and gripped her wrist hard. She cried out from the grip and released her hold on her shoto saber but narrowed her eyes in defiance as she held the clash with the elite. Growling, he quickly turned lurched Ahsoka to the side, launching her towards the ring's ropes. Quickly maneuvering her form in mid-air, she turned over her body as her feet made contact with the rings's ropes as they stretched back a foot or two due to the momentum of the elite's throw. He widened his eyes in realization and prepared himself with blade in hand. Without much a challenge, the ropes snapped back into place all the while launching Ahsoka back towards the elite. He readied himself as she flew toward him with saber in hand. She sped towards him like a bullet and light saber poised to strike. Sidestepping out of her path, he barely deflected her strike as she shot past. Rolling to a stop Ahsoka quickly pivoted and halted before the elite. He had little to no time to react to her movement but tried nonetheless and halted his sword mid swing.
Ahoska smirked as she held her lightsaber inches from the Elite's throat. His eyes were narrowed as he stared down at his opponent. The two held the position for a moment before Ahsoka stopped smirking and realized a heat near her ribs. Glancing down, she saw the glowing of the energy sword as it halted right beside her ribs. Had the elite continued his swing he would've cleaved her in two. Glancing back up, the Elite chuckled before deactivating his energy sword. Doing the same, Ahsoka turned off her light saber as the two addressed each other.
"It seems your Republic is as valiant as they come." The elite said bemused.
"You're not too bad yourself big guy." Ahsoka complimented.
Reaching out with open hand she used the force to return her shoto to her clipping it on her belt.
"Fascinating. Your force powers truly are something to witness."
Ahsoka laughed as she moved to exit the ring.
" Ah think nothing of it. Just average things of the Jedi." She joked.
Stepping down to the smiling form of Rex, he nodded towards her as the crowd began disperse and return to their duties. The form of the golden elite remained, as he stood alone with crossed arms. Rex frowned as he and Ahsoka eyed the elite. He gave them a nod before going his own way. Rex watched him leave with narrow eyes before turning to Ahsoka.
"Some show huh sir?" Rex joked.
"You sure had me going. Didn't know you had moves like that." She laughed.
"Please. In my line of work, experience outranks-"
"Everything." She said cutting him off.
He chuckled as he began to walk towards a group of clones ready to congratulate him and Ahsoka.
"Maybe I'm getting too predictable." he laughed as she laughed beside him.
Therom', Tova, and Cody stared at the holo-table as it projected the holographic image of the planet Relkor. The fleet defending it were projected as green triangles as they circled around the planet. The council was right in being a large fleet as nearly 40 green triangles circled around the planet. Tova huffed with his arms folded as he examined the planet.
"Even with our arrival many of the republic ships are ill-prepared to guard a planet. They're too outclasses and not combat ready in the slightest since your departure commander."
"Well yes sir, but be that as it may, I still request that the Republic fleet be given some assistance in the defense of the planet."
Tova huffed as he stared at the hologram of the planet. His clawed hand reached out before adding 15 more triangles to the guarding of the planet. Therom' and Tova both looked at Cody as if presenting the changes.
"Will this suffice? Fifteen of your venators with five supporting acclamators. This is the majority of your ships so I hope you know what you are doing. This leaves six venators and 3 acclamators available for refit and repair. Hardly a match for Alliance ships but will be fixed in due time no doubt."
Cody nodded at them both as eyed the key locations of the planet. All in all the planet resembled Kashyyyk to Cody. Large forests and tropical regions pocketed the planet all over between large bodies and water and vast wastelands. He saw that most of the population had indeed gathered and populated most of the upper areas of the planet leaving most of the southern hemisphere for the republic to inhabit untapped. Sadly, the tropical regions began to become scarce and open up more for the deserts and few oceans. It didn't leave much for them to settle and fortify and expand. He was almost done with his observation when he noticed a large hurricane position over a single spot. It was almost as large as a continent as it swirled and rampaged in a singular spot.
"Wait what's that?" he pointed.
Therom leaned in and huffed before waving his hand in an uncaring manner.
"A hurricane. they happen quite often on this planet and in that region. Strangely enough this one has formed for quite sometime. Any ships sent in to investigate return due to its strong winds."
"Weird. Well if anything we can set down here in quadrant 343-B. Its large landmass with adequate sized forest regions and bodies of water are still within collectable range."
Therom and Tova both stared at the quadrant in interest as they eyed the natural resources within range. Therom hummed in thought while Tova seemed satisfied enough with the location. Turning on his heel and clasped hands behind his back he took to assisting the rest of the bridge crew leaving Cody and Therom' to themselves. Cody continued to stare at the hurricane interest before turning to Therom'
"So. What's the plan?"
Therom huffed as he eyed the quadrant Cody had selected. In theory it was the perfect location to lay down our forces though his interest in the unnatural hurricane piqued his as well. He had heard stories of the hurricane though with no one being able to break through it was believed to simply be a natural phenomenon to the planet. As much as he'd love to investigate it alongside Cody…there were more important matters at hand.
Shaking his head he eyed the selected quadrant.
"There is a major Brigham who the planetary forces marshal under. He has agreed to divert resources and manpower to assist in the formation of base structures and defenses as well as accommodate you all to the local area. Speaking of accommodate have you sent over the various information Commander?
Cody nodded as he used a nearby holo-pad. The planet was quickly replaced with various weapons, vehicles, and even armor. It displayed various armaments of the republic forces from their blasters and armor to their tanks and starfighters. Every piece of equipment currently used by the troopers was displayed on the holo-table.
"Detailed designs have been sent to High Faith Research and Development. Even left behind a venator cruiser for them. Refit designs should be in the works though when that happens, which will take time, producing them is another story."
"Indeed. An issue for another time." Therom' dismissed.
Blue lights flashed across the ceiling of the bridge as klaxons rang out across the ship. The bridge personnel moved a bit faster than usual as they all took their stations. Data was read out aloud and readings were given to Tova as he took in the information they were given. Cody looked left and right at the organized panic as Therom' calmly stared out the viewport. The bridge doors slid open as Rex and Ahsoka rushed in alarmed by the klaxons as well.
"Cody what's going on?" Ahsoka asked.
"I'm not sure commander we-"
A voice rang over the intercoms as the ship felt as if it was slowly beginning to decrease in speed. The Ship began to lurch as the hull held together while groaning among the slip-space lane.
"All hands prepare for slip-space exit. I repeat, all hands prepare for slip-space exit."
Shortly after this announcement the ship lurched again as they exited out of slip-space around Relkor. Portals pocketed the area around Relkor just as they did around High Faith. Portal after portal appeared around the planet as the current fleet parted allowing the new residents to exit undeterred. First to exit was the massive super carrier "Unrelenting Reach" as the rest of the fleet began to follow suite. The ships while new to the area quickly began to fall in with the planetary fleet as best they could while allowing the Republic ships to begin their descent into the atmosphere.
The bridge doors slid open again as Bly and Doom entered the bridge area with the others. Walking up to the viewport they both watched as the fleet descended on the planet. Their viewing was interrupted abruptly, as a holo screen projected itself in front of Tova and the group. Before them on the screen stood a brute donning golden armor and a bronze helm resembling that of a Valkyrie. Dreads flowed behind the head of the brute colored brown to match the color of the helm. Though the most discerning feature was their face, as a black skull like war paint covered their face stretching from chin to temple.
Bowing out of respect towards Tova the deep voice of the brute boomed as he greeted them.
"Glad you arrived unscathed supreme commander. We've been awaiting your arrival. Ah, and I extend my greetings to you as well forces of the Republic. I am Arterus chieftan of the brutes of this quadrant and protector of Relkor below."
The greetings were quickly passed around before Tova stepped forward.
"Arterus. Status." He ordered.
"Major Brigham has already been alerted to your arrival and has begun to move units and resources to quadrant 343-B. he assumed that was the most likely place for you all to settle down. I'm hoping he was correct in this assumption. Beyond this sir, the fleet stands strong with your arrival as well as the Republic's. I'm sure the troops down below could use the new friendly faces. Major Brigham and his established outpost will provide you with supplies until a route can be established for you all."
Tova hummed in acknowledgment as that seemed to be all he needed to know for now.
"Affirmative Arterus. Prep for my arrival we have much to discuss. Therom' take the others down below and get them settled." He ordered.
With a nod of affirmative the group exited the bridge quickly as to round up the others for their landing though they caught by Arterus as he spoke to them one last time before cutting the line. His voice barely reaching them as the bridge doors shut behind them.
"Oh, and welcome home."
Coruscant
Underworld
Deep below the structured and pampered lives of the citizens of Coruscant that resided in the upper levels. There were the poor, less fortunate, and less inclined to follow the law that resided in the lower levels. The lower levels of Coruscant also laid with a mixture of ancient and forgotten ruins from the planet's prehistory along with modern-looking, crime-ridden venues and clubs were the scum of the republic gathered among the Republic-now turned- Empire. It was the ultimate gathering place for scum and vile criminals and left largely uncheck by the government up above. It was the perfect place for those not wanting to be found.
In a dark area on level 13 resided a long forgotten factory. The factory had once been a large supplier of narcotics to those of the underworld and was run by a local gang. That is until a few weeks ago the gang disappeared without a trace. Anyone that went to the factory or any area near it were never seen again for apart. And those that did return, returned with tall tales and stories of voices ghostly figures with blades if light and weapons of fire. These stories were quickly ridden off as too many 'deathsticks' and ignored. Though everyone knew for certain was too stay away from the factory.
It was also hear that two figures in all black armor conversed with one another. It was hard to see them due to the lack of light but it was easily discernible, if one had prior knowledge, that the two conversing were a Sangheili and human. They spoke in hushed voices too one another in the darkness as they cleaned their weapons.
The human was the first to speak as her voice broke the silence they had sat in.
"any word from the others? Did they make it back."
The elite grunted as he continued to clean his plasma repeater. The blue light of the weapon providing some illumination in the factory but not much.
"Their last transmission was that they were in Alliance space and had met with friendly forces at the rendezvous point. It is safe to assume they as well as the information have returned safely."
She sighed as she began to clean her magnum.
"Well at least they made it out. Shame about the others. They didn't deserve to die to that…that….thing." she rasped.
The elite glanced over at her before returning to checking his plasma pistol's energy.
"That…Parasite… has obviously been hired by the Emperor to hunt us down. He must want the same as us. Information."
Standing up the woman huffed over the elite as she folded her arms.
"Yes I understand. As far as we know the Emperor as know idea where to hyperspace jump to enter Alliance space and he's sure as hell not just gonna jump ships until he finally lands the right spot. All I'm saying is why are you, Victor, and I still here?"
With another huff, the elite clipped both his weapons before standing over the woman.
"To delay. As long as we can." He said solemnly.
Her arms fell to her side as she took in what he was implying.
"Suicide mission huh?" she asked.
Reaching into her chestplate she pulled out a picture that contained a photo of a couple in front of a landmark on High Faith. Though she would admit she had no idea who the couple was posing in front of the landmark, she focused on the background. In that was a boy and girl running from a woman, who could be assumed to be their mother, all with smiles on their faces. With a sigh she placed the picture back in her breastplate.
"I am sorry I did not mean to-" the elite forced out.
"It's fine we knew the risk…speaking of Vic earlier where the hell is he? He hasn't…checked…in." She said with fearful realization.
The two immediately readied their weapons and found cover as they tried to contact their missing member.
"Victor! Victor come in!" She yelled in a hushed tone.
The comm line was silent besides static as the two waited and listened in the abandoned factory. The two were still silent as they listened for any sign of intrusion. The glass ceiling of the factory was darkened for a moment as something darted past. It's shadow leaving a quick mark on the floor before vanishing as well. The two readied their weapons as they prepared for the worst.
"It is him isn't it?" she asked.
Her answer was the window above them shattering as something landed on the floor hard. Weapons trained on the mass, the two slowly approached. A cough reached their ears as the figure, wounded and dying, tried to crawl towards them. The figure was cast in the light by the shattered ceiling and was shown to be wearing the same as armor as the others though bleeding from many wounds.
"Oh my god Vic!" she yelled.
She was about rush forward but was quickly yanked back into the darkness and cover by the elite. He shook his head at her as they watched Victor bleed out in front of them. He slowly rose to his knees as blood seeped from his armor. He slowly looked around taking his eyes surroundings before realizing where he was.
"Oh no. no. no. no. guys if you can hear me run he's here! Get out of here now! Before its too-"
Victor wasn't able to utter another word before a loud crack was heard and he slumped over lifeless. A roaring sound was heard as a figure slowly descended into the factory by Jetpack. Landing beside Victor he looked at his lifeless body before bursting out in laughter.
"Man! I love it when they talk too much! Crying for help? What a joke. Makes it all more satisfying to end their lives." He laughed.
The figure looked around the factory before sighing.
"Alright meatbags, Listen up! Court is now in session and I am your judge, jury and executioner, but mainly the last one. Come out now and I may kill you slightly less slower than I intend. I wont be asking again." He said drawing his blaster pistol.
He began to slowly walk forward as he readied a wrist-mounted flamethrower.
"hehe I hope you come out soon. I'm not good at cooking but I do prefer my meat well-done!"
His flamethrower roared to life as he set ablaze a section of the factory. The flame flickered as it illuminated the section of the factory the two were hiding. Activating their active camouflage, the two shrinked back into the darkness and watched as their hunter began to set more of the factory ablaze. They watched from the upper rafters as he began to burn more and more.
"Prep your jump jets. We are leaving." We have 15 minutes of active camouflage and resupply another 10 levels down. It should by us enough time." The elite said over comms.
" e've been running from this thing for days. What difference will it make." She said defeated.
The elite grunted as he watched the figure lob a grenade towards an unharmed corner of the building. The resulting explosion blew the whole corner to rubble as he continued to search around the factory.
"Him wasting his time here and not doing anything else detrimental back home." The elite said solemnly
"alright let's leave the dumb bastard." She said finally.
They began to exit through the shattered ceiling he entered through though stopped as he began to break out in laughter once again. He stood still among the fires and rubble laughing hysterically into the air.
"ah. Its funny. Hysterical actually. That you bastards don't think I can hear you!"
Rounding on the glass ceiling quickly he leveled both his blaster pistols before unloading into the open space. The woman was shocked by this and was slow to move as she was peppered by the blaster fire. Her armor and shielding were hardly noticeable in negating the fire as here cracked and fell to the shots. Her active camo since failing, her body fell to the floor down below right in front of the figure and next to Vic. The elite was shocked by her falling but was quickly enraged as he roared at the figure.
"VILE SCOURGE! I'LL HAVE YOUR HEAD!" he screamed in anger and rage.
Responding to his voice the figure was quick to fire on his position as well though the elite was quicker on the draw. The Elite was quick to exit as he jumped out of the skylight of the factory and dodged the incoming blaster fire. The red bolts shot out of the skylight for eternity it seemed until they finally stopped. Choosing this as the best moment to leave he growled to himself in pity as he began to flee still under active camouflage. He ran as fast and far as he could all the while still hearing the maniacal laughter of his hunter still in the factory. He laughed to the sky as he stood atop the bodies of the elite's comrades.
"That's right you worm! Run! And make sure you get it right next time! It's Durge."
Well then…..that was…a chapter huh? Anyways next time we join our Alliance friends they will be settling into their new home and beginning their best laid plans for the war the Emperor so graciously challenged them to but he's not just sitting around either. And how does durge fit into all of this. Find out next time my friends. And don't worry revisions of the prologue and previous chapters are still being worked on. But I think that's it for now. Glad you enjoed the chapter and see you all soon
