1 Prologue

Althrus pushed open the large oak doors. He continued to walk over to the counter when, "Why hello Althrus, what can I do for yer?" called the big man from behind the counter. "Nothing much Winthrop old friend, I just need these items." Althrus said as he handed a piece of parchment over the counter. Winthrop looked through the list and then inquired, "Do yer want these in any particular way like um, any rare items yer need?" "There are no rare items in request my friend, though could you give me a rough idea of the cost?" "Well let me add it all up. It's thirty-five gold pieces for the Long Sword, the Large Shield will come to fifteen gp, the Helmet is only one gp, um the Composite Long Bow will be one hundred and fifty gold pieces, the Splint Armour is 200 gp and the last lot of arrows will be seven gp. So basically it all comes to……..Althrus?" Althrus had been busying himself with price of shadow armour. He snapped back to what Winthrop was saying. "So then it all comes to five hundred and fifty-nine gold pieces in total. Have yer got that many gold pieces?" "Not presently, I only have three hundred, but if I give you these spell scrolls……"Althrus said. "What spells are they, Althrus?" asked Winthrop with a slightly greedy look on his face. "There's Burning Hands, Ghost Armour, Identify, Cure Light Wounds and Remove Curse." Althrus replied. "How about fifty gp for each one, so then that's two hundred and fifty gp off if yer give me the spell scrolls and then just pay one hundred and fifty-nine gp but I'll let yer off the nine gp." explained Winthrop importantly. "Well," said Althrus, "You seem to have it all worked out, here's the spell scrolls and the fifty nine gp. I'll just go and collect the other equipment, then shall I?" "Be my guest Althrus. By the way, where are you going exactly to be needing all that?" asked Winthrop. "My foster father, Gorion and I are travelling to the Yarrand Inn. We received a message from our friends and they need our help," explained Althrus as he packed the items he could into his pack. "Sounds like quite an adventure in the making. Good luck with yer travels then." "Thank-you, Winthrop," said Althrus and he put his bow around him. The wooden part across his back, and the string part infront of him. His sheathed his sword refilled his quiver and strode out of Winthrop's inn.
